Good Morning America Interviews DWTS Season 17 Cast Before The Premiere

Good Morning America aired a new segment on the premiere of Dancing With The Stars Season 17 this morning. The cast talked with Melissa Rycroft. We don’t have the video coverage yet, but, you can read an article about it at this link. Below is a take with comments from Valerie Harper, Jack Osbourne, Amber Riley, Leah Remini, and Bill Engvall talking of their jitters and goals. We’ll be sure to post the video as soon as it’s available. ETA: Ok, you can now watch the video coverage at this link. You can also see some of the cast dancing in stage rehearsals. Too fun!

Actress Valerie Harper, who has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer that appears to have retreated for now, told “Good Morning America” correspondent Melissa Rycroft that, physically, she’s feeling very well.

At 74, Harper is the oldest celebrity competitor in the cast. She says she has a strained knee for which she’s receiving therapy, but added that she “wouldn’t be doing this if it was endangering me in any way.”

“And I think it was a great opportunity to get out there and say, you know, ‘I have cancer … Keep living your life. Keep moving and you can win. You can extend the time, at least,'” she said.

For TV personality Jack Osbourne, who has multiple sclerosis, participation on the program will be significant in several ways.

“One thing I hope to accomplish is, I guess, mainly, just to kind of put it out there, in all seriousness, that when you get diagnosed with MS that your life doesn’t stop and that you are still, for the most part, able to do (what) everyone else can,” he said.

“Glee” star Amber Riley also hopes to send a message through her participation.

“You know, I really want young girls that look just like me to feel – just get out there and move and dance,” she said.

As for the other celebrity dancers this season, many of them have admitted to feeling first-night jitters.

“Yes, definitely nervous. Very anxious,” Riley told Rycroft, who was “Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars” champion in 2012.

Comedian Bill Engvall said he was more nervous than he thought he would be, while actress Leah Remini admitted feeling “terrified” about her looming dance debut.

USA Today Interviews And Breaks Down The New Contestants For Dancing With The Stars Season 17

USA Today breaks down all the new contestants for the new season of Dancing With The Stars Season 17. Each contestant remarks on their dance experience, what the rehearsals have been like leading up to the premiere, their biggest fears and challenges, and much more. Since we haven’t heard much from Team Daughatroyd yet, here is their feature on Brant. More on the other contestants at USA Today. Less than 24 hours to go now, Dancettes! We can do this!

Brant Daugherty

Age: 28

Pro dance partner: Peta Murgatroyd

How we know him: Pretty Little Liars, Army Wives, Days of Our Lives

Dancing experience: “Limited to the stage at my high school doing musicals. I really just wasn’t that good at it, so I wanted to develop my skills here a little bit.”

Expectations: “I was pretty cocky initially, and then when the rehearsals started and I started to see what we were actually doing, they knocked me down a couple of pegs. Peta has been reassuring me at every step that I’m ahead of the game, so I think we’re going to do well. I think we can win. I don’t know if we will, but I think we have it in us.”

Biggest fear: “That I’m going to get hurt and won’t be able to continue. I don’t do the sidelines well. If I get hurt and can’t do it, I know I’m going to still want to and I won’t be able to, and that terrifies me.”

Biggest obstacle: “Just getting my hips to move the right way. I grew up across the street from a cornfield in Ohio and now they want me to have these Latin hips. I have Midwestern cornfield hips. But we’ve been doing exercises to loosen me up and they’re going pretty well.”

What hurts: “My feet, definitely. They were pretty sore the first week. They’re getting better now. They had me putting them in ice baths at the end of rehearsal every time.”

Team name: “There are some terrible ones being thrown around: Daughatroyd, Team Breta and Team Pant. I don’t like any of them. We’ve got to come up with something better.”

Executive Producer Conrad Green Talks On The Changes For Dancing With The Stars Season 17

TV Guide has a new article up with Conrad Green, the Executive Producer for Dancing With The Stars, talking about this season’s changes. He tells fans not to fret. The show will be slightly different, but, it will still be the same show everyone loves. He also talks of the elimination, set changes, and more. Below are some highlights which all sound good in my opinion. What do you think?

But longtime fans shouldn’t fret, in spite of all the modifications. “There will be changes. It will feel slightly different as a show to watch, but it will feel absolutely packed with incident and excitement,” Green says. “Essentially, at core, it’s going to be the show everyone knows and loves.”

Each episode will open with a “massive dance number” and end with a pair being eliminated, with the exception of the premiere. “It’ll probably make it a lot more nerve-wracking for people’s performances,” Green admits of the same-night elimination strategy. “But I think the benefit of that is, for an audience, the story keeps on moving.” Another benefit? An extra day of rest “will probably make a huge difference in terms of people’s sanity and hopefully will make the quality of dancing better,” according to Green.

Other revisions include a new set design. Gone is the skybox; instead, the celebrity and dancer seating area will be situated on the floor near the judges’ table — which will also be shifted to the opposite side of the ballroom. The show is also adding a makeup room and a rehearsal room, where co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet will chat with the contestants before and after their performances, while Tom Bergeron will run the show from the main stage. “Brooke will be moving a lot more around different parts of the studio, to get sort of a bit more of what’s going on behind the scenes on the show,” Green explains. “So, we’re hoping the show will be more fluid and a bit less sort of predictable.”

PureDWTS17 Media Round-Up One More Day And Counting (New Pics, Odds And Ends)

Hey, just a little “studio parking lot” picture heads up!! Be sure you see the Daily Mail first thing. They posted new photos of the cast of Dancing With The Stars Season 17 arriving and leaving rehearsals yesterday some of which include Derek Hough, Amber Riley, Cheryl Burke, Jack Osbourne, Peta Murgatroyd, Leah Remini, Valerie Harper, Tristan MacManus, Brant Daughtery, Bill Nye, and Emma Slater!!! Zimbio Pictures has a slew of new pictures as well such as these two pics below of Elizabeth Berkley and Peta Murgatoyd.

The Daily Mail also has some fun coverage of Snooki celebrating her son’s first birthday. Baby Lorenzo is adorable to say the least.

There is also a little piece at USA Today of Leah Remini commenting on Dancing With The Stars and how it’s helped her after her split with the Church of Scientology.

The difficulty of breaking with the church helped her to come onto the celebrity ballroom dance show, which Remini says she has turned down repeatedly in the past.

“Considering what I have been through this year, I figured that I am really at a vulnerable place in my life,” says Remini. “But I want to come from a place of strength. And it scares me do this. I want to go into it having fun. I want people to be inspired.”

Right now she is inspired to take on the rigors of the ballroom dance show.

“I think when people come out of something, and go into something new, it’s so invigorating,” says Remini. “And the amount of love and support you get for doing something, that might inspire other people during a difficult time.”

I wish there was some new pics and more interviews with Sharna and Keyshawn Johnson? 🙁 Though, if you go to this link, you can see a video of Keyshawn practicing a few dance moves during a 710 radio break. Also, below is Keyshawn Johnson with a “Mirror Ball Salute”! Sharna tweeted it saying, “Salute to that MBT!! #dwts So beyond proud of @thromedamnball & can’t wait for y’all to see him kill the cha cha this Monday on @dancingabc!!”

And that makes this post a wrap for now. One more day and counting, All! Not long to go now! xxx

Dancing with the Stars Season 17, Week 1 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

Hoo-ray!! It’s that time again folks. Time to talk about dances and dance order. Who’s going to do well and who’s…not. 🙂

Leah going second to last is no surprise as she’s one of the bigger names. I’d be willing to bet that Valerie goes last – takers? 🙂 Amber got a good spot at the top of the second hour. Pretty interesting that they stuck Bill in the second hour.

ETA 1: I take it back. I don’t think they will have two foxtrots back to back and Leah and Valerie have the same dance. So…maybe she will go first?? No, cuz Jack is going second. Hmmmm…Here’s my guess. For now.

ETA 2: hmmmm…someone tells me that Peta says they are dancing first, so I think there was a shuffle late in the game.

ETA 3: And Cheryl says they are dancing 4th. How widespread is the shuffle??

ETA 4: So, Snooki’s number is 12 – but will she dance last??

ETA 5: A little birdie tells me that the DWTS crew will play paparazzi in the opening number tomorrow night. 🙂

ETA 6: And Tony says he and Leah are dancing second. It’s starting to seem like they set the phone numbers before they did the dance order. Possibly because they had to do camera blocking a day earlier than normal? Who knows what’s going on.

ETA 7: And a birdie named Courtney tells me that she’s 75% sure that the opening number is to “Applause” by Lady Gaga. She’s sure it’s a Lady Gaga song, in any case. 😀  She also told me to blame her if it’s wrong.

ETA 8: Sharna says they are dancing 8th…and their number 3408? Well, see, all is not lost. 🙂

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Dancing With The Stars Season 17 – Las Vegas Odds Before The Premiere

Awww, our first Las Vegas Odds post for Dancing With The Stars Season 17! Even without seeing our new couples dance yet on Dancing With The Stars, the odds makers have their bets in at Sports Bovada. Note how their top four include Corbin Blue, Christina Milian, and Amber Riley and Elizabeth Berkely. They have Bill Engvall, Bill Nye, and Valerie Harper tied for last place.

Corbin Bleu 5/2
Christina Milan 13/4
Amber Riley 11/2
Elizabeth Berkley 11/2
Leah Rimini 7/1
Snooki 8/1
Brant Daugherty 10/1
Keyshawn Johnson 10/1
Jack Osbourne 25/1
Bill Engvall 50/1
Bill Nye 50/1
Valerie Harper 50/1

My thoughts: The top four is looking reasonable to me with an exception to Keyshawn Johnson. I think he should be placed higher. I think Valerie Harper will do much better too. They should have her listed in the middle of the pack somewhere. I also think Brant Daugherty should be placed a little higher as well. It’s so hard to tell though without seeing them dance first! Thank goodness, it won’t be long until dance time. 🙂

Let’s see what Heidi and Courtney think and you let us know in comments what you think too…..

Courtney: I think Bill should be higher – I’m seeing a lot more buzz about him than I initially thought I would, and he’s got some dance background…so he may have some staying power.  I would drop Leah and Brant down a bit – I just think Brant is less well-known and Leah seems to rub some people the wrong way, so they may struggle with votes.  I would probably drop Jack down a bit, too – I’m not sure he’s going to hold the same “redemption” appeal that his sister did.  As for the top – I think they have it ABOUT right, but I think Amber might have more of an edge than Christina – she’s more current, and she has Derek, who consistently brings out the best in his partners.

Heidi: I think the top four is right on target, not having seen any of them dance. Have to disagree with Vogue about Keyshawn, though – someone has to be on the bottom and I’m not sure this guy is into it. I guess we’ll see. I do think Valerie should be higher, toward the middle of the pack. I think Leah needs to come down and Bill Nye needs to go up some. I think he’s going to be underestimated in a big way. Jack Osborne?? No idea – I don’t think that kind of lightning hits one family twice, frankly. And part of that has to do with who your competition is, of course. We’ll have to wait and see how they all stack up against each other, but only one Kardashian could rise toward the top and I think only one Osborne will as well. And Kelly already has. I’d leave Snooki where she is, put Bill E at the bottom by himself, and move Brant down a bit as well. Being hot is no guarantee – just ask Aiden Turner. Or Ashley Hamilton. Or Mike Catherwood. Or Jack Wagner. 😀

Not only are we and the dancers are excited about Dancing With The Stars starting on Monday. Judge Bruno Tonioli is excited as well. DWTS Tom Bergeron Excited To Hit The “Glitter Dome” on Monday (New Interviews)

Thanks to PureDWTS reader Kaitlyn for sending us the new interview. Below is a Dancing With The Stars host Tom Bergeron with Kiss108FM! They chat mainly about Valerie Harper and how remarkable she is to take on dancing. Tom is excited on the whole cast and looks forward to hitting the “glitter dome” on Monday! Lots more below….

ETA1: Also, CMT talked with Tom about who he thinks will win this season. Here is a take and thanks to fan Abby for sending.

This season probably won’t be much different. I mean, who’s to say that just because a country singer won this year means that a country comedian will win this year? What are the odds of that? I hope for Bill Engvall’s sake, pretty good. Engvall, who voices a character on CMT’s Bounty Hunters, will hopefully inject some humor into the show. And maybe a little man tan.

Bergeron joked that he’d heard a rumor that Engvall had already tried to sneak off with some spray tanner.

“Sometimes we have the best intentions beginning a season, and the cast goes a little crazy,” he said of the increasingly revealing outfits the dance teams wear. “They succumb to the glitter dome, and they start parading around in skimpy clothes. And, frankly, Bill seems like he could go in that direction.”

LOL! A hoot as always!!
