I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Carrie Ann Inaba Talks “Famous Dance Night” in her DWTS Blog

Carrie Ann talks about why she handed out the scores she did – does she read this site? 🙂  I don’t agree with a lot of her rationale….or, I should say, I agree with a lot of her ratonale, just not the score that came from her rationale, if that makes sense.  I’ve put an excerpt from Parade, below, but be sure to click the link to read the whole thing.

Someone else who struggles with the same problem of not always being aware of her complete movements is Alexa Penavega. Her routine last night was to “I’m a Slave for You” by Brittney Spears, and she and Mark Ballas just didn’t quite deliver the quality of movement needed to pull off that number. It’s a hard pill to swallow after receiving the first perfect score of the season last week, and then being in jeopardy last night. My heart goes out to her. But she really does have the ability to be incredible. I think what is lacking is confidence. To know you own the space on the dance floor is a really big part of winning this competition. When you have confidence, your body dances differently. It’s like when someone walks into a room with confidence and they seem larger than life. When someone just as beautiful walks into the same room without confidence, they don’t seem to fill the room. How you feel about yourself while doing the routine is a big factor. I know these dances can be challenging and some styles are better suited to various individuals. But after you’ve rehearsed it, you have to get out there and know that no one else will ever do that routine again. It’s uniquely your performance so do it with all your confidence, and you will for sure excite us all.

___

When I think of strong and steady, I think of Alek Skarlatos. He is really a strong and steady performer. I don’t sense a lot of doubt in himself when he dances. His only weakness is that he hasn’t had a lot of experience performing. This is what makes everyone love him so much. Paula Deen said last night that she was a fish out of water. But I think actually it is Alek that is the fish out of water. With no performance background, he really is impressive. But this is what he needs to work on to be a contender. And don’t get me wrong. I do think he has the potential. I suggested he work with Artem Chigvintsev to learn a bit more of the masculine performance skills and a bit more flair. Lindsay has already done such an incredible job with his technique that he is solid and steady and a good partner! But his recreation of Elvis’s performance last night made it evident that as we head down the final stretch, he is going to need to up his game to stay in the ballroom.

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 6 – Power Rankings

*slow clap* Great job on a completely un-fishy, totally coherent evening of scores and critiques, judges. No really, you really did well. *eye roll* This had to be one of the most ridiculous, incongruent, completely-out-of-left-field nights the judges have had in a LONG time.  I can think of two routines that were grossly overscored, and two or three that were underscored; I also feel like some couples got picked apart with a fine-toothed comb while others just got glossed over with praise and any mistakes completely disregarded. Only explanation I’ve got? Certain “chosen ones” are not getting the votes they need to stick around, and they need a boost; while some of the have-nots that shouldn’t be so popular (in their eyes) are just raking in the votes. Resist the urge to meddle, PTB – karma is a heinous bitch, and as we’ve seen…your actions can often have unintended consequences.

I kinda felt like something was amiss when they made a point of having Carrie Ann  spell out what the judges were looking for at the beginning of the show – it was almost as if they had been lurking in the comments here at Pure and saw what issues we had been discussing with regard to “Iconic Dance” week…y’know, the whole “where are they going to draw the line between staying faithful to a dance and actually doing the assigned dance style” issue. *waves* Keep lurkin’, guys – I’ve got so much more to say 😉 Also odd? Leah felt really clunky and awkward tonight – nothing like the smooth, at-ease Leah who cohosted a year ago when Erin had to cover the World Series. She was hilarious then – she was painful tonight. Bring back the Leah that was bopping Derek in the face with a microphone, PLEASE 😀

On a more positive note, I loved the opening number – hard to beat Karina channeling Flashdance, Derek channeling Singin’ in the Rain, and Keo doing his best MC Hammer – dare I say it’s a rather fitting role? Kind of a minor sensation, probably outlived his 15 minutes of fame, ridiculous outfits… Read more..

Pure Dancing With The Stars Season 21 Week 6 Media And Interviews – Videos

What a great night on Dancing With The Stars. I thought the producers really stepped it up last night. I was so happy to see an opening number. My three favorite dances were Derek & Bindi, Nick & Sharna, and Tamar & Val!! I was sad to see Paula go, but, what a great run she had. I am going to miss her heart and entertaining, fun, and happy spirit. I don’t ever think I’ll forget her laugh either. Huge kudos to Louis too. I enjoyed him and this partnership so much, I’d love to see him return as a pro next season.

So, below are the scores again….

Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough 10-10-10-10 40 total
Tamar Braxton & Valentin Chmerkovskiy 10-10-10-10 40 total
Andy Grammer & Allison Holker 10-10-10-10 40 total
Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess 9-10-10-10 39 total
Carlos PenaVega & Witney Carson 10-9-9-10 38 total
Hayes Grier & Emma Slater 8-8-8-8 32 total
Alexa PenaVega & Mark Ballas – 8-7-7-8 30 total
Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold 8-8-7-7 30 total
Paula Deen & Louis van Amstel 6-6-6-6 24 total- Eliminated

For some new interviews (though not many since the couples went to team rehearsals right after the show. The press only got 10 minutes to interview), first, be sure to catch a few interviews at E Online including one with Olivia Newton John and her daughter. People also chatted with a few of the couples. Glamour recaps the dances and the night. Be watching this link as they may post more later from behind the scenes including photos. Also, for lots more with Bindi and Derek, see Pure Derek Hough.

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 7 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Team Dances and Halloween….this seems verrrry familiar. Keep an eye out for Courtney announcing the teams later tonight. I expect she’ll stick a link in here when/if she finds out. I’m getting sicker by the minute so I’m going to bed shortly.

Very happy with Bindi’s dance – will be interesting to see if she can pull it off. Could be a challenge.

ETA: Teams for team dances are here. Can I sleep now? -Court-

ETA2: Got the other song for the team dance, and one of the team names.  A few other bits of intel over on the team dance post. Also hearing that there may be more than one Argentine tango this week…-Court-

ETA3: Scroll down for Team names and photos – guess who’s already in charge. 🙂 Also, according to their Afterbuzz interview, Val and Tamar have foxtrot but that may change, which could well be code for “They pick on Tamar when in hold so Imma change our dance.” ~Heidi

ETA4: Linday and Alek say they are dancing their V.Waltz to Haunted by Beyonce which is apparently a new song (from the 50 Shades soundtrack – Court). Oh, and Emma may not be available, although Alek has a crush on her. Hmmm… 🙂 Thanks to Jen for the heads up.

ETA5: Got Tamar & Val’s song – guess they are going for foxtrot after all. Carlos also shared on Instagram that he & Witney have paso doble. -Court-

ETA6: According to Mark’s instagram, they are doing a Paso to something from Edward Scissorhands. Scroll to the bottom for photo from Mark. 🙂 And then, George Pennachio stars spilling songs and dances. There’s likely a press release somewhere but I’m not Vogue. 🙂

ETA7: Very interesting that Carlos’ song is missing from Broadway World’s post…hmmm….but anyway, our source has the song below for him. 🙂

ETA8: Nick and Sharna are dancing first, according to George Pennachio and Bindi is sometime in the second hour. I’m sure there’s more, but I’m playing catch up here. Hayes and Emma are in the first hour. Interesting to see Carlos is last.

Dancing with the Stars Season 21, Week 6 – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)

Week 6 already!! Wow…time flies.

Well, I think it’s been a good season so far – light on the manipulation and shenanigans (until last week). I expect that may all change tonight. Either way, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.  Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

T-minus 15 minutes…

LOL – Robert (Bindi’s bro) is on All Access – so cute.

So, great opening number…off the top of my head I saw Singing in the Rain (Derek), Flash Dance (Karina), ONE….what else….

CAI just said they would be looking for the style they were assigned. I smell BS already.

Thought Hayes and Emma did really well – a tiny bit hosed by the judges, I think I would have gone a bit higher. Read more..
