DWTS 11, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?
Your dances for the week are the Samba, the Waltz and the Foxtrot! I sure would love to know how they hand out dances – not crazy about their choices for some. I don’t have the full dance order yet and if past history is any indication, I may not get it. But I will update this post as info comes to me. 🙂 I have included any info I’ve read about the various dances.
Jennifer and Derek; Samba
Note: Derek has made comments about re-living a childhood fantasy. This scares me. 🙂
Rick and Cheryl; Samba – Dancing last, in the pimp spot.
Kyle and Lacey; Waltz–
Florence and Corky; Waltz
Song: Edelweiss (Sound of Music)
Note: Florence starred in Sound of Music on Broadway, so I’m thinking that’s how she ended up with this song/dance.
Margaret and Louis; Samba
Song: Copacabana
Note: Louis talks about his and Margaret’s storyline and it really doesn’t sound like it’s going to go with the music or the dance. It’s about celebrating the end of discrimination. Apparently, in their story, Lola was discriminated against for weight issues. :::sigh::: Am I the only one who thinks that they’re doing it backwards?
Kurt and Anna; Foxtrot –
The Situation and Karina; Foxtrot
Audrina and Tony; Waltz
Brandy and Maks; Samba
Note: Maks says they’re going to “portray an iconic movie” in their dance. If it’s Dirty Dancing I may go to LA and hit him. He better not touch Footloose either. 🙂
Bristol and Mark: ??Foxtrot??
Note: I’m guessing on this one since we have 4 Sambas, 3 Waltzs and only 2 Foxtrots.
This will be the time Corky and Florence make their move if they are going to make one (which I doubt. In fact, if she doesn’t do well, this will probably be the week she’s voted off even though I hope it will be Bristol.). The Waltz will be perfect for her.
Interesting how they’ve given the Samba to the better dancers with an exception to Margaret. I too wonder how they decide the dances for who and who gets what.
I have a feeling Jennifer and Derek will do really well again. But, I’d like to see Maks and Brandy and Audrina and Tony have some powerhouse dances to really let everyone know they are in this thing to stay.
I can’t wait to see how Kyle and Lacey blow us away again too. Those two are a wonderful surprise every week.
Here’s to tomorrow night All!! 😉
The ones assigned samba got screwed. But it does seem like some of the contenders got samba so maybe that is their way of evening things out. Anyone who got foxtrot or waltz has it easier since it is easier to tell stories with those dances. Rick got the pimp spot? He has gone early for two weeks in a row so it only seems fair. I am not buying the Kyle hype yet. Boy has loads of charm but I want to be equally impressed by his dancing. I am tired of Louis and his dramatic stories.
Hi will have to agree with you on your comment on Brandy and Maks. Lol… Also, I’m just as scared as you with what Derek and Jen’s storyline will be. Maybe they’ll do Dirty Dancing LOL….
Well, they’re using waltz, so probably didn’t want to give that to those who danced V. waltz the first week. Frankly, it looks like the first 4 alphabetically got latin and the rest ballroom. Or maybe those who danced latin last week are doing latin again, and same for ballroom – the only exception being Kurt (last alphabetically), who flips to even out the ballroom side. Why they chose 2 ballroom (including waltz) instead of 2 latin or 1 each is a mystery.
I don’t know if they got screwed, John, but Derek did comment that they’re (he and Jen) are getting all the harder dances right up front. Look at it this way, get the Samba out of the way NOW, when there are lots of worse dancers. Later on, provided they get through, they will get foxtrot – which was my absolute favorite dance of Derek’s and Nicole’s last season.
Derek said he’s “excited and nervous” for the show tomorrow. He really scares me with his tweets sometimes. 🙂
Looking forward for tomorrow night. Derek’s tweet sure has me nervous and scared so I am hoping it all goes well. I can’t believe that Jennifer and Derek had two tough dances in a row. I guess with them getting them out of the way now when the competition is not as tough is a good thing.
Crap. I wanted to see Lacey do a samba routine again. I haven’t seen her do one since SYTYCD. (Wait… I think she did one in Season 7… did she?)
Is Louis going to do this same storyline every season? Didn’t he do this one with Niecy? And I think that it’s going to be somewhat “forced” in that they/he decided on the story line before getting their dance or song assignment. Oh boy.
I agree, Voguerista – if Florence is going to make her move, this is her chance. If she doesn’t WOW, it may be her last dance. I have to say, though, that I really like this group as is and I’m not looking forward to anyone being eliminated. There are the strong contenders, and the weak contenders, but I really believe they all have the potential to make it to the final 4. The next few dances will tell the tale. I love Jennifer Grey but fear she won’t have the stamina to last – I was so worried that she was either going to throw up or pass out after her jive, how will she cope when they’ve got to perform 2 dances each week?
Heidi – I had a question mark next to my list of Foxtrot for Bristol & Mark as well, but I think I read some comment from Mark that we was happy with the progress of their Foxtrot (or something to that effect) that I changed my list to confirmed.
Linde, I’m not too worried about Jennifer – that Jive Derek had her do was balls to the wall fast. That might have been a Nicole caliber Jive and Nicole is 20 years younger. Derek said in an interview after that dance that he was still learning Jennifer’s limits – I think we’ll see him get more creative while not killing her. 🙂 It could be exciting – when he gets challenged, the choreography gets interesting. 🙂
@Lola Dont worry i think Kyle and Lacey will be around for awhile ( probably the final 4 ) so at some point im sure you’ll get to see Lacey do a Samba. 😀 And ok i really wanna punch Louis right now, Like, how do u tell his overly dramatic ( as always ) story bout discrimnation IN A SAMBA?? And gosh use some imagination. With Niecy he made us sit through his dramatic story about the journey to non-judgement againt gay marriage or what he was really saying is ” Dont judge me cause i have a crush on Lance Bass ” now its about not judgeing fat people….. Is there a theme going here?!, and so apparently Lola is fat and people at the Copacabana are judging her?! That dont even make since! Its mean to judge ” large ” people but like hes the one to say ” Hey stop being mean to fat peaople ” i agree it aint right but really, Mr. ( Excuse while i go tell Lacey and Cheryl how fat they are while me and my bloated korean sidekick go stuff our faces with my chocolate cake like the world is about to end ) Gawsh Louis, Why would u eat junk before dancing anyway??? Just smell the floor like Corky or any other normal person…. Lol 😛
The lyrics of Copacabana are a story within itself.
He should’ve just stuck to that instead of doing the discrimination crap.
…However, i’m hoping he proves everyone wrong and completely wows the audience with Margaret 🙂
Doubt Maks would be so cheesy as to chose Dirty Dancing. Frankly, if there is one more dirty dancing reference or mentioning of P Swayze this year, I will boycott the rest of the season. Sick of it. I think all the better dancers had harder dances up front and for the most part have come through quite nice. Louis is disappointing me. I am thinking that he is the one who might have the issue about weight rather than his last three partners. Maybe he should take a break next season.
Jeanmom I am not sure if the Pros get to choose the storyline or the music. If the music they get is dirty dancing for example, then it will be dirty dancing storyline.
Brandy and Maks better get to the top of the leaderboard this week, its time for a breakthrough dance from these two to show that they are major competitors.
And Louis and his storylines…..not impressed.
Copacabana to a storyline about a girl with weight issues? That sounds weird. What do you mean you think they have it backwards?
What I mean, Karla, was that Louis should try waiting to see what music they are given, THEN come up with a storyline, instead of trying to cram HIS story into the music. No, Copacabana was not a story about a girl with weight issues – he’s making it about that.
You know, I admire anyone who works hard for a cause, and many of the causes that Louis supports are VERY worthy ones. But there comes a time when you’ve got to stop cramming square pegs into round holes – I don’t know if he’s successfully told a story yet because he’s trying to tell the story he wants instead of what the music leads him to. When he does it his way, I think the message totally gets lost in the cognitive dissonance of the music versus the message. I can see that happening again tonight.
jeanmom, you don’t think Maks would choose something cheesy?? Did you SEE what he was wearing last week? 🙂 That was a Mark Ballas level of cheese. Even MAKS inferred the show as cheesy in his recent blog.
As for Dirty Dancing – I would get ready to boycott. The producers have been choosing the music and they’ve not got what I would call a light touch when it comes to gimmicks. I am proud of Jennifer for not going there with Brooke after the first dance, though.
@Vogue – Definitely agree about Florky – if they’re gonna bust any major moves in this competition, it needs to be this week…and unfortunately, I’m not sure that’s going to happen with such a slow, languorous song. Interested to see if they’re going to really convey a story or not – or if they’re just going to kind rely on the song to do that. I’m skeptical 🙁
@Lola – Lacey has danced samba twice on the show, and both times were in season 7 with Lance: once in week 8, and then during the samba smackdown in the finale. As I recall, the judges were just kinda ho-hum about the first one, but really liked their smackdown.
@Linde – Agree about Louis and this silly sounding storyline he’s concocted for this week. Sounds like his waltz with Niecy last season, just tweaked a bit – and that waltz fell flat. I’m bracing myself for this samba to be equally as disappointing.
And just a general opinion (which I will elaborate on in another post) – I actually think the couples who got foxtrot this week are at the greatest risk of getting sent home. But that’s all I’m gonna say right now…I’m gonna save it for the next edition of DWTS Stat Class 😉
I don’t know why I don’t like Foxtrot. The only foxtrot I ever liked (very much) was the one Derek/Nicole did. So, I agree with Cortney… the ones that got Foxtrot will be in danger.
I think I agree with Courtney, the ones with the foxtrot are most in danger of going home, since they are the weaker dancers left, with the exception of Kurt, but I would add Margaret and Louis, and Kyle and Lacey in with them, too. Why?
Well, Louis and his storytelling has been discussed earlier, he’s not one of the pros on the show that I think does a good job with storytelling. And Kyle and Lacey? The first 2 weeks, Lacey could let his enthusiasm go wild, they had first the cha cha, and then the quickstep, and while he oozed a lot of charm and enthusiasm, and did great about drawing in the crowd, his technique and his dancing was, in my opinion, not the quality of the rest of the “upper tier” dancers. They’re doing the waltz, which means Lacey’s going to have her work cut out for her, to reel Kyle in, and his technique and footwork is really going to stand out much more this week.
Derek, Anna and Mark I think do a great job with storytelling in their choreography, so unless Jennifer, Kurt and Bristol fail miserably with their technique, I to think all 3 will be safe next week.
Courtney and Guest, I agree with you about the Fox Trot. I think those people are very much in danger.
*Can’t wait for the Stats post! Courtney, glad I’m not the only one to be skeptical. 😉
I read an article today that said Kyle and Lacey aren’t happy with their dance. Kyle called it “boring”.
I really appreciate the comments on this site. They’ve caused me to watch the show in a whole new way.
Kyle & Lacey are going third and Kurt & Anna are going 8th.
Where’d you hear that Louis? I’ve been watching twitter and haven’t seen a word – although I can’t see Kurt’s twitter at work.
Derek/Jennifer’s Samba – We have a great ’80s song everyone will know. Three hints for the story: bowtie, ruler, and apple.

So they are going 6th.
Oh no, I updated the post based on your comment. 🙂 Sorry, the phone number stays static beyond the first week and it no longer reflects the dance order. Crap.
Hmmmm…I just checked a website for 80’s songs and I can’t guess based on those clues. He’s used a ruler before in a samba with Brook (I think it was Samba) when they had a song relating to School. Since he also said something about reliving a childhood fantasy, he must be the teacher and Jennifer the student or something.
With his fantasies, he’s starting to sound like John. 😉
whoops. Sorry.
@Heidi – The only songs I could think of that were 80’s songs pertaining to teachers were Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher” and Extreme’s “Teacher’s Pet”. No clue how they’d work either one into a samba rhythm though 😛 However, I’m wondering if the actual song they’re dancing to even has any mention of a teacher in it – maybe they just came up with this teacher storyline. It seemed like the songs given for storytelling week last season didn’t really have a story built into them…the couples were left to just kinda use their imaginations. But then again, Florence got “Edelweiss”, and that seems to have it’s own story right off the bat. Who knows 😛 But yes, Derek & Brooke’s samba had a schoolteacher theme to it – it was “Hip Hip, Chin Chin (The Beat)” with the spoken word part about rhythm at the beginning.
As for any other Twitter murmurings…allegedly Audrina & Tony’s waltz is a “very emotional” one, and The Sitch & Karina are very excited about their music, costumes, and choreography. Should be interesting 🙂
My first thought was “Hot for Teacher” by Van Halen.
According to Anna: “Our song is “Bad Day,” and we’re trying to make it a positive message. I’m the one having a bad day and Kurt is there to cheer me up.”

I have no clue about the 80’s, but what about that song Hey teacher We don’t need no education… or something.
Well, this is all just sounding more interesting by the minute, isn’t it? 😀
@Guest – I think you’re thinking of “Another Brick in the Wall” by Pink Floyd – great song, but I think they’d have a helluva time making it into a samba. It could work as a paso, though!
Woo Hoo – can’t wait for tonight – stacking up to be another very interesting show. I love this cast – it’s really anybody’s game at this point. Yes, yes – there are the lower tier dancers and the top tier ones, but with the 2 teams that really couldn’t cut it out already, those spots for the semi-finals are up for grabs. Hope everyone brings their A-game tonight. And that means Kyle, too. No doubt about his entertainment factor, but I have a feeling all eyes will be on his technique tonight. I think Margaret has the chops, but I fear that Louis may be holding her back. I admire anyone who can whole-heartedly support a cause, but there’s a time and a place.
And please Brooke – no more questions about Sarah Palin; …. or MIchael Bolton – been there, done that, glad it’s behind us 🙂
Good luck to all teams tonight – I’m rooting for everyone to do well
Derek just tweeted that his hair is “wild” so I’m thinking he’s the student with a hot teacher. 😉 Childhood fantasies, eh Derek?? Someone on twitter also mentioned Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” – based on his hair comment. But Hot for Teacher does make more sense. I don’t see him as the teacher this time – unless he calls his hair slicked back “wild” and I doubt that. Although I love Billy Idol, I think Rebel Yell is even less of a Samba than Hot for Teacher. Didn’t The Police have a school-type song? I seem to recall a video. Or I could be thinking of something else altogether.
Oh, and Courtney – Copacabana also has a story built in, just not the one Louis’s using. 🙂 Edelweiss, does, as does Anna’s “Bad Day” (if that is accurate). Someone just tweeted about the weather being a clue and it’s rainy in LA today. Oh – just looked and that was Anna.
I’m very excited to see all the couples tonight – and it’s been a very long time since I could say that!! 🙂 I agree, Linde, that it’s anyone’s game at this point. Kyle can only coast on personality for so long before the judges go after his feet. We’re in week 3, so they might be harder – except for Bruno. Don’t know if he can get any harder. 🙂
As for Margaret – it’s a shame they pulled that stunt the first week because she’s not getting taken as seriously now as she probably should be.
Sounds like this is shaping up to be a good show! I’m most interested in what Derek’s going to do. He always puts together the best numbers, and this “childhood fantasy” sounds especially intriguing. 🙂
@Heidi – I think you’re thinking of “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” by The Police. But that one was about a young schoolgirl having a crush on her 20-something schoolteacher – I guess it could work for those two. But again – another song that I have a hard time hearing as a samba. I’m leaning more and more towards them having a song that isn’t specifically about a teacher/student relationship.
May I have this dance?
Good Luck to all the dancers, I will however, not extend that to Bristol Palin, I am sick of the side show and Sarah Palin.
My barf bag is full.
I love dancing I do not like to see it being exploited by likes of the Palin for attention and money. Judges please judge the dancers fair
and no playing the politcal game
Good Luck
Hey guys, 1) Your website is AWESOME 🙂 2) My gf showed me this link (we r both big fans of the show and want a finale between audrina, jenniffer, and bristol) and since its from mr. hollywood gosspi himself (at least that is what she calls him lol) its probably right nut im hoping he is wrong.
http://perezhilton.com/2010-10-04-audrina_patridge_sprains_ankle_dancing_with_the_stars
@vin – Audrina did hurt her ankle but it’s not a sprain, just a very mild twist.
At first I was wondering if I wanted to watch this season with having people like Michael Bolton, Bristol Palin (is she really a celebrity?) and who is that kid dancing with Lacey anyway?
Well, now that Michael Bolton and the Hoff are off (pun intended lol) it’s fun again.
And of course I always love to see what fashion accessories my fav Carrie Ann and Brooke Burke are wearing. I found out recent photos of the gals from DWTS wearing a line jewelry from Stella & Dot. I posted that link. I just bought the necklace that Margaret Cho is wearing here: http://tinyurl.com/29lp5xj
I have a couple of guesses for Derek/Jennifer’s Samba
1. Stray Cats – Sexy & 17
2. Van Halen – Hot for Teacher
I initially thought it would be Rebel Yell but he mentioned bow tie, apple and ruler.
He’s extremely creative, looking forward to this performance.
Omg I think Derek is doing some Hot teacher fantasy he had in school probably. LMAO!
Still cannot think of what 80’s song would work with a Samba though.
yep if you see the video for Hot for Teacher then the kid being sent to school has a huge bowtie on, that is they song they are doing for sure. LOL
Derek is going to be hilarious if they dress him like that.
Guess the stories about him liking older women are true. lol
AAaaannndddd….Jennifer just tweeted that it was time for a “naughty Samba” for her and Derek. NOW, I”m excited. 🙂
Ok, I just had an epiphany: well-known 80s song with a samba beat, that would fit the whole naughty schoolboy, hot teacher theme? Janet Jackson’s “Nasty”. 😉
Yeah Courtney that makes sense cause Derek said everyone will know the song & Hot for Teacher is not that popular that everyone will know it from the 80’s but Nasty was a huge hit for Janet & has more of a Samba feel to it.
Derek danced to Nasty in S8 with Lil Kim, don’t think he’ll dance to that song again, although I would love to see it.
Think it’s going to be the Stray Cats song, Sexy & 17 as it was a very popular song in the 80s.
Derek just sent out a tweet that they are going 1st tonight and said it will be a good show tonight.
I had a feeling that they were going 1st.
Courtney, I think you just nailed it with “Nasty”. That would be hot too.
Btw, Maks just tweeted they are 7th to dance.
Forgot that about Nasty, I think it’s Hot for Teacher, the bowtie gave it away & the apple & ruler.
First oh crap, I hope they are great & the rest have to follow that.
[…] How do you think they would do? Thanks to Heidi for provided who is dancing what for this week. […]
ah man, I can’t believe Jennifer and Derek are going first tonight. I am sure they will be great. Will have to vote like crazy though.
Okay, this is way out there but I kind think he may be dancing to Humpty hump. He wears a tie, has a ruler and has an apple in his video. This song was huge in the 80s. I’m probably wrong but this would hilarious.
Okay, maybe not but that would have been hilarious I think & it’s has a great beat for dancing.
LOL Dee, I doubt it, but that would be hilarious! omg
HE said everyone will know the song from the 80’s I doubt he would think alot would know that song.
it is going to be HFT
Lets dance,
May all the real stars and celberties do well,
I hope the judges are fair and Please lets have no over the top Palin show and tell.
This is about dancing and not about Sarah Palin and Bristol show and tell time, there is place and time and its not here on DWTS
Rob, I think you’re a bit too obsessed with Bristol and the Palin clan – let it go. Focus on the positive – it’s more fun that way.
While I’m by no means a fan of her mother, or her political views, I nevertheless have a soft spot for Bristol; she comes off as sweet, if a bit deer-in-the-headlights-y, and I’ll be sad to see her go. That being said, team Jenougher all the way!
Anyone have the voting numbers for the contestants?
I got some but would appreciate if someone could put them up.
Thank you
Here ya go, Rob. Save this list for next week and there after. Also, you can go to the Dances with the Stars site at ABC.com and vote a multiple of times (for what they selct that week) as well the night of the show and the next morning;
Audrina and Tony – 1-800-868-3401
Kyle and Lacey – 1-800-868-3403
Rick and Cheryl – 1-800-868-3404
Margaret and Loius – 1-800-868-3405
Brandy and Maks – 1-800-868-3406
Bristol and Mark – 1-800-868-3407
Kurt and Anna – 1-800-868-3408
Florence and Corky – 1-800-868-3409
The Situation and Karina – 1-800-868-3410
Jennifer and Derek – 1-800-868-3411
Thank you for the list Voguerista, appreciate
for next week, I voted you bet I did
The scores were pretty much on target, I have to say this, but I think even if many think Florence, and Margaret were not so good, they still have more movement and had stronger dance ability then BP.
I hope the judges will continue to not allow outside influence based on their dance skills.
Sorry I feel Bristol has not shown any real talent to being a dancer, She looked pouty and I have read she made some remarks thought she had had higher scores, Sorry she was over scored, Once again.
Keep up the great run downs, its great, Yes I am a dancer who has been in competion and its hard and you have to really practice, timing and cordination, as one. I love dance
Rob, I think it’s so cool you are a dancer and I couldn’t agree with you more on Bristol (Zack is going to kill me. lol). But seriously, you are right how Flo and Margaret could dance circles around Bristol…even with the age difference. That says something in my book and that’s why she should have went home tonight. Though it seems Margaret and Louis were annoying a lot of fans out there. I don’t think it was the message of their dance so much as it was how Louis lacked in executing it and finding a way to tell it. They should have used their first dance for this one. The first dance told a better story imo.
Fine ill be nice and have mercay, Voug!!! lol! 😛
LOL!!!!! 😉
Did you notice that when they put up the voting number to call they left the notice up longer on some then others??????
Please explain
Thank you
Mark not being able to dance the way he likes and has done in the past.
Good reason, Bristol is unable to due to her
condition, which no doubt will be reveal the truth about her weight gain.
The bomb shell should hit soon, Bristol
time in DWTS is soon elimiated. She has also gave notice to her teen speaking for abesentine
DWTS has a problem called Bristol and Sarah
Palin, just disgusted with how this has been done and cover up. No wonder the other dancers feel this has been an unfair judging. I do not blame them, It has not been fair. Bristol got scores she did not deserve,
Mark is caught in this also, so no wonder he looks unhappy,
Sorry Heide, but we have to realize what is going on, I still respect all of your comments.
ITS ABOUT DANCING not to fill a wallet with deceit.
All u Bristol haters need to chill. Gosh!
LOL^ Ok, I plan to wipe the slate clean Monday night on Bristol. I dont know if I can take another week of her. But, I’m kind of curious now on how she plans to “get sexy” Monday night.lol
Oh Vouge always lighening things up! Awesome person u! lol 😛
Thanks Zach!!!!! DITTO!!! xxxx 😉
