DWTS 9 Week 2 – The Last of the Media

Aaron and Karina have found a rather successful way to knock out the Donny publicity machine. I don’t know whether to be amused or disturbed. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have to say that I agree with those who have been saying there are too many couples such that it’s hard to focus – and it’s just not exciting. I’m getting a tad bored. I mean, no ones even talking about dancing. They’re talking about injuries (Lacey, Debi and Tom’s), supposed romances – Aaron and Chelsie or Aaron and Karina?? Right. Showmance for publicity? Beats me. :::yawn:::

Anyway, first up is EXTRA on Debi’s and Tom’s injuries, and Carrie Ann Innaba’s predictions for the season.

I totally agree with Samantha’s face when asked about Jon Gosslin on DWTS. Are you KIDDING ME??? Is this what we’re talking about? Watch this video to see Derek’s reaction to a Jon Gosslin question – hilarious. His response is as it should be. The video below is from the Insider – Sam Cam makes an appearance. Melissa – glorifying bad behavior?? Do you know how many of your costars have arrest records?? Like, SEVEN. LOL. Like I said in a previous post – stop talking, your foot keeps going into your mouth. ๐Ÿ™‚

Extra again – Kelly Osbourne was pretty upset after her last dance. Steve O as special correspondent.

Mark Dacascos and his wife talk to EXTRA:

Selena Gomez on DWTS, and Kathy gets the boot. Chelsie “rejects” Aaron Carter. Shawn Johnson is the Special Correspondent for E! News:

Season 8 Edition of THE GOOD, THE BAD, & THE INCREDIBLY HOT!

It’s time for another edition of THE GOOD, THE BAD, and THE INCREDIBLY HOT!ย  All of your comments are SOOOOO helpful when I’m putting together this post and I’m kicking myself right now for not remember the hottest paso thus far!

ย

THE GOOD
Season 8: Ty Murray; Waltz
I am well aware that Ty was never an amazing dancer but he had so much heart!ย  From all 8 seasons…he has the biggest heart and desire to do well ๐Ÿ™‚ย  This was my favorite dance of his

THE BAD
Season 8: Steve-O; Foxtrot
Sticking with the Season 8 trend, I’ve chosen Steve-O’s fox trot for a number of reasons.ย  First of all, clearly he was always one (or two) steps behind Lacey which was clearly noticeable at all times.ย  Also, we know that he was hurt from the week before and we could see it on his face which is unfortunate because he has so much heart!ย  I loved all of his comments about being able to do this without getting high!ย  I think Lacey was a great partner for him but he just didn’t have the technique to go along with the heart ๐Ÿ™

THE INCREDIBLY HOT!
Season 8: Paso Doble
I love the three ladies and Derek in this dance!ย  They are so precise and on point all of the time!ย  Derek is, hands down, the hottest dancer and Julianne, Chelsie, and Lacey have got to be three of the sexiest pros on the show!ย

DWTS Costumes…Sparkle and Shine!

Hey Everyone! I’m a new blogger for DWTS so I thought I’d let you guys know what to expect from my blogs ๐Ÿ™‚ I will be blogging about the costumes featured on this season and the choreography/technique of the dances and how well (or not so well) each couple performed them! Now that we have that out of the way let me get started!

I absolutely love the costumes that the celebs and pros wear on DWTS and I first wondered how all the costumes got sewn and fitted in time! I googled Randall Christensen, the head wardrobe designer, and found that he only has 3 1/2 days to get costumes made! This has got to be a crazy time during the first weeks of competition since there are so many couples! I also found this AMAZING youtube video interviewing Mr. Christensen about the process:

To me, what makes are great costume is a combination of:

  • Is the material used appropriate for the dance style?
  • Is the costume suited for the celeb and pro as a couple?
  • Does the style of the costume match the style of the dance?
  • Are the sparkle and shine elements right on for the costume or not quite there?
  • Are the accessories perfect for the costume or are they to much or to little?
  • Overall, does the costume compliment the celebrity to showcase their dance strengths instead of their dance weaknesses.

With that said…here are my top 5 favorite costumes and my top 5 train wrecks!

TOP 5 FAVORITES (Season 4 – Present):

  1. Chelsie Hightower and Ty Murray: Season 8
    Chelsie Hightower and Ty Murray

DWTS in Iowa – Pictures and Video

I found some video and pictures (and a review, and a blog) about the show last night in Iowa.ย  It sounds like it was a lot of fun – very jealous of the attendees. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Pictures courtesy ofย  Star 102.5!ย  I pasted a few of them below (gallery – click on the pic and then click again for full size):

Kurt from Star 102.5 also contributed a blog. Read the whole thing, but my favorite part is:

Then we saw Shawn, Mark, and Derek Hough. Then, Lacey Schwimmer walks into our area wearing some workout pants and her sports bra. Very nice! Apparently, dancing creates fantasic abs. Jennifer caught me looking, but I think I get a pass considering Derek and Mark apparently refuse to wear shirts backstage.

I’ve only found one set of videos for this show thus far, thanks to Blazing1010. I’ve copied a couple of them, below, but there are a total of 13 on his/her YouTube channel.

I also posted a video of Derek and Chelsie, and a video of Derek, Mark and Lacey doing a hip hop number on Pure Derek Hough.

DWTS in Iowa – Post Show Article

The Des Moines Register has a nice write up about the “Shawn Johnson and Friends” show tonight in Iowa. Here’s a short excerpt:

Johnson, who was greeted by a standing ovation, spoke to the crowd before the one-time only event began. โ€œItโ€™s great to be here,โ€ she said.

Johnson shared the spotlight with dozens of her friends, including her โ€œDancing with the Starsโ€ partner Mark Ballas. The evening started off with a tribute to the late Michael Jackson, with a moonwalk dance set to โ€œBillie Jean,โ€ followed by Johnson and Ballas performing the Cha Cha Cha to โ€œP.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing).โ€

Season-eight competitor and actor Gilles Marini heated up the stage when he danced the salsa with his partner on the show, Cheryl Burke. Stuntman and funny guy Steve-O, along with dancer Lacey Schwimmer, performed the fox trot to Jason Mrazโ€™s โ€œIโ€™m Yours.โ€

DWTS Iowa Style – the Gilles and Steve-O Edition

Hee. One thing I really enjoyed about this past season was how well the entire cast seemed to get along. Most of the Stars showed up at the Ballas Hough Band shows every tuesday, they all took part in the video Derek did…the list goes on. Then there’s cute pictures like this one from Gilles, which he tweeted from Iowa where he’s taking part in “Shawn Johnson and Friends“:

Steve-O and Gilles Marini

Dancing with the Stars, Iowa Style!

Shawn Johnson is hosting a DWTS-themedย event in Des Moine, Iowa as a big thank-you to her hometown fans.ย  This event is entitled “Shawn Johnson and Friends” and takes place tonight (July 26) at the Wells Fargo Arena.

While groups of previous “Dancing” contestants have conducted nationwide tours in recent years, this is a one-shot event. The Ballas Hough Band and Mitchel Musso (from the Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana”) are on the bill, as well as dancers such as Gilles Marini, Cheryl Burke, Steve-O and Kristi Yamaguchi โ€” the latter, like Johnson, a former Olympian turned “Dancing” champion.

I wrote more extensively about this event at Pure Derek Hough, mainly because Derek was talking about it and tweeting funny pictures of himself, Shawn, Mark, Corky, and Steve-O. If you check that site, you will find what I think is a full list of the participants and a few more links to more information about the event. A check of Mark, Gilles and Lacey’s Twitter accounts also show mentions of the event and a lot about practicing. I’m really, really hoping we’ll get video of the dancing and the singing – so check back here tomorrow. Cross your fingers!!

DWTS Season 8 Celebrity Roundup – July 16, 2009

Shawn Johnson has a few things going on – narrowing down college choices, for one. No surprise, she chooses California schools. I sure don’t blame her.ย  UCLA or Stanford, Shawn?ย  I think Stanford may be the way to go, but that’s just me.ย  Apparently, she can’t compete, but she’d like to coach.

shawnjohnson-college

According to the Des Moine Register, Shawn also has a big show in Iowa on July 26 – I’ve read elsewhere that this is a kind of thank you to her fans for voting her champion of DWTS Season 8. It’s not mentioned in this particular article, and I’m too lazy right now to find a link. ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Anyway, Gilles, Cheryl, Kristi Yamaguchi, Steve-O, Mark and Derek are just a few of the names being bandied about as participants.ย  I’m assuming, based on those names and the inclusion of the Ballas Hough Band, that Mark will dance with Shawn and Kristi, and that Lacey will also be there to dance with Steve-O.ย  Gilles and Cheryl will, of course (IMO) partner up again.ย  But who will Derek dance with? Or is he just singing? I can tell you one thing, if I find out that he dances with Cheryl and/or Lacey I will be SERIOUSLY regretting sitting at home instead of driving myself to Des Moine.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Speaking of Gilles, I haven’t really been keeping close watch on him, but he’s apparently getting ready to announce something rather big (minds out of the gutter, ladies).ย  What is he talking about? I’m assuming it’s a lead role in either TV or Movies.

Gilles Tweet

In any case, I can’t wait to find out what he’s talking about. While I may not follow him closely, I think he was a great dancer, gorgeous and he sure seems like a hell of a nice guy. I do know that he was on vacation recently with his family – I read something about Monte Carlo and the beach, etc. I also know that I previously reported on him being present at the opening of one of Cheryl’s new dance studios.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Melissa Rycroft is engaged to be married to her boyfriend (ahem – fiance) Ty.ย  Apparently, she is the anti-bridezilla – and I believe it.ย  She seems like the girl next door, laid back type.

melissa-rycroft

Also, about a month ago now, it was reported that Melissa joined Good Morning America as a special correspondent.ย  Apparently, she’ll do 8 to 10 stories over the course of the summer. She’s done aย story or two since then – I have not seen them, but I’ve heard comment that she’s a natural. Good for her – I was never a Melissa fan on DWTS, but I loved her on the Bachelor and I wish her all the success in the world.

That’s all for now – I’ll come back in a day or two with more news from the Stars of DWTS Season 8.

DWTS Finale – What the Media has to Say

E! News on the Winner of DWTS and the Finale as a whole:

Marc Malkin, from E! Online, is none to pleased that his favorite didn’t win:

From ET Online:

On Tuesday night’s thrilling “Dancing with the Stars” finale Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas walked away with the coveted mirror ball trophy — and ET was backstage to celebrate with the season eight champions!

“It feels amazing,” Shawn Johnson says about the victory. “I don’t know how we did it. I guess we like to save things for the last second. We worked really hard, I feel like I’ve grown so much. I can officially say I am a dancer and that is amazing to me, I never imagined that.”

“To be on the stage especially next to Gilles [Marini] and Cheryl [Burke] and Melissa [Rycroft] and Tony [Dovolani] was amazing,” Mark says. “I’m just so honored to have had Shawn as a partner and to take her this far. Thank you to the fans for voting for us. Thank you.”
