Anna T – Got on a plane very early yesterday and then had a “long day”. See above about “the situation”. Although Kurt Warner has been in Phoenix this whole time and is just NOW on his way to LA – for a cookoff, he says. đ Update 2: Anna apparently came back the same day she went to….Phoenix? Chelsie – I’ve heard lots of people say in the comments that she’s in Louisiana – as is Michael Bolton (and Harry Connick Jr. who some of us have pinned our hopes on. đ ). I checked her twitter and sure enough she’s been in Louisiana since Friday. Update 2: Chelsie says she’s going to Utah for a day then back to LA

Derek – Seems to be in LA. It seemed like he was with Maks and Tony, since all three tweeted about the UFC at the exact same time (to the minute), but it could have been a coincidence. So apparently I might be onto something with my typecasting theories, because it seems like a lot of you are also trying to deduce from the absolutely CRAZY amount of rumors flying around who might be fulfilling each type…and honestly, at this point, I have no clue what to believe đ But that’s the fun of DWTS, right?
If the majority of what’s being reported is true (doubtful), then it looks to me like they might actually skip some types this season (haven’t heard any major reports about soap stars or hosts); but if they’re leaking only a few actual celeb participants and the rest are red herrings, then we might get few suprises thrown in and have a more “well-rounded” cast. But enough general speculation – on with the rest of the types!
The Teen Idol
Previous examples: Joey McIntyre, Aaron Carter, Donny Osmond, Lance Bass, Mel B., Joey Fatone, Drew Lachey, Joey Lawrence, Ian Ziering, Cody Linley, Sabrina Bryan, Mario Lopez
Advantages: If sales of Tiger Beat are any indicator, the teenyboppers will come out in full force to support their favorite heartthrobs/idols. Being young & good-lookinâ sure doesnât hurt! Many also have the added advantage of having a decent dance background, especially if they were part of a musical act.
Disadvantages: Youth can also have its disadvantages â as in immaturity. What some might call âyouthful exuberanceâ, others might call âimmaturityâ or âattention deficit disorderâ â poor Cody Linley had a hard time sitting still! Emotional immaturity (a la Aaron Carterâs post-rumba meltdown in the confessional) can be especially off-putting.
Possible candidates this season: Looks like Brandy is our best guess.Â
The Host
Previous examples: Jerry Springer, Brooke Burke, Leeza Gibbons, Mario Lopez, Kenny Mayne, Lisa Rinna, Tucker Carlson, Mark Dacascos, Rocco DiSpirito, Erin Andrews
Advantages: Being that theyâve been at the helm of their own shows, these guys usually have the media savvy & charisma to appeal to the masses, as well as the previous exposure & recognizability. Most (not all!) are also decently attractive, which never seems to hurt (unless, of course, youâre a model â see previous post for explanation).
Disadvantages: Many hosts are only used to hosting â as in just sitting down & talking (or dodging the occasional punch, if youâre Springer), so the lack of movement experience problem seems to come into play.Â
Possible candidates this season: Â Chris Jericho also hosts some show on NBC, so I guess he could do double-duty and fulfill the role of both the athlete and the host.Â
The Actor
Previous examples: John OâHurley, Melissa Joan Hart, Steve Guttenburg, John Ratzenberger, Debi Mazar, Denise Richards, Ted McGinley, Shannon Elizabeth, Jennie Garth, Vivica Fox, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Shannen Doherty
Advantages: Being that their bread & butter is acting, most can usually nail the emotions of the dances. Bonus points if theyâve done any Broadway (like Winokur) because they have likely had dance experience.
Disadvantages: For lack of a better term, many of them seem to be âhas-beensâ â actors that havenât been particularly active in the mainstream in the past several years â or were never that big to begin with (can anyone else think of anything John OâHurley has been in BESIDES Seinfeld?), making it harder for them to garner votes from a public who may not remember them.Â
Possible Candidates this season: This one has blown up big within the last few days â weâve got David Hasselhoff, Jennifer Grey, & Florence Henderson (who could also be considered a âlegendâ) now on our radar. Thereâs been a campaign for Bern Nadette Stanis, as well as one for Leslie Jordan that he himself is heading up. Also a minor campaign for Melissa Peterman.
The Reality Star
Previous examples: Kim Kardashian, Kelly Osbourne, Melissa Rycroft, Steve-O, Holly Madison, Trista Sutter, Shanna Moakler, Kate Gosselin, Jake Pavelka
Advantages: Many have achieved pop culture icon status on their respective reality outlets, making them fairly recognizable.
Disadvantages: They may be memorable for the wrong reasons â people tended to remember things like Kim Kardashianâs sex tape more than her reality show, and people seemed more focused on Holly Madisonâs split from Hef than her antics on The Girls Next Door. Many can also come across as attention-hungry & talentless â reality TV is often looked down upon as a way to get famous without having any talent whatsoever.Â
Possible candidates this season: Oy vey â this is the subtype that has had, by far, the greatest amount of casting rumorsâŠeveryone from The Situation to Teresa Giudice to both Ali Fedotowsky & fiancĂ©e Roberto Martinez, to Audrina Patridge, but itâs hard to tell whoâs got a legit chance and whoâs bluffing. Personally, Iâm still holding out for Sig Hansen đ
The Singer
Previous examples: Mya, Billy Ray Cyrus, Mario, Belinda Carlisle, Master P, Chuck Wicks, Sara Evans, Willa Ford, Monique Coleman, Toni Braxton, Macy Gray, Nicole Scherzinger
Advantages: As with the teen idols, many have had dance experience concurrent with their music careers.Â
Disadvantages: Most seem to be committed solely to one genre of music (often R&B or country), making it hard to appeal to a wide fanbase.
Possible candidates this season: Most obvious choice? Michael Bolton. But in the same token, you could also have Brandy and/or David Hasselhoff fulfilling this role if theyâre trying to kill 2 birds with one stone. The Xzibit rumor is still lingering slightly, and Pete Wentz fans are still holding out hope.
The Wild Card
Previous examples: Heather Mills, Tom DeLay, Mark Cuban, Steve Wozniak, Priscilla Presley, Buzz Aldrin
Advantages: The sheer novelty of having someone with such an off-the-beaten-path claim to fame (famous divorcee/widow, entrepreneur, disgraced politician, etc.) may be enough to have the public voting them â just to see what happens. Being the âunderdogâ is a powerful thing!
Disadvantages: Due to their often dubious fame, people just may not have any clue who they are â I personally had to Google Mark Cubanâs name.
Possible candidates this season: Can it get much wild card-ier than Bristol Palin?! Good griefâŠstill trying to wrap my brain around how theyâre going to try and spin her claim to fameâŠ

Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.
We have a few days to have our fun of guessing and matching pros with celebs before they make the announcement of the celebs on Monday night and the pairings Tuesday morning on GMA. In the interest of fun, I’ve complied a little list of stats and then played matchy matchy. đ Personally, I think we’re missing at least THREE celebrities – I think one of the men listed below is wrong. Maybe more are wrong, we’ll have to wait and see. đ

As you can see, there are a few gaps. And I’d be willing to bet that a couple of these stars are wrong. I’m SURE I got a pairing wrong or two. The Kym/David pairing is per Just Jared. The Derek/Jennifer pairing is pretty much reported by everyone, and the Tony/Audrina pairing is based on Tony and his wife’s Twitter accounts. đ The Corky/Florence pairing was reported by TMZ, but a few of us had speculated this might be the case in the comments on another post.
Notice anything about their ages?? Every decade is represented except for someone in their 60’s. But what else? Three people aged 50 or older and two of those are older than 55. That’s unbelievable. I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. We then have two people in their 40’s, two in their 30’s, two in their 20’s and one teenager. Crazy. I’m still wondering how many of these are red herrings put out by ABC/DWTS – I can’t wait till Monday.
No obvious ringers based on dance ability. But what about by fanbase? I think I would give the initial edge to Kurt Warner and Michael Bolton, but possibly also Jennifer Grey as a sentimental favorite (not to mention Derek’s own fanbase is nothing to sneeze at). Brandy and Audrina would appear to have an edge based on age and body type, but that’s what we said about Denise Richards. As it stands right now, if either Maks or Tony aren’t in the final, then THEY have the problem – everything seems to be in their favor, if these pairings are correct. And I’m reasonably certain Tony’s is, and that limits the possibilities for the rest of the guys. Can you see another way the men could match up?
As for the women, as usual I’m rather in the dark there, guessing up a storm. đ Plus I think that Michael Bolton isn’t really on the show. You will notice that ABC claims only 12 couples – but I’ve got 13 pros up there. So, who’s NOT in that we think is in?? Louis? Karina??

Baring bizarre-ness, I think the men are set at: Derek, Mark, Louis, Maks, Tony and Alec. I, like others, am having a bit of a hard time figuring Alec’s inclusion at Damian or Dmitry’s expense. I can’t figure it, actually. Makes me wonder if we have someone new who managed to keep it on the DL. OR, are we having five men and SEVEN women??

Yes, my reliable sources confirm that the former Mr. Vanessa WIlliams and current Mr. Eliza Dushku (some of you may know him as an NBA star) has been cast on the new season of DWTS, which begins September 20. Williams stars as the new fifth housewife this season on Wisteria Lane. She and RIck most recently starred together on the late Ugly Betty.

As of this writing, Lacey is back in and Damian is out. Boo, Damian didn’t have a chance. And I do like cute blonds. đ I think I’m going to call Karina as in, but she keeps tinkering with her website so I don’t know what to make of her changes.
