PureDWTS Season 19, Week 10 – Power Rankings

Several things that make me go “hmmmm” this week: the scores very much in a close cluster headed into finale week (74, 75, 76, 78), Sadie back to being low-balled a bit; the sudden repetition of the phrases “momentum”, “going all the way”, and “contender” with reference to Janel; the decision to bring back Maks for a visit; and the fact that Alfonso seems to be in some serious pain.  All are things that make me wonder about the finale, in a variety of ways…you’ll see why.

Tommy, Tommy, Tommy – it was great run, buddy, and you very much went out on a high note (no pun intended…ok, maybe a little bit).  Thought that the Chonger actually gave two very respectable performances tonight, and his rumba in particular was a lovely illustration of just why I appreciated him so damn much this season: he let us see a softer side of Peta.  I don’t think I’ve EVER seen her so emotionally attached to a partner, and it made her a lot more human and relatable for me – plus Tommy was just so daggone charming, and seemed to really embrace the experience of being on DWTS.

1.) Alfonso & Witney – Injury aside, I think we saw something out of Alfonso tonight that we maybe hadn’t noticed as much when he wasn’t injured: heart.  I loved seeing the fighting side of Fonz tonight – his technique may not have been as on-point as we’ve seen from him in the past (though by no means was it shoddy – even injured, the guy is still a revelation), but I think it just made it more obvious how hard he was trying and how much he really wants to be here and do well – so I appreciated both of his performances tonight, as well as Witney’s choreography.  She has been a revelation this season – really loving how she’s able to showcase her partner.  Also worth noting, I think – just how many (and how diverse) a group of celebs showed up in Alfonso’s “flashback” package to wish him well.  Rick Schroeder, Emmitt Smith, most of the cast of Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and…Dan Quayle??? I like to think it just illustrates Fonz’s broad-spectrum appeal – and how beloved he is by so many because of both Carlton and Silver Spoons.   My only worry? That his injury may prevent his freestyle from being as truly epic as it could be, if his range of motion is limited – but I’m optimistic that he’s still going to wow us, and  he’s still got time to heal.  He’s still my pick to win 😉 Read more..

PureDWTS Season 19 Media And Interviews After Dance Night, Freestyle Highlights

Good Day after dance night!!! Ready for some media and interviews after the Dancing With The Stars Semi-finals? First, I have to commend and congratulate Tommy Chong and Peta Murgatroyd for a job well done!! They captivated me all season and never gave up! It was like watching a continuation of Sharna Burgess and Andy Dick! Also, Peta proved she can teach anyone while Tommy proved that anything is possible despite hardships and hard knocks in life and that you can still laugh, turn it around, and dance too. I’ll never forget their “Scent Of A Woman” dance the most of all… which will always be one of my favorites in looking back on Dancing With The Stars in the future.

With that said below is a recap and some new interviews. JC Rubio and Allison Holker also talk about the couples strengths and what they can work on for the Finals (in the first Afterbuzz TV video. LOVES them!). Also, there is a fun interview with Len in the second PopTVDotCom interview. You can also visit ABC7 and the Daily Mail for some breathtaking pictures. Note that they dance to the Judge’s Favorite Dance and the Freestyle. Here are a few Freestyle highlights from the interviews…

-Derek has something in mind for the freestyle and will go with what Bethany can excel in.

-Witney says they have some cool ideas. It will be super fun and energetic.

-Val had some moves planned in the beginning of the season and thought he might use them if they made it and she can do it. Adding after listening to new Afterbuzz TV interview: Val wants to celebrate their journey and have fun.

-Sadie has been busting out some moves in practice for the freestyle that she was thinking of using if they made it. She also reveals that she’s wearing tennis shoes, but, then Mark questions it and says they have to consult with wardrobe first.

Lots more below. We’ll add more highlights and interviews as they come out. So keep coming back….

More with ABC7:

More with these two at Pure Derek Hough as the day progresses.

DWTS Season 19 Week 10!! Let’s discuss tonight’s show! (Spoilers)

Once again, comment to your hearts contents, as long as you remember the show night rules.

  1. Our server gets totally hosed when people sit at their computer and click “refresh” constantly. Post a comment, then walk away for five minutes so that others have a chance…and so that Courtney and I can actually post on the site. 🙂
  2. THIS SITE IS NOT TWITTER. Do not post like you are on twitter. You get one warning and then I put you in time out. 🙂 We need context and content. Believe it or not there are a lot of people who don’t watch the east coast feed of the show, so they don’t know what the hell you’re talking about when you post a comment that says, “Boy, that sucked.”  If you want to say “____ and ____’s dance was not good at all, crappy choreo” that’s fine. That would be context. It is good. 😀  Remember, if you post five one liners in five minutes, you’ve broken rule number 1. 😉

:::sigh::: Monday night football means I’m watching a live stream. Thanks, Titans.

Cutest opening goes to Sadie and Mark. 🙂

Boy, Sadie had me worried as she was all up in her own head, but man, she pulled it OUT. Great quickstep!!

For both Sadie and Bethany, CAI manages to sound disappointed when they do well. Ugh. And the underscoring continues. Seriously?? Why?

Damn, Tommy Chong, I don’t even know what that was supposed to be, but I agree with the roar of the crowd! Think he’s going home, though, just listening to what the judges are saying.

Two weeks in a row in the crappy spot for Beth and Derek. Kinda worried about this treatment, I must say. They’re still in “Pimp Janel at all costs” mode.

Derek and Beth’s Samba was super cute!! Lots of content! The song is awful though for the Samba – and they’re going to get totally hosed for it. CAI just hates the two young girls. Len of course didn’t like the fluffing about.

I can live with 9’s but I think they’re grading the song and the feel more than the actual dancing. Bad song for a Samba.

Okay, Janel got a bit out of sync and stumbled at one point, but I doubt it will be noted. But she did get a more appropriate song. CAI is definitely on the Janel train. Me, not so much. LOL to Len and his comment about Maks. Truer words were never spoken.

Honestly don’t get the raves – I thought it was a bit dull. But then I’m clearly not a Janel fan.

A perfect score? Really?? This is absurd. There just wasn’t much to that dance. Either she’s going home…or she’s going on tour and they need her to get close to winning. Seriously pushing her through to the top three. As of right now she’s 3 and 4 points ahead of Sadie and Bethany, respectively. I’m thinking the judges want either Beth or Sadie in the final – not both. Bastards.

Alfonso did a great job for having back pain. Hell, he did better than Janel, IMO. WTF, Julianne?? I think she’s sitting to close to CAI – didn’t understand what she said at all.

Damn, I’m a huge Sadie fan but I did not like that AT. The guitar was way too distracting and she messed up quite a few steps in the beginning. Got to agree with Len. It was a little too soft too.

Great job from Tommy and Peta! Wow. I’m really impressed. And he’s at 76!! Loved it.

LOL to Tom taking a shot at Val and Maks. Hehehehe….

Holy shit, Tommy got 9’s!! I guess he’s going home. Damn.

New Christmas wish – that Derek doesn’t do this show next season. This show doesn’t actually deserve him any more. It doesn’t deserve Mark either, for that matter.

Bethany’s package made me a bit weepy. Kids are so damn mean.

That was lovely. She’ll get hosed. Again, CAI sounds upset that she actually danced well. Idiot.

Happy to be wrong – perfect score for Beth. About to be totally ruined by another perfect score for the chosen one.

Much better dance for Val and Janel than the first one but still not perfect. It felt sloppy to me…and it was too short with Val playing the violin. Agreed with CAI for a change on the ungraceful part – too many lifts that she came out of roughly.

But I have to say that the unplugged is VERY hard for an Argentine Tango. Best one I’ve ever seen was Derek and Jennifer. I didn’t see anything in this dance that had never been done before, either.

Two 10s for Janel is, once again, ridiculous. But she’s only two points ahead of Bethany. That’s doable. Unless they’ve underplayed Beth so much that she’s not getting the votes. Sadie?? Could have a problem, but I think she’s beating Beth and Janel in votes, so I guess we’ll see.

Again, Alfonso does really well but you can tell he’s injured, I think. But still a great job. Whitney is really impressing me a lot this season.

And, as expected, Tommy and Peta are eliminated. They broke my heart by calling Janel safe first. 🙂

Dancing With The Stars 10th Anniversary Show, Update On Alfonso Ribeirio

First of all…just a little update on Alfonso Ribeiro. Good Morning America featured some clips of him in rehearsals for Dancing With The Stars from this past week (and from last night?). It’s still unknown whether he will dance or not. You can watch it at this link.

Also, in some other news…. Is Dancing With The Stars planning a special 10th Anniversary Show? According to this blog, there might be something in the works as they filmed a “promo” for it during Dynamic Duo week. Cool if true? I wonder when it will be aired? Thanks to Lori for the heads up!! Check out the blog it has some cool pictures.

Before the show began they filmed a quick promo for the upcoming 10th Anniversary of the show.

ETA: Here is another blog which is featuring some footage of what they performed for the promo. Be sure to read the link for more. Lori thanks…you are on a roll…

Las Vegas Odds For The Dancing With The Stars Season 19 Semi-Finals

The odds makers at Sports Bovada have made their new predictions for the semi-finals of Dancing With The Stars Season 19. Take a look below and see if you agree with them and then let us know what you think in comments.

Alfonso Ribeiro 1/2
Janel Parrish 4/1
Bethany Mota 7/1
Sadie Robertson 15/1
Tommy Chong 25/1

My thoughts: It seems the odds makers have been a mixed bag all season, but, one thing is definite. They won’t budge on their choice for Alfonso Ribeiro being the winner. Although I love Alfonso, I’m not too sure he’s going to win especially with injuries plaguing him. I think it’s going to be between Bethany and Sadie who wins. I also get a really strong feeling on Sadie, but, I will tell you more on that in DonaMadrina and I’s Finals Numerology and Astrology post. As for their prediction for Tommy leaving this week, they are probably right, but, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Janel go instead.

Let’s see what Miss Heidi and Court think….

Heidi: Man, they do this every season – they should just hang it up. All they do is go by the scores. They might have Bethany right – would not be surprised to see her take third. But Sadie in 4th place??? I think that girl is going to give Alfonso a SERIOUS run for his money. She’s a natural, she’s extremely likable – hell, her crying last week made ME cry! I’m almost at the point of calling it Sadie’s trophy for real – but it’s too close. I would say it’s a three way race between Beth, Alfonso and Sadie and that Beth is a distant third in that trio.

Courtney: Alfonso WILL remain in the competition, and he WILL win. I’m willing it to happen 🙂 Ugh…even the oddsmakers are buying into the Janel hype. I can tell you this much: demographically, I think Sadie is annihilating Janel in terms of votes – I’d stake my life on it. At this point, I think Alfonso & Sadie end up as the final two, regardless – and I pick Alfonso by a slight margin, simply because I don’t trust the judges to not lowball Sadie. I think Janel & Bethany duke it out for 3rd & 4th – maybe Bethany with a slight advantage. I think it would take nothing short of a miracle for Tommy to make the finale.

Peta Murgtaroyd And Tommy Chong: “Why Not Go One More Week?” (New Interview)

Peta can’t stop smiling and neither can many of us. I just love these two!! Thanks to DWTSgossip for the heads up on the KTLA interview.

Also, any guesses for what Tommy will do with the Mirror Ball if he wins it? You’ll have to read Derek Hough’s new blog to see. Hilarious!

DWTS Season 19, Week 9: Dancing by the Numbers!

Okay, we’re finally to the point of the competition where things could get interesting. But probably not. Yet. 🙂 Why? Well, we find out once and for all if Tommy’s fanbase is all that.

I’m not going to talk much about the scoring this past week – I think I’ve made my feelings abundantly clear. Whole lotta work going on to make sure that Tommy doesn’t go to the finals – and that Janel DOES go to the finals. Could say the same for Sadie, I guess, since she clearly forgot the choreo and if we complain about mistakes being overlooked for one contestant, I guess we have to do the same for the other. Thing is, I can’t get too worked up about Sadie because she forgot – you wouldn’t have known if you were watching just her and not Emma. It wasn’t a flub as much as an ad lib, if that makes any sense. I can actually believe, in her case, that the judges didn’t see it. They clearly did see in Janel’s case – and didn’t care.

Anyway, still peeved but moving on. Really tough row to hoe this week for Tommy. I’ll be very curious to see if he makes it or not. Let’s take a look at the scores.

Week 9 Table 1

Miniscule points between the top four – huge points between first and last place. And I really can’t argue with it too much. Love Tommy and Peta very much – but he’s not the dancer that the others are and he knows it.

But what does he have to do to stay?

Week 9 Table 2

It will take a minute, here, to explain why if Tommy is killing it in votes it will be Janel who suffers. I think. 🙂 The next lowest person is Sadie, but…

Week 9 Table 3

As you can see, Sadie only needs 2,400 more votes per million votes cast to beat Bethany. I have no idea if she’s managing that or not. I think she’s getting a ton of votes, but it all depends on if Bethany’s Motavators are all voting. If they are…well, still hard to say.  But it doesn’t matter. Why? Because I would wager that both girls are beating Janel handily. There’s tiny margins once you get higher than Tommy on the leaderboard. Here’s Bethany’s chart:

Week 9 Table 4

Now, Sadie only needs 9,400 votes per million votes cast to beat Janel or Alfonso. Don’t know if she’s managing it with Alfonso, but I would bet she is beating Janel. That’s why it doesn’t matter if she’s beating Bethany at this point – she’s beating Janel (I believe) and I think that Bethany is also beating Janel, since she only needs roughly 7,010 more votes per million votes cast.

Alfonso only needs ONE more vote per million votes cast to beat Janel and do I think he’s getting that? Of course.

So, what I think that all means is that Sadie is beating Janel, Bethany is beating Janel and Alfonso is beating Janel – which means it could well come down to Janel and Tommy as the bottom two.

So, who will go home? Well, I think Tommy will because as much as I think he is raking in votes, he would have to get nearly 47k more votes per million votes cast to beat Janel. That’s a lot of votes.

Before anyone asks, yes it has been done before. Kurt Warner got about that many (49k?) to send Audrina Patridge (who was at or near the top of the leaderboard) home in week 6 of Season 11.  There have been a few instances of contestants overcoming big numbers of votes to stick around.  As I said at the time, it was not just that they were getting lots of votes, but that the person eliminated was getting few. Audrina (as Courtney and I predicted a couple week before she was eliminated) was one of those and for a long while, I believed Janel was one of those. Is she still? Well, usually this level of pimpage doesn’t work. But sometimes a gullible audience just now turning into the season buys it. But it’s always possible that they like the other contestants better. I will say that this is the first season in a while that I wasn’t SURE who would win. But I am pretty sure it will be neither Tommy nor Janel. Beyond that, the finish order is a toss up. Eveything will hinge on the scores.

So, I’m pretty sure that the wacky scoring this week did the trick and Tommy will sail off into the night. He’s had a great run and he’s given me a new appreciation for Peta. If it’s anyone other than him or Janel I will be mildly surprised, but not shocked. Three young girls with correspondingly young fanbases and you just never know what those kids are doing. 🙂

PureDWTS 19 Semi-Finals Numerology Predictions: “It’s This Tight”

Hi All! DonaMadrina is back with her seasonal Numerology Predictions and Analysis and she outdid herself. Read on to see what I mean. This is fascinating….and talk about a tight call this time. Be sure to let us know what you think in comments.

“It’s This Tight”
by Donamadrina
If you’ve been reading PureDWTS for a while now, you know that it’s a tradition for Vogue and I to take a look at which couples have the best chance of winning Dancing With the Stars based on astrology and numerology – and, hey, we’ve got a good record too – so far. 🙂 I’m going to start the thrust this week with a look at the numerology of the final five couples, and then both Vogue and I will look at the final four next week.

Each season seems to get tougher to predict. (Gosh, why is that?) However, even the professionals who do this all the time seem to be having a problem. If you take a look at the Las Vegas odds throughout the season, you will notice that the odds for the final 3-4 have fluctuated tremendously. Most of the odds makers have Alfonso winning, but will he? BING, the search engine, has projected Sadie and Mark as the winners based on video views and searches. Another source projects that it will be Janel and Val. So who will it be?

Well, let’s take a look at which couples may be in the final 4, though if you’ve been reading Heidi’s Dancing By the Numbers, it may seem a bit obvious. For now, let’s see if numerology confirms what Heidi sees from the math. How does numerology work? Well, that subject is beyond the scope of this blog. Let’s just say, it works. However, gotta admit that numerology is not an exact science. It takes the blending of many factors, and that’s where numerology becomes an art. Read more..
