Wow, what a week it’s been….and a magical one at that! I was so blessed to see “Dancing Pro Live” in Cheyenne, Wyoming and then in Denver, Colorado. I am so glad I saw both shows because each had different dances and mixed things up. That’s why I think it always pays to go more than once to a dance show if you can because you never know what’s going to happen and such is true for Dancing Pros Live.

I was struck immediately with the fabulous “state of the art” light show. It set the tone for the whole show for what was to come…..a show of professionalism, high entertainment, royalty, and class. Also, with the additional times of the stage smoking and steaming combined with the lights, it made one feel as if time had stood still. It made you feel as if you were in a dream.

I can’t rave enough about all the dancers and cast. They were carefully selected with a fun mix of personalities. For instance:

-Edyta Sliwinska and Alec Mazo couldn’t have been more elegant, flawless, powerful, gorgeous, sexy, classy, and romantic as everything they are known for. Edyta is a Princess and she is as limber as the day when she was on Dancing With The Stars. They took my breath away and left me spellbound like always. True Dancing With The Stars Legends!

-Benji Schwimmer and Torri Smith’s choreography couldn’t have been more entertaining, dynamic, clever, show stopping, and fun for all of their numbers. Benji beats to a different drummer. He’s phenomenal. So much so, I would love to see him be a Pro on Dancing With The Stars now.

-Chelsie Hightower and Dmitry Demidov had wistful, beautiful and athletic routines. Their extension and lines were so beautiful. Every time Chelsie came on stage, she would light it up just like on Dancing With The Stars. She was like a “ray of light”. …Read more

I'm a fashion and music fan....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. DWTS14: A Refresher on the Importance of Running Order

Since there still seems to be some confusion on what running order positions are “good” or “bad” (even though I feel like Heidi & I have repeated ourselves ad infinitum), I thought now might be a good time to give everyone a crash course in the “Courtney & Heidi Theory of Running Order” :-) I did more of an experimental post about running order back in 2010, but since then Heidi & I have honed our theory a bit more and it’s time for an update!

For those of you just wanting the Cliff’s Notes version, here’s the basic gist: the beginning, middle, and end of the show are the best positions, and it’s better to dance in the 2nd half of the show than the first.  And why is that, you ask? The answer: ratings. If you’re still interested, read on…

So what makes going 1st an advantage? In theory, you’ve got the attention of all the folks that tuned in at 8 PM, before they lose interest and change the channel.  The 8 PM-9PM time slot is quite possibly the most competitive weeknight time slot – most networks try to put their big-hitters with broad-spectrum appeal in this slot, as it’s the hour that families are most likely to be watching TV together, before the kids (and sometime grandma & grandpa) go to bed.  It therefore stands to reason that TPTB would want to put a popular, attention-grabbing couple at the top of the first hour to try and hold viewers’ interest and keep them from changing the channel – say, to How I Met Your Mother on CBS or The Voice on NBC.  How does it benefit the couple? Obviously they get some good exposure, but it also tends to benefit them in the voting.  While we diehard viewers may start voting for a couple at the beginning of the show that may not actually be dancing until the end of the show, the average viewer may not start voting until they see a couple that really impresses them – my mom tends to vote this way.  She’ll see a couple that she really likes, and even though the show might not be over yet, she’ll use all her votes on that particular couple (sometimes she’ll regret it later when she sees a couple she likes even more, but that’s neither here nor there ;-)).  Going first can help a couple snare some impulse votes, before a viewer sees anyone else and change their mind.  It also tends to keep them memorable, since they’re the first couple the viewers see.

Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble. Check out some of my other work at!

DWTS Season 14 – Oh Come On, That’s Not Gonna Happen! Chapter 3

In case you missed chapter 1 and chapter 2,  this is a series where I talk about what I see on Twitter that makes me roll my eyes in exasperation or laugh…or just groan in disbelief. :-)

Once again, we have a series of people who don’t seem to read and comprehend the written word all that well…or perhaps they just read too fast. Whatever the case may be, they are a tad annoying.  Why, you ask?  Well, Huffington Post (awesome site, btw) publishing a post that they very clearly call their “wish list” is NOT a listing of people who are going to be on the show, OR a listing of people actually rumored to be on the show. Please look up the words “wish” and “list”. Thank you. :-)

And really, how many times do Tebow and his reps need to say he’s NOT doing the show before people chill on that rumor? Getting sick of his name in my tweetdeck.

What else is annoying me?? What’s “not gonna happen”??  Spamming everyone and their freakin brother with “tell them we want Marina Sirtis on DWTS” is NOT going to actually get her on the show. What it will do is piss me, and everyone else who does twitter searches, off…in the extreme. Especially when your Twitter icon is annoying as some are.  Really, just stop. I already don’t like this person or her fans and I don’t even know who she is…oh, and by the way – she will NOT have an impact on ratings one way or the other.  Every year a fan group makes this claim….and it’s usually the fans of someone I’ve never even heard of before. Go figure.

Who wants to explain to Xtina’s manager that “The Voice” did not beat DWTS in ratings on Monday night??  Do I have to say anymore?? He’s probably comparing The Voice’s numbers to those of DWTS last season…still wrong. Unless they’re both on at the same time, you have no business comparing the numbers. When they were on at the same time, DWTS was beating The Voice easily.  BTW, hell of a lead in, that Super Bowl.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the Voice. It’s far superior to anything I saw of the X-Factor (admittedly, I got bored early on that one) and it’s different enough from AI that I enjoyed it on Sunday night. But I don’t like misleading tweets like his – it’s what starts turning all the “wish lists” into serious rumors. Very misleading.

Oy Veh – sudden increase in the need to campaign for pros happened just yesterday. Namely Chelsie and Dmitry. People – your campaigning won’t be any more effective than that done by the fans of Marina Sirtis. For one thing, they appear to outnumber you (even though it’s more repetition by a few tweeters than it is a massive number of people tweeting about it, if you follow me) and for another…if they don’t find them a match, they don’t find them a match. Usually, it’s that simple.  I think Tristan’s appearance is a bit detrimental to Dmitry, even though I think he’s an inch or two taller than Tristan is, because Tristan appears to have wide appeal. Chelsie I’m not worried about. I think she’ll be back.  But seriously – the show is watched by about 20 million people.  Five or five hundred tweets ain’t gonna sway them.

Okay, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, it’s back to pro watch. :-)

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)
