DWTS Alumni Ron Artest, Jenny Garth To Star In New Nancy Grace Lifetime Movie

Ron Artest and Jenny Garth will have parts in a new movie adaptation of Nancy Grace’s first novel, “The Eleventh Victim”. As you know, all three were once contenders on Dancing With The Stars (although in different seasons). The new movie is set to premiere in the fall on the Lifetime Movie Network. Below are more details from TV Guide.

How, you may ask, did this highly unusual bit of casting come about? Turns out World Peace and Grace became fast friends during their stint on Season 13 of Dancing With the Stars. (Garth is also a Dancing alum.) The Garlan character “is very dear to my heart,” says Grace, who authored The New York Times best-selling novel based on her real-life experiences and serves as one of the film’s executive producers. “I wanted to cast someone for whom I have a true fondness. Metta World Peace was my first pick.”

The Eleventh Victim follows Garth’s character as she pursues the conviction of serial killer Clinton Burrell Cruise. The case becomes personal for Hailey when she is physically attacked by Cruise in open court. While still recovering, Hailey moves to New York and begins a new career as a therapist. When her clients start to turn up dead — with the murderer using the same M.O. as the Atlanta killer she put behind bars — she is forced to help catch a cold-blooded killer who could very well make her his next target.

It’s so cool to see Nancy, yet again, broadening herself. She’s more than just an outspoken, former prosecuting attorney with a controversial talk show. I gained whole new respect for her after she did Dancing With The Stars. Here’s to her new movie!

DWTS14 Casting Rumors – The Typecasting of Season 14, Part I

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m just ready for the cast announcement so we can get all of this speculating over & done with! But to help us get a handle on who might be in and out, let’s take a look at what combination of “casting types” we might get this season.

The Olympian

Previous examples: Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson, Apolo Ohno, Natalie Coughlin, Misty May-Treanor, Maurice Greene, Louie Vito, Evan Lysacek, Hope Solo

Advantages: The winningest of the 12 types, their obvious advantage is their athleticism – you won’t see these guys struggling with strength or endurance moves.  In addition, the same tireless work ethic that helped them medal in the Olympics will likely carry them through the toils of the competition. They also seem to be adored by the masses, as many are seen as “hero” figures – which translates into a formidable voting fanbase.

Disadvantages: For those specializing in sports that are less “artistic” (i.e. swimming, running, volleyball), it might be a bit hard to really get into the character of the dance and truly perform to the crowd.  Previously incurred injuries (or the fear of incurring an injury that might hinder their participation in subsequent competitions in their sport, a la Misty May-Treanor) may also slow them down & limit their mobility.

Possible candidates this season: The only semi-legitmate Olympian prospect I think we’ve heard is Bruce Jenner – and I would like to think that TPTB would have mercy and not subject us to back-to-back seasons of Kardashians in the audience :-D

The Athlete

Previous examples: Chuck Liddell, Warren Sapp, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Helio Castroneves, Laila Ali, Floyd Mayweather, Ty Murray, Evander Holyfield, Jerry Rice, Clyde Drexler, Monica Seles, Jason Taylor, Lawrence Taylor, Chad Ochocinco, Kurt Warner, Rick Fox, Sugar Ray Leonard, Chris Jericho, Hines Ward, Ron Artest

Advantages: As with the Olympians, their athleticism & work ethic make them well-suited to the competition.  An edge they might have over their Olympic counterparts: sports like football, auto racing, & mixed martial arts tend to have a larger, more mainstream following than some of the Olympic sports.

Disadvantages: Again, a lack of “artistic” experience & previous injury (especially with the football players, who have really taken a beating over the years). Some of the more muscular athletes in hard-hitting sports may also have difficulty with the refined, precise moves of some of the dances.

Possible candidates this season: Vince Young tweeted that he had been asked to the do the show, then suspiciously deleted the tweet.  Guilty much? ;-) We’ve also heard Annika Sorenstam’s name in the mix.

DWTS13 End-of-Season Award Winners – Which Dance Was the Worst?

Other responses:

Hope & Maks’ rumba – 6

Ricki & Derek’s jive – 3

Hope & Maks’ first jive – 3

Chaz/Any dance from Chaz – 3 (Another one I’m tempted to throw out, because this seems a bit mean-spirited…and it doesn’t follow the directions)

Hope & Maks’ paso doble – 2

Elisabetta & Val’s cha-cha – 2

Ricki & Derek’s samba – 1

David & Kym’s rumba – 1

Ricki & Derek’s freestyle – 1

Rob & Cheryl’s samba – 1

Nancy & Tristan’s rumba – 1

Chaz & Lacey’s rumba – 1

Ricki & Derek’s paso doble – 1

Too many to list – 1

Courtney: Again, no big surprises here – looking back, I really do think Ron/Metta & Peta’s cha-cha was pretty hard to watch…and just kind of bizarre.  Hope & Maks’ tango, while very “clunky”, didn’t seem as bad to me – she was at least trying, where I felt like Ron just said “f*ck it” and was out there just winging it.  I have to give Nancy & Tristan’s jive a bit of a free pass, considering they got what I think could be the WORST jive song in the history of the show.  Chynna  had a brain fart – yes, it was hard to watch her crash & burn out there, but after seeing their encore performance during the finale, the dance itself didn’t seem quite so bad.  I would say that Rob & Cheryl’s Viennese waltz the first week had the potential to be as bad as Ron’s cha-cha, but Cheryl is such a pro at this point, I think she managed to conceal more of Rob’s flaws with backleading than Peta did with Ron’s.  JR & Karina’s cha-cha – yeah, it was a pretty hot mess, but I found that JR’s dancing in the finale was generally not up to snuff with the other stuff he had done all season…chalk it up to injury, I guess.  David & Kym’s jive was another hot mess, but again – he at least looked like he was trying.  It’s funny how effort can make or break a dance for me – a dance can be a hot mess, but I tend to cut it a bit of a break if I feel like the celeb is at least TRYING.  Likewise, a dance can be pretty good, but if I feel like the celeb is not really trying  or doesn’t really care (think Kate Gosselin) – I cannot bring myself to like it, no matter how great it may be.  Rounding out the write in category, I’ve got to raise my eyebrows at some of the responses, unfortunately.  Regardless of how one feels about Chaz’ life decisions, I don’t think all of Chaz’s dances were the worst ones this season, by any stretch – in fact, his cha-cha and samba were both pretty good, in my eyes.  And regardless of how one feels about Ricki and/or Derek, I don’t think any of their dances came close to being the worst, either – I think they may have gotten excessive praise for a few of them, but I don’t think any of them are inherently bad.  Hell, I was actually surprised that no one brought up their 80’s foxtrot – if any of their dances seemed even remotely qualified to be the worst of the season, it was that one…but again, I blame a crappy song and theme.  It’s funny that people bring up Hope & Maks’ rumba – with all the drama that followed it that week, I think it may have colored some people’s opinions of that dance for the worse; however, I actually kinda liked it, because Hope actually seemed to let go and show some vulnerability that week.  I just hated those damn flat boots she had to wear :-)

Heidi: Heh. I forgot Ron was even on this past season, so it would be difficult for me to call him the “worst” – maybe being utterly forgotten is worse than being the worst. :-)  I always laugh when someone throws in Ricki and Derek for a “worst dance” category.  She was not Derek’s best partner ever, but worst out of this group? LOL – I think a bit of envy is at play here.  I will also freely admit that Maks’ and Hope’s behavior toward the end of the season completely colored my thoughts on their dancing and, frankly, them as people.  But you know what? That is the risk you take when you persist in that type of behavior with no apologies. You have to own it.  Be responsible for it.  Like it or not, you’re on TELEVISION and what you do will have an impact on people, either positive or negative.  Now, I’ve had a negative opinion on Maks before and he turned it (and me) around with Kirstie. He may be able to do it again. But how many times can one keep making the same mistake before they just get written off?  So, at the end of the day, that is likely what you’re seeing in the number 2 ranking for Hope and Maks – unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your POV) I’m rarely alone in my opinions or reactions. I’m just not that unique. :-)  As for Tony and Chynna – I think people are very sympathetic with someone just blanking on someone and then feeling awful about it. Sympathy plays a huge part in this show, as we’ve said time and again. Plus, I think most people can see the difference between forgetting ones steps and being a “bad” dancer.  I don’t think she got voted out for blanking, I just don’t think she had a fanbase to begin with and her previously good scores had been protecting her from elimination.

Vogue: Wow, I’m shocked to see Maks and Hope’s Tango scoring so high for worst dance? 8O But, looking back at it again, I was quickly reminded of her “attitude” which was turning a lot of fans off at the time including myself. I also thought Tony and Chynna’s Tango would have scored higher as “worst dance”. In the end, I agree with who won in this catagory. Ron didn’t even seem to care and Peta seemed to have given up as well on him which I didn’t fault her a bit. If she comes back this next season, I really hope she gets a good partner. I’d really like to see her given a good chance to teach.

Vote for Your Favorites in the DWTS13 End-of-Season Awards!

It’s time once again to vote for your favorites/least favorites in our semiannual end-of-season awards! While Heidi & I’s cheesecake awards are more humorous (and just bestowed by she & I), this is a chance for you guys to weigh in on the bests and worsts of this past season, and for us to be a bit more serious.  To see examples of past award winners, check out the results of the season 11 & 12 end-of-season awards.

Of course, there are some guidelines before you vote.  Keep in mind that we tried to pick the most likely candidates for each category – ones that we felt most of you would probably pick, if asked.  There is no point in listing a dance like Ron & Peta’s cha-cha as a candidate for best dance of the season :-P However, if your pick for a certain award is not listed, there is an “other” box that you can chose and write-in your own nomination.  But be warned: if I cannot read what you wrote, I’m not even gonna bother counting it.  Spell check, kids :-) And if you write in something that’s already been listed as one of the choices, I’m throwing your vote out on principle alone – kind of like those tests that sees if you read all the instructions before proceeding.  Things were a bit less chaotic for last season’s awards than for season 11’s, but I still got quite a few badly misspelled, grammatically confusing, and downright incoherent answers that I had to throw out.  For the sake of my sanity, kids – at least try to make your choices clear ;-)  That said, VOTE AWAY! We’ll give you guys a week or two to get your votes in, and then we’ll reveal the results at a later date.

Keeping An Eye On: Celebs Who Were Rumored To Dance On DWTS

Just some brief mentions on some celebrities we’ve been keeping an eye on that were rumored to dance in some previous seasons of Dancing With The Stars. First of all, let’s not forget about “Deadliest Catch” star Sig Hanson. This past June, he was reported as saying he will participate on Dancing With The Stars in the Spring. Here is more from Reality Blurred at the time…

Deadliest Catch star and Northwestern captain Sig Hansen said he’ll participate in Dancing with the Stars next spring.

The St. Pete Times’ Eric Deggans reports that “the possibility Hansen might fulfill his longtime dream of competing on Dancing With the Stars in March 2012” is “the kind of success they could scarcely have predicted when [executive producer Thom] Beers first suggested putting a film crew on their boats for the first time.”

Specifically, Sig said, “So they’re looking at it for next March and I’ll do it. I think it’d be good for the brand, once-in-a-lifetime thing, and it’s fuckin’ cool, you know? Why not, you know? … I think it’d be fun. It’s just, you know, why not? I’m living life. It’s been fun and as long as it doesn’t hurt my relationship with my wife, I’m good with it.” (That quotation didn’t make the story but Deggans provided it to me from the transcript of his interview.)

Also, did you note how Lee Meriwether was in the audience watching the show one night this past season?? She tweeted about it and was an avid supporter to J.R. through out the season. As you might know if you are a follower to this site, Lee has been very interested in dancing on the show for the past two seasons. Let’s not forget she’s made it a point to ‘follow’ a lot of Dancing With The Stars fans at twitter. Will Dancing With The Stars Season 14 finally be her time to dance? As you can see from her twitter account, she’s nutty about Tom Bergeron too as many of us are. :)

Then there is pro woman wrestler Velvet Sky. She and her fans have been campaigning hard for her through out the Summer and Fall! I thought this recent tweet made by her on Oct. 1st was especially interesting….

Just wanna thank all u guys for the continued support in voting for me for DWTS! It’s lookin good! Please keep voting. http://t.co/BJPbgzG8
@VelVelHoller
Velvet Sky

Let’s get Heidi’s thoughts:

Heidi:  Velvet was never a rumor, she was a campaigner who made it sound like she was in the running.  Big difference…and I kinda doubt she will be successful.  But, you never know.  :-)

Speaking of campaigns versus actual rumors – Lorenzo Lamas was claiming not too long ago that he was on the “short list” to do the show…yet he (and Donna D’Errico) urged all his fans to vote for him at abc.com.  So, is this a rumor, wishful thinking on his part, or a savvy (kinda) campaign??  Who can tell – it’s Hollywood!! Clearly some are not above stretching the truth and there is no way of telling when someone is. :-)

What about rumors that seemed pretty solid??  Celebuzz said that Kim Richards was all signed up to do the show – wrong.  So, was she signed and got bumped??  Or did she tell Celebuzz what she was hoping for??  Either way, maybe she’ll show up on this coming season of the show. :-)

Then there are those tweeting a list of people who are “going to participate” and they actually get half of them right.  Well, what do you do with the other half of their lists?? Were those people in contention and got bumped or decided not to do it?? Or were they culling rumors like we do and just managed to get half right??  The Henry Winkler and Tiffany Thiessen rumors seem to fall into this category.  Don’t know what to make of it, actually.

Christina Milian is a rumor that I could get behind…if she was dancing with Derek. :-)  So much pretty on the dance floor. :::sigh:::  :-)  She seemed kinda solid for last season, but we know how that turned out…but never say never. Shawn Marion actually said he was offered, but didn’t want to take a chance with the lockout – as we know, Ron Artest didn’t mind taking the chance. This makes me think that we won’t see Marion any time soon – current basketball players two seasons in a row? Probably not.

Who else seemed like a possibility recently?? Well, Davy Jones, Evelyn Lozado, Matthew Finley….well, the list is too long, really.

Of course, this is where the internet noise machine becomes a problem – one person mentions a name as a “wish” then someone sees it and thinks it’s rumored….and before you know it it’s all over the freakin’ internet as a “fact”.  Let me tell you, sorting through all that crap to find the real deal is nearly impossible.  But at least we’ll tell you when we’re not sure. :-)  Which is MOST of the time.  And this is the time that I chuckle as I remember all the Hope Solo fans who told us, categorically, that Hope was NOT doing the show after we reported she was.  So, all the talk is hard to decipher.

There are probably several hundred other people who were rumored in the past who we should be keeping an eye on – but this is a start for now.  :-)

How Did Your Early Predictions For DWTS Season 13 Stack Up With The Results?

1.Forecasting the frontrunners. She predicts that J.R. Martinez will walk away with the Mirror Ball trophy this season, with Ricki Lake and Rob Kardashian not far behind.

The above quote was taken from Fitness Magazine from an interview with Anna. She made that winning prediction for Season 13 in October. As you can see she ended up being dead on with it. This got me thinking about our Dancing With The Stars early prediction posts before Season 13 started. Do you remember how you ranked the contestants before they started dancing and were you wrong, right, or close?

Some of you posted your thoughts in Marianya’s Prediction Stat Post while some posted their predictions in Courtney’s Part One and Part Two Preliminary Power Ranking posts. As you can see, Courtney and Marianya were pretty close for how the competition turned out. What’s interesting is Marianya was probably the only one from almost all of us who predicted Rob to do so well….and what’s more Marianya put him as high as 3rd place!

Heidi ended up being amazingly psychic as always when she predicted Kristin to “pull an Audrina” by exiting the competition early in Marianya’s Post. She predicted the same with Chynna. Heidi also predicted J.R. to win in her Part 2 Ringers Post.

Almost all of us chose Rob and Nancy to finish last. The majority felt pretty negative on those two. To our pleasant surprise, we ended up loving them. Rob and Nancy ended up showing other sides to themselves that we didn’t know about and staying in the competition more than many of us forecasted.

Anyway, take a look back at the links above if interested. It’s fun to see how close or far we came from the results and what we (the bloggers and fans) wrote. My early first prediction for the top five were David, JR, Ricki, Elisabetta, and Kristin…and well, we all know how that turned out. LOL!!

lolDWTS Season 13, Week 1

This little crime against humanity is the brainchild of Courtney, who has a real way of bringing out the evil in me. :-) Those of you who heard cackling the other night? That was Courtney and I working on these little gems. If you are not familiar with lolcats at I can has cheeseburger, you will be a bit lost. You’ll catch on quickly. ;-)

Courtney’s Note: Originally, these were just supposed to be a few fun visual aids for the cheesecake (which is still on its way, we promise!) – but as you can see, it took on a life of its own :-) I like to think of it as the smartass Cliff’s Notes version of DWTS – so if you missed this week’s episode or just don’t care enough to watch, this should keep you in-the-know…and hopefully chuckling like we were while we were creating them! We are warped…please don’t judge us…oh, and feel free to tweet ‘em, use ‘em as profile pix, post ‘em on Facebook, etc. Just be sure to tell everyone where to find the knuckleheads that created ‘em ;-)

Dancing With The Stars Interview Round-Up ‘After The Results’ Week 1

ET and Access Hollywood has some fun interviews posted of the couples reaction after the Results were announced which I’ll go through below. But, be sure to visit On The Red Carpet for their interviews as well >>>>HERE. As always, George gets deep and the couples reveal a little on their dances next week!

First up, Elisabetta and Val!! They are so excited and relieved to be coming back! They thank everyone including everyone who voted in Italy. Val comments how next week will be completely different for props. They will be smaller than a bed and he plans to keep his shirt on (LOL!).

Chaz and Lacey go through the motions of how nervous they were during the elimination. Shaun comments that she had never seen a cast run up to a fellow cast member and give them lots of support when they were announced safe like they did with Chaz last night. I never have either. Way cool!!

Chynna tells Shaun how much her knees were shaking last night. Tony prepared her and said you can never count that you are safe on Results night, but, they are so relieved. Tony says his “crown jewels” are fine and he’s bought a cup for extra protection (LOL!!).

Nancy was sweating like never before last night. Her hands even shook like they did during her first trial. Tristan comments that you have to dance like it’s your last and just savor each moment on Dancing With The Stars even though the results show can be agonizing.

Below is David and Kym talking about their survival and the pressure and tension they put into the results show. They also discussion his good luck charm and his abs.

Be sure to see this interview round up too. It’s good!! Thanks to Heidi for this one!!

So, that is that!! Here’s to next weeks show. In the meantime, stay tuned for more news, interviews, etc….and, of course, Heidi and Court’s yummy Cheesecake that they are mixing and baking as I type!!! :)

So, below is Jimmy Kimmel with a 2 part interview with Ron Artest and Peta Murgatroyd. The mood is a little glum and yet, Ron keeps his sense of humor too. They talk of how maybe he was too much for America to handle on Dancing With The Stars….the name change, the hair, etc.. Ron admits he’s never seen the show before his appearance. Jimmy invites Peta to stay on his show. They burn the biggest dance shoes they ever have.

Here they are being interviewed on Access Hollywood and Good Morning America as well…
