New DWTS Rehearsal Videos from ABC (Part IV)
ABC added some more. First up, Chelsie and Louie. Um…Chelsie is a brave woman. 🙂
One of this seasons Ringers – Mya and Dmitry. Comments on this youtube mention that they took *lessons* from Mya. Ooookay.
Macy and Jonathan. And that’s all I’m going to say about that. Okay – I lied. Macy is really what the show is about. Teaching someone with no clue how to dance, to dance. (psstt – Macy – butt IN).
I am sick of this ringer talk about MYA. Yes she has taken tap but that does not translate into ballroom. Donny, Joanna, Kelly O, Aaron, Tom D have all had dance experience and some have worked with famous choreographers. Give it a freakin rest already. She and Dmitry will be great.
No, I don’t think I will give it a rest with the ringer talk – you’re entitled to your frustration, I’m entitled to mine. I’ve heard she taught dance, that’s quite a stretch from taking ballet when you were 11 (Joanna) – not even in the same ballpark. The comparision is ridiculous. As for Kelly – this is the first I’ve heard of her “experience” – what, she took tap when she was 5? 🙂 Donny? Absolutely a ringer. Not only has he been an entertainer (including dancing) since he was a kid, I’ve heard he’s been taking lessons with Anna Trebunskaya. Aaron – probably. Don’t know that much about him.
Okay here is the thing about the stars with some sort of dance experience. This show is more about learning quickly the more dance experience the better. I’m a dancer myself so I can say some styles are easier to learn. Also even if they have dance experience if you never done partnering its hard learning to trust your parnter. Aaron has danced in his shows so I’ve got a feeling he will be good…he has said the he is very competitive. Oh and he got a major compliment from the one and only Derek Hough last night(gotta love twitter)
Having a massive fanbase REALLY helps, Amanda.
Derek’s compliment was hilarious. Saying “this fool” can really play the piano – is that really a compliment? 🙂 I don’t know if being able to play piano really translates to being a good dancer. Don’t make it sound like something it wasn’t. Anyway, those two must have bonded, since I’m pretty sure they were at Derek’s house. I don’t think they knew each other before this.
ringer or not ,IMO people with dance experience tend to do better on the show (not win) ,Sabrina in week 1 already look like a pro ,Melissa with 2 days of pratice dance better then the most of the people on the premiere, even if they never did ballroom they will be better in general ,like in sytycd ,everybody has their style of dancing but they do great in pretty much everything, Chelsie and Lacey two ballroom dancers did some amazing contemporary and hip hop.
Phillipe, you are definitely right about Melissa. If she hadn’t had some dance experience she couldn’t have handled the premeire but at the same time I’m really glad she didn’t win. All I know is that I think that the people that voted for Macy in the poll I did earlier this week were on the right track. She did look a little better at the end though.
You are also right about Chelsie and Lacey on SYTYCD. The Bleeding Love routine was amazing.
Tabitha ,the Bleeding Love routine was my favorite routine from that season,i even prefer that to the tyce piece who won the emmy, and Lacey contemporary from top 20 (from the elisa song ”dancing”)that was so beautiful, i just love Lacey and Chelsie. After Julianne they are my favorites female pros.
I’m glad that Melissa didn’t win too,i liked her but IMO i never really see progress in her (like i saw in Shawn and Lil KIm),her dances in week 1,2,3 look just like week 8,9,10.
What bugs me about the whole previous experience is when in relates to the ballroom. Ballet? Yes Tap? eh not a whole lot. Melissa had major problems in unlearning all her ballet training.
Heidi, is that seriously true? If so he should not be on the show one bit. That’s completely unfair
You are completely right have a fanbase helps majorly…yeah I laughed at Derek’s compliment too. With Aaron in the music world not a bad connection for the BallasHough Band to have.
Okay Melissa for me last season I love that she was out there and doing well…after what Jason did to her…she deserved to shine a bit….regardless of what dance background she has.
But at the end of the day what I love most is getting to watch dance…no matter how good or bad a person may be.
The thing about pervious experience *as an adult* is that no matter the form of dance, if you have training you likely have improved your rhythm and timing tremendously, as opposed to those that have no training at all. Hey, I took tap and ballet when I was a pre-teen and I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t help me at all in ballroom NOW. 🙂
As for that rumor – of course I can’t swear on a stack of bibles that it’s true because I wasn’t actually there, but there was a good bit of talk on another web site, when he was still a rumor as to being on the show, that he’d been taking lessons with Anna for a year. The person doing the talking was a ballroom person, but who knows if they are being truthful. That’s why I always try to include the word “rumor” when ever I talk about it.
ETA: Interesting typo in my first sentence. I think I’ll leave it, since it sort of describes me. 🙂
Phillpe, I have to give part of the blame for Melissa always looking the same to Tony – he’s the choreographer. He did very well with her, in most cases, but he totally over-used that high leg kick – I think that’s why all her dances looked the same or similar. We were talking about having a drinking game for her dances – one shot every time her leg goes abover her head. 🙂 Drunker than crap is not a good idea. 🙂
But beside that, I actually like Melissa a good deal – she seems like a genuine person – my problem with her being on the show, beside her ballet training, was that she had a huge, extremely sympathetic, nearly all female, fanbase. I thought she would be unstoppable, regardless of ability. Before she came on I called it for Shawn due to a gold medal and a huge pre-teen fanbase. After Melissa was announced, all bets were off. Gilles was a surprise. But it turns out I was correct – there is no stopping pre-teen girls. 🙂
Heidi I think that’s why I didn’t want Melissa to win. Especially after her injury…I felt that she was getting votes because people felt bad for her and that’s not the reason to vote. That drinking game sounds fun! Wonder if we can come up with one for this season?
I bet we can come up with a drinking game for this season!
A shot every time Tom Delay says “right” or “republican” (in case anyone could forget).
A shot everytime…okay, well that first one is the only thing I could think of without seeing them all on the show. 🙂
Maybe a shot everytime his shirt is tucked in! That cracks me up…a t-shirt tucked into wind pants!
Oh…I meant Tom as well. 🙂
LOL Tabitha! And eeww. 🙂
How about everytime Mark, Tony or Maks go nearly barechested? Vest only.
When Derek does something very goofy (yet cute, to me) before or after dancing?
When we see lacey chewing gum in the package.
Chelsie wearing cowboy boots.
When Cheryl says “that’s what I’m talkin’ about”.
Maybe we should stick to the celebs – the pros are too predictable at this point. 🙂
Yeah I would like to remember the show! If we did all of that I don’t think I would!
Heide your right about Melissa, if you see her first paso and her second paso ,it was the same, tony change just a few things,Shawn and Gilles first paso were very different for the second one, the waltz and the v.waltz were very similar too, and the freestyke the lifts were the same from the lindy ,and the high leg kick in every dance, tony is a nice guy but he is not one of the best choreographers, Cheryl and Mark are way better than him, Melissa didn’t have to much of chance going in to that final.
It is going to be hard to find any entertainers outside of sports stars(non gymnastics & iceskating) that have had no dance experience. They work with choreographers ALL THE TIME!!! I work in the industry so I know it! Those that claim they have little to no experience are pretty much lying. There may be a few but not many. Kelly Osbourne has worked with choreographers regularly since she has tried leverage her parents fame into a singing career. In the end, it will be about fanbases and I can guarantee you that Donny Osmond probably can’t be beat(I am not a Donny Fan).
Maybe we should pick ONE, Tabitha. 🙂
Of course there are going to be levels in ringerdom. 🙂 Does working with a choreographer on something equate to dance experience? I wouldn’t be so sure about that – it means you have experience taking direction. It doesn’t necessarily translate into being a GOOD dancer. Take, for example, Clay Aiken. That guy can’t dance to save his life, yet he starred as Sir Robin in Monty Python’s Spamalot (and was brilliant) on Broadway which had a lot of….dancing. He learned the steps and he learned them very well. Would I call him a ringer on DWTS? Not based on dance experience – but maybe on fanbase.
Why do I call people like Mya and Donny ringers and not a Clay Aiken or a Kelly Osbourne? Because they have more than just an experience with choreographers to get by on one show – they have EXTENSIVE training, years of experience in performing AND fanbases – although Mya certainly less than Donny. Shawn Johnson wasn’t a ringer because she was a great dancer in addition to gymnast – sure she had some minimal training in dance to go with her gymnastics. Shawn was a ringer because of her massive fanbase, in addition to that.
Heidi, have we decided on our drinking game?
