Flashback Friday: Dancing With The Stars Season 2

We’re back with more Flashback Friday!!  YAY!  I really enjoy looking back at the show, and would love to hear some of the things you remember from each season! Also, I am only posting one video per couple, and I’m trying to get as much variety of dances as I can.

All three of our judges were back for Season 2. Also back was Tom Bergeron. It’s not DWTS without Tom. 🙂 Harold Wheeler and his Orchestra also returned, along with Pro dancers Louis Van Amstel, Ashly DelGrosso, Edyta Sliwinska and Jonathan Roberts.

Lisa Canning, Tom’s co-host for season 1 was replaced by Samantha Harris. Pro dancers Charlotte Jorgensen and Alec Mazo did not return for season 2. New pro dancers for season 2 were Andrea Hale, Nick Kosovich, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani, Cheryl Burke, and Anna Trebunskaya. Other changes was increasing the number of couples from 6 to 10, lengthening the show from 60 minutes to 90 minutes, and adding the Results Show.

KENNY MAYNE AND ANDREA HALE were the first couple eliminated, on January 6, 2006. They danced a cha cha, and here it is!

TATUM O’NEIL AND NICK KOSOVICH were the second couple eliminated, on January 13, 2006. They danced a waltz and a rumba. Here’s their waltz. Read more..

Dancing With The Stars Mark Ballas Lighting Up Las Vegas (Dancing Video, New Interview)

As you know from a previous posting with new interviews, etc., Dancing With The Stars pro Mark Ballas has been performing at the Dancing With The Stars Live in Las Vegas show this week. Well, the Morning Blend has interviewed him as well where Mark talks about the 6 numbers he’s in, his pets (did you know he has two dogs and three turtles?), his favorite partners on Dancing With The Stars, his parents and how he got into music and ballroom dancing, and more. You can listen to the fun interview in full here. Thanks to CMHagey You Tube, here’s some great footage of Mark dancing in the show as well. I love this song!

Mark Ballas Plays At The Viper Room, New Interview About DWTS Live In Las Vegas (Photos, Video)

Pictured above is Dancing With The Stars pro dancer Mark Ballas. Sunday night, he looked lean and mean playing his guitar at the Viper Room in Los Angeles. Seeing this picture and others like it at Getty Images makes me want to see him perform on Dancing With The Stars in a string duo with Val Chmerkovskiy again. How about you? Be sure to see all of the pics. They are some of the best music performing pics I’ve ever seen of Mark in action! He really gets into it!

Also, Fox 5 in Las Vegas interviewed Mark on Dancing With The Stars Live In Vegas. Last night, he danced for the first time in the show. He’ll be dancing until July 12th if you’d like to take it in. He will also be performing his music in the Tropicana Lounge on Thursday night. Details below.

FOX5 Vegas – KVVU

Thanks to MarkBallas Facebook and MarkBallas.com for the heads up on the video above!

ADDING: KTNV in Las Vegas interviewed Mark as well as Sabrina Bryan. Yes, the two are reunited again. Watching this interview makes one wonder on if she will be back for the All Star season which is briefly mentioned? You can see the new interview HERE.

EW’s Video Interview With DWTS Tristan MacManus, Lacey Schwimmer, Joey Fatone, and Carson Kressley

As promised, Annie Barrett of Entertainment Weekly posted the videos of her backstage interview with Tristan MacManus, Lacey Schwimmer, Joey Fatone, and Carson Kressley before she saw Dancing With The Stars Live In Las Vegas. Carson shows off all of his costumes including his “Vogue” and “Moves Like Jagger” costumes. Tristan and Lacey talk on their injuries and the show’s ‘different vibe’ from the TV version. They say Tom Bergeron is jealous of Carson’s part and he is a “Silver Fox”. Joey Fatone talks of why he returned to dancing and how he loves his two dances. You can see more of this fun interview in four parts HERE.

Entertainment Weekly Gives Dancing With The Stars LIVE In Las Vegas Rave Reviews

What a great in-depth three page review for Dancing With The Stars: LIVE In Las Vegas by Annie Barrett of Entertainment Weekly. She gives huge props to Carson Kressley calling him a “marvel” in his hosting duties and how he is “never not funny” much like Tom Bergeron. She calls the show “quite stunning, especially during the many bombastic group numbers” and how the lack of cameras (seen if you are sitting in the audience on the TV version) “frees up the dancers to use the entire stage and actually move.”

The whole thing felt more like a musical — with slow/sensual or fierce/emphatic movements instead of dialogue, or literally (if we want to get all Carrie Ann about it) “beautiful lines” instead of spoken lines.

She also raves about dancing pro Lacey Schwimmer (who got hurt this past week) saying she “commands the stage”…

As I expected, the dancer who embodied that classic for-the-love-of-the-game performance quality the most for me was Our Pro Lacey Schwimmer. Girl knows how to command a stage — even if she had just slunk into a corner, she was all I could see. Also, uh oh: I just read that Lacey hurt her ankle during the week and didn’t dance last night. Noooooo. If she can’t return that’ll be a huge loss for the show. Lacey and her crazy hair extensions (currently pink and purple) are truly the life of the party.

But, Annette’s favorite dance in the LIVE show was, to her surprise, a Rumba with Dmitry Chaplain and Anya Garnis….

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Anya as one of Our Pros at some point — though if there’s any intention of maintaining a DWTS Vegas run throughout the rest of the year instead of just in the summer, whoever’s in charge may want to shackle her (using prop police handcuffs) and Dmitry to a Tropicana slot machine right now. She’s on fire!

YES. Fave dance of the night: Dmitry and Anya’s rumba. It took 14 seasons and a trip to Vegas for me to realize this, but maybe there IS a place for barefoot men in the ballroom. They just have to look/play the guitar/open their shirts like Dmitry. Oh screw that, they just have to be Dmitry. NEW RULE: Only Mr. Chaplin can remove his shoes.

Anya can barely even process his hotness.

You can read lots more of this fun review on the show and the cast at Entertainment Weekly. You can see more pictures as well. Also, be sure to read the part on Tristan MacManus. He joined her, Lacey, Carson, and Joey Fatone for a pre-show backstage chat in Carson’s dressing room. We hope to post that interview as soon as it’s made available.

Las Vegas Magazine Covers Dancing With the Stars: Live in Las Vegas (Photos)

Isn’t this a stunning shot of Lacey Schwimmer, Carlson Kressley, and Joey Fatone on the cover of Las Vegas Magazine? The three as well as the cast of Dancing With The Stars: LIVE In Las Vegas shot a new photo op. Below is a snippet of a wonderful write up they’ve done on the show.

The stage show premiered on April 13 and has been the talk of the town ever since; its stars are new Las Vegas royalty. The format of the stage version contains no judges, but fans of the TV show will be delighted that the 80-minute production is jam-packed with fabulous music and awesome ballroom dance routines. Along with the Las Vegas professional dance troupe are professional dancers and celebrities from past TV seasons, including Joey Fatone, Kyle Massey, Sabrina Bryan, Tia Carrere, Dmitry Chaplin and Lacey Schwimmer, with guest stars stopping by for a few performances, most recently Kym Johnson and Tristan MacManus. Playing host of the show (and shakin’ his booty in a few numbers, too) is season 13 darling Carson Kressley, whose “Vogue” routine will have you cheering in the aisles.

A musical score that includes hits from the Bee Gees, Elvis Presley, Little Richard and Madonna, and popular tunes like “Dream a Little Dream,” “Sing, Sing, Sing” and “Moves Like Jagger,” is the perfect backdrop for the show’s dance routines: foxtrot, waltz, paso doble, cha-cha-cha, rumba and tango.

Chaplin’s chest-baring, tight-jeaned rumba heats up the star-filled sky background, and Carrere’s waltz is breathtaking as she glides around in a stunning blue ball gown. Fatone’s jive certainly jumps and wails, and Schwimmer’s tango is precision mixed with straight-up sexiness. With more than a dozen routines, some side-splitting comedy between numbers (courtesy of Kressley) and on-point dance moves, Dancing With the Stars: Live in Las Vegas is a triumphant hit that continues to dominate entertainment on the Strip.

To read more and see some cool photos from the shoot (Lacey shoes remind me of Lady Gaga and Carson’s snake jacket is too fun.), be sure to visit Las Vegas Magazine. They have information on how to get tickets as well.

Also, for some cool, birds eye reviews of the show and if you haven’t done so yet, read Court and John’s personal reviews here and here. MUST READS!

Tristan MacManus Interviewed About Dancing with the Stars: Live in Las Vegas Show & More

KTNV in Las Vegas has a new interview up with Dancing With The Stars pro Tristan MacMacnus. Tristan chats about the last two seasons on Dancing With The Stars a little. He also discusses joining the ‘Dancing with the Stars: Live in Las Vegas’ show for the remainder of the show’s run this summer. Tristan says the “demand” is there to keep the show running past July 7th (the planned ending date). They ask him if he’s coming back for the new season of Dancing With The Stars in the fall, but, he (and the rest of the cast) won’t know anything definite until a couple of days before the announcement. He said, “Awwww yeah”, he’ll be ready to go is asked. You can watch the interview in full at KTNV.

Picture above of the Dancing With The Stars Live in Las Vegas cast is courtesy of DWTSLiveInLasVegas Facebook. Note how Donny Osmond came to watch the show one night last week.

Isn’t this a fun picture of Cheryl Burke with Lacey Schwimmer, Tia Carrere, Cheryl Burke, and Sabrina Bryan? Cheryl went to the Dancing With The Stars LIVE show last weekend in Las Vegas which you can read all about at Vegas News. Jerry Springer was at the show as well. You can view a fun picture of him at the link too.

Court’s DWTS Las Vegas Adventure (Live Show Review & Other Miscellanery)

As many of you know, I was in Las Vegas last weekend and had the pleasure of seeing the DWTS live show at the Tropicana – which, of course, I will review for you guys, since certain other individuals *cough*JOHN*cough* haven’t managed to write the 2nd half of their review of the premiere of said show 😉 This post could get a bit wordy, as I took quite a few notes (and just have a really good memory, to boot) and I’ll throw in a few other possibly-unrelated-to-DWTS details for context, as well as some general Vegas info, since some of you have asked about my trip – so if you’re only interested in my review of the show, feel free to skip the next few paragraphs.  And if you hate spoilers (i.e. you want to be COMPLETELY surprised when you see the show), I’d either just skip this post altogether or just read my overall take at the bottom – because I’m not holding back.  You’ve been warned 😉 And special thanks go to Heidi, for helpin’ a girl out with some picture merges that were driving me cray-cray 😛

So why was I in Vegas in the first place, you ask? My best friend Kendra is getting married at the end of July, and she wanted a bachelorette party for the ages – so naturally, we HAD to go Vegas 🙂 There were 12 of us altogether (11 rowdy bachelorettes and 1 gay bachelor, who I must say put us all to shame with how fabulously he was dressed the entire trip ;-)), and the majority of us stayed at the Flamingo, since we were able to get a great rate on standard rooms – with 4 girls to a room, it was only $82 total for each of us for 3 nights, which is pretty awesome for a well-known hotel on the strip that isn’t a total dive.  Overall, I wouldn’t say the Flamingo is a particularly special or ritzy hotel (if that’s what you’re looking for, I’d go with the Bellagio, Palazzo, or Venetian…but be prepared to shell out big $$$), but if you’re on a budget, it’s certainly more than sufficient – the rooms are clean and the decor is kitchy & cute (think 1960’s, Rat Pack, original Ocean’s Eleven – lots of dots, stripes, retro furniture, and of course, pink :-)).  I’m very into the nostalgia of Vegas, so the Flamingo appealed to me in that it was originally built by infamous mobster Bugsy Siegel, and legend has it that the actual motive behind his murder was to change the management of the Flamingo.  But anyway – if you’re in Vegas, I definitely recommend trying their Paradise Garden Buffet – it’s pretty affordable, as far as buffets in Vegas go, and is quite good…especially the brunch buffet.  Plus the views of their courtyard and flock of live flamingoes are gorgeous 🙂 Also at the Flamingo? Donny & Marie Osmond’s live show – I didn’t see it (no time, and honestly, not much of a desire), but I did see these in the lobby:

The one on the left is Donny’s costume from his freestyle with Kym in season 9, as well as his MBT (and yes, according to the guest services director that I asked, it is his real MBT – apparently he insisted it be put in the case with his costume); the one on the right is Marie’s dress from her quickstep with Jonathan in season 5 (and one of those freaky dolls she designs – guess they had to put SOMETHING there when they found out that Donny wanted to display his MBT, although I’m not sure why they didn’t display this doll instead).  I found Marie’s costume pretty unremarkable up close – for as fabulous as it looked on the show, upon further scrutiny, it’s really just a tan silk gown with some gems glued on; but Donny’s suit is very well-made and clearly took a lot of work.  Interesting how different the costumes look on tv vs. in person (more on that later). Good Morning America Does A Cover On Dancing with the Stars Live In Las Vegas (Video)

This is so good! If you missed it yesterday morning, Good Morning America had a great segment on the Dancing With The Stars Live show in Las Vegas. They show clips from the show. You can see Lacey Schwimmer, Kyle Massey, Dmitry Chaplin, Carson Kressley, and more dancing. Cameron Mathison also interviews some of the cast and claims he’s “still got it” too. Note: there’s a funny bit with Tia Carrere about her time dancing with (long haired) Maks too. Don’t miss it and more below!

Also, and as most of you know, our John personally attended the opening show. He also attended the pre and after events. If you haven’t read about how he had an encounter with Tom Bergeron and Conrad Green, you can do so here. Stay tuned as John is planning to post more on this event soon for what he experienced.
