DWTS Season 15, Week 4 – Post Performance Media, On the Red Carpet

Like the title says…On the Red Carpet with George Pennachio.  I’m posting and running this morning  - no time to watch them all so I’ll guess and post one that might be annoying and one or two that might not be annoying. It’s a game. You can tell me how I did. :-) Oh, and click the link to see all the videos.

Annoying – LVA and Sabrina

MORE Annoying – Gilles

Maybe annoying if they are still going over the top with the smolder…maybe not. You tell me. :-)

Not likely annoying – Shawn and Derek

A long Paparazzi video that has lots of people in it. :-)

DWTS 15, Week 4 – Power Rankings

Well, this blasted non-ballroom (save for the mambo, and sorta-kinda the bolero) night played out just about like I thought it would: the hapless judges (aided and abbetted by the perpetually out-to-lunch Paula) kind of copped out on giving any seriously harsh scores, likely for the simple reason that they just didn’t know enough about the dances themselves to actually score properly.  The end result was some pretty general overscoring, and perhaps a tiny bit of relative underscoring.  But what worries me is that even though the spread may seem pretty big this week, more total points = smaller margins between points…meaning that it’s going to require fewer votes for those at the bottom to catch up with the rest of the pack.  And it makes me nervous for another “shock” elimination…but this time, I think it has the potential to be truly shocking.  8-O Let’s get on with it, shall we?

1.) Shawn & Derek – Best routine of the night, without a doubt – great, PROPER mambo choreography, and flawless execution.  I think these two may have had the toughest dance to contend with, for the simple reason that mambo has been done on the show before as a regular dance – and it has been done far more than any of the other dances on the list.  Add to that the constant pressure of the all-star season? If they had a bit of an off-week, I wouldn’t have blamed them.  But luckily, they absolutely KILLED this mambo – great tricks, a good amount of meat & potatoes choreography, and best of all – Shawn pulled off the “sassy” and sexy without a hitch, and looked great doing it.  :-) Very impressed with how she’s matured since her original season.  If I REALLY had to nitpick, I would say that it seemed like Shawn was sliding a little bit when coming out of her turns – very slight bobble, but it made me wonder if the floors tonight were a little slick – and could also be the cause of other snafus tonight.  Anyway, I think if they gave that hot mess of a Bollywood number that Gilles crapped out a 39.5, then this should have been a 42.  But Len, ever the fuddy-duddy, withheld that last half a point that would have put them at the top of the leaderboard.  Oh well – luckily it matters even less this week :-P

2.) Kelly & Val – Like almost all of their other dances this season, this came out far better than I would have anticipated – even if these two were kinda giving me the creeps with all of their brooding in the background all night.  :-P Was it truly “contemporary”? Meh…it had elements of contemporary, and it came far closer to contemporary than Emmitt did to bolero or Bristol did to rock ‘n’ roll.  But it was a pretty dance, and I do feel like they injected some emotion into it – which is really how contemporary came to be in the first place: ballet with emotion.  Kelly had some nice extensions and seemed to really connect to the dance…and really, Val did too, as much as he may have hated the style they got.  And he did get a few brownie points from me for calling Cheryl the b-word on national television, for all to hear :-P I think they may have gotten a little out-of-synch on the side-by-side sections, and I must confess that I didn’t really understand the purpose of the platform they climbed onto.  But overall, a very nice effort for a dance that neither party was particularly jazzed to have…and I’m sure we’ll be hearing buzz about this one for the rest of the week.  ;-) Read more..

Louis Van Amstel Talks to Parade Magazine about DWTS Season 15

Thanks to @DWTSGossip for the heads up on this one.

Oh boy. Look away, LVA fans, this dude works my last nerve and I ain’t afraid to say so.  Louis talks to Parade and he sounds…bitter. To say the least.

We have changed our tune a little bit. We got a message from Carrie Ann [Inaba] and the other judges. They complimented Sabrina on her technique and dancing, but somehow they’re not looking for dancing on a dance show. Carrie Ann said, ‘You’re playing it safe.’ We were not playing it safe, we were trying to stay within the rules. To me, that’s being respectful, but somehow being respectful was not appreciated. Having said that, it lights a fire, and it made us change some of our thinking. So in the end, I’m thankful. It’s like Christina Aguilera‘s “Stronger,” about thanking her ex-boyfriend for how he cheated on her because it made her a stronger woman.

On tackling the disco tonight.
We’re going for what a disco represents—a lot of fun and making sure we’re having a good time. I actually went and did research, and I was in for a lovely surprise that a lot of hip hop and jazz heritage comes from that era. I also looked at Saturday Night Fever, and I was surprised that the dance level has changed tremendously over the last 40 years. If I would literally do what John Travolta did then, it would not come across the same. So it’s kind of interesting how you have to kind of edit the iconic moves to make it interesting in 2012.

On their disco outfits.
We’re so close to Halloween, and with disco outfits, you can so quickly go costumey. We didn’t want to make a parody or make fun of disco, so we’re still going classy. We’re trying to really make a contribution rather than walking out in something over-the-top or cliche.

So, they’re not looking for dance on a dance show?? Er…sure they are, but they expect you to up your game. You absolutely WERE playing it safe. There was nothing new or creative there. And I suppose you think you’re the only ones dancing?? Uh huh. Let me guess – you’re pissed that Derek and Shawn did so well despite having gymnastics along with their dancing. Why don’t you look to Apolo for an exciting dance…hell, Kelly stayed with in the rules and was wobbly…but she was better than you and Sabrina were as well. Wait!!  Melissa and Tony too. :-)

By the way, maybe lose the window treatment disguised as a costume and I could at least focus on the dance more! You say you’re going classy…we’ll see. :-D

Who are the ones to beat from LVA’s POV?? Well, there’s a very notable name missing. I guess he doesn’t see the threat there??

From a dancing point of view, you can say Gilles [Marini], Shawn [Johnson], and Melissa [Rycroft], but then again, don’t count out Kirstie [Alley] and Bristol [Palin's] fan bases, because they have been on the bottom of the leaderboard. Kirstie was in jeopardy last week but Bristol hasn’t even been in the bottom two once. Emmitt Smith has a great fan base, he’s a phenomenal guy, and he has the moves. It just goes to show you that everybody is our competition.

DWTS All Stars, Week 3 – The Cheesecake Awards!!

Oooo…it’s getting super snarky in here. Hehehehe….

The Award for Pro Most Likely to Win the Role of Cinderella’s Ugly Step Sister: Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Heidi: Dude, seriously – you is one ugly woman. But as an androgynous man you ain’t half bad. :-) What was freaky was how UNLIKE himself he looked. Really, a shave and a wig and you’re nearly unrecognizable?? Amazing. :-)

Courtney: I just have to laugh at the wig itself – that was SERIOUSLY the best Mick Jagger wig they could find? I’d find it more believable if Mick Jagger circa 1970 looked more like a cross between Jim Morrison & a mustache-less Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride, with a smattering of the famous Farrah Fawcett hair flip in Charlie’s Angels.  And the pants? Would make Austin Powers himself jealous.  The end result was simultaneously hilarious and disturbing…in that Maks seemed to be enjoying himself just a teeny bit too much :-P

The “Google Is Your Friend” Award for General Cluelessness: Maksim Chmerkovskiy for not knowing what Androgynous means.

Heidi: Well, if it were ME and I didn’t know the meaning of the word that Kirstie was calling me all week long, I would: A) Realize that perhaps I needed a wee bit more education and B) GOOGLE IT. The embarrassing and hard way (but hilarious for the audience) to find out the answer to the question is on National Television. :-) Of course, you can’t know everything. But even a chimp can google. ;-)

Courtney: You know who else can Google? Muppets. :-P

The Award for the Worst Wardrobe Idea Since the Lacey Crotch Doilie (heh): Sabrina, Louis and the Wardrobe Department for the PURPLE Crotch Window Treatment

Heidi: That entire costume was godawful, but I kept getting distracted by the material dangling…down there.  It was just freakin’ weird!  I was like, what the hell IS that?? Of course, the other issue was waiting with baited breath to see if the top half of her costume would hold up to the work out that her boobage was giving it. Ahem…more support is a GOOD idea.

Courtney: Her boobs were REALLY ANGRY this week, as Mama Spence put it.  And each time she stomped or gesture wildly…it just looked painful.  And the big triangular purple phallus just made me chuckle like a 14-year-old boy.  Wonder if Louis was cranky because he was feeling inadequate by comparison :-P Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 15, Week 4 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

So, this is the week that DWTS copies SYTYCD (why copy a fading show??) and does it with crappy music.  Why?? And I also lament that the most creative choreographer on the show got stuck with something he’s done before and doesn’t seem that fond of. :::sigh::: So, he’ll get crazy, put some gymnastics in it, Gilles will whine it’s not fair and drink a bottle of booze (no glass, no class).  He will then imply that all Shawn and Apolo have to look forward to is a Pepsi commercial while he’s an ACTOR. Hehehe…but he got Bollywood. :-D

Gilles and Slumdog Millionaire. That’s like…totally original. Only not at all.  Not only that, but already done (badly) as Kyle and Lacey’s Argentine Tango. Of course, as a Bollywood number we’ll probably get something like Slumdog Millionaire.  It’s probably too much to ask to get the Jason and Caitlin version from SYTYCD.

Kelly dancing to Fix You by Cold Play? Like I said, SYTYCD…pretty sure that it will be hard to beat Allison Holker doing a Travis Wall number.  Of course, Allison is a professional dancer…which is exactly why it’s a bad idea to pick THIS song.

I went ahead an added Mark and Bristol’s song too, since dude tweeted a video of him and Bristol “dancing” to it. Unfortunately, she’ll probably do okay with this piece of cake song.

ETA1: Kirstie’s song is Slllllooooowwww….she should be able to do well. I’m sure “they” hope she does, those manipulating…. :-D  Strictly Come Dancing has done Charleston before, even found a Charleston montage from that show.    And LOL to the Korean school doing a Christmas Charleston.  Heh.

ETA2: Another cop out song. Not only has it been used on the show before by Joey and Kym for their Cha Cha, but it was used in the Vegas show that Sabrina was a part of.

ETA3: Geez. It’s apparent to Courtney and myself that they picked the songs so as to not complicate it further for the pros who got foreign dance styles. But surely they could have done better with the Mambo?? But Melissa certainly got lucky. If it weren’t for the fact that I would lay money on them having the song paired with the dance well before dances were picked for couples, I’d start to get suspicious.

ETA4: Someone had to bring in FOUR outside choreographers for help with her dance. And it wasn’t Karina. :-) Dang, Apolo hit the jackpot this week, provided that Karina can hip hop as well as she does everything else.

ETA5: Depending on how they set the show up, they’ve either put Emmitt and Cheryl at the top of the hour…or buried them. Curious to see which. :-)

ETA6: TPTB are showing family favoritism once again – Kelly has been in the last few dances all but ONCE.  Sabrina is the opposite, which isn’t good. I guess we’ll see if Kelly lives up to the hype. I like her, and her partnership with Val, but she certainly didn’t deserve top of the leaderboard last week. Will they keep protecting her – at Sabrina’s expense?? Or Shawn’s? At least they finally got Apolo towards the end.  He’s been stuck in the middle for three weeks.

ETA7: Hmmm…I find Gilles running order interesting, when looking at all four weeks. Not sure what to make of it. I want to say it’s cuz he’s a douchbag. :-D I hope that Bristol and Shawn are in the right spots, since going second is, historically, the worst spot. Maybe we can get rid of her?  Nah…bad feeling we’re going to lose someone really good while she sticks one more week.

ETA8: All kinds of changes. Apparently, Derek got their song changed (don’t ask me why I believe Derek did it) and I jumped the guy on Apolo being 8th – he’s 7th and Derek/Shawn are 8th. There’s a long story that has to do with someone telling me Melissa’s order wrong, followed by Karina saying they were dancing “close to the end”. Melissa’s order lead me to Apolo’s order. When I fixed the Melissa error, it didn’t occur to me that “close to the end” for Karina would be 7th. :::sigh:::  A number, Karina, I need a number. :-)

Dancing with the Stars All-Stars: Vegas Odds Going Into Week 4

And of course the week Vogue is out of town, we have actually have the biggest odds shakeup so far this season :-P According to Bovada, Emmitt has finally been bumped out of the top spot by Shawn, with Apolo still holding down the #2 slot.  Emmitt falls to 3rd, while at the bottom of the board, Sabrina falls hard, while Bristol makes a 3-fold jump. Crazy shuffling odds, Batman!!!

Odds going into Week 4:

Shawn Johnson – 7/4
Apolo Anton Ohno – 9/4
Emmitt Smith – 7/2
Gilles Marini – 13/2
Kelly Monaco – 12/1
Melissa Rycroft – 15/1
Bristol Palin – 25/1
Sabrina Bryan – 33/1
Kirstie Alley – 50/1

Last week’s odds going into week 3, to compare:

Emmitt Smith - 2/1
Apolo Anton Ohno - 3/1
Gilles Marini – 5/1
Shawn Johnson – 5/1
Helio Castroneves – 9/1
Sabrina Bryan - 10/1
Kelly Monaco – 22/1
Kirstie Alley – 22/1
Melissa Rycroft – 25/1
Drew Lachey – 30/1
Bristol Palin – 75/1

For the first time this season, I think they’ve actually got it JUST about right – I do think Shawn & Apolo are finale material, while the 3rd spot has become a bit of a wild card for me.  I could see Gilles, Melissa, or even Kelly swooping in to challenge the two Olympians in the finale, at this point.  I’m not so sold on Sabrina anymore, as she quite obviously wasn’t getting the votes and seems to be getting hindered by Louis’ choreography; and I am beginning to think Emmitt isn’t really in it to win it…maybe it was the donkey that made me question if he was champion material.  :-P As for Kirstie & Bristol – who the hell knows.  I’m inclined to think Kirstie is annihilating Bristol when it comes to votes, but stranger things have happened.  Heidi, care to weigh in?

Heidi: Are we using the same odds makers every week? Or do they all come up with the same odds every week?? I just ask, because that seems like it could account for minor differences in the odds from week to week.  Either way, I have to agree with Courtney in that they have it just about right this time.  I think odds are favorable that Apolo and Shawn are there at the finale. The third spot, however…I DON’T think it’s going to be either Bristol or Kirstie. Believe it or not, I still have a bit of faith that if both are still there in 3 weeks the judges will put the hammer down.  I just can’t believe they would seriously want the two of them to make a mockery of an “All Star” season, Bristol in particular.  I know that ratings rule…but I honestly believe that even including Bristol in an all star cast was a mistake that may come back to haunt them.  It’s just not credible. So, at what point does the credibility/integrity (if it ever existed) of the show out weigh the obsessive desire for ratings? I’m hoping week 6 or 7. :-)  The quest for controversy driven ratings is a double edged sword – at some point you make a mockery.

Heidi Still: Now that I’ve mentioned that word that’s been driving me crazy in the comments lately, DO NOT start talking about how the ratings are down because of Bristol and how adversely DWTS is being impacted. That’s no more true than the ratings going UP due to her in her original season.  ALL OF TELEVISION is down. All of it. When you hear about DWTS taking a 20% dip in the ratings, it’s not catastrophic – all shows have dipped by 20 to 30%  from last season except for (apparently)  the Voice and football, both of which are holding steady.  DWTS is still beating the Voice in total viewers and The Voice is still beating DWTS in the key demo. Nothing has changed there.  What you hear on entertainment news shows is talking heads who aren’t smart enough to make distinctions. :-)

Court: WORD. :-D “The ratings are sooooo low!!!” is a DWTS urban legend that I’m growing very tired of debunking, along with the myth of VFTW being solely responsible for Bristol sticking around (they wish), and whether “in jeopardy” and “in the bottom 2″ mean the same thing (NO).  But anyway…here’s a screen cap to cleanse your palate.  Happy Thursday, fwiends :-P

DWTS All Stars – The Make Up Team Releases Week 3 Photos

I always find these interesting, although I rarely comment on them. This week I clicked the link to their facebook and saw an interesting series of pictures. I will narrate for you…

“Someone’s missing…Hey, Derek, get your little butt over into this picture!!” Derek: “I’m busy man, leave me alone.”

Gilles: “Come sit by me, Derek”

Apolo: “Raahahaha I danced GOOD.”

Various crew members successfully wrestle Derek in to position… “DEREK, PUT DOWN THE PHONE.”

Crew member takes his phone. Derek: “You can’t keep me here…this sucks.”

After having avoided the Make Up Teams camera for 2.5 weeks, Derek is finally captured on film. And he ain’t happy about it.

The End ;-)

DWTS Season 15 – Week 3 Post Elimination Media

Heh. You guys are used to getting all the media from nice, sweet, kind Vogue. Now you’re stuck with ME. And Courtney. I saw Courtney being all nice in her Voguecation post. Don’t expect the same from me. :::evil grin:::

Of course, you know when I go to OTRC, I’m going to watch Gilles and Louis to see how big an idiot they’re acting. :-) But when I started watching Gilles, I got distracted by what Derek is doing to Anna in the background.  And she’s like…petting him or something. Dancers. Very touchy feely. Click the link to watch all of the couples.

Does Louis know at this point that he and Sabrina were bottom three? :-) Remember, the ballroom is VERY loud so they can’t hear all that well. Louis makes it quite clear he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He’s assuming Kirsti was a bottom two when she wasn’t. Sorry Louis, you were third from the bottom. Anyway, again with the “redemption” arch and how Helio was the champion Sabrina’s season. Give it a rest already. Sabrina and Helio were TIED – which means Sabrina only needed ONE vote to beat him. Not thousands….ONE.

Entertainment Tonight with Maks, Kirstie and Paula – Kirstie and Paula get after Maks a bit. :-) Then it’s Maks/Kirstie…and well, I couldn’t watch it all. I don’t have that kind of time. :-)

SPOILERS!!! DWTS All Stars Week 3 – Who Got the Boot??

Big night tonight….lots of stuff happened. Dances revealed for next week, and two people went home. Who was it??

First, Drew Lachey went home…the Helio went home.  And guess who was in the bottom three with them! Sabrina and Louis. Calm that ego down, kids. :-)

How did the Pure Crew do??

Heidi: Picked Drew and Helio for elimination.

Courtney: Drew and Helio

Vogue:  Bristol and Drew.

Vogue? What’s going on, girl – your track record was stellar last season?? :-)
