PureDWTS Guest Poem: “A Dance Party Invitation”

As always, Lois sums up the week so well with her fun poems…

A DANCE PARTY INVITATION

We were invited to a party, we polished our dancing shoes
8 PM sharp, DANCING WITH THE STARS, spread the news

Stopping at the ticket booth, Len’s smile beaming so bright
The acts were in place, it was a rocking, rolling, rousing night

The party a carnival atmosphere, Maks hitting the golden ball
Redfoo brought the house down, electricity in the dancing hall

The Dance Party scene set, the night blazing with dancing feet
Celebration time, come on, the ballroom witnessing a tasty treat

LET THE DANCE PARTY BEGIN!

ACT ONE
CHARLIE WHITE AND SHARNA BURGESS
CHA CHA CHA – GONNA MAKE YOU SWEAT

Electrifying energy, flawless, full of flair
Featuring glow-in-the-dark, funky beats

ACT TWO
DANICA MCKELLAR AND VALENTIN CHMERKOVSKIY
CHA CHA CHA – I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY

Full of heat, full of steam, purring perfection
Full of blossoming, blooming effervescent energy

ACT THREE
JAMES MASLOW AND PETA MURGATROYD
QUICKSTEP – YOU’RE THE ONE THAT I WANT

A leading man is born, a dance full of speed
Feet burning on the floor like “GREASE-D” lightning

ACT FOUR
DREW CAREY AND CHERYL BURKE
TANGO – SUPER FREAK

Red hot disco deliciousness, life of the party
Staccato sharpness, slivering across the floor

ACT FIVE
AMY PURDY AND DEREK HOUGH
JIVE – SHOUT

Kicky, flicky, flashy, super-charged feet
Marriage of high-stepping, energetic beats

ACT SIX
CANDACE CAMERON AND MARK BALLAS
CHA CHA CHA – I LOVE IT

Full of sexy, full of shimmy, a spiffy delight
A leggy extravaganza, a blingy, swingy sight

ACT SEVEN
MERYL DAVIS AND MAKSIM CHMERKOVSKIY
TANGO – FEEL SO CLOSE

A special spectacle, with spine chilling perfection
Full of pulsating precision and razor-sharp beats

ACT EIGHT
NENE LEAKES AND TONY DOVOLONI
SALSA – HOT IN HERE

Full of hippy, shimmy, shaking, steamy beats
Swaying, playing with a husband, sweet treat

ACT NINE
MACY’S STARS OF DANCE
ANOTHER CHOREOGRAPHIC GENIUS BY DEREK HOUGH

A fabulous, stupendous display, high-spirited attack
Hot, intense, crazy body movement and positions

The Dance Party shook the ballroom rafters, applause filled the air
A super-duper, super-charged, super-fun Dance Party love affair!

Written By Lois A Troutman, April 22, 2014

Carrie Ann Inaba Writes About Dancing With The Stars Season 18 Week 6

Carrie Ann Inaba’s new blog has been posted at Parade. She talks about Redfoo and the fun Macy’s Stars Of Dance! She also breaks down the dances and talks about her kitty Taz who is in his last year’s of life (I love this cat and hope he’s going to be ok). Below are her thoughts on Charlie, Sharna, Amy, and Derek. Be sure to see the link for more.

Charlie and Sharna Burgess took me back to my Fly Girl days. I was impressed with his ability to get funky. I wasn’t sure if he had it in him, but he does and he brings a special Charlie White style to everything he does. He does everything with ease. I know I’ve said it before, but he’s like a Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire. He’s got such a stylistic stamp when he dances, you know it’s him immediately. It’s fun and fresh and clean. I really enjoyed his high-octane presence, but I do think that he and Sharna will be thinking hard about their next performance. I think we need to have impact from him. We need a surprise from them. Something unexpected needs to happen in their journey towards the mirror ball trophy. He’s definitely a contender and so is Meryl, and the competition between the two of them is going to get intense.

And there is another contender…that would be Amy Purdy.

Amy and Derek’s wedding-themed performance to “Shout” blew the roof off the ballroom! She faltered in the middle of the dance and lost her balance a few times–so I couldn’t give a 10, however, WOW! She gave us kicks and flicks like I’ve never seen before. The energy was moving the right way, down and out as opposed to just outward and, I don’t want to get too technical here, but after watching this performance I realize how incredibly detailed she and Derek have to be about the catalyst of every movement due to her unique circumstance. She is understanding the movements in a way most people would never have to and it’s created (when it’s possible) a highly-detailed understanding of the technique. This is what is helping her to perform these almost miraculous performances. I’ve read a lot of feedback about Amy–a lot of people feel she is getting special treatment and a lot of people feel she’s nothing short of a hero. I think that people think she’s getting special treatment because at least one of the judges comments about how incredibly special she is, but people have to understand to watch her dance is to see this. She is special, we can’t ignore it. As dancers ourselves, this is something to be in awe of. What she does baffles the brain. If we see mistakes, we have to take off for them, but it will never take away from the incredible ability she has to put a whole ballroom in awe.

PureDWTS Season 18, Week 6 – Power Rankings

So as predicted, the show took a few liberties with “party anthems” last night – I can’t speak for you guys, but I’ve never been drunk off my heiny at a frat party and gone “OMG!!! This is my JAAAAAMMMM!” while toasting my Keystone in the air to “You’re the One That I Want” from Grease.  But hey, that’s just me 😛 I’m also not quite sure that “Feels So Close” is even popular enough to receive “anthem” status, but maybe at 29 I’m just getting too old to know what’s popular…

Anywho…so Redfoo (aka Berry Gordy’s baby boy) did about as well as a guest judge as we expected him to – he was there more for entertainment value, comic relief, and self-promotion more than any sort of constructive input on the dances, but I was oddly ok with the whole thing because I don’t think it really affected the scores or critiques for better or worse.  I’d much rather hear Redfoo’s incoherent analogies about crustaceans running in the sand and NeNe being an entrepreneur than Donny Osmond’s self-centered prattling (or worse yet – the hellfire which I imagine the insidious Abby Lee Miller will be raining down on Derek & Mark two weeks from now 😯 ).  I can’t imagine he’s up to a whole lot since LMFAO decided to go on hiatus a year and a half ago – I have a feeling that the call he got from TPTB went something like this: “So Redfoo, we want you as a guest judge on DWTS!” “Sounds cool, but what’s in it for me?” “$100 bucks, a sammich, and your own personalized set of neon zebra print paddles!” “I’M SO THERE!!! Let me just go tease my hair real quick…”

Kinda sad to see Drew go, but I think he was ready – seemed like he was getting really tired and burnt out, and hadn’t been able to recapture the magic of his switch week dance with Witney in these past two weeks with Cheryl.  Really & truly, I wish it had been NeNe – and I guess I’m hoping that the novelty of her is beginning to wear off and we might say goodbye to her next week.  She may be fun to watch, but at this point, I feel like she’s not really even picking up legitimate choreography – it’s just a lot of booty shaking and “NeNe-ing” around the floor and getting absurdly high scores, while others doing appropriate choreography (namely Candace & Charlie) just can’t seem to catch any breaks with the judges.  What gives??? PureDWTS Season 18 Week 6 Media After Dance Night, Pictures Of Cast Arriving To Late Night Rehearsals

What a great night of dancing last night!! And the Macy’s Stars of Dance? OMG, so much power, muscle, and creativity. Derek Hough, Allison Holker, and the cast brought the goods, didn’t they?!! Just in case some of you need a repeat….

So for media starters today, don’t miss heading to ABC7 to see a fun recap of the night. They have a video too.

On The Red Carpet and the Daily Mail also have some fantastic photos and screencaps from the night.

Also, if you go to Just Jared Jr., you can see the cast arriving for rehearsals for the Team Dances after the show. I can’t wait to see what they come up with for next week!!

In other things, below is Meryl, Maks, Charlie and Sharna playing a “Do You know your partner” game with ET Online that came out before the show last night.

Also, Redfoo, Drew and Cheryl talked with Access Hollywood and On The Red Carpet after the show (sorry, but, this will be the only interviews since the cast went straight to rehearsals after the show last night)…. Read more..

PureDWTS Season 18, Week 7 – The Team Dances REVEALED!!!

It’s been a long ass day and I need sleep, so I’m just gonna get right to it…your teams for next week’s team dances are:

Team Meryl: Meryl & Maks, Danica & Val, Amy & Derek, and Candace & Mark

Team Charlie: Charlie & Sharna, James & Peta, NeNe & Tony

Yes, I know – please take a moment to lift your jaw off the floor as I did when I first heard the teams. I assure you, there’s a perfectly rational explanation…and her name is Saint Meryl the Peacemaker. 🙂 Apparently Meryl won the coin toss and got to pick first – and the funny thing is, the pros did not have any say in who got picked for each team. Deep Throat insinuated that the pros may not have even been in the same room when the picking of the teams was happening…which I actually think is kind of cool. Kept some of the politics out of the team-picking. Anywho! Danica & Val were Meryl’s first pick, as that was who she “thought Maks would really want”. Then Charlie picked James & Peta (bromance!), and Meryl picked Amy & Derek. Charlie picked NeNe & Tony, and Meryl was left with Candace & Mark. Read more..

DWTS Season 18, Week 6 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show (Spoilers)

Anyone got an idea for a good drinking game? I have several… 🙂

Loved the opening number.

NeNe – that weren’t no Salsa.  And she’s safe. Now I’m scared.

Candace in jeopardy. I’m wondering if she can buy another week or if they’re just giving her fans huge hints to get voting and Drew’s on the block. I sure hope Amy is safe….

James knows he has to step it up. Took a bit too long to get the dance started. Lack of body content.  Huge break in hold. Pretty dangerous. Annnddd….Len doesn’t disappoint. There is some hope.

Ten bucks says the time wasting move of the week is Meryl taking off her coat. If I’m right, everyone DRINKS. 🙂

That was okay….but still all the walking. Congrats to Meryl anyway.

Abby lee Miller on this show is a disgrace. That is all.

So Candace and Danica are in jeopardy. Worried for Amy…but I wonder if Danica and Candace – the rivals – will be the last two standing.

And Sharna shows Maks how to put a lot of content in a dance. That was great. I love it. 🙂

And Charlie gets hosed once again. Seriously – what is up here. There is no way that Charlie was four points lower than Meryl. Is he killing it in votes or what??

Well, that was actually one of the kickiest and flickiest jives I’ve seen. Who was saying Amy couldn’t jive?? LOL – she did a great job. It’s about physics, people. She’s moving faster so it’s easier.

In the end, Drew has left the ballroom. He was my second choice, but I’m not surprised.

PureDWTS Season 18, Week 6/7 – Let’s Talk Team Dance Picks

So if my spidey sense is correct, the teams for the team dances next week will probably get picked immediately after the show tonight, and they’ll head directly into rehearsal immediately after that – and there are a number of ways the teams could get divided up.  Since so many of you were chomping at the bit to start discussing it in detail after my “What Left to Dance?” post – here’s a place to do just that.  🙂

First, a bit of an overview: the team captains have always been the two celebs who have the highest cumulative point total for the season, and they usually flip a coin to see who gets first pick (or, whoever wins the toss gets a choice between picking first or picking their song/dance first).  Because the cumulative point total will ultimately determine the team captains, pay close attention to how Meryl, Charlie, & James are scored tonight – as of right now, Meryl is in the lead with 134 points; Charlie trails by 3 points at 131, and James is a mere 2 points behind him at 129.  Based on how they’ve been scoring Meryl, I don’t see her getting bumped out of that top spot, so I would venture a guess that she will definitely be one of the team captains; however, if Charlie has an off-night (and James kills his quickstep), we could potentially see James bumping Charlie out of the #2 spot in order to go up against Meryl as the other team captain.  Hell, I would even say there’s an outside chance (wayyyy outside chance) that Amy or Danica (particularly Danica) could swoop in and knock both Charlie & James down a notch and take that #2 spot, since they’re both tied at 128.  But my gut tells me that TPTB are too in love with the idea of Meryl vs. Charlie, and so they’ll probably go out of their way to ensure that Charlie stays at #2…which may mean low-balling James and giving Charlie a pretty cushy score. NeNe Leakes Talks Of The Hardest Part Of Learning To Dance And More On Dancing With The Stars (New Interview)

TV Guide has posted a new interview with NeNe Leakes. She tells them her “Party Anthem dance with Tony is going well so far. She also talks of why she gets emotional when the judges give her feedback and why. Read on for more….

I’ve noticed that you get pretty emotional when the judges are giving you feedback. Why is that?
Leakes: To me, I just feel like we work so darn hard every week, and I’m just so happy that we get through every week. It’s tough for us. I mean, I don’t have any dance experience. Some of these people have dance experience. I have none. I’m going to do what naturally I would do if I went to a club or something, but I don’t have any [professional] dance experience. So, I feel like it’s extra hard for me, where for some of the other people on the show, they have dance experience, so it comes a lot easier for them. I’m just always proud of myself when we get through. I’m just like, wow. I’m just happy to hear any little nice comment.

What’s been the hardest aspect of the competition for you?
Leakes: The hardest part for me is the technique. Some of these dances have real technique that the judges really look for, like your leg has to be in a certain place, or your arm needs to be a certain way. That’s probably the hardest part. Everything else I feel like can [fall] in place. But when you start thinking about the technical part of it they’re going to score you on — did you have your hand out at that time, your feet were not where they were supposed to be — those are the hardest parts. It’s really hard. I always say to them, “We’re supposed to entertain and have our feet and arms moving at the same time?” There’s just a lot going on. And you have to look like you’re having fun.

What are you working on for this week?
Leakes: This week is Party Anthem Week. We are doing a salsa to Nelly “Hot in Herre.” … So far it’s going really well. I’m really happy. I’m really pleased.

Dancing with the Stars Season 18, Week 5 – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, this week is fairly simple. Drew has a tough row to hoe this week, with the biggest margins since week 2. And really, I don’t have too many complaints with the scores overall, as they rather reflect my feelings after my initial viewing of the show.  What I AM waiting for, is the hammer to fall on Maks and Meryl for the “messing about” that Maks puts in about 75% of his dances. It’s even more glaringly obvious after Val and Meryl’s Argentine Tango. Anyone else who had a ringer of that caliber (particularly Derek) would have gotten hosed by now for all the crap. But really, Derek has often gotten hosed for crap in dances that other couples get away with in the very same show. I’m looking at you, Tony, Val AND Maks.  Usually, this occurs when Derek has a really good partner.  Now, the shoe is on the other foot and we get nothing but praise for the golden couple. Oddly, Charlie is just as big a ringer and he is getting the ringer treatment. Seriously, 3 points deducted for dropping that cane? If ever there was a time that the judges should have gotten together and said “hey, killer routine, very difficult – a dropped cane is only worth one point.” But no, they couldn’t manage that.  Are they REALLY trying to manipulate the audience into thinking that Meryl should win?? Because you know, some of the audience resemble sheep – they want to vote for the perceived winner. This is a dangerous game, though, because the audience also likes an underdog – especially if one is as good a dancer with harder choreo than the golden girl.  It will be interesting to see how things continue to progress on this front.
