Pure DWTS – Derek Hough Speaks Out On New Movie Role & DWTS Season 13

I will let these excerpts from People do the talkin’!!

“I’m taking season 12 off,” three-time champ Derek Hough tells PEOPLE. The Dancing pro, 25, will be busy playing the lead role in the upcoming dance movie Cobu 3D, which is slated to film in New York and Toronto this spring.

Hough will play a New Orleans street dancer who moves to New York and falls for an Asian drummer (played by Korean pop recording star BoA). The Romeo and Juliet-style love story (their dance groups are rivals) will be accented by “some incredible dance numbers,” says Hough. “People will see a much edgier side of me and these other styles of dance I’m capable of doing.”

Hough has already started training for the film by working out in the gym and brushing up on his tap dancing skills. He says he’s put on “about 10 lbs. of muscle” for the film, “which is a lot for me.”

A “more edgier” and “musclier” Derek? Sounds good to me. 😀

And Dancing fans can expect Hough to come back to the ballroom better than ever for season 13.

“I will be making it back to Dancing with the Stars in the fall. I’m just taking a little break and taking this chance to grow and expand a little bit as an artist,” Hough says. “It’s like I told one of the producers on the show – I’ll come back with a whole new set of skills.”

That is such a relief to know he will be back for Season 13 and with a ‘whole new set of skills’. I love how Derek is never afraid to learn more.

For all things Derek even more in depth and this new movie project, be sure to check Pure Derek Hough daily. To pacify us a little for now until this project is released and to see who Derek is working with, here is BoA dancing….

Heidi’s Note: For anyone interested, Cobu is a NYC dance troupe who does a fusion of Taiko Drumming and Funk Tap Dance

DWTS Season 12 Cast Rumors – Count Donna D’Errico Out, Lorenzo Lamas In?

In an earlier reporting, it appeared Donna D’Errico might have been a strong possibility to dance on Dancing With The Stars along with friend Lorenzo Lamas. AOL News is reporting today that she turned the show down. She’s decided to look for the remains of Noah’s Ark in Turkey instead. She also wants to fulfill her dream of having a cooking show.

Former “Baywatch” star Donna D’Errico has enjoyed a pretty amazing career arc.

But the 42-year-old actress, who recently turned down a spot on “Dancing With the Stars,” is now focusing on Noah’s ark.

D’Errico, 42, is in training to fulfill a lifelong dream of climbing Mount Ararat in Turkey to search for the frozen remains of Noah’s ark.

But, what about Lorenzo Lamas? Is he still a strong possibilty? Theatre Mania is reporting he showed up for the L.A premiere of “Ballroom With A Twist” pictured below. More pictures of the cast and other people in attendance at the link.

Anyway, maybe this is nothing and Lorenzo just wanted to see “Ballroom With A Twist”. Then again, maybe he’s wanting to watch as much dancing as possible (to learn as much as he can) and mingle with the potential pros who might be on Dancing With The Stars Season 12? Hmmm? I get the feeling Lorenzo is doing the show. 😀

Pure DWTS – Chelsea Hightower & Tony Dovolani At Women’s Fair In Vegas

Saturday, Tony and Chelsea made a special appearance at the “10th Annual Women’s Fair” in Las Vegas. The event took place at the South Point Hotel & Casino. Other entertainment included Thunder From Down Under, Frank Marino’s DIVAS Las Vegas, Menopause the Musical, Delgado Dance and an appearance from “All My Children”‘s Jordi Vilasuso. If you’d like to see more pictures of Tony and Chelsea, go to I Need My Fix. Are they cute or what? 🙂

For an extra bonus, here the two are dancing together in a “Blast From the Past Moment”.

Pure DWTS – Ballroom Superstars Camp and Ballroom With A Twist Candy

As reported earlier, “Ballroom With A Twist” is currently receiving some fantastic reviews and here’s yet another from LA Weekly.

One of Dancing With The Stars’ professional dancers, Louis Van Amstel, stages his own show after an illustrious 20-year career as a performer and competitive dancer. His fluidly staged, marvelously high-caliber entertainment (with a couple of also-ran American Idol singers (Gina Glocksen and David Hernandez) thrown into the mix, moves seamlessly from fast numbers to slow ballads, from dance to song and back again. Athletic bodies draped with Randall Designs’ gorgeous costumes cavort through Van Amstel’s well-orchestrated spectacle, which also celebrates diversity with its casting of various races and body shapes. Van Amstel hosts the evening, assisted by hilarious comedienne Niecy Nash (his partner from the most recent season of DWTS). She brings welcome humor when not tearing up the dance floor. The costumes are figure-hugging sexy, flowing and dazzling (with rhinestones) as well as casual and relaxed for some of the modern dance numbers. Van Amstel’s exceptional choreography feels liberated from the constraints and repetition of competitive ballroom regulations. Salsa, Paso Doble, Jitterbug, Quickstep, Waltz and Argentine Tango – Van Amstel name-checks every dance style, yet pairs each number with everything from slow ballad duets to clubby dance mixes of classic and contemporary tunes — something for everyone.

Mitsy Gaynor hosted the show on January 20th. She posted some fun photos of the night at her facebook account which you can see one photo below. Be sure to see more at the link.

Anna and Jonathan were interviewed by Ballroom Fantasy on “Ballroom With A Twist” and all of their past, current, and future projects (including personally). This is a great interview. They are so cute! I can’t embed the video. So be sure to see it >>>HERE.
I’m loving the costumes. Randall Christensen has done a good job for this show and I like his work on Dancing With The Stars for the most part too. Rachael Ray has been really critical of his work on her show. So much so, Randall sent her a letter and she apologized which you can see in the video below.

In other Ballroom news, next weekend the first Superstars of Ballroom Dance Camp will take place at the Burbank Marriott Hotel and Convention Center on Feb. 4-6th. You can take classes with your favorite pros from Dancing With The Stars. Details below with pricing and more information at Dancing and Romancing.

On Friday, the dance scene will be hot and sexy with salsa classes with Paul Barris, cha cha with Dmitry Chaplin or Elena Grinenko and rumba witih Tony Dovolani. That will get you prepared for the salsa part that evening with Angel Lebron y su Sabor Latino.

Saturday, there will be more Latin dances (samba with Dmitry Chaplin, rumba with Corky Ballas, paso doble with Tony Dovolani and tango with Elena Grinenko). Chelsie Hightower will be giving waltz lessons, and Nick Kosovich will be teaching foxtrot and Vienesse waltz. For those who want something daring, there is a lift class and a spin, dip and variation class.

Saturday evening, there will be a dinner show and party with Dovolani, Hightower, Chaplin and Cheryl Burke performing. On Sunday, it’s West Coast swing, Cuban motion, Argentine tango, Lindy hop, jive (with Kym Johnson), Bolero and East Coast swing. As you can imagine, Sunday night is a swing party! As we reported earlier, private dance lessons with Tony Dovolani and Cheryl Burke have already sold out. Corky Ballas, who trained Derek Hough, Mark Ballas and Julianne Hough has one slot left!

DWTS Season 12 Pro Watch! Derek, Maks Out??

Derek is definitely a no-go for Season 12, as Vogue mentioned in her updated post from the other day – and I’ve added video (below) from Access Hollywood to compliment Conrad Greene’s confirmation that he’s taking the season off to film Cobu 3D. As for Maks – I *think* this is still in the rumor stages. It appears from Twitter that a good number of his fans are seriously concerned that he won’t be on this season. Usually, a guy’s fans have their finger on the pulse of what is going on – so is this just fear like Derek fans have had (with good reason it turns out) for the past few seasons? Or is there something to this, maybe because of the Bachelor Ukraine?? Several DWTS watchers say this one is an unknown for the time being. I’ll go with them and say it’s a rumor, for now. I have to say, as much as Maks has the tendency to annoy me, a season sans BOTH Derek and Maks has the potential to be deadly dull. 🙂 So Maks, for me – come back. 🙂

The only other pro chatter I have seen to date, other than that mentioned above, is Louis Van Amstel. Good old Louis – always keeping his fans fully informed of what’s going on with him:

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS – Derek Lands A Movie Role & More Media On Tony, Maks, Cheryl, And Mark!

Let’s get right to it. Our top news story of the Day via Allkpop and Pure Derek Hough: Derek has landed a role in a new dancing movie called “Cobu 3D”. He will be starring with South Korean singer BoA. Here are some details…

BoA will be starring alongside Derek Hough, the champion of America’s hit reality show, ”Dancing with the Stars“. The two stars play the role of dancers who grew up in vastly different environments, and so they knock heads when they first meet at an underground New York club. Although they start off as fierce rivals, they eventually fall into a ‘Romeo and Juliet’ type of love.

Duane Adler (who’s known for his work with “Save the Last Dance” and “Step Up“) will be directing the film, and it’s being co-produced by Robert Cort, CJ Entertainment, and SM Entertainment.

“COBU 3D” aims to escape from the standard dance movies that focus on battles instead of delivering a solid storyline. The film will shed light on a beautiful love story, as well as spotlighting a variety of dance styles including tap, hip hop, and swing.

The movie is scheduled for an early 2012 release, and CJ Entertainment will be distributing it in Korea, China, and Japan. Lionsgate International will be the international sales agent, and they’re planning to begin pre-sales at the Berlin International Film Festival this February.

UPDATE (thanks to Lisa G and Heidi):: Sadly this means, Derek Hough won’t be returning for Season 12 on Dancing With The Stars. Conrad Green, executive producer for DWTS, has made this statement to Access Hollyood.

“Dancing” executive producer Conrad Green told Access they expect Derek to return to the ballroom later this year.

“We wish Derek the best as he takes time off from ‘Dancing with the Stars’ to pursue his film career and look forward to having him return to the show in the Fall,” Conrad said in a statement to Access.

BoA is pictured below in case some of you may not know who she is. More on her and her career at this link.

This is going to be fun especially for us dance movie freaks! Congradulations Derek! You can see him on the set working in this tweet.

Tony has landed a fun role in a new episode of “Are We There Yet” too. Jason Palmer tweeted a picture of the two which you can see below.

Wow, to our pros this year. They’ve had big off seasons. Same with Maks who as you know is currently filming The Bachelor in the Ukraine. Special thanks to a resident and native of Russia named Marina (via tweeters @ScibblerNY and @FLLottodreamer), we have a full English translation of Maks’ new interview from the Ukraine that we reported to you earlier. You can read it in full >>>HERE. I thought this quote was interesting. I’m dying to know, how this will effect his role on DWTS,…that is if there is one this Season?

Q: As far as I know, the indispensable condition for you is to marry after the project…

MC: No! The main thing, I need to propose: all comes to an end with a betrothal (engagement)… Whether there will be a real wedding depends on me. It happens, people change/disagree. Perhaps when I learn more about this girl, she will change, be another person. Or me. But I wouldn’t want that to happen. My decision is serious. You know, I love clever, intellectual women. It is not interesting to me to only communicate on topics of shoes, socks and glasses. Nice to talk about politics, sports, art… Then the relationship will be comfortable.

Q: Is there a marriage contract to sign?

MC: Yes, I gather. But I wouldn’t want to disclose these legal details.

Not only has Cheryl revealed how much being molested hurt her, she also has revealed how hurt she was when a tabloid published photos of her looking heavier. Here is a take from People. Be sure to pick up the new issue which hits new stands today if you’d like to read more.

Secretly, however, the two-time Dancing champ, 26, was devastated, and tried everything from nearly starving herself (“Couldn’t do it,” she says) to diet pills (“Nasty – I felt anxious and shaky).”

Ultimately, the weight came off gradually, thanks to her rigorous dance schedule and a focus on eating plenty of vegetables, avoiding preservatives, and allowing for occasional splurges.

“I love carbs and I love chips,” she says. “I’m not going to deprive myself – but instead of eating potato chips I’ll eat Triscuits or low-fat Cheez-Its.”

Lastly, we have a couple of interviews to share with Mark promoting his new album “HurtLoveBox”. The interview below was taken after his concert at the Hard Rock Cafe in Washington D.C..

From MartinGuitar, Mark discusses his musical influences, the new album, and Chelsie. Much more at the link.

Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences?
MB: I have a wide range. Growing up, there was a lot of flamenco played in my house. I love Paco de Lucía and the Gypsy Kings. So it was that kind of stuff. I’m a huge Eric Clapton fan. I think today—nowadays—I would say that John Mayer is kind of someone I really look up to, and I love his music. I love Stevie Ray Vaughn, as well… Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, so yeah, all those kind of guys.

When you first started performing, did you play a lot of cover songs, or has it always been an original thing for you?
MB: I think my first gig, I remember, was at a place called the Rugby Club in Guildford, England, and we played about half and half. It was about half our own songs and then we did some covers as well. So usually, the set was about six originals and six covers as well.

Have a sweet weekend All!! More soon! 😉 xxx

Pure DWTS – DWTS Media Tidbits For Hump Day!

Just a few things to share today! First up, Carrie Ann was interviewed about her new hour long TV drama on ABC called “Grace” by Popstop which premieres in May. “We’re going to take them [the audience] into the studio and show a little bit more about the dancer’s life”, Carrie Ann comments. This is sounding really good so far in my opinion.

Did any of you see Louis’ tweets lastnight? He tweeted he had a meeting at the CBS lot(where they film the show) and then he tweeted this…

Feb. 18th is coming right up, Guys, and hopefully, we will find out which pros will be dancing. 🙂

People.com has a new article with Cheryl up today in promotion for her new book “Dancing Lessons” being released in February. She discusses a little about being molested. Here is an excerpt from the on-line story. More in the new issue of PEOPLE on news stands Friday.

“I’m telling my story,” says Burke, 26, who opens up about the molestation – and other struggles, including physical abuse by two former boyfriends – in her new book Dancing Lessons, (coauthored by PEOPLE senior writer Monica Rizzo). “They’re not secrets. There’s no shame.”

Burke’s abuser was a retired mailman who was trusted and well liked in Burke’s Bay Area community. He would sometimes pick Burke up from school and do odd jobs around her home. The assaults began when she was 5.

After he was accused of targeting other children, Burke acknowledged her own abuse. But, still reeling from her parents’ split when she was a baby, she was wracked with confusion.

“I felt guilty for wanting his love and affection,” she says, calling testifying against him “the hardest thing I’ve ever done … I saw his face and lawyers were asking me these questions and I was like, ‘What am I doing? Did he even do anything wrong?’ ”

Eventually, with the man in prison and years of therapy, Burke came to see just how wrong her abuser was.

Now, with season 12 of DWTS beginning in March, Burke is ready to tell her story. “If I can help just one person,” she says, “for me that’s all that matters.”

There have been some new “Footloose” movie stills released at Fused Film. You can see one of them below of Julianne. More at the link.

I’m excited for this new remake. So, do you remember where you saw the original “Footloose” movie? I remember seeing it at the time of it’s release in Cheyenne, Wy. I liked it, but, not as much as Flashdance and Dirty dancing. How about you?

Ok, that is all for now. More soon!! xxx 😉

Pure DWTS – More Ballroom Twists, Rumors, Japan, Horses, and More

Monday Monday!! What’s up? We need our show back for this day, don’t we? 🙂

In a few things to share today, check out Edyta and Alec in this new “Ballroom With A Twist” interview from KTLA (posted by Edyta at her twitter).

Below is a picture of Jonathon and Anna at the “Ballroom With A Twist” Red Carpet last week. You can see pictures of Niecy, Louis, Edyta, and Alec too in cool gallery >>> HERE. They all look incredible.

“Ballroom With a Twist” is getting some great reviews. Check out this excerpt from Grigware. They are giving it 5 stars! The link is featuring some cool pics too and note how Randall Christensen (DWTS costume designer) designed the costumes.

Nash, known to TV audiences from Clean House, is one funny lady who is not afraid to go out on a limb and dances, as she did on Dancing with the Stars – not without whining – with partner, smooth Van Amstel, until she literally drops to the floor. In true diva style she takes mic in mind while still on the floor panting and motions for one of the dancers to help her to her feet. It’s a priceless moment. Van Amstel’s stamina is truly amazing! This company of dancers, in fact, all have sensational stamina and dexterity and are perhaps the prettiest group of people to be seen on a Hollywood stage. Scantily clad for many numbers, guys shirtless and gals showing plenty of leg and midriff, they create eye candy galore. It is surely not in vain that the opening song is Burt Bacharach’s “The Look of Love”, atmosphere which suits the entire sexy entourage. Featured dancers from Dancing With the Stars include: Alec Mazo, Jonathan Roberts, Edyta Sliwinska and Anna Trebunskaya, all demonstrating consistently terrific moves.

Twist shows the new spin on dancing which began with the TV show’s phenomenal presentation of the waltz, tango, merengue, samba, salsa, etc boldly executed with lots of acrobatic moves. It makes the dancers exciting – no, chilling – to watch. An added surprise in the stage show which comes in Act II is a dance lesson for and with the audience, taught by Van Amstel. Yep, folks, you’ll get up and shake your booty. If I can do it, so can you! Fun, fun, fun!

Edyta posted this picture at her twitter account of her and Alec. It was taken before the “Fever” performance with Jonathan and Anna.

So now The Mirror is really getting on my nerves again. They’ve reported that Derek has quit the show (to spend more time with Cheryl). Yeah right! I’ll believe it when I see it. When will they ever stop with all the rumors already? It’s pathetic how they won’t leave him or Cheryl alone.

BESOTTED Derek Hough is planning to quit the hit American TV show Dancing With The Stars – so he can spend more time with girlfriend Cheryl Cole.

Derek, 25, has told friends he wants to leave the US version of Strictly Come Dancing to be at Cheryl’s side when she moves to Los Angeles in the spring.

Filming for the new series, in which Derek is current champion, starts in March – the same time Cheryl, 27, is due to move to the US to start work as a judge on the American X Factor.

A friend said: “Derek is keen to move on. He has won the show three times and thinks it is time for a change. And he wants to be there to help Cheryl settle into her new life.”

In other news on Derek, not sure what’s up, but Julianne just posted this tweet while I was writing this post up which makes me wonder on the rumor from the Mirror above now? But, my bet is that Derek and Julianne won’t be away in China too long. So, what do you think this new project could be about?

Lastly, Cheryl hosted the Joe Barry Memorial Cup Finals in Florida over the weekend. Startrack has a great Gallery of her at the event you won’t want to miss seeing. Here is a picture she tweeted too. Dad, I know. I’ve made your day.

Ok, that is all for now Dancettes. Have a super day!! xxxx 😉

Pure DWTS – More Weekend DWTS Media (New Photos, Videos & More)

Hey, check out this new fun picture of Kym!! As you can see, she lit up the Australia Open on Friday. Some details below in a take from 10balls.com. (Novak Djokovic a DWTS contestant in the making maybe? How cool would that be? I’d love to see it. 😀 )

So, when Kym Johnson of ‘Dancing With The Stars’ fame – she was David Hasselhoff’s partner last season – happened to mention that she had tickets for Friday, she was asked if she wouldn’t mind bringing one of spangly frocks and maybe teaching a player a few moves. Out on Court 16. It was a match made in heaven: Kym and Novak (Novak Djokovic) strutting their stuff in the summer sunshine.

Kym put Djoko through his paces, teaching him the cha-cha-cha, while he showed off his muscles with a few lifts. Encouraged to take his shirt off by one of the photographers (and, really, it doesn’t take much to get Novak to get his kit off), he was happily swirling Kym around as if he had been practising this dancing lark for years. According to Kym, Novak is a fast learner. According to the look on Novak’s face, Kym could ask him to dance any time she liked. He even gave her a tennis lesson and Kym even managed to hit a ball or two. In a quiet week, Kym and Novak (hang on, wasn’t she a film star?) brightened up the Open nicely.

Lacey and Cheryl were in Florida this past week to help Christen the new “Disney Dream” cruise ship. Here they are visiting Pink, the ship’s “chic, champagne-inspired” lounge. I have to say I am liking Lacey’s new hair color a lot.

Also, featured below is a new professional shot of Lacey. She recently had some cool photos taken by “Cean One Photography“. You can see more of this shoot at her Twitter account.

Speaking of cool photo shoots, Peta has done an amazing spread for Brendan Vale Courture. Beautiful and I have a feeling John will love her hair. 🙂

Mark has been posting fan pictures as he tours for his new album “HurtLoveBox”. Here’s one taken of him and Chelsie at Mohegan Sun Pocono Downs on Jan. 19th (Courtesy of fan Cindy Krumpet). You can see more pics at his Facebook page.

And here they are being interviewed and dancing….

Edyta tweeted a picture of Alec, Anna, and Jonathon at a coffee shop between their two “Ballroom With A Twist” performances yesterday.

Here is Anna and Edyta before the second show.

Louis also tweeted a “cast” picture right after the show.

Thanks Louis and Edyta. As reported earlier, Ballroom With A Twist began it’s run in Los Angeles, CA. Friday night. Details and ticket information at the link.

Derek was interviewed at MSA Celebration this week. He was asked about who he’d like to see on the show. They throw out some names but he’s not sure who they are. lol

Lastly, if you’d like to read about Brooke’s take on her and Derek’s “Mirror Ball Trophey” story, go HERE to read an excerpt out of her new book “The Naked Mom”. Thanks to twitter friend @georgiagirlatl and @dwtsgossip for this tip.

Ok, more soon. Be good! 😉 xxx

DWTS – Rumors, Rumors, And Even More Rumors! Or Is It Official – Yeah Right!

Well, I have to laugh. I just ran onto this new article at The Telewatcher who claim they know some of the dance contestants for Season 12. I did a quick search for anything “official” for where they might be getting this news and there’s nothing out there…..nada…..not even a hint at some of the big names that are listed. “TOO” BIG if you ask me for this to sound realistic?? But, hey.

Courtney Cox, the actress will be dancing for our eyes this year, everyone loves Friends!

Elle Macpherson is best known as a super model to most of us, but is actually also an actress and buiseness woman.

Tina Fey, an actress from hit comedy 30 Rock will be dancing this year.

Cheryl Cole is a singer from the UK, and also judges the X Factor in England, a show which Simon Cowell has just set up in America.

Vince Vaughn is a great actor that most of us should know!

Rob Lowe is an american actor who’s been in things such as ‘Waynes World’ and ‘The Outsiders’, and actually look’s a bit like Zac Efron!

And if that wasn’t bad enough, Associated Content recycled what the Telewatcher wrote with an exception they are adding even more to the list. See below.

…Cher’s name has been mentioned, also. The hype is not in yet as to who the others may be definitely. Other suggestions have been Alec Baldwin, Al Yankovich, Cynthia Ann Nixon, and even Dr. Phil. It is hard to believe that Cher would consider doing the show, with all of her other accomplishments such as her choreographed numbers for her shows.

Wait! They forgot Madonna and Brad Pitt. 😯 I’m sorry, but, I can’t see Cher doing the show either not that I wouldn’t love that possibility.

Heidi: I told Vogue that if she was going to post this she had to mock. She did a great job, I’m thinking. 🙂 Let’s be real here – does anyone believe that ANYONE on this list other than Cheryl Cole is even remotely likely to be on Season 12?? Of course, if it turns out to be true we will look like idiots – but that’s a risk I’m willing to take. 🙂 Now, Al?? That has some potential.

What about the possibilty of political guru, AL SHARPTON? Thanks to Pure DWTS reader Maddy for this heads up from the New York Post.

GOOD dancer Al Sharpton, so publicity shy, might forsake even another story about him to be on “Dancing With the Stars” . . .

Ewww, not sure on Al. I have a feeling I wouldn’t know whether to laugh or cry watching him if this were true? lol

Ok, so my head is spinning. 😉 xxx
