PureDWTS Season 29, Week 1 – Power Rankings

As I find myself saying more and more often in this god forsaken year – this episode of Black Mirror sucks 😛

Granted, my bar for this season of DWTS was set lower than ever; I was expecting a certain degree of shenanigans that inevitably comes with COVID-19 precautions. The lack of audience meant the couples seemed to just get swallowed up by the stage (and lighting), and the walls constructed on both sides of the dance floor to obscure the lack of audience seemed to evoke a sort of post-apocalyptic robot obelisk. Then there was the dystopian (and highly unnerving, at times) pre-recorded applause, booing, and cheering noises that were piped in, often at the wrong time (and wayyyy too loud). The intro of the celebs at the beginning of the show seemed to be some sort of bastardized version of the “choose your player” screen at the beginning of video games, with each character pulsing awkwardly in some sort of characteristic movement – or a preview of the 2020 version of The Sims, who knows. While I enjoyed the intro of the pros walking to the stage one by one and striking a pose, they all seemed to look a bit sad – I like to think it was because they missed Tom. I certainly did.

I just can’t with Tyra, guys. I know it was her first night, but sis was just trying wayyyy too hard, and it came across disingenuous and awkward at times; I just found myself going “We let go of the ease and aplomb of Tom and Erin FOR THIS???” And this is DWTS, not the Met Gala – so the ginormous “look at meeeeeee!” ballgown made me roll my eyes, as did the costume change. I can’t recall Tom or Erin ever changing costumes during the show, or wearing anything that was so over-the-top as to shift focus from the contestants. Nor did they feel the need to stunt in a Ferrari… Read more..

Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.

Rumor or Reality, Part Deux!! Carole Baskin and More for DWTS Season 29

Is it surprising that I don’t know who these people are beyond vague name recognition for a season that is supposed to be “next level”. Color me NOT surprised. Oh, but I do know who AJ and Dr. Fauci are. And Anne Heche. OF COURSE Fauci said no. Duh. Only DWTS producers would ask at a time like this. From E! Online:

Dancing With the Stars may be making a lot of changes for season 29, but apparently none of those changes involve making the cast list less chaotic.

Sources tell E! News exclusively that Carole Baskin, Chrishell Stause, Anne Heche, and AJ McLean are all in talks to compete for the mirrorball trophy this season, and are close to being confirmed. Sources also say that Dr. Anthony Fauci, coronavirus expert, was asked, but declined to participate, which is really a shame. Just imagine Carole Baskin and Dr. Fauci standing on that stage together, awaiting the results of America’s vote.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Rumor or Reality?? AJ McLean Joining Dancing with the Stars, Season 29

ET is reporting that AJ is going DWTS Season 29. They’re one of the better outlets, so I’m inclined to believe it. So, which lucky pro is dancing with AJ??

Sources confirm to ET that the Backstreet Boys singer is set to appear on season 29 of Dancing With the Stars, which premieres Monday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

McLean, 42, seemingly teased his “big news” via Instagram on Monday, showing fans all the hard work he’s been putting into his diet and fitness regime over the last five months.

“I’m on a very strict diet, grain-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, no sodas of any kind, and completely sober for almost nine months,” he revealed. “This amazing, but rigorous, workout is all due to my amazing trainer, Mr. Bobby Strong. He’s been a huge asset in my transformation, trying to get myself prepared and ready for what’s to come in the next few weeks.”

Sharna Burgess and Cheryl Burke Chat On The Future Of Dancing With The Stars

Sharna Burgess and Cheryl Burke talked with ET about the social distancing during the coronavirus as well as the future of Dancing With The Stars. Like them, let’s hope the return of the show will happen this Fall. I hope for the return of Sharna as well …and she’s open to the idea….

“I have no idea what’s going on to be quite honest, but I think everyone is just living it day by day and we will see what happens,” Burke told ET’s Katie Krause. “I think there is a creative way of doing things. Everyone is really into taking 15-minute classes. I think we have to go with the flow when it comes to changing. This is our world evolving and we must evolve. I know change is hard and I know for me, too, you have to just surrender.”

“I’m hoping [we’ll be back on time]. Right now I keep hearing May and June,” she added, regarding news updates on when the quarantine period is expected to be over. “My birthday is May 3 and that’s fine. My anniversary is May 23 and that’s fine. As long as we can do another season of Dancing With the Stars, I’m willing to give all of that up.”

Burke also offered up some suggestions on what ABC could do in the meantime to keep fans of the dance competition show entertained while quarantined.

“I’d love to see reruns of Dancing With the Stars in the meantime. Just prepping everybody!” she said. “Like, gosh, my first season was 14 years ago, so I think people need a good ol’ recap.”

“You could go through a whole throwback basically,” she added. “You would just play an episode every day up until this is over.”

Burgess shared similar hopes, telling ET, “As far as I know, Dancing is planning on going ahead with their fall season, but these things change week to week right now.”

“I certainly hope that there is a way to figure it out because I think the world needs that kind of fun, carefree, loving show that’s just about seeing people do good and overcoming adversity. And dancing! Which brings everybody joy. So I hope that there’s an opportunity to put that show on,” she continued. “The show must go on! If we can’t do it in the form that it exists in, I am sure that the creative team over there and the wonderful producer team will figure out how to make it work in fitting with all the guidelines. But that’s also what’s so crazy; this is like the new normal for a while.”

Burgess, who was cut from season 28 of the show alongside fellow pro Artem Chigvintsev, also told ET that she would be more than happy to come back.

“I certainly miss it. And now, especially being away, I miss all my friends,” admitted Burgess, who has been living alone in her home country of Australia since January. “I haven’t seen them in so long. I would love to be back but it hasn’t been a conversation. They haven’t asked me yet. I’m sure they’ve got a lot more things to worry about than whether I’m going to be coming back or not.”
