Dancing with the Stars Season 17, Week 3 – Dancing by the Numbers

This week, I saw lots of questions about Bill Nye’s departure from the show. Some said there was no way that others got more votes than him. To which I responded, “they didn’t have to, Bill could get more votes and still be eliminated if he didn’t cover the spread.” This is the thing that continually gets lost no matter how many times I write these numbers posts. Bill Nye was WAY below the next highest scorer, so HE had to make up lots of votes in order to stick around.

I saw some comments saying it was “fishy”. Was it fishy? Well, it certainly could be, depending on your perspective. I mean, really, Brant got a 27? I don’t think so, in a real world. There is no way he did a better job dancing than so many couples. But he most likely was in danger of leaving and was, thus, overscored to protect him from Bill Nye. You overscore Brant and make sure others who might not be getting the votes have enough of a lead on Bill Nye and it’s perfectly plausible that Bill goes home. How did the night stack up once all was said and done?? See below.

Table 1

Looking at that table, it seems to me that Brant was grossly overscored and Christina was overscored a bit, relative to Amber. Is it a coincidence that two people likely at risk due to Bill Nye but who are good dancers are overscored? I don’t think so. I think Liz is also in potential danger, but she danced very well, so I wouldn’t say she was overscored. Bill’s low score gives her breathing room. The people in danger, IMO, are scored high enough to put them out of reach, those who are getting votes are getting more realistic scores. Just my speculation. So, what did Bill Nye have to do to actually stay on the show and how did others have to do in terms of votes to be safe? See below. Read more..

PureDWTS Guest Poem for DWTS17 Week 3 “A HI HO HOLLYWOOD EXTRAVAGANZA”

Drum rolls please…below is Lois with a Dancing With The Stars Season 17 poem for week 3. Thank you, Lois!!!

A HI HO HOLLYWOOD EXTRAVAGANZA!

A HI HO HOLLYWOOD EXTRAVAGANZA in the ballroom Monday night
Dancing displays from The Lone Ranger to James Bond, a pure delight

The ballroom was a brilliant, breathtaking, bedazzling, bewitching sight
The opening number of a Vaudeville, flapper theme in the bright spotlight

Elizabeth and Val glided across the floor, a Foxtrot with grace and verve
Jack and Cheryl wowed the crowd, their Cha Cha Cha they did serve

The Charleston, the happy feet of Amber and Derek, Christina and Mark
A Jazz routine by Bill and Tyne, robots filling the floor with stationary spark

Tony and Leah attacked the Rumba with elaborate steps as in a revue
Tristan and Valerie performed Grace Kelly and Freddy Mercury on cue

Corbin and Karina Quickstepped with lightning fast, high stepping feet
Brant and Peta Quickstepped on the floor with marvelous moves so neat

Nicole and Sasha sparkled the Paso Doble and a one handed cartwheel
HI HO SILVER, Bill, Emma’s Paso excited the ballroom, sealing the deal

The time came for the couples to take their places at the end of the show
Sadly Bill and Tyne were the ones leaving, they had to leave, had to go

A HI HO HOLLYWOOD EXTRAVAGANZA of epic proportions and thrills
We were left wanting more dancing, much more to fill our dancing bills

The dancing show we love so much will return Monday night we are sure
Don’t you wish we had the Tuesday night show for more dancing galore!

ABC Releases Show Details For Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Week 4

The new press release from ABC doesn’t tell us too much for what we know already for what’s taking place on Dancing With The Stars next week. As you know, Julianne Hough will be a guest judge, but, there is also information about who is helping with the opening number.

“Episode 1704” – 10 remaining couples take to the ballroom floor and two-time professional champion Julianne Hough returns to guest judge for the first time alongside Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba on “Dancing with the Stars,” MONDAY, OCTOBER 7 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). The show will feature an opening number with the entire cast choreographed by Ray Leeper and each couple will compete in a dance style that they have not previously performed. At the end of the night, one couple will face elimination.

More at ABC.

Afterbuzz Reviews DWTS With Sharna Burgess, Arsenio Hall Interviews Keyshawn Johnson

Afterbuzz reviewed Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Week 3. This time Sharna Burgess and Anna Trebunskaya join them. It’s so great to see Sharna again!! She talks more of her teaching Keyshawn Johnson to dance and their elimination. She also says she’ll still be dancing on the show this season for the opening numbers. Lots more below including a break down on Monday’s show. See if you agree with all of their assessments…

And speaking of Sharna, Keyshawn Johnson was a surprise guest on The Arsenio Hall Show last night during a segment when they were talking on the football players who have done Dancing With The Stars. He talks of how nerve wrecking Dancing With The Stars was performing LIVE, but, it was a great experience.

PureDWTS Season 17 Week 3 More Media After Dance Night Part 2

Hey All! Just a few more media things to share!! Below is Extra with the cast after the show! Derek comments on Julianne judging next week at the end. Val is asked about Maks judging as well.

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

Also, don’t miss the cast being interviewed by Glamour. They ask some of the cast members about the craziest L.A thing they ever done. There are some cool backstage shots at the link too. Thanks to Lori for this gem.

Jack Osbourne: One time, Paris Hilton was in my car and we were running away from paparazzi, and I had my buddy with me from England and he had never been to L.A. before and he arrived an hour earlier, and here we are, with Paris in the car, flying down Sunset Blvd. with all these paparazzi following us, and he’s like, ‘what is happening right now?!’ It was a pretty weird moment!

Corbin Bleu: I have never done this before, and I’ll never do it again, but I was at a club in Vegas, and there was a pool in the middle of the place. We were having a great time, and one of my friends got a little drunk and pushed me in the pool. So I come out of the pool, dripping wet, and the security comes up and says, ‘you have to leave!’ I’m going, ‘but she pushed me in!’ They weren’t having it. I couldn’t even get it out of my mouth, but I actually said, ‘Do you know who I am?’ and he goes, ‘No.’ And the friend that I was with is a well-known actress as well and so I said, ‘well, do you know who she is?’ [Laughs] Needless to say, we ended up leaving. But it made a funny story, and I would never do that again!

Anna Trebunskaya wrote a review on this week’s dances at ABC as well. I was a bit shocked when she said Amber and Derek’s dance could have used more content. Wha?

Valerie Harper: A very cute concept. I was smiling the whole time during this routine. Valerie looked beautiful and Tristan looked slightly kooky. I loved it. I feel that Valerie really had a tough time remembering this week’s routine. There were a lot of hesitations and uncertainties in her movement. I hope she gets back on her groove for the next week and many weeks to come. I love watching her.

Bill Engvall: I love his spirit! I’m so glad that he finished the whole routine and didn’t mess up at all. There was a lot of content that was actually Paso Doble. Bill has to learn the difference between creating a strong line and getting stiff throughout the whole body. He is not the most natural dancer on the show, but he’s working very hard and it shows.

Amber Riley: That was a very entertaining routine! Not a very technical one, but a lot of fun regardless. I love the combination of old school Charleston and some modern booty shaking (crumpling and hip-hop influence). She looks fantastic and sparkles in every routine. Make the next dance with a little more content, and you’ll get a higher score.

Chelsie Hightower wrote on the dances as well at ABC. Here is a bit from her blog.

Christina Milian: Mark and Christina next. Completely entertaining from top to bottom! Loved it! Complete synchronicity through many moments. She can still work on refining some of her moves but in my opinion, it was definitely her best dance so far. (P.S. We have all joked about the risk of painting our faces because if the judges don’t like it, you have to endure a grueling five minutes of ridicule with your face painted making you feel like a real idiot.) So I’m really glad the judges loved it as well for marks sake, sanity, and reputation. 😉 But back to the dance, do I think it deserved a higher score than Derek and Ambers Charleston? I don’t, but it was still great! 9

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi: Loved Snooki’s intro and I loved the dance! It was a huge improvement from last week. Snooki could work on pressing her shoulders down and as I would say to my partner, “Lock those lats down and throw away the key.” (Back to elementary school and it works every time.) But other than that, she brought great energy and attack. One of these weeks, I want to see her totally immersed in the performance because I know she can show us full on emotion and full on facials. But this dance was very well done. 8.

Bill Nye: Last but not least, “Bill Nye The Science Guy! Bill Bill Bill Bill!” (that tune gets me every time). Aww, Bill. He has all the drive to win, but couldn’t overcome the insurmountable. You gotta give him props for the valiant effort. There isn’t much to critique since he was barely able to move or dance, but I do give him an A+ for effort and his will to succeed. Unfortunately, I have to give him a 6 along with the judges for dancing.

Overall, another wonderful night for dance. Hate to see Bill go cause I know he wanted to be there so much, but it was the right decision especially considering his injury. Until next time!

Lastly, you can also watch Bill and Tyne on The View today at this link.

Shew! What a day and I think that makes this post a wrap! 😉

ETA: Carrie Ann Inaba felt compelled to write on the night at Parade. Below is what she wrote on Brant and Snooki. Lots more at the link as always.

Brant Daugherty: He’s turning out to be a stronger and more natural dancer than any of us had expected. He’s got nice jazz lines, clean—almost Broadway-like in their clarity of form. This is good and punctuates his movements clearly. He is light on his feet and is just as agile as Corbin. He’s a pretty dancer—meaning his pictures are pretty and he’s got an easy musicality. His megawatt smile enhances his performance, as does his incredible chemistry with Peta; his weakness is that sometimes he throws his arms to far. Right now, I’d say his injury is his biggest downfall. Proper placement of his feet in the dances could be problematic in the future.

Snooki: She was the surprise of the night. While her movements can tend to be rigid and stopped short of their full expression, last night, she pulled out an incredible routine and sparkled like never before. Nicole is the wild card, which last night worked for her but may not lend itself to consistency. She is not sure exactly of how to do the movements, but by sheer determination she does them. She has that certain “X” factor that is probably what has given her such incredible stardom in such a short time. There is an undeniable magic to Snooki, but the question remains: can she bring magic every time to her routines? I don’t think it’s a good idea to depend on that. I think she needs to work on finessing and finishing her movements to a nice polish. Then watch out!

PureDWTS Season 17 Week 3 Interviews After Dance Night, Some Dances Revealed

Another fun night on Dancing With The Stars!! Let’s see what the couples had to say about it!!! First up, we have some Access Hollywood interviews. Let’s go straight to the couple eliminated this time…..

Bill Nye tells Shaun Johnson he knew he was in big trouble after last week’s dance. He describes the pain and how they wanted to find a way to still dance. He also comments that he thinks he could have danced another week if he wasn’t eliminated, but, this was probably for the best. He then gets scientific about everything and I’m lost now. 😯

Always so humble, Valerie Harper blames herself for the scores and her difficulties dancing last night. Tristan says everyone has good and bad weeks especially if there is an injury. They have nothing but great thoughts for Bill Nye.

Karina says last night’s Quickstep is the fastest she’s ever done with someone. Corbin says he was more nervous last night since he’s never done a ballroom dance. He didn’t want to mess up any of the moves or his frame.

In this interview, Shaun Robinson of Access Hollywood says that she “jumps out of her seat” every time Derek and Amber dance which is exactly what these two to do me every time. Amber said she had so much fun. She loved her song and Read more..

DWTS Season 17, Week 3 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show!! (SPOILERS)

Now it gets interesting. Remember, if someone dances like crap tonight, they are still banking on last week’s votes. It’s only tonight’s judges scores they have to worry about. I think there are a few people that will likely be safe tonight regardless, including Valerie, Leah, Corbin, Jack, Amber and maybe Snooki. I could certainly be wrong, but I think it’s going to come down to Bill E and possibly Bill Nye eliminating himself due to his knee. All the monkeying around about Bill Nye makes me think he’s out.

Great start with Leah and Tony. That was a very good dance. Only issue I noticed was the tendency to fall out of her turns, similar to Zendaya.

And Corbin in the second position? Hmmmmm…..

Shut up, Corbin, you’re a massive ringer.

ETA: Okay, the following were in jeopardy:
Christina and Mark
Bill and Tyne
Brant and Peta

Brant was called safe first.

Bill and Tyne were eliminated.

Big question – a real elimination or not?? Also, serious wake up call to Christina this week and Elizabeth this past week – trust me, both of them will not make it to the final four.

And what did you all think about the rapid fire elimination this week? Adjustment to the short shrift they gave Keyshawn last week??

Discuss. 🙂

TV Guide Interviews Dancing With The Stars Tom Bergeron On Season 17, The Guest Judges, and More

TV Guide interviewed Dancing With The Stars host Tom Bergeron. Tom talks of the new format and what last week’s first elimination was like crunched into one show. He also gives his thoughts on some of the performances as well as the personality differences between Kelly and Jack Osbourne. Heads up…another guest judge is coming up too (besides Julianne Hough). Tom can’t say who it is yet, but, he’s excited. MORE below and at TV Guide.

Last week was the first of cramming the performances and eliminations into one show. How did it go?
Bergeron: I think that’s the one area where it was evident that we haven’t done this before. The timing was a little crunched up. We don’t have quite the time to spend with the couple that we’ve just said goodbye to, because then we go into a whole recap of all the survivors. I think we’ll probably chat about how to make that a little smoother, but for the first time out of the gate, it wasn’t that bad. We got off on time. We got off so Castle could get the proposal done. (Laughs).

Yeah, it got a little rushed at the end as Keyshawn was saying farewell.
Bergeron: That’s part of the fun of live TV, that you can see some little wires hanging from behind the curtain. You can see some of the mechanics of it. From the standpoint of us in the show, there’s no need to be bashful about, “This is how it works, boys and girls.” As we move through the season and we have a bit more time because there are fewer couples, that kind of thing that happened last [week] will be less of an issue. We’ll be able to, later in the season, bring in some musical acts and things of that nature that you typically would have seen on a Tuesday show.

What about the new layout of the ballroom and structure of the judges’ feedback? Is that working well?
Bergeron: It’s a little strange. The feng shui of it all, being on the other side of the ballroom and having Carrie Ann closer to me than Bruno. … But I kind of like having everything happen right away, so [the dancers] get their comments, they get their scores, we can chitchat briefly. But yeah, it’s a little weird being on that side of the ballroom.

We learned last week that Julianne Hough will be a guest judge later in the season. Has anyone else been finalized?
Bergeron: There’ll be at least one other guest judge, and I can’t give you a name [because] I don’t know that the contracts have been signed. But if it’s the person they told me is likely to do it, I’m very excited about that.
