Dancing With The Stars & Strictly Come Dancing Judge Len Goodman Speaks Out About Dancing Liaisons

Express.co.uk has an article up of Len discussing ballroom relationships. He says they aren’t exactly concrete or built on the best foundations. Such was the case with his first partner Cherry. I’m not sure whether that’s exactly true though. For example, look at Edyta and Alec or Anna and Jonathan. Those two dancing couples seem very happy and have good foundations. Read more below and tell us whether you agree or not?

Speaking about such dancing liaisons, Len told BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs: “They’re not really built on anything concrete, are they? They are built on ballroom, which is not the best foundations.

Len, who married his then dance partner Cherry Kingston in 1972, admitted that once the dancing was over, so was the relationship.

“For how long we danced together, we did well,” said Len, 67. “When you dance professionally you are together all the time.

“In my case with Cherry, I looked across the table at her and she looked at me and thought, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing with him, we’ve got nothing in common’. So we went our separate ways.” Len had a son, James, with second partner Lesley, and is now with Sue, who is 30 years his junior.

“We grew apart,” he explained. “The common denominator is probably me, so it was probably more my fault.”

Dancing With The Stars Kym Johnson And Dmitry Chaplin Light Up The Mohegan Sun

Last night, Kym Johnson and Dmitry Chaplin gave a free dance for some lucky fans at the Mohegan Sun. Gina Scarpa (pictured above with the two dancers) of Reality Wanted sat down with an exclusive interview with the two before they danced. She asks them what they’ve been doing in the off season and how they feel on becoming celebrities in their own right. She also ask them on their favorite styles to dance (I’m not surprised how they answered this, are you? 🙂 ). This and much more below and at the link.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What do you both do during the off season, when you’re not on Dancing With The Stars?
A. Kym: At the moment, we’ve been doing a lot of shows around America. We just came from Florda, San Francisco, I’m going somewhere else tomorrow… we’ve been very busy. I’m hoping to enjoy some of the summer here in America and have some time off soon.
A. Dmitry: Everybody’s teaching. We’ve been dancing. We’re dancers. That’s what we do best. I’m going to be choreographing for So You Think You Can Dance this summer. Louis [van Amstel] will be choreographing as well.
A. Kym: Yeah, we teach and we do shows. We’re always keeping really busy.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You guys are becoming celebrities in your own right. Do people recognize you when you’re out?
A. Kym: Yeah, especially when the season has just been on. The show is so popular and I think that this was the most watched season ever. It’s incredible that we’ve been on for so many seasons…
A. Dmitry: Well, you have!
A. Kym: The fans just love the show. Some of the die hard fans have watched it since day one.
A. Dmitry: Oh yeah. Some of them record every episode and have like, a library of every season. They know exactly what happend five seasons ago.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What will you guys be doing tonight?
A. Kym: We’re going to do three dances. We’ve danced together quite a bit.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Is there a style that you prefer to dance?
A. Kym: He likes more of the Latin stuff.
A. Dmitry: Well, I’m more Latin trained.
A. Kym: I like more the Ballroom stuff. Tonight, we’re doing a tango, cha-cha, and rumba.

Dancing With The Stars Pros Dance For Hospice In Pensacola, Florida

The pros of Dancing With The Stars are certainly having a busy summer so far. Such is true for Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani, Val Chmerkovskiy, Dasha Chesnokova and Lacy Schwimmer. This week the three took off for Pensacola, Florida to dance and attend the third annual “Life’s a Dance” benefitting Covenant Hospice which took place at the Pensacola Saenger Theater. According to pnj.com, last year’s event raised $58,000. No doubt this years benefit raised the same amount of money if not more?

What’s more, following the show, VIP ticket holders were invited to an exclusive casting party that took place place in the Saenger’s mezzanine and ballroom, where they ate, drank and mingled with the stars. All three dancers tweeted how much fun they had at the benefit. Below are some videos of Tony and Lacey dancing;

You can view a few more videos of the event HERE including one of Maks joking with the crowd.

Lacey posted this picture of Tony and Maks at her twitter while in Florida of the two funning around.

Special Note: This isn’t the first time our pros have danced for this Benefit. In 2009, Derek Hough and Mark Ballas danced. You can read a cool fan story on them at Pure Derek Hough at this link.

Are our Dancing With The Stars pros the coolest or what?!! 🙂

Dancing With The Stars Spends Time With The Troops In Germany

This past week, Dancing With The Stars pros Peta Murgatroyd, Tristan MacManus, and Chelsie Hightower travelled to Germany for the USP Tour to spend some time with the troops. Peta wrote that she had fun learning on the history of Germany. “Our first meeting with the troops today was amazing, sitting and eating with them, hearing their stories, was so heart wrenching”, Peta wrote of their first meeting. Peta also wrote that they are “truly unbelievable people” and “we cannot thank them enough!!!” Chelsie tweeted that Germany was “amazing” and it was “awesome to meet the troops and to see what they do on a “day to day” basis. The troops were so appreciative. In fact, one of the troops (I believe it’s one of the troops or someone else they met?) tweeted this touching line to Peta after they left.

https://twitter.com/#!/PetaMurgatroyd/status/80980585316749313

Adding: Thanks to PureDWTS reader Rory, here is some cool video coverage of the event.

So cool! I’m so glad they went! I bet they brought many smiles, relief, and comfort to them away from the front lines and their tour of duty!

If you’d like to see more pics like the pics above, be sure to visit Peta’s facebook page. They are amazing!!

Dance of the Day…. Let’s compare Emmitt and Apolo!

So, we’re going to continue comparing our Dancing of the Stars Champions, pitting two of them against the other using the first dance they did. We have 12 seasons, so we have a few more days (at least, haha). So last, we had Season 1 champ Kelly vs Season 2 champ Drew which you can see here. You can continue to vote which dance you prefer, Kelly or Drew.

Today, we will turn our attention to Season 3 Champ Emmitt Smith and Season 4 Champ Apolo Anton Ohno. Upcoming will see Helio vs Kristy, Brooke vs Shawn, Donny vs Nicole, Jennifer vs Hines. And at the end of our Champion Comparisons, I’m thinking of creating one mega post, pitting the 6 winners against each other using their Week 5 dance. Ultimately, only one can be DOD Champion, and we’ll post the final winner’s Freestyle. I could make this series go longer, but I do want to begin to focus on other things to feature in our Dance of the Day, such as favorite rumbas or quickstep or theme dance, randomly chosen, or dances requested in the comments.

It’s Emmitt and Apolo Day!!

SEASON 3: Emmitt Smith is a football player, and Carrie Ann’s original “Twinkle Toes.” His professional partner was Cheryl Burke, in her second season on the show. Season 3 was the first season I saw, and I’ve been hooked on the show since. Emmitt’s win made Cheryl the FIRST Professional dancer on DWTS to have 2 wins, and the first back to back winner.

SEASON 4: Apolo Anton Ohno is a speed skater, and a multiple Olympic gold medal winner. At the time he competed in DWTS, he was also actively training and racing in World Class speed skating, and he had to fit training for DWTS into his already hectic schedule for his speed skating. His professional partner was Julianne Hough in her first season of the show, she was 18 years old, the youngest professional dancer on the show. (She still holds that title, since Chelsie Hightower was 19 yo when she started on the show)

Without further ado, here’s our Champions in their first week

Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke performed a cha cha on Week 1 to “Son of a Preacher Man” by Dusty Springfield.

Apolo Anton Ohno and Julianne Hough performed a cha cha on Week 1 to “Let’s Hear It For the Boy” by Deniece Williams

Again, we’ll take a Poll… Which dance did you prefer, Emmitt or Apolo? Tell us why in the comments!

DWTS Search Engine Round-Up – Week of June 17, 2011

Oh you crazy kids and the things that get you searching 😉 Seriously – I still scratch my head every week when perusing the search terms for the site…I have to wonder how exactly Google brought you here to answer some of these quirky queries…but alas, I feel obligated to answer nonetheless.  I should start calling this feature “Ask Courtney”…

Ted Volynets

This has easily become the most searched term since the show wrapped – far more hits than any of the other troupe members.  Apparently Teddy’s got some of you ladies feenin’ 😉 Unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot of info about Ted out on the net…but here’s the best dossier I can give you.  He’s a senior at NYU (economics major), he’s likely 21 or 22, he’s Jewish, he & his sister both trained at Maks’ studio, he’s bff with Val, and has appeared as a Latin dance coach on MTV’s Made and has also appeared on Real Housewives of New JerseyHe also likes really small sweaters.  Ok, I may have been drawing my own conclusions on that last one 😉 Anywho – for a better glimpse into the life & times of Teddy V., you might check out his Facebook page or follow him on Twitter

Bachelor Ukraine naked video

Ok, I admit it: I was only kinda half-paying attention when some of the Maksettes were Twittering away about this last week.   I like Maks & all, but I’m just not passionate enough to sit through entire episodes of Bachelor Ukraine when they’re completely in Russian, and I simply don’t have the patience for Google translate.  So thankfully, the Maksettes on my Twitter timeline were able to fill me in when I was begging for info last night so I could relay the message to you guys 😀 Special thanks to Maria (@MariaNiwiwiN) and Marlene (@marleneb4) for sending me some links I was too lazy & uninformed to find myself 😉 I’m afraid the story isn’t as salacious as this search term would suggest – basically, Maks mooned the production crew a few times while filming, and it ended up on the gag reel they showed on the “After the Final Rose” post-show for Bachelor UK.  Here’s a still of it (I have to give a shoutout to Tracy – @FLLottoDreamer – for having the most comprehensive DWTS picture gallery I’ve ever seen on the net…she’s got season 12 AND Bachelor UK on lock!), as well as a YouTube video of the gag reel – a short montage of Maks’ great continental divide is visible at 3:25, but I recommend watching the whole video, as it’s got some priceless footage of Maks engaging in some tomfoolery we’re not used to seeing from him.  It’s funny in any language, trust me 🙂

Will there be a DWTS tour in 2011?

No official word yet, but it seems doubtful, considering there hasn’t been one since the last one wrapped in early 2009Derek mentioned last fall that there might be one in the winter of 2010…and clearly, that didn’t happen. I think it’s likely quite a bit harder for them to do a tour now than it was 3 years ago, with so many of the popular pros busy with movies, music, and other ventures in the off-season – plus the celebs themselves seem to be of a higher caliber now than the first few seasons of the show, so the possibility of getting someone as famous as Kirstie or Nicole to go out on tour is not very good…plus the cost would likely be exorbitant.  And honestly, I’m not sure that the tour was ever super-profitable in the first place…I went to the one in Indy back in 2009, had pretty good seats, and didn’t pay much for my tickets (in comparison to, say, the ridiculous amount of money I’m gonna plunk down to see NKOTBSB :-D)…and the arena was maybe a little more than half-full.  If you’ve got fairly famous celebs and nearly-equally famous pros to pay and you aren’t selling out arenas – I don’t know how this could be a profitable venture.  You know what they say…if it don’t make dolla$, it don’t make sense.

What color necktie does Pitbull wear in the “Give me Everything” video with Ne-Yo?

It appears to be red.  More specfically, a shade of cranberry.

Shantel Vansanten Cabo

The One Tree Hill actress was in Cabo San Lucas at the same time Louis, Jonathan, Anna, and Dmitry were there doing a wrap party and also a little vacationing.  Greg Louganis was also there, which I find interesting, considering he’s been trying to get on the show for a few seasons now…then again, maybe Cabo is just a popular spot for celebs to go & play, and his being there was pure happenstance. 🙂

Best ballroom dance for “Addicted to Love”

If you’re going with the original Robert Palmer version, I’d go with a cha-cha.  But if you’re using the Florence + the Machine version, which is much slower & sexier, I’d do a rumba to it.  It’s not ballroom, but SYTYCD season 7 contestant Adechike did a contemporary routine with all-star Kathryn to the latter version – quite sexy.  And here’s your little ballroom trivia tidbit for the day, kiddies: slow down any song with a cha-cha tempo and you can do a rumba to it.  Both are in 4/4 time with a break on the 2.  </smartypants> 🙂

Edyta bulge/Anna Trebunskaya cameltoe/Derek Hough topless/Zac Hanson shirtless/etc.

Ok, now I’m CONVINCED that you guys are just being cheeky and searching random, absurd stuff in order to get here 🙂 Not sure what type of bulge you’re referring to, since I’m fairly certain Edyta is a girl; and I’m not even going to entertain the Anna one, because I love her too much.  Once again, any requests for pix of various parts of Derek’s anatomy (pinky fingers, elbows, that hangy thing in the back of your throat, etc.) should be directed to Pure Derek Hough; and as for Zac…oh what the hell, I’ll humor you 🙂 After all, 13 years ago I was screeching over them along with all the other teenyboppers…glad I grew out of that phase.  Then again, “grab Donnie Wahlberg’s ass” is still on my bucket list…

PSSST! Have you gotten your votes in for our End-of-Season Awards yet? Time is running out…let us know what you think! 🙂

Another DWTS Pro Branches Out….Lacey Schwimmer

I really think that if the Producers want to keep the Pros we still have, they need to figure out how to allow them time to grow and to grow, and expand, and to pursue their careers in directions other than simply Dancing With The Stars.

One by one, or more than one by one, we find the Pros branching out, and expanding, and going in more directions.

We know Julianne Hough…. She went into Country Music, released one album, and has another album completely finished, and ready for when she has time to devote to promote it the way it should be. Meanwhile, she had a (minor) part in Burlesque, is the lead Ariel in Footloose, which will be released in October, and is currently working on filming Rock of Ages, where she is playing the lead of Sherrie.

And, we know that Derek Hough also went into music, he and Mark had their band, Ballas Hough Band, which produced an album. Due to circumstances I don’t know and won’t talk about here, things didn’t seem to work out with the band. And, Derek focused on dance and choreography, and has been featured in (and choreographed) more than one music video or dance for TV, recently for his former gf, Cheryl Cole.
And, Derek was absent for Season 12, since he was preparing for, and filming, his feature film. He has the LEAD MALE ROLE of Donny in the Musical/Dance film Cobu 3D.

As I mentioned, Mark Ballas began the band, Ballas Hough Band with Derek, but the way things worked, Mark ended up focusing on his solo music career, and he is serious about it. His album is called HurtLoveBox, and is out NOW.

We have pros, like Tony, who have been in movies (some pretty recently, but i don’t have more information at this time). We have pros such as Maks and Cheryl who have opened studios. And Tony has joined Maks as a partner. We have several pros who have released exercise DVDs. We have professional choreographers who have choreographed Ballroom With A Twist, and SYTYCD, and shows on Vegas, and…. And, we have at least one author in the group!

Lacey Schwimmer is the latest one to add her name into the MUSICIAN bracket, her first single, Love Soundz, will be released on June 21 on iTunes, and was debuted on June 16th on Ryan Seacrests radio show.

While she wasn’t ON the show, he did talk about the conversation he had with her, which led me to make the further realization that Julianne (who happens to be friends with Lacey) will never be back…. Ryan asked his favorite question that he loves to ask those who visit his radio show from DWTS. I think he needs to trust his girlfriend.

The full text, and the audio of Lacey’s song, can be found here.

Here’s some of what she says…

Lacey says “Singing has been her other musical passion since she was a kid and it’s ‘crazy’ that she is finally getting a chance to do both.”

Now, more importantly were there any hook ups on “Dancing with The Stars” that Lacey could reveal to us? Lacey confirmed that there were a few secret liaisons that she knew about.

“It’s hard not to get it on with all that bumpin’ n’ grindin’ 24/7″ Lacey explained, but didn’t say who “Because I don’t want to get in any trouble.”

Click the link above to listen to Lacey’s new song. Personally, I don’t care for it, and I am trying to keep an open mind about it, but I can’t. It feels very processed, and canned…. And, the song itself? My kids range in age from almost 7yo, to 20yo, and I don’t think I want my kids to listen to it. I know my oldest won’t listen to it, since he is into different music, but this is one song i WON’T be guiding my 17yo daughter toward. And as a person, I do like Lacey.

Dancing With The Stars Mark Ballas Gives Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries Dance Lessons

This past week, Mark and Kim Kardashian were reunited once again. This time Kim asked Mark to give her and her fiance, Kris Humphries, private ballroom dancing lessons. Kim and Kris were taking lessons to prepare for their upcoming wedding this weekend. Above is a picture of Mark and Kim stepping out of the studios afterwards. Note in the take below from Celebuzz, how Kim met Mark and his “girlfriend Pia Toscono” for dinner also this week. So, are those two dating or not? I’m starting to think so. Something is going on there? You can see more pictures of Kim and her fiance at the link. Kris is a cutie! 🙂

Kim, 30, reached out to her former Dancing with the Stars dance partner Mark Ballas to help teach her and her fiance some ballroom dancing moves. The pair were clearly happy with Mark’s dance lesson as they invited him out to a bakery following the private session.

The reality star looked chic (per usual) in white skinny jeans and a flow-y beige top. Kim accessorized her look with some tan not-dance-friendly Christian Louboutin platform stilettos and a custom neon yellow Hermes Birkin bag. Kris and Mark, meanwhile, looked more dance lesson-ready in t-shirts and jeans.

Kim blogged about hanging out with Mark and his American Idol girlfriend Pia Toscono on her official Celebuzz blog. “I went to Katsuya on Monday night for a fun dinner with Mark, Mark’s girlfriend Pia from American Idol,” Kim wrote earlier this week. “So good to catch up!” And, apparently, plan private wedding dance lessons!

Heidi: So, is “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” filming right now?? Just sayin’. 🙂

Adding: Below is Mark and Pia dining out this week dressed to the nines. Along with being nervous to look too cozy with Pia (and vice versa 🙂 ), he’s asked about Kim’s wedding too, but, won’t disclose anything.
