DWTS Season 9 – The “Twist” and Cast Rumors & Implications

I reported on this possibility some time ago – now it’s confirmed. Dancing with the Stars is starting with 16 – yes, 16 – celebrities. On the plus side – every one should get to see their favorite pro (maybe). Maybe I’m just crabby, but dang!! With 16 celebs this show could be exhausting to watch!  If a large percentage of them can’t dance…ugh.  🙂  Anyway, ET is reporting this story. Here are a few exerpts:

“This is going to be our biggest-ever cast,” he [Conrad Green] tells ET. “We are going to start big, and then about halfway through, we are going to do three double eliminations back-to-back. The middle of the season is going to be brutal when half of our cast goes in three weeks.”

In order to have enough professional dancers to partner with the stars, Green says he will be adding Anna Demidova this season, but no one new — the show already has used Chelsie Hightower, Dmitry Chaplin and Lacey Schwimmer — from “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Green goes on to explain that the reason for so many competitors this season is twofold: 1) he needs to fill the two-hour timeslot, and 2) he feels it is important to change up the show from season to season. As a result, there will be more athletes, with some new sports represented, some very big personalities, some slightly eccentric personalities [think Cloris Leachman], and a couple of names where people will go, “What is that person doing dancing?”

He goes on to basically say that it’s up to Paula if she wants to be on the show or not! That is the only person he sort of implies has an offer – and he seems to imply that Donny and Lou Ferrigno are NOT going to be on the show.

Well, what do you all think? Is it just me who gets tired just thinking about 16 couples dancing?  And the mid-season brutal double eliminations?  Eeek.  🙂
