DWTS 2011 – Dancing With The Stars TV Ratings for April 11 – 17th
Nielsen has complied the top 20 TV shows on Primetime and their viewership statistics for April 11-17th. Below is how Dancing With The Stars scored last week. Note how NCIS beat the results show out. My new favorite show “Body Of Proof” continues to hang tough. Do you see your other favorite shows on this list? (Heidi’s Note: There was a comment on Twitter – that I haven’t verified yet – that this past week’s DWTS was the lowest rated spring episode in the key demographics in quite a long time, maybe ever. Can’t be sure, because I haven’t looked it up. I can see, just from looking at the numbers, that the totals are off over previous Spring seasons as well. I will have to go back and do some research, but I do know that the middle of the season slumps in the total numbers – but I don’t remember it being this low. Of course, AI’s number seem to be the same as last spring – and DWTS was regularly beating them. Not so now. Cause? Anyone? Maybe a true ringer bringing stellar dancing does add something to the show? Or do people just consider this cast boring? Or did DWTS break the age old rule one time too often – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.)

I don’t know what it is, Heidi, but I do loved this cast.
But these theme weeks… (¬_¬”)
I can’t decide if Idol being on top is because Idol has gotten better, DWTS has gotten worse, or a combo of both – since I’m not watching Idol this season, I can’t really be sure. But it wouldn’t surprise me if
“American Night”-mare was a total ratings flop – believe me, I wanted to turn it off after the first dance. I imagine a less dedicated viewer would have written it off immediately and flipped over to House or Hawaii 5-0.
Idol has gotten better – last season was very lackluster all around. The talent is much better than last season, that’s for sure. And a lot of people are tuning in to see J-Lo and Steven Tyler. So I’m really not surprised that they are on top. As for DWTS viewers changing the channel on “American Night”, I’m not buying it. Regular viewers will have sat through it, half or more of them not realising how ridiculous it was and the other half not caring. They just want to see their stars and their pros. And honestly, 2 out of the top 5 shows? That ain’t too shoddy!
No matter what Idol has done (I’m not talking about placement in the top 10, I’m talking numbers of viewers which is more important), DWTS is still showing what I think is about a 10 percent decline in total viewers. That is a relatively big deal, if it continues. I’m going to actually research it this weekend (if I have time and I get my part of the cheesecake done) to see what kind of decline we are talking about. It will also take a few weeks before we can determine if it is real or not – one week doesn’t really matter that much, in the grand scheme of things. Since it doesn’t DIRECTLY compete with Idol (that is, it’s not on at the same time), Idol being good doesn’t really affect DWTS viewers.
The “order” in the top 10 doesn’t really matter, if the number of viewers (total and in the key demo) are holding up. Without researching it, it doesn’t appear that they are. I’ll be writing further on the subject. 🙂 You have to also consider viewer attrition – we are on season 12, which is incredibly long running for any TV show. Sooner or later it’s going to start to slip.
There are alot of my favorite shows on there. I usually watch them DVR though. Is that taken into account?
I think for the first time, they are taking into account delayed viewing of the programs – ie. watching on DVR. I read that in one of several articles on ratings.
Soap fans started boycotting all ABC shows except the 3 soaps, this week, after ABC announced the cancellation of All My Children and One Life to Live. DWTS is at the top of the list.
