More Dance Hints For Dancing With The Stars Season 24 Week 2

ET Online caught up with Rashad Jennings to ask him about week 2 of Dancing With The Stars. He gives some fun teasers on tonight’s dance with Emma Slater.

“I do have some of my friends coming into town for the show. We’ll prob go grab some sushi, my go-to thing, and then go to this vegan ice cream spot that I just die for, but I’m going to get some rest because I want to be on point for the dance,” Rashad shared. “The judges can give me a birthday gift by giving me a good score. And the people can give me a good gift by voting for me. That’ll be my gift!”

He also gave ET a few details on what to expect from he and his partner, Emma Slater. The two will be dancing the Viennese Waltz to “Suffer” by Charlie Puth, and Rashad says he’s planning to break out his poetry skills — a hobby he picked up during one of his off-seasons — to add a fun element that the show has never seen before.

“I do poetry. My hashtag is #ShadThePoet … so anything with a hashtag that has [my nickname] ‘Shad’ in front of it, it’s a way for people to get to know me personally, outside of being a football player,” he explained. “I take 10 seconds of a song, and in front of it, I put 10 seconds of poetry. So I lead people with my poetry into how I want the music to move them.”

“This week Emma was like, ‘You have a soothing voice when you do that. I want you to narrate the audience, the crowd, everyone [watching] TV into this song.’ So the room is going to be dark, I’m going to be speaking,” he teased. “It’s going to be unique, and hasn’t been done on the show yet. I think this may be one of my favorite dances to do, just because of the song.”

ET also talked with Sharna burgess and Bonner Bolton as well….

“He’s doing very well,” added Sharna, who confirmed that despite reports, she and Bonner are not dating. “Like he said, he connects to this one because of that Texas two-step dance that he’s used to.”

“He’s used to taking a woman’s hand and leading her around a dance floor, which is super rare these days, a man that has the confidence to do that, so it’s actually really fitting in his world,” she continued. “He’s connecting with the steps. We haven’t quite got to putting the romance and the character in there yet, but we’re going to get it.”

So what type of romantic is Bonner in real life? “I’ve tried to keep it genuine and unique, but I used to take girls out on the ranch and show them a good sunset out on the West Texas desert, show them the stars at night,” he gushed. “A little wine and dine.”

More at ET Online in what to expect for tonight with some of the other couples too.

ETA: Maks and Heather chatted with Access Hollywood Live about their dance last week….and their second dance too. This interview must have been recorded last week before Maks’ interview. You can watch this interview HERE.

DWTS Season 24, Week One – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, here I am again. Can’t say I’m overly excited about the show this season – silly fangirls, judges acting stupid, the producers using Julianne as a Heather apologist…all very annoying.

But there were a few actual bright spots. I loved David and Rashad, I thought Nick was funny and I liked that he wasn’t afraid to call a ringer BS.  Love Simone, but I’m hoping that Sasha doesn’t play it too safe in the coming weeks. I’ve seen a lot of criticism of their Tango, but I have to say…I think it was the music. That music was crap. Just ONCE this season I would love to see an actual TANGO.  Think Alexa and Derek – that kicked ASS. Hell, just about any Tango he’s ever done. He generally goes more traditional in the tango steps and music (when he has a choice) and I think the white flowery dress and the light, not-very-tango-y music of Simone and Sasha just ruins it for me. You can see the difference if you watch many of Derek’s – dark and intense. …Read more

PureDWTS Season 24 Court Rants: I Don’t Care How “Rabid” Your Fanbase Is, You Won’t Win Without the General Audience Vote!

For the regulars, you probably have witnessed what prompted this rant 😛 For the non-regulars, bear with me: it seems like every season, there is at least one fanbase that just bugs the ever-loving sh*t out of me – and it’s usually because said fanbase decides to obnoxiously remind the entire online DWTS fandom how awesome their favorite is, and how they’re going to win, and how they’re sooooo much better than other contestants, and how much harder they’re gonna vote than all the other fans, how rabid & supportive the fanbase is, etc.  Basically – if they can think of something to boast about, they will.  Loudly, frequently, and obnoxiously…and the rest of the fans just have to grit their teeth and bear it until the season ends or that particular contestant gets eliminated.

But here’s the funny part: for all the boasting these fanbases do, very seldom do their contestants actually win DWTS.  Why? To quote one of my Twitter followers, “If you have to tell us how big it is…it’s probably not that big.” 😉 But seriously, though – there’s a bit more to it than that.  You have to take viewing demographics into account, and whether or not that fanbase aligns well with the main viewing demographic; you also have to consider if there’s another contestant on a particular season who perhaps aligns better with the main viewing demographic.  The bottom line is this:

You cannot win DWTS if you don’t have the main viewing demographic of the show on your side.

And right now, I can hear the defiant protests of hoards of Harmonizers 😛 Go ahead – you guys can tell us all till you’re blue in the face how “rabid” you are, how “organized” you are, how “passionate & committed” you are.  It comes across as a tad insecure, but go ahead.  But I’m gonna warn you right now, unless Normani can get demographics on her side (or the show tries to pull off a pimping of never-before-seen proportions), I can almost guarantee she will not win. Let me explain why, using historical data from the show…

Normani Kordei Blogs DWTS Week 1 for Hollywood Life

Normani writes about week 1, her nerves and how they are in Okinawa, Japan this week for tour. I do like how she owns her dance experience and all the expectations and responsibility that comes with it. I do wish she would realize that she only did half a quickstep and perhaps tell her partner to get it together – but we can’t have everything. Visit Hollywood Life to read the rest of her blog.

Going into this first week I was definitely, and obviously, very nervous. There is a lot of expectation for me as a former dancer, and someone with dance experience, but with more expectation comes more responsibility. That really got me through this week. I always try to take everything Val [Chmerkovskiy] says into consideration. He is always giving me the best advice and critiques, and I try to listen to him a lot and take what he says and show it in our routine. He and I are out on the floor together, and I know that we are in this competition as a team, so listening to him this week has been so important for me.

The quick step was our first dance but also one of the hardest dances there is, so I am blessed that I got through it with Val’s guidance. It took me a bit to recognize that he is with me every step of the way; when we go out on floor we are out there together. So we took on the quick step together and I think we crushed it. I blacked out in the best way possible once I was out on the floor. I didn’t want the audience, or the cameras, or the judges to distract me from what I knew we could do. I just focused in on the glitter, and the lights, and the music and gave it my all.

PureDWTS Season 24, Week 1 – Power Rankings

And so begins another season 🙂 Admittedly, I found it hard to psych myself up for this season – I wasn’t really looking forward to it, after the 3-ring manipulation circus of last season, and didn’t really feel super-invested in any of the couples until last night.  While the talent this season seems almost unfairly stacked in favor of the female celebs, unfortunately for them, I think the guys may have actually ended up more enjoyable and memorable – perhaps the female pros see the writing on the wall, and know they’ve gotta compensate for a lack of experience by having their partners be really, really entertaining?

Generally, aside from maybe 3-4 dances last night, this felt like a pretty tame premiere – the first hour was kind of a bear to get through, as the energy really slipped before picking up around the 9 PM hour. Other observations? The opening number was cool and not something we had really seen yet, but the preponderance of Maks & Val was eyeroll-inducing – they’re really trying to drive the point home that these two are the “stars” this season, huh? I feel like we only saw quick snippets of the female pros, with those two idiots mugging shamelessly in between. The sexism of this show is blood-boiling, at times. Glad to see that the judges were kinda stingy with the scores for the first night, as this tends to stem a lot of potential b*tching from couples down the line who are given cushy scores for weeks before the judges get real and drop the hammer. Getting really tired of them reminding us in one breath that Heather danced backup for Beyonce, while in another launching into this big apology tour about how “different” ballroom is from what Heather does. The cognitive dissonance…it hurts.

Just as a refresher for the regulars and a quick explanation for the newbs, the power rankings are a ranking of who I think is the least likely to get eliminated next week (#1) to who is the most likely (#12). It takes into account how well they danced, how memorable they were, how big I think their voting fanbase is going to be, how big their pro’s fanbase is, how likeable they are, etc. Is it NOT a ranking of how well they danced or how high they scored, so if you’re here to piously tell me that “so-and-so should be higher than so-and-so because they got a better score”, prepare to be called out. Shall we begin? 🙂 Read more..
