PureDWTS Exclusive: Henry Byalikov Talks Of Dancing, Choreographing, And His Movie Role In The Great Gatsby

We have an exclusive new interview to share with you with dance pro and Troupe Member Henry Byalikov!! He took time out of his extremely busy schedule currently to answer a few questions about Dancing With The Stars. Also, and in case you know, this is a very special time in Henry’s career as he’s also featured in the new movie “The Great Gatsby” which is now out in movie theatres everywhere. So we also asked Henry some questions on his role and part in the movie. He takes us right there up close and personal. Check it out…

Hi Henry! How are you and how is Dancing With The Stars going for you this season? As always, our staff and fans are enjoying you immensely on the show. Speaking of, you choreographed an opening group number for Week 5′s Results show that was indeed spectacular!

Hi there! I’m great and have to say this is one of the most exciting season’s of my Dancing With The Stars experience. Loved being able to choreograph this season! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did :)

Wow, and your help with Derek and Kellie and their Great Gatsby dance in Week 5 was off the hook. What was the creative process like and working with Derek again?

It certainly was a pleasure working with Kellie, Derek and Anna this season. The creative process was somewhat more separate as compared to season 14’s Bollywood Samba. In this instance, I was able to choreograph the foxtrot that Anna and I performed. Once that was complete, it was a matter of marrying the two routines (Derek and Kellie’s and Anna and mine), so that we could make a real performance piece of it. I think that’s where the collaboration started, as Derek, Anna, Kellie and I, all wanted it to be more of a scene performed together rather than a strict side by side comparison. I think it worked out to be more entertaining that way.

DWTSWeek5

This was also the first time, on Dancing With The Stars, that I have performed a traditional ballroom number and I had a blast! Incorporating a Gatsby theme was almost part and parcel of this collaboration, as I had already been part of “The Great Gatsby”. Performing with Anna, Derek and Kellie was a wonderful experience!

What is the greatest memory you will take with you from working on The Great Gatsby?

My favourite moment would have to be being on set and seeing how flawlessly Baz directed this huge production and how wonderfully the lead actors and actresses portrayed their characters live. Seeing it come to life before my very eyes was an incredibly special moment and one I will take with me forever.

Back to Dancing With The Stars: Will you be a pro in the future if asked or do you enjoy more flexibility as a troupe member?

A Pro is what I have been in the past, and what I look forward to in the future.

Thanks so much, Henry!!! From all of us at PureDWTS, good luck with wrapping the season up on Dancing With The Stars and may The Great Gatsby be a huge success!!!

To dance fans, be sure you see The Great Gatsby as the dancing in it will be nothing short of phenomenal and you’ll get to see Henry too. Let us know if you see it and what you think.

DWTS15 Troupe Update: Dancing In India and Australia, Black Tie Affairs, And More

So, it’s official. Dancing pros Henry Byalikov, Sasha Farber, Sharna Burgess and Emma Slater will all be returning for the new All Star Season of Dancing With The Stars according to their twitter and Facebook accounts. Oksana Dmytrenko hasn’t confirmed, but, I think she’s returning as well being nothing has been said otherwise (let us know if you know more?). Sadly, Kiki Nyemchek will not be returning. It’s going to be interesting to see who fills his spot. Any ideas or wishes? I’d like to suggest Jonathan Platero! More on that in a sec.

In other updates on the Troupe currently. Henry just got back from Australia. He helped with the new season of “Dance Academy ABC” due to air in the middle of 2013. Things are really starting to happen for this fan loving Troupe member. It’s going to be a big year for him. Don’t forget how he helped and is starring in one of the most anticipated movies of 2012 to be released soon “The Great Gatsby”.

Oksana has had a busy summer doing several black tie events. Below she danced a rumba with “So You Think You Can Dance” pro Jonathan Platero to Beyonce’s Sweet Dreams at a recent event. Incredible. Can you see why I think he might be a good replacement for Kiki?

You can also watch Oksana dance at a recent showing with Derek Hough at Pure Derek Hough. They are way steamy and so powerful.

And then there is Sasha Farber and girlfriend, Emma Slater. These past weeks, the two have been lighting up India in their version of Dancing With The Stars. According to Sasha, the episode with them airs this weekend. Check out this cool coverage of them. It’s fun to see Dancing With The Stars catching on in so many countries and how it’s different for the way they compete too.

And, last but, not least, we can’t forget about Sharna Burgess. You can see all of our recent updates with her here. She recaps her summer with us at this link. What a star as recently she also helped kids on skid row have a fun day and get them ready to go back to school. Stay tuned! According to twitter, Sharna will be filming her first commercial. I’ll be curious to see what this is all about.

Booked my first commercial! Yay thank you @ xxx

Dancing With The Stars Henry Byalikov Discusses Career, What Motivates Him, And More

Who could use a Henry Byalikov fill today like I could? The Dancing With The Stars Troupe member gave @TeamMariaDerek at twitter an exclusive interview. Henry discusses his dancing career, how he was chosen to be on the Troupe, and what motivates him (I loved his answer!). Did you know he strained his ankle while dancing last season? Despite this injury and others in the past, he’s always persisted. Below is a take of how he was picked by Derek to be in the Trio Dance last season. Be sure to read more of this fascinating interview here and thanks to @TeamMariaDerek for sending.

We know you already said Derek Hough would have been the pro you would want to work with. The Bollywood Samba was incredible. Tell us about that experience.

It was 9pm, Tuesday 1st of May and I received a call from one of the senior producers informing me I was selected by Derek and Maria, to be in the Trios section with them, for the next week’s show. I was excited because, as you already know, he was one of the pro’s that I’ve wanted to work with and it was a great compliment for me to know that with such a short time on the show that I had had a positive impression both on the fans and with Derek and Maria.

I had no idea how the rehearsals were going to be organised, all I knew is that I wanted to support Derek and Maria as much as possible and see them through to the next week.

Derek asked to meet him a few hours before Maria arrived for our first rehearsal to work on some choreographic ideas and groups. We started work in the studio, went through some groups and then Derek turned to me and said that he wanted to come up with a theme for the dance. He played the music and immediately I was like “This sounds Bollywood even a little bit rockabilly, why don’t we do a Bollywood Samba?” He looked at me and said “Bollywood? Yeah!”. Maria arrived, we explained the idea and she loved it!

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we managed to get through most of the routine but it wasn’t ready and we needed more time. Saturday was off as Derek and Maria had to go to Las Vegas and I was forced to stay back in Los Angeles.

Owning to their professionalism when we had camera blocking on the Sunday the routine felt great and we were excited to showcase it on Monday.

I so want this guy as a teaching Pro in the future!!! Come on TPTB! Make it happen! Picture above is of Henry and his partner Tony Pearon when they were on the Australian version of Dancing With The Stars n 2008. Picture courtesy of Zimbio Pictures.

Henry Byalikov: From Burn The Floor, King Kong, The Great Gatsby, To Dancing With The Stars

What a budding dancing career this cool talent has and if judging fans reaction is any indication for how he helped Derek Hough and Maria Menounos in their Bollywood Trio dance, I’m going to be surprised if troupe member Henry Byalikov isn’t a teaching Pro on Dancing With The Stars very soon and a popular and much loved one at that! Would you agree?

Also, and if you haven’t heard, Henry has a dancing role in one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2012, “The Great Gatsby“. Henry also was rehearsal partner to Carey Mulligan. Below is more from Henry’s Official site for how this role came to be….

Henry was hand-picked by Australia’s leading contemporary ballet choreographer Mr Graeme Murphy to perform as a principal dancer in his brand new Contemporary ballet company ‘Graeme Murphy’s Suite Synergy 2011. Henry’s impact in the production was immediately well received with such reviewer statements exclaiming me as a “Fiery Flamenco Star”, and distinguishing him from the rest owing to Henry’s extraordinary ability, “Henry’s Byalikov, whose powerful intensity of focus and dramatic use of footwork, upper torso and arms unfortunately showed up the inadequacies of the accompanying quartet of dancers in this style”.

After performing to thousands he then helped the choreographer, as a dancer, to create a routine for the lead roles in the workshop for the brand new musical King Kong. He was then engaged as an ensemble member in the musical workshop.

Following the success he had in the musical Workshop, the choreographer Mr John O’Connell chose Henry to feature in Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’. Henry was also a rehearsal partner to Carey Mulligan.

You can read more about Henry’s career here. Currently, “The Great Gatsby” has a December 25th release date. Below you can view the stunning trailer which features some of the cast dancing in several shots.

I’ll definitely be hitting the theatre to see this, will you? And wouldn’t it be cool if the producers of Dancing With The Stars featured Henry and the ballroom dancing in this movie on one of the results show to help promote it? A Dancing With The Stars fan can dream right? :)
