PureDWTS Exclusive: Henry Byalikov Talks Of Dancing, Choreographing, And His Movie Role In The Great Gatsby

We have an exclusive new interview to share with you with dance pro and Troupe Member Henry Byalikov!! He took time out of his extremely busy schedule currently to answer a few questions about Dancing With The Stars. Also, and in case you know, this is a very special time in Henry’s career as he’s also featured in the new movie “The Great Gatsby” which is now out in movie theatres everywhere. So we also asked Henry some questions on his role and part in the movie. He takes us right there up close and personal. Check it out…

Hi Henry! How are you and how is Dancing With The Stars going for you this season? As always, our staff and fans are enjoying you immensely on the show. Speaking of, you choreographed an opening group number for Week 5′s Results show that was indeed spectacular!

Hi there! I’m great and have to say this is one of the most exciting season’s of my Dancing With The Stars experience. Loved being able to choreograph this season! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did :)

Wow, and your help with Derek and Kellie and their Great Gatsby dance in Week 5 was off the hook. What was the creative process like and working with Derek again?

It certainly was a pleasure working with Kellie, Derek and Anna this season. The creative process was somewhat more separate as compared to season 14’s Bollywood Samba. In this instance, I was able to choreograph the foxtrot that Anna and I performed. Once that was complete, it was a matter of marrying the two routines (Derek and Kellie’s and Anna and mine), so that we could make a real performance piece of it. I think that’s where the collaboration started, as Derek, Anna, Kellie and I, all wanted it to be more of a scene performed together rather than a strict side by side comparison. I think it worked out to be more entertaining that way.

This was also the first time, on Dancing With The Stars, that I have performed a traditional ballroom number and I had a blast! Incorporating a Gatsby theme was almost part and parcel of this collaboration, as I had already been part of “The Great Gatsby”. Performing with Anna, Derek and Kellie was a wonderful experience!

Speaking of The Great Gatsby, it’s premiere is coming up on May 10th! Many dance fans may not know this yet, but, you have a featured part in this movie as a dancer. Can you tell us a little about it and how you were approached to help? Read more..

I'm a fashion and music nut....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. Derek Hough (one of my favorite dancers) said at a recent Get Healthy event that ‘dancing’ is an outward expression of what is going on inside you. He says that in some ways, everyone dances and it's so true. To TPTB, how about Sam Palladio's "Fade Into You" (this version sung by WilUnleashed) for a V. Waltz?

DWTS Henry Byalikov Explains Role In The Great Gatsby, Working On New Musical Lead, & More

As you might have read in a previous posting, Dancing With The Stars troupe member, Henry Byalikov has a dancing role in one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2012, “The Great Gatsby“. Henry also taught the leads Leonardo Di Caprio, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan how to dance for the movie. Below is a new interview he did for it on The Morning Show. They also go through his whole career so far full of major accomplishments. Check out how he’s been working on the new lead for “Strictly Ballroom: The Musical” as well. FASCINATING! A MUST SEE! And let’s hope he gets the new lead!! He’d be perfect!!

“The Great Gatsby” has a December 25th release date. I plan to see this, do you? I was a big fan of the first movie with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. Below you can view the trailer. Thanks to @Elara38 for the help with this post!!

Henry Byalikov: From Burn The Floor, King Kong, The Great Gatsby, To Dancing With The Stars

What a budding dancing career this cool talent has and if judging fans reaction is any indication for how he helped Derek Hough and Maria Menounos in their Bollywood Trio dance, I’m going to be surprised if troupe member Henry Byalikov isn’t a teaching Pro on Dancing With The Stars very soon and a popular and much loved one at that! Would you agree?

Also, and if you haven’t heard, Henry has a dancing role in one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2012, “The Great Gatsby“. Henry also taught the leads Leonardo Di Caprio, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan how to dance for the movie. Below is more from Henry’s Official site for how this role came to be….

Henry was hand-picked by Australia’s leading contemporary ballet choreographer Mr Graeme Murphy to perform as a principal dancer in his brand new Contemporary ballet company ‘Graeme Murphy’s Suite Synergy 2011. Henry’s impact in the production was immediately well received with such reviewer statements exclaiming me as a “Fiery Flamenco Star”, and distinguishing him from the rest owing to Henry’s extraordinary ability, “Henry’s Byalikov, whose powerful intensity of focus and dramatic use of footwork, upper torso and arms unfortunately showed up the inadequacies of the accompanying quartet of dancers in this style”.

After performing to thousands he was then sought out again and requested to create a dance number for the lead roles in the brand new musical King Kong. He was then engaged as a performer in the musical.

Following the success he had in the musical, the choreographer Mr John O’Connell chose Henry to feature in Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’, as well as to teach the lead cast, the likes of Leonardo Di Caprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan, how to dance for the movie.

You can read more about Henry’s career here. Currently, “The Great Gatsby” has a December 25th release date. Below you can view the stunning trailer which features some of the cast dancing in several shots.

I’ll definitely be hitting the theatre to see this, will you? And wouldn’t it be cool if the producers of Dancing With The Stars featured Henry and the ballroom dancing in this movie on one of the results show to help promote it? A Dancing With The Stars fan can dream right? :)
