Dancing With The Stars Season 26 Gets New “Showrunner”

According to Hollywood Reporter, X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent veteran Andrew Llinares will take over as showrunner for the forthcoming all-athletes edition of Dancing With the Stars. Interesting. Read on….

Llinares also launched and exec produced Britain’s Got Talent — the show on which Susan Boyle’s performance became a viral sensation. He started his career as a journalist before moving to television at Granada Television in the U.K. He also exec produced and directed Pop Idol, the forerunner to American Idol.

“The challenge is to find a way to hold on to the key values of the show, while moving it forward while keeping current and fresh,” Llinares says of his goals for DWTS. “It’s definitely about evolution rather than revolution. Story and emotion are absolutely key for me. With that in mind, I want us to find ways to make the stories on the show even more compelling and the emotional connection which the viewer has to the performances, even stronger. I also want us to come up with ideas that surprise and excite the viewers every week so that they keep coming back for more.”

The forthcoming 26th season of Dancing With the Stars will be an all-athletes edition, with Llinares declining to reveal his dream gets for the cast — an obvious go-to would be Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon — but he hopes the themed season will bring an “entirely new dynamic” to the veteran series. “Over the years, many athletes who’ve participated as the celebrity dancers on DWTS have gone on to win the Mirror Ball trophy; they are used to training and competing, so they tend to do very well. I think we’ll see an intensity and level of competition that we may never have seen before on the show.”

Simon Cowell as a Guest Judge on MY DWTS?? New Interview with New EP Rob Wade

Not on my DWTS, please. He’s one of those guys who thinks he knows everything about everything but really doesn’t know all that much about anything. But hey, if you’re hot, you’ll be a hit whether you can sing…I mean dance, or not. But really – how funny would it be if Simon got to be Guest judge and Maks didn’t?   From The TV Page:

Usually when they bring a new boss into a show it is so they can shake it up…
Yeah, but this time it is not.  The show did really great last season.  Quite early on in the season, Conrad who was the EP decided to leave.  He had done 18 seasons.  He decided he wanted a new challenge.  So in this case the show is doing great and we have to be really respectful of the format.

So how are you going to put your stamp on the show?
Look, viewers love the show.  I would be a fool to go in there and say, “I want to put my stamp on this.  I am going to go in there and shake things up.”  But there are a couple of significant changes that I am in the process of making that I think people will notice.

How many judges do you think will be on the panel?
For the moment, we are looking at three.  There is a possibility for a fourth.  We are talking about that possibility.  But we have to see.  I think you have just got to get the right mix of people.  I think Bruno (Tonioli) , Len (Goodman) and Carrie Ann (Inaba) are brilliant.  Certainly wouldn’t lose any of them…

Dancing With The Stars Len Goodman Talks Of Simon Cowell, The Lottery, His Dance Studio, And More

This is cool! If you go to watch News Shopper, you can Dancing With The Stars and Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman visiting the Silver Song Club in Northfleet, England. He checks out the National Lottery funding to see how it benefits people who are struggling and sings (lol). You can also link to read a new interview where he mentions X Factor’s Simon Cowell and how he’d like to see Simon dance on Strictly Come Dancing. He doesn’t mention Dancing With The Stars, but, says he will be will returning to judge for the Fall season of Strictly Come Dancing. Below is a little take….

The dance coach, who owns The Len Goodman Dance Centre in Dartford, confirmed he would be back on the Strictly judging panel in September, but could not reveal the much-speculated line-up.

He said: “They never tell us who are going to be the celebrities until they tell everyone, which is a good thing because if I knew I’d be telling you.

“They always seem to come up with a terrific cast of celebrities; you get some good ones and some funny ones. I can’t wait.”

And he said the ultimate booking would be his TV-ratings rival, the Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor supremo.

He said: “The dream person on it would be Simon Cowell.

“If he came on it, I’d go on X Factor.

Lots more at the News Shopper including some thoughts about where he lives in England and his dance studio.

DWTS 15, Week 4: Paula Abdul is Going to Be “Judging from the Heart” Next Week

As many of you already know, Paula Abdul is going to be saddling up to the judges’ table as a guest judge next week.  She took a moment to chat with Access Hollywood after the show Tuesday night about what we can expect from her as a judge:

First impression? Paula’s a little out of it, as always, and from the way she makes it sound, she’s probably going to be pretty lenient in her scoring, since she doesn’t really have a background in ballroom…although that won’t likely matter this coming week, as no one is really doing “real ballroom”, save for Shawn & Derek. As I said to someone on Twitter last night – “I bet they don’t even bother giving her any paddle lower than an 8.5!” Other predictions? Her critiques are probably going to be kinda awkward & rambling, and I’m betting Tom is going to have to cut her off at least once.  Hope you’re armed with plenty of clever exit strategies, Berge 😉  Later in the interview, they also ask Paula what she thinks about the current season of X-Factor (with new judges Demi Lovato & Britney Spears – replacements for Paula & Nicole Scherzinger) and the feuding between judges Mariah Carey & Nicki Minaj on American Idol – both questions she politely dodges. 😛

For those of you who’ve expressed curiousity as to how the presence of an extra judge could affect the results this coming week, check out this “By the Numbers” post Heidi did back in week 7 of season 12 (“Ballroom Greats” week), when famed Latin dancer Donnie Burns was a guest judge. It pretty clearly illustrates how 3 judges vs. 4 judges can affect scoring. The biggest impact will be that the overall point total will increase – which will decrease the margins between points, and actually make it easier to cover the spread.  So for those of you hoping for Bristol to get ousted – I wouldn’t get your hopes up 🙁 But who knows…maybe Paula will be off her meds and really gouge Bristol’s score.  A girl can dream 😀

Keeping An Eye On Former Dancing With The Stars Alumni And New Gig On The X Factor

This story raised one of my eyebrows this morning being several of our almuni from Dancing With The Stars are being considered for the new co-hosting job on the X-Factor this fall. As you know from our previous reports, several of the names listed below have either teased about returning, mentioned they aren’t sure about returning, and/or have been rumored to be dancing again on Dancing With The Stars during this same time period. Read below to see what I mean. If one or several of them are picked, does this mean they are out for the new season of Dancing With The Stars? From Entertainment Weekly. Look for our Miss Heidi’s thoughts after you read this.

Simon Cowell doesn’t want to make the same mistake twice.

The X Factor chief is taking his own sweet time finding the ideal host for the second season of the Fox version of his hit show. Unlike last year, when host-bot Steve Jones handled the show solo, Cowell wants two people for the gig this fall. And instead of having a host on the singing competition from the very start, the audition rounds (which are already being shot) will be host-free. “I want to work with a boy and girl and I definitely think this is a role for two people,” Cowell recently told reporters. “[We] have narrowed it down to 5 people.”

Some names we’re hearing are under consideration: BET personality Rocsi Diaz, actor and America’s Best Dance Crew host Mario Lopez and actress/model Stacy Keibler. Add to that some names E! Online is hearing: Khloé Kardashian, Kelly Osbourne, BET’s 106 & Park host Terrence J, sportscaster Erin Andrews and radio personality Mike Catherwood (more names below).

Sources emphasize that prospective hosts are still being interviewed and actual testing for the gig is not expected for several more weeks. “They want to make sure the duo has chemistry,” one insider said.

Heidi: Reeeaalllyyy…at least Steve was nice to look at…the ONE time I watched the show. 🙂 Call me crazy, but I don’t think ole Simon is going to be able to duplicate the success he’s had in the UK with this show. And really, dude, “boy and a girl?” These are all grown ass people you’re talking about here!! And guess what? You’re not making me any more inclined to watch the show. You’ve managed to pick some of my least favorite DWTS people, with the exception of Kelly. Erin Andrews? No. Although I did hear that she’s quit her ESPN gig….or something like that. To claim that I follow Erin’s activities would be over stating it tremendously. Oddly enough, out of this group, I think I would like Khloe best. Crazy right? Khloe and Mike?? Could be awesome…or so trainwrecky as to be a blast to watch. 😀

As to Vogue’s question about if doing XF rules them out for All Stars – most definitely, I would say. It might be in the studio next door, and they would likely have plenty of time…but DWTS hasn’t crossed network lines before for their “stars” so I don’t see them starting now. Unless desperate. 🙂

I guess the real question is…is EW full of crap or have they got a legit source on all this??

DWTS Season 14 – Oh Come On, That’s Not Gonna Happen! Chapter 3

In case you missed chapter 1 and chapter 2,  this is a series where I talk about what I see on Twitter that makes me roll my eyes in exasperation or laugh…or just groan in disbelief. 🙂

Once again, we have a series of people who don’t seem to read and comprehend the written word all that well…or perhaps they just read too fast. Whatever the case may be, they are a tad annoying.  Why, you ask?  Well, Huffington Post (awesome site, btw) publishing a post that they very clearly call their “wish list” is NOT a listing of people who are going to be on the show, OR a listing of people actually rumored to be on the show. Please look up the words “wish” and “list”. Thank you. 🙂

And really, how many times do Tebow and his reps need to say he’s NOT doing the show before people chill on that rumor? Getting sick of his name in my tweetdeck.

What else is annoying me?? What’s “not gonna happen”??  Spamming everyone and their freakin brother with “tell them we want Marina Sirtis on DWTS” is NOT going to actually get her on the show. What it will do is piss me, and everyone else who does twitter searches, off…in the extreme. Especially when your Twitter icon is annoying as some are.  Really, just stop. I already don’t like this person or her fans and I don’t even know who she is…oh, and by the way – she will NOT have an impact on ratings one way or the other.  Every year a fan group makes this claim….and it’s usually the fans of someone I’ve never even heard of before. Go figure.

Who wants to explain to Xtina’s manager that “The Voice” did not beat DWTS in ratings on Monday night??  Do I have to say anymore?? He’s probably comparing The Voice’s numbers to those of DWTS last season…still wrong. Unless they’re both on at the same time, you have no business comparing the numbers. When they were on at the same time, DWTS was beating The Voice easily.  BTW, hell of a lead in, that Super Bowl.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the Voice. It’s far superior to anything I saw of the X-Factor (admittedly, I got bored early on that one) and it’s different enough from AI that I enjoyed it on Sunday night. But I don’t like misleading tweets like his – it’s what starts turning all the “wish lists” into serious rumors. Very misleading.

Oy Veh – sudden increase in the need to campaign for pros happened just yesterday. Namely Chelsie and Dmitry. People – your campaigning won’t be any more effective than that done by the fans of Marina Sirtis. For one thing, they appear to outnumber you (even though it’s more repetition by a few tweeters than it is a massive number of people tweeting about it, if you follow me) and for another…if they don’t find them a match, they don’t find them a match. Usually, it’s that simple.  I think Tristan’s appearance is a bit detrimental to Dmitry, even though I think he’s an inch or two taller than Tristan is, because Tristan appears to have wide appeal. Chelsie I’m not worried about. I think she’ll be back.  But seriously – the show is watched by about 20 million people.  Five or five hundred tweets ain’t gonna sway them.

Okay, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, it’s back to pro watch. 🙂

Pure DWTS Random Talk On Mel B, Brooke Burke, Corky Ballas, Madonna, And The Super Bowl

Just some random reportings today on things related to dancing and Dancing With The Stars!!

First up, join us in congratulating Spice Girl and Season 5, 2nd place winner Mel B as she has been signed on to co-host the Australian Version of Dancing With The Stars. Below is a take from Adelaide Now with a quote from Mel B confident that she can pull the job off. We wish her much luck!

“To have the opportunity to host Dancing with the Stars is great, as I know exactly what the contestants will be going through,” she said.

“To be honest, I’m just really looking forward to this year. I feel like it’s going to be my Aussie, Sydney year. I also hope to get my (Spice) girls out here.

“Emma (Bunton) and Victoria (Beckham) have new babies. As a group we’ve only been here two days, so we never got to really experience it and I’ve been telling them how fabulous it is out here.”

Speaking of co-hosting, there has been some chatter here, around the internet at various places, and at twitter about Brooke Burke possibly not co-hosting next season’s Dancing With The Stars since she tweeted about some disappointing “crazy Hollywood Industry” news which hit her hard this past week. The tweets lead many to believe it had something to do with her losing her co-hosting job. Well, with two tweets similar to the first tweet below within 8 hours apart yesterday along with Tom Bergeron addressing her as his “partner” in reply, I think it’s safe to say her job is safe?? Then again, who knows? The Hollywood Industry is indeed “crazy”. Look what happened with Steve Jones, Nicole Scherzinger, and Paula Abdul on the X Factor this week. Never did I think they’d be let go in such a fashion and so soon. 😯

Moving on! Give it up to Dancing pro Corky Ballas!! He’s been recently helping Olympic ice skating hopefuls Maia and Alex Shibutani on their choreography since last year’s world championships in which they finished third in just their first season as senior skaters. Below are some takes from ESPN. Be sure to read the link in full as they write about how costume designer Randall Christensen helped them with their costumes as well.

The Shibutani siblings got in touch with Corky Ballas through their agent, using the Yamaguchi connection, and headed to Los Angeles to begin working with him after the worlds last summer.

“But we are the first skaters he’s worked with in a while,” Alex, 20, said. “Obviously with his background, his son, Mark, and Derek and Julianne, we were honored to work with him. He’s such a fun guy to work with. It was an intensive boot camp-style Latin training with him. He’s kept up with our performances. He thought we could use a breath of fresh air.”

The coaches had high praise for the Shibutanis’ performance.

“It was awesome, awesome,” Zueva said. “All the changes worked really well. Most Latin dance movement is very sharp off ice, but it totally disappears on the floor because the surface is different. [Ballas] found them the best movement on ice.”

They worked with Ballas again in Detroit after the ISU Grand Prix Final, where they finished fifth. Alex said they have gotten “really comfortable” with the Latin style, a break from their usual, more classical style.

“The new program is much more exciting and a much stronger vehicle for us,” Alex said.

Lastly, if you are a fan to dancing in general and huge dance productions, be sure to tune into the Super Bowl halftime tonight. According to the New York Post, Madonna will be dancing, performing and singing 3 classics: Vogue Vogue - Celebration , Ray Of Light Ray of Light - Ray of Light with Holiday Holiday - Madonna mixed in it, Like A Prayer Like a Prayer - Like a Prayer , and her new, hot single Give Me All Your Luvin Give Me All Your Luvin' (feat. Nicki Minaj, M.I.A.) - Give Me All Your Luvin' (feat. Nicki Minaj, M.I.A.) - Single from her new MDNA album Give Me All Your Luvin' (feat. Nicki Minaj, M.I.A.) - Single - Madonna . I wanted to give this a special mention since number one, I’m a huge fan 🙂 and, number two, Madonna did a Salsa in challenging Dancing With The Stars rumored contender Victor Cruise at a press conference on Thursday, and number three, Nappytabs has been helping with the production of it. As you know they’ve helped with choreography on Dancing With The Stars among many other dancing accomplishments in their career. They are also currently helping Derek Hough with his new movie Cobu3D. Below are some tweets Tabitha shared about rehearsals.

Yes, can you tell I’m excited? 🙂 Be sure to let us know your thoughts and here’s to a fun Super Bowl Holiday!! xxx

UPDATE: According to Madonna website Madonnarama, the Ray of Light and Holiday Mash-up has been replaced by Music(ft. LMFAO – “Party Rock Anthem/Sexy and I Know It” Remix). Also, there will be an
“Open Your Heart/Express Yourself” interlude to transition from Give me all your Luvin’ to Like a Prayer. Madonna has tried to keep the final setlist a secret as long as she could.

Slowly making a climb from the first two weeks, Dancing With The Stars has jumped a couple of notches in TV ratings for Oct. 3rd through the 9th. The show came in at 4th and 6th which is outstanding despite the criticisms of the media and the nay sayers out there who like to sensationalize and make more of it. Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Week 2 TV Ratings For Sept. 26-Oct. 2nd

So, last week, the Nielson’s TV Ratings posted at Zap2It, had Dancing With The Stars rated at #5 and #9. This week, the shows are listed at #6 and #8. Not much of a change there and still slightly low from past seasons. Like Heidi commented last week, this may be “the new normal or maybe the show is going to reverse to having the higher rated season during the spring when Football is no longer an option.” Time will tell. Note how the X Factor came up a little from it’s 19th and 20th positions last week. It still shocks me that the X Factor is at the bottom of the 20 listed. I have a feeling people weren’t very interested in the auditions, but, they will take more interest in the Boot Camp shows and what follows afterwards. Last Night’s X Factor was super good. Did anyone see it? What other shows are you watching and liking currently?
