DWTS 15 All-Stars: The Great “Previous Dance Experience” Debate – Pam Anderson Edition

You know the drill by now, kids – go here if you want to see the previous editions of this series.  I’ve got 2 more editions to get through after this, and very little time to do it in before the premiere 😛

For Pam’s best dance, I picked her famous “9 to 5” quickstep:

And for her worst dance, I picked her waltz:

I’ll be honest: I don’t think Pam is a GREAT dancer.  I’d even go so far as to say that, besides Kelly & Bristol, she is probably one of the weaker dancers this season.  But there is something about her that is just so FUN to watch – she may have been totally missing steps and getting off-time in that quickstep, but to see her bobbing around and smiling so big and having a great time doing it, I was mesmerized.  Ditto for any of her other dances – she got so into the character of her cha-cha, foxtrot, rumba, paso doble, and Argentine tango that it didn’t seem to matter as much to me if she was wobbling awkwardly or missing steps.  She was just fun to watch.  That’s not to say that I was completely able to overlook her snafus, though – on the whole, I really liked Pam, but she always struck me as a bit of a stiff mover, even though she was really quite flexible.  And when she wasn’t able to completely connect to the character of her dance (such as in her waltz), she seemed to look a bit aloof and lost.  Her waltz, while not technically bad, just felt bland and chilly to me.  I get the feeling that she’s someone whose performance hinges greatly upon playing a character – and if she can’t really play one, she’s just kinda…there.

Now unlike some of her cohorts this season, Pam has actually done something in the past year to hone her dance skills that I think may come in handy.  As Vogue (and reader Carlos) reported last summer, Pam competed on the Argentine version of DWTS,  Bailando por un Sueño, with Damian – here they are doing what looks to be a paso doble:

Granted, they did withdraw in week 4, but I still say that any contestant this season that has somehow managed to do some dancing within the last year or so (even better if they did more ballroom) is probably going to have at list a little bit of a leg up on those who haven’t danced at all since their original season.

Court’s verdict: Pam’s not the strongest dancer, but I do think she’s fun to watch – and that could keep her around for at least a little while.  Bonus points if she can connect well to both the dance and her partner.

What do you guys think of Pam? Is she going to stick around awhile…or be out early, as she was in the Argentine verison of the show?

Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.

DWTS All Stars, The Premiere – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

Wow. Season 15 already! Can’t believe it. I wish they would draw dances out of a hat, and their dance order out of a hat as well, since I already see signs of some getting dances that favor them and others…not so much.

Everyone is dancing either Foxtrot or Cha Cha Cha. Sabrina’s challenge will be Foxtrot, so of course she gets Cha Cha. The reverse is true, possibly, for Drew and Foxtrot – meaning that he would also be a strong Cha Cha-er so he got Foxtrot. Good to see Kirstie get a Foxtrot, though, since all I remember about Kirstie is Cha Cha Cha Cha Cha.  And a lot of talking.

Keep your eyes on this post…in the coming weeks we’ll be adding phone numbers, songs and dance order, as we get them (if we get them). I’m going to go out on a limb and bet that they give Shawn the Foxtrot (they already have one petite blonde doing a cha cha), Joey a Cha Cha (cuz the other boy bander is doing a foxtrot), and the rest?? Foxtrot, I think, because we already have five Cha Chas, six if I’m right about Joey.

ETA: Thanks Court, for the screenshot showing twitter, where Apolo blurted out his song for Cha Cha – dang, lucky, lucky, lucky.  He’s going to be memorable with that song.

ETA2: Thanks, Vogue, for finding the video where Tristan says they’re dancing Cha Cha. 🙂  Hmmm…good choice for Pam too, I’m thinking.

ETA3: Told you Shawn was dancing Foxtrot. 😀

ETA4: Finally, confirmation of the last two dances!

ETA5: Looks like Helio & Chelsie have finished camera blocking & know their running order position…which is probably not such a good one.  Then again, it may not matter too much this season…who knows.  -Court-

ETA6: As soon as I walk away from the computer, Tony tweets that he & Melissa are going 6th.  C’mon, guys, I need to get ready for date night with the bf! -Court-

ETA7: Heidi’s back!! And Gilles got a decent number!!

ETA8: What the hell?? Kelly and Val get 11?? WHY? Maybe they don’t want them gone too soon?

ETA9: Running order may not matter for most, but 3rd isn’t a good spot for Sabrina, I wouldn’t think.

ETA10: Does Cheryl have it written into her contract that she must get the pimp spot every season or what?? I can understand Kirstie’s order…but Emmett??

ETA11: Here comes the music!!  And really, I would have given Apolo the number 1 slot with that song. Hmm.

ETA12: Hmmmm…now I wonder if it’s actually going to be Apolo & Karina at the top of the 2nd hour. -Court-

ETA13:  Huh. Pimp spot AND a fantastic song. Really, people, tell me what’s in her contract??

ETA14: Another song that makes you go “whuuut?”

ETA15: Pam and Tristan, Mark and Bristol! Finally we know their placement. ~Vogue

ETA16: Serious, TPTB, Adele as a foxtrot?? It ain’t the judges smoking crack this season. At least Melissa’s song is pretty neutral.  And Derek as the last holdout confirming his dance order? Why am I not surprised? Still feeling pangs of twitter aversion?? 🙂

ETA17: Apparently Derek overcame his Twitter aversion and finally confirmed that he & Shawn are, indeed, going 2nd…in other news, fire is hot and water is wet. 😉 -Court-

ETA18: Special thanks to reader Glauber for the heads up on Bristol & Sabrina’s songs 😎 Very nice catch! The music department must have a sense of humor, considering they gave Bristol a song called “Blow Me”.  *snicker*

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS “Who Wore it Better”? – The Pre-Season 15 All-Star Edition, Part II!

So at long-last, we have EVERYONE’s pictures, since Kirstie & Sabrina’s were released last week.  We can definitely see the chosen color pattern for this season was blue, purple, and various shades of black, white, and silver – and after going through all these pictures with a fine-toothed comb, I can see that the costume department has been extra busy hacking apart, dying, and generally futzing around with pretty much any costume they can get their hands on.  The few costumes that seemed to escape the carnage probably could have stood to be altered a bit…needless to say, I’m becoming progressively less impressed with the costumes as the post-Randall seasons wear on.  Randall, are you out there? If so, can you please come back and slap the clowns in the costume department across the face with a raw trout and tell them to quit acting a fool? 🙁

Anywho, if you’d like to repeat the magic of part I, you can check it out here.  And be kind, kids – this particular edition was an absolute betch to put together.  😛

Battle of the black, see-through lace asymmetrical dress with silver bra/season 3 Emmitt & Cheryl vs. season 15 Emmitt & Cheryl: Emmitt & Cheryl’s season 3 promo photo vs. Emmitt & Cheryl’s season 15 promo photo vs. Cheryl’s cha-cha with Chris in season 12

Courtney: This one had me stumped for the longest time – and as I found with a lot of the costumes in this half of the pre-season 15 edition, I just happened to stumble upon the ditto whilst looking for other stuff 😛 Praise the lord for happy accidents! Anywho, I think what throws me in Emmitt & Cheryl’s all-star promo photo is that he seems very laid back and happy-go-lucky – and she’s giving us this smoldering sexpot look.  Needless to say, there is a bit of a disconnect – which is why I like their season 3 promo photo better.  And I actually like her dress in her cha-cha with Chris better than I thought – maybe the pearls make it seem less…salacious.  😛 And the tousled hair with the tinsel was a fun touch.

Heidi: Heh – their promo has cognitive dissonance written all over it. 🙂  I also like the version in the dance with Chris and I can’t quite put my finger on why.  You’re probably right about the pearls – but they are also very odd, considering the underlying style of the dress.  Just all around weirdness. 🙂  I, too, liked Cheryl before her Kardashianification.  Clearly spending too much time with those girls, she is. 🙂

The verdict: Hangin’ out with the Kardashians is baaaad, mmmkay? Read more..

Pamela Anderson Makes Appearance And Dances On TV Show In Brazil

Doesn’t Pam look fantastic? This week she made an appearance on a Brazil TV Show called “Caldeirão do Huck”. According to PureDWTS reader Lucas, she did some dancing and mostly sung a version of “Girl From Ipanema”. You can view more pics of her at the Daily Mail. A teaser for what’s to come for the US version of Dancing With The Stars. Go Pam! It’s going to be fun to see her dance again and I hope she does really good.

Thanks Lucas for the correction and filling us in.

Pamela Anderson’s Mother Is So Excited For DWTS All Stars, Fan Homage To The Show

USA Today interviewed Pamela Anderson. As you know, she’s vowed off men for the Dancing With The Stars All Stars season. However, Tristan isn’t making that an easy vow to keep. And did you know Pam’s mother hoped she’d get Tristan as a partner? So cute! More below including Pam’s plans of taking Tristan to Rio. Be sure to read the link for more.

Ironically, it was Anderson’s mother Carol who was originally the fan of MacManus, the thick-accented professional dancer from Bray, County Wicklow. MacManus has danced with Nancy Grace and singer Gladys Knight in previous seasons of DWTSand earned instant heartthrob status with his charm and looks.

“We were talking about partners and it was my mother who said, ‘I hope you get Tristan, because he’s sexy. You’ll like him.’ ” says Anderson. “And here I am. (My mother) is so excited. She’s coming to the first show.”

Anderson is off to Rio Wednesday with MacManus along for the ride. “I’m going to take my sweaty Irishman down there,” she laughs, pointing out that it’s a work visit.

But it doesn’t stop her from dreaming. “I’m 45 he’s 30. But maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be,” says Anderson, before catching herself. “Not good. Not good.”

12 more days, All!! I’m with Pam’s Mom. I’m excited. Speaking of, enjoy this awesome homage to the new season by PureDWTS reader Linde this morning!! This is too fun. See if you don’t agree…

And to prove the point, my traditional (does the fifth time out count as tradition?) homage to the season, with a hefty nod to Freddie Mercury:

Joey has danced
night after night
Melissa is ready
and committed to fight
Kirstie and Pam
Apolo too
have had their share of sand kicked on their shoes
and all came through

These are the All Stars – my friends
and Shawn keeps on dancing – ’til the end
these are the All Stars
these are the All Stars
no time for Bristol
’cause these are the All Stars… on the floor

Helio’s had time
and Kelly as well
to know that life and living and everything that goes with it
all goes to hell

Sabrina’s returning
in redemption shoes
Drew considers it a challenge, but rise to it he will
while Gilles prays not to lose

These are the All Stars – my friends
and Emmitt will keep dancing – ’til he’s spent
these are the All Stars
these are the All Stars
no time for hoofers
’cause these are the All Stars – my friends
