PureDWTS Season 18 End-of-Season Awards – Which Guest Judge Was the Best?

So now that the voting is closed on our biannual end-of-season awards, it’s time to reveal the results – and for me and my fellow mods to weigh in :-) So let’s get to it…

bestguestjudge

Courtney: As I think most of us suspected, Kenny ran away with this one – he seemed to be the one guest judge this season that everyone seemed to universally agree was both qualified to judge and would actually give good feedback.  And he did – my only complaint is that they held off until week 9 to have him judge, and I think by that point the feedback the judges give is almost universally positive and you rarely hear much actual criticism…so I think I would have liked him a bit earlier in the competition when he could have given some really good advice, and I wish they would have saved one of the softer judges (like Robin) for the week 9 gushing and parade of 10′s.  I actually voted for Ricky on this one, because I kinda dug that he seemed to refuse to conform to the judges’ predetermined rhetoric for each couple – the judges may have been raking Charlie & Sharna across the coals for their paso, but Ricky wasn’t afraid to say “I see what you’re saying, but I totally loved it! TEN!!!!” Not at all surprised at who ended up at the bottom of the list – although I do find it a bit funny that Redfoo beat out Donny :-P

Heidi: I’m guessing the Donny fans have learned their lesson about this site and aren’t darkening our doors anymore. Although, congrats to them, they are no longer the worst fan group to bug the shit out of us. :-) Kenny Ortega has CRED. Even the pros were thrilled to be dancing in front of him…and he has the ability to give them jobs, if they play their cards right. Hey, maybe he’ll make a Meryl and Maks movie. :::snort::: Although, I will say…the acting was decent. ;-)

Vogue: I may be nuts (well, this you already know. lol), but, I threw my vote to Redfoo. Technically, Julianne and Kenny were the best judges, but, Redfoo was so entertaining. He game me some “moments” I won’t soon forget. He brought that “Wooooooo”‘s home and especially for Amy and Derek’s dance for just what I was feeling. What a crack up. I also enjoyed Ricky Martin. He gave Charlie and Sharna a deserving 10 despite whatever the other judges were going on about. So huge kudos to him.

Vote for Your Favorites in the PureDWTS Season 18 End-of-Season Awards!!!

So against my better judgment, I decided to resurrect these awards, after skipping them for a few seasons :-P Just figured that everyone had some pretty strong opinions about this season, and would want to discuss (or argue…) about some of the finer aspects of this season…so here’s the gist:

1.) You get one vote per award category.

2.) If you don’t see your first choice listed, you are able to write-in votes for SOME of the categories – but here’s my strong words of caution: seldom do write-in votes win these awards, so I would encourage you to only write-in if you feel really strongly about something; if your write-in vote is grossly misspelled, doesn’t make sense, or cannot be understood, I’m throwing it out – I’ve had too many seasons of weeding through pages upon pages of write-in votes that were only slightly above jibberish in terms of clarity.  And if you decide to be a little jerk and answer questions like “Which was the best dance of the season?” with “All of Meryl’s dances!!!” or “tie between Meryl’s tango, Candace’s contemporary, Amy’s Argentine tango, and Charlie’s jazz”, I’m throwing out your vote.  Pick ONE – like all of the people courteous enough to actually follow the rules of this poll.

3.) Polls will be up for ONE WEEK – so get your votes in NOW. Read more..

More Photos Of DWTS Karina Smirnoff And Slavik Kryklyvyy, Miami Dance Show Coming Up

Wasn’t this a great moment on Dancing With The Stars this week? I loved it….and it’s always great to see Karina Smirnoff with the cast this season as many of us were sad to see her and Sean Avery leave the show so soon.

Speaking of Karina, M. Zin sent us a link where you can view more beautiful pictures of she and Slavik Kryklyvyy dancing in Dance Legends in New York City. You can view them at Dance Sport Photography and Stephen Marino Photography at Facebook. Also (and I think someone posted about this in comments last week), Karina and Slavik will be dancing together again in Miami on April 26th. If interested in tickets, see the Miami Open. Let’s hope someone is there to take more pictures of them dancing together as they are just steaming up the dance floor again!

PureDWTS Season 18, Week 6 – Power Rankings

So as predicted, the show took a few liberties with “party anthems” last night – I can’t speak for you guys, but I’ve never been drunk off my heiny at a frat party and gone “OMG!!! This is my JAAAAAMMMM!” while toasting my Keystone in the air to “You’re the One That I Want” from Grease.  But hey, that’s just me :-P I’m also not quite sure that “Feels So Close” is even popular enough to receive “anthem” status, but maybe at 29 I’m just getting too old to know what’s popular…

Anywho…so Redfoo (aka Berry Gordy’s baby boy) did about as well as a guest judge as we expected him to – he was there more for entertainment value, comic relief, and self-promotion more than any sort of constructive input on the dances, but I was oddly ok with the whole thing because I don’t think it really affected the scores or critiques for better or worse.  I’d much rather hear Redfoo’s incoherent analogies about crustaceans running in the sand and NeNe being an entrepreneur than Donny Osmond’s self-centered prattling (or worse yet – the hellfire which I imagine the insidious Abby Lee Miller will be raining down on Derek & Mark two weeks from now 8-O ).  I can’t imagine he’s up to a whole lot since LMFAO decided to go on hiatus a year and a half ago – I have a feeling that the call he got from TPTB went something like this: “So Redfoo, we want you as a guest judge on DWTS!” “Sounds cool, but what’s in it for me?” “$100 bucks, a sammich, and your own personalized set of neon zebra print paddles!” “I’M SO THERE!!! Let me just go tease my hair real quick…”

Kinda sad to see Drew go, but I think he was ready – seemed like he was getting really tired and burnt out, and hadn’t been able to recapture the magic of his switch week dance with Witney in these past two weeks with Cheryl.  Really & truly, I wish it had been NeNe – and I guess I’m hoping that the novelty of her is beginning to wear off and we might say goodbye to her next week.  She may be fun to watch, but at this point, I feel like she’s not really even picking up legitimate choreography – it’s just a lot of booty shaking and “NeNe-ing” around the floor and getting absurdly high scores, while others doing appropriate choreography (namely Candace & Charlie) just can’t seem to catch any breaks with the judges.  What gives??? PureDWTS Season 18, Week 6 – Party Anthem Week Song Predictions!!!

So next week promises to be either totally awesome or a complete trainwreck :-P Maybe a bit of both.  Should be interesting to see what they pick as “party anthems” considering some of the songs they picked for prom week in season 16 were pretty debatable as songs one might hear at the prom, so I won’t be shocked if we hear something like “Friday” by Rebecca Black this coming week as a “party anthem”.

So far, I have a few hunches: one is that they’re going to probably reuse some songs we’ve heard in the past, to save some time & money.  Second hunch? They won’t be able to resist using at least one LMFAO song, since Redfoo is the guest judge – question is, will somebody get it as their actual performance music, or will it be used for the pro dance? Third hunch: if these songs are considered “party anthems”, they’re probably pretty well-known and have been commercially successful at some point.  Below is a list I’ve compiled of songs used on the show in the past that might be considered “party anthems” – I’ve divided them up by the dance they correspond to, but that’s not to say that TPTB (in their infinite wisdom) will actually use them for the dances they’re intended for :-P I’ve bolded the ones that I have a strong feeling we’ll see again this week – and no, that’s not me hinting at a song spoiler, because I haven’t talked to Deep Throat yet this week.  Just purely a Court gut feeling. Don’t get it twisted, kids. ;-) I’ve also added a few that we haven’t seen on the show, that I just think might fit the bill – those are in blue. Read more..

GMA Coverage Of DWTS Eliminated Couples, Judges Name Next Week’s Guest Judge

Lot’s of fun coverage today of the eliminated couples on Good Morning America thanks to the Vocal Vault, Karina, and @GMA. Plus, the judges announced Robin Roberts will be the celebrity guest judge on Dancing With The Stars next week (Awww, I love her). Note too how they said there will be a guest judge every week from next week forward (wow, ok, but, isn’t that a little much?) Also, note how Sean remarked in his interview that he and the producer had a disagreement which he thinks sealed his fate, but, I don’t think that had anything to do with him being eliminated, do you? I think his fan base was too small compared to Billy Dee’s (who I think should have left before Sean)? Let us know what you think. Below is more in detail…

ETA: Ricky Martin and Redfoo from the band LMFAO will also be judging in the next weeks as well as Mario Lopez and Julianne Hough as previously reported.
