PureDWTS Season 25 Cast Rumors: Did Bobby Brown Pull Out of DWTS?

If you believe US Weekly (and they’re usually pretty spot-on), then the answer is yes:

Bobby Brown had a change of heart. The singer was supposed to be a contestant on season 25 of Dancing With the Stars, but bowed out at the last minute, sources tell Us Weekly.

“Bobby Brown was originally slated to be on this new season of DWTS, but recently pulled out,” one source tells Us. “There were issues with his contract, and he couldn’t come to an agreement with ABC that it would be worth it to do the show.”

Sounds like somebody may have been holding out for mo’ money. Given that we’ve already spoiled the partners for the five female pros already confirmed for this season, I can only assume that Bobby was probably going to be the “surprise” 13th couple announced on Sept. 6, with Cheryl as his partner.  None of my sources had heard a peep about Cheryl’s partner – which makes sense, because it doesn’t sound like he was ever contractually locked down.

So this begs the question: will we still get 13 couples this season? And will Cheryl still get a partner? I’m thinking yes, because the show almost always has backup celebs in their back pocket – a good example is season 13’s Carson Kressley, who filled in at the last minute after Ryan O’Neal backed out. And honestly, given that Bobby is known for having a bit of a volatile personality, I’m not sure I would have wanted to see him this season – I’d rather see Cheryl with someone a bit more stable and willing to work.

Thoughts?

PureDWTS Season 18 Cast Watch: Interesting Things on Twitter/Instagram

So I know I’ve warned you guys not to read too far into who follows who on Twitter – but that’s exactly what I’m going to do right now.  😛 Do as I say, not as I do, kids! But for what it’s worth, in the past, we have been able to deduce some partnerships based on who the pros and/or rumored celebs recently started following on Twitter – and in season 11, we had a negligent casting director to thank for inadvertently spoiling the entire cast by following all of them of Twitter mere days before the announcement.  So what interesting stories might Twitter tell about this season’s celebs? Keep an eye on this page, as we may update it if some other interesting followings occur between now and the cast announcement…which we will be live blogging starting Tuesday morning, hint hint 😉

Things to keep in mind: the pros and celebs have gotten much, much more careful than they’ve been in previous seasons – they know we’re watching Twitter, so they aren’t likely to do something as dumb as each following their partner mere days before the cast announcement.  But they do slip-up from time to time, which is where we come in.  Keep in mind as well that the pros and celebs could have met in a capacity unrelated to the show – just because they’re following each other, does not mean they’re partnered together. Or that the celeb is doing DWTS 😛 Read more..

DWTS14 Casting Rumors – The Typecasting of Season 14, Part II

So we’re less than 24 hours away from finding out who is and isn’t part of this season’s cast.  Who’s pumped??? I know I am…but we’ve still got a few hours left to speculate, so let’s see what other cast types we’ve to fill this season, shall we? 😉 For those of you that may have missed it, check out part I as well.

The Teen Idol

Previous examples: Joey McIntyre, Aaron Carter, Donny Osmond, Lance Bass, Mel B., Joey Fatone, Drew Lachey, Joey Lawrence, Ian Ziering, Cody Linley, Sabrina Bryan, Mario Lopez, Kyle Massey, Chelsea Kane, Romeo

Advantages: If sales of Tiger Beat are any indicator, the teenyboppers will come out in full force to support their favorite heartthrobs/idols.  Being young & good-lookin’ sure doesn’t hurt! Many also have the added advantage of having a decent dance background, especially if they were part of a musical act.

Disadvantages: Youth can also have its disadvantages – as in immaturity.  What some might call “youthful exuberance”, others might call “immaturity” or “attention deficit disorder” – poor Cody Linley had a hard time sitting still! Emotional immaturity (a la Aaron Carter’s post-rumba meltdown in the confessional) can be especially off-putting. They’ve also got to contend with the large middle-aged female contingent of viewers/voters – they far outnumber the young viewers likely to vote for them.

Possible candidates this season: There’s that random Nicole Anderson chick that’s a friend of Chelsea Kane’s, and Heidi found some compelling evidence that rapper Darnell Robinson may be participating this season.

The Host

Previous examples: Jerry Springer, Brooke Burke, Leeza Gibbons, Mario Lopez, Kenny Mayne, Lisa Rinna, Tucker Carlson, Mark Dacascos, Rocco DiSpirito, Erin Andrews, Wendy Williams, Mike Catherwood, Carson Kressley, Nancy Grace, Ricki Lake

Advantages: Being that they’ve been at the helm of their own shows, these guys usually have the media savvy & charisma to appeal to the masses, as well as the previous exposure & recognizability.  Most (not all!) are also decently attractive, which never seems to hurt (unless, of course, you’re a model – see previous post for explanation).

Disadvantages: Many hosts are only used to hosting – as in just sitting down & talking (or dodging the occasional punch, if you’re Springer), so the lack of movement experience problem seems to come into play.

Possible candidates this season: This category seems to have EXPLODED with possibilities this season – the most solid of which being Sherri Shepherd, who was caught leaving the DWTS studio the other day.  I’m still wondering if someone fr0m GMA is part of the cast this season, since they all seemed to act so coy when announcing they’d be revealing the cast. And then we have the Maria Menounos rumor as well.

The Actor

Previous examples: John O’Hurley, Melissa Joan Hart, Steve Guttenburg, John Ratzenberger, Debi Mazar, Denise Richards, Ted McGinley, Shannon Elizabeth, Jennie Garth, Vivica Fox, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Shannen Doherty, Jennifer Grey, David Hasselhoff, Ralph Macchio, Kirstie Alley, David Arquette

Advantages: Being that their bread & butter is acting, most can usually nail the emotions of the dances. Bonus points if they’ve done any Broadway (like Winokur) because they have likely had dance experience.

Disadvantages: For lack of a better term, many of them seem to be “has-beens” – actors that haven’t been particularly active in the mainstream in the past several years – or were never that big to begin with (can anyone else think of anything John O’Hurley has been in BESIDES Seinfeld?), making it harder for them to garner votes from a public who may not remember them.

Possible candidates this season: We’ve got Melissa Gilbert & Ryan O’Neal, of course, but nothing really beyond that.

The Reality Star

Previous examples: Kim Kardashian, Kelly Osbourne, Melissa Rycroft, Steve-O, Holly Madison, Trista Sutter, Shanna Moakler, Kate Gosselin, Jake Pavelka, Audrina Patridge, The Situation, Rob Kardashian, Kristin Cavallari

Advantages: Many have achieved pop culture icon status on their respective reality outlets, making them fairly recognizable.

Disadvantages: They may be memorable for the wrong reasons – people tended to remember things like Kim Kardashian’s sex tape more than her reality show when she was on DWTS, and people seemed more focused on Holly Madison’s split from Hef than her antics on The Girls Next Door.  Many can also come across as attention-hungry & talentless(*cough*JakePavelka*cough*) – reality TV is often looked down upon as a way to get famous without having any talent whatsoever.

Possible candidates this season: Lots of talk about Ali Fedotowsky, who suspiciously moved to LA last week.

The Singer:

Previous examples: Mya, Billy Ray Cyrus, Mario, Belinda Carlisle, Master P, Chuck Wicks, Sara Evans, Willa Ford, Monique Coleman, Toni Braxton, Macy Gray, Nicole Scherzinger, Chynna Phillips

Advantages: As with the teen idols, many have had dance experience concurrent with their music careers.

Disadvantages: Most seem to be committed solely to one genre of music (often R&B or country), making it hard to appeal to a wide fanbase.

Possible candidates this season: Lots of loose lips at the Grammys about Gavin DeGraw, but it seems like less of a possibility now, considering that he is about to go on tour.

The Wild Card

Previous examples: Heather Mills, Tom DeLay, Mark Cuban, Steve Wozniak, Priscilla Presley, Buzz Aldrin, Bristol Palin, Chaz Bono

Advantages: The sheer novelty of having someone with such an off-the-beaten-path claim to fame (famous divorcee/widow, entrepreneur, disgraced politician, etc.) may be enough to have the public voting them – just to see what happens.  Being the “underdog” is a powerful thing…as we saw with Bristol in season 11!

Disadvantages: Due to their often dubious fame, people just may not have any clue who they are – I personally had to Google Mark Cuban’s name. There’s also the risk of backlash from some viewers who don’t think they’re “stars” per se, and shouldn’t even be on the show in the first place.

Possible candidates this season: Surprisingly, not too many outlandish rumors…especially since Herman Cain & Michelle Bachman have denied they’re doing the show. Phew!

So we’re getting down to the wire, kids…any last-minute predictions before the big reveal? 😉

DWTS14 Casting Rumors – The Typecasting of Season 14, Part I

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m just ready for the cast announcement so we can get all of this speculating over & done with! But to help us get a handle on who might be in and out, let’s take a look at what combination of “casting types” we might get this season.

The Olympian

Previous examples: Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson, Apolo Ohno, Natalie Coughlin, Misty May-Treanor, Maurice Greene, Louie Vito, Evan Lysacek, Hope Solo

Advantages: The winningest of the 12 types, their obvious advantage is their athleticism – you won’t see these guys struggling with strength or endurance moves.  In addition, the same tireless work ethic that helped them medal in the Olympics will likely carry them through the toils of the competition. They also seem to be adored by the masses, as many are seen as “hero” figures – which translates into a formidable voting fanbase.

Disadvantages: For those specializing in sports that are less “artistic” (i.e. swimming, running, volleyball), it might be a bit hard to really get into the character of the dance and truly perform to the crowd.  Previously incurred injuries (or the fear of incurring an injury that might hinder their participation in subsequent competitions in their sport, a la Misty May-Treanor) may also slow them down & limit their mobility.

Possible candidates this season: The only semi-legitmate Olympian prospect I think we’ve heard is Bruce Jenner – and I would like to think that TPTB would have mercy and not subject us to back-to-back seasons of Kardashians in the audience 😀

The Athlete

Previous examples: Chuck Liddell, Warren Sapp, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Helio Castroneves, Laila Ali, Floyd Mayweather, Ty Murray, Evander Holyfield, Jerry Rice, Clyde Drexler, Monica Seles, Jason Taylor, Lawrence Taylor, Chad Ochocinco, Kurt Warner, Rick Fox, Sugar Ray Leonard, Chris Jericho, Hines Ward, Ron Artest

Advantages: As with the Olympians, their athleticism & work ethic make them well-suited to the competition.  An edge they might have over their Olympic counterparts: sports like football, auto racing, & mixed martial arts tend to have a larger, more mainstream following than some of the Olympic sports.

Disadvantages: Again, a lack of “artistic” experience & previous injury (especially with the football players, who have really taken a beating over the years). Some of the more muscular athletes in hard-hitting sports may also have difficulty with the refined, precise moves of some of the dances.

Possible candidates this season: Vince Young tweeted that he had been asked to the do the show, then suspiciously deleted the tweet.  Guilty much? 😉 We’ve also heard Annika Sorenstam’s name in the mix.

Carson Kressley Talks Of DWTS Phone Call, Replacing Ryan O’Neal, and Lots More!

Thanks to Courtney, she found this fun, new interview with one of Dancing With The Stars’ most fun, crazy, and entertaining contestants, Carson Kressley (and make that one of the “most memorable” Dancing With The Stars contestants to as I don’t think any of us will ever forget Carson’s Moves Like Jagger and Vogue moves as long as we all live). Anyway, below is Carson being interviewed by A Spoonful Of Paolo in his home. Carson talks of the day he got called to do Dancing With The Stars and how he only had 30 minutes to decide since he was replacing Ryan O’Neal (as we all suspected was the case at the time). Of course, and as Courtney remarked to me, Carson also “talks glowingly (and hilariously) about Maks.” He does a funny impression of Anna as well. “The fun never stops” as Paolo writes at the You Tube link description. You’ll get to see Carson on a more personal and serious level too as he remembers his childhood, family, horses, etc. A must see…especially if you need a Carson Kressley fill to make your day!! 😉

Speculation: Whitney Port Interested In Dancing On Dancing With The Stars Season 14?

Let the new Dancing With The Stars Season 14 rumors and speculations begin! Already, you ask? Yes, ALREADY! 🙂 First, we reported on Ryan O’Neal in the beginning of the week as a possible contender for Season 14. Now a suggestive (or was it?) tweet from Hill’s star and fashion designer, Whitney Port, has left some wondering if she’s not a “viable” contestant for the upcoming season as well? Below is more from Entertainment Gather.

The 26-year-old Port posted an innocuous enough tweet to followers during the November 22 Dancing results show, writing “I am just loving this Dancing with the Stars finale!!! Makes me wanna dance!” But the hit dance competition is always looking for celebrity contestants, and reality stars have been popular choices during recent seasons. In other words, if she’s interested, she may well have a shot at being paired up with the likes of Derek Hough, Maks Chmerkovskiy or Tristan MacManus.

I checked with Heidi. We think this is more speculation at this point since Whitney’s tweet was just saying that the finale made her want to dance. Then again, you never know…especially when Dancing With The Stars is known to pick up reality stars every season? Could Whitney Port be one of them and how would you feel if she was?? I hate to admit…she definitely looks the the part and I bet she would be fun. I can see a Derek pairing in the making. 🙂

Anyway, this might be one example of what “speculation” might be like versus a true “rumor”. It’s fun none the less.

Thanks to Vin for the heads up on this article!xx 😉

Ryan O’Neal Planning To Do Dancing With The Stars Season 14

Ryan O’Neal recently gave Pet Life Radio a new interview. He discusses his fun little dog Mozart who was once homeless and their story. “It was love at first sight”.

Ryan also mentions his upcoming gig on Dancing With The Stars. Yes, that’s right!! Ryan is planning to do Dancing With The Stars Season 14 as we reported to you in September.

Be sure to listen to what he says on it in the new interview at Pet Life Radio HERE.

I’m excited about Ryan doing the show. What do you think? I hope his knees are up for it!!

By the way, for those that think Pure Dancing With The Stars sleeps during the off season, think again! We still report on all the news surrounding the show, the pros, and rumored contenders for the next season. We post interviews, questionaires, and polls. Court and Heidi will write new analogies, Who Wore It Better, and Cheesecake posts. We will hold a Post Awards and much much more. So, stay tuned and don’t go away!! 😉

Ryan O’Neal Plans To Win The Mirror Ball On Dancing With The Stars 2012

As reported to you earlier, a knee injury prevented Ryan O’Neal from “Dancing with the Stars” this season, but in a new Access Hollywood interview, Ryan told Access that he’ll be back next year and he plans on winning the mirror ball on Dancing with the Stars 2012! Note below how he said he has signed on and promised to do the show.

“I have one good knee. I had it redone. So I decided if I was really gonna do the show I should have my knee redone because the first one really works,” Ryan told Access on Wednesday night at an event hosted by Give Back Hollywood event for The Farrah Fawcett Foundation in Los Angeles.

“So I’ll get one more [good knee] then I’ll prepare for next season because I had to sign on, I had to give them [a] promise I would be on next season,” the 70-year-old actor continued. “I will win. I will win. If the gods are with us, I will win. I’m a pretty good dancer.”

Adding, “I’ll get one [knee] done in month and I guess I’ll learn the splits.”

I’m excited. I always liked Ryan and I hope he can do the show next season. There has been some rumors floating about that he didn’t dance this season because he doesn’t like Nancy Grace. Even if he doesn’t, I don’t think he’d let that stop him from dancing this season. But, who knows?

DWTS Season 13 – CAST LEAK!!!

It appears that @DWTSGossip is leaking the entire cast on twitter! On the one hand that’s great – I hate waiting. 🙂 On the other hand, please remember that it’s not official until they announce it tomorrow during Bachelor Pad. Be sure to join us here, when I’ll be live blogging the announcement and we can start officially complaining about the cast and screaming about ringers. 🙂

Here’s what they say:

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Season 13 – Rumor Round Up, Part II

Okay, it’s about that time again! Funny, I was thinking there hadn’t been enough new rumors to cover since I did Part I – and realized that I have a poor sense of what happened when. 🙂 There have been quite a few!!

Remember in that first post when I said how fun this was and it’s my favorite part of the season of blogging??  Well, that’s still true, and I enjoy my what seems like daily DM sessions with Vogue as we try to figure out what to post and what to ignore…but I’m ready for Monday now. 🙂 I’m tired of reading parts of Twitter that I normally would avoid like the plague and I’m ready to start writing fresh Cheese. 🙂  Only a few more days till the announcement!! Yay.  NOTE: Don’t forget that I’m live blogging the announcement right here at PureDWTS.  Once the announcement is made, I’m going to guess who got who (well, some of those are out in the open already 🙂 ) in a post that will likely be early Tuesday morning – get your guesses ready so you can add them in the comments.  Wednesday morning we will post the official pairings and let the screams of “ringer” and whining and hand wringing begin!! 🙂 I’ll go first…This is Maks’ FOURTH either high profile or talented partner in a row!!!  Heh. Just thought I would put that out there before people start bitching about Derek. 😀

On with the show…First up, those “rumors” that are pretty darn non-rumorish at this point:

Hope Solo – first it was a hint, then a tweet that sort of implied that she wasn’t, then it was a tease, and then she kinda outed herself on twitter.
David Arquette – seen at dance studio with Kym Johnson.

For New Rumors that Seem Solid:

Ryan O’Neal – this one comes from ET, which makes it somewhat credible.
Kim Richards – I only believe this one because it just came out yesterday and it sounds like Celebuzz spotted her at a dance studio. We’ll see. 🙂

Those Rumors that I Just Don’t Believe, for a Variety of Reasons:

Jenna Jameson – she’s a former porn star!!  But she was following some pros
Elisabetta Canalis – this came from E! News, who claim “many sources” are telling them Elizabetta is signing on. But this would be a new level of “WHO?” for most people, I think.

In the category of “Do DJs in Small Markets have any cred??”:

Erica Durance – think this one might be serious wishful thinking. It came from a comment on a USA Today article referencing what he heard a DJ say. Convoluted enough for ya?? 🙂 Her people have since said it’s false.
Henry Winklertwo different DJs tweeted about this one today and I don’t know what to make of it. Hmmm…

Which rumors do I think might be true?? Well, besides Hope and David, I think the following are pretty solid:

Chynna Phyllips
Kristin Cavallari
Chaz Bono (TMZ just claimed he’s in for sure. We said this days ago, hello?)
Kim Richards
Rob Kardashian

I have other thoughts, but these are all I’m willing to share right now. 🙂
