DWTS 13 Elisabetta Canalis Addresses Romance Rumors With Val Chmerkovskiy
It seems there is always some media outlet out there trying to make it look like some of the pairs have something romantic going on. Well, this Season is no different. Yesterday, Elisabetta stopped by the E-Online studios. Below is how she reacted when they asked about her about romance rumors with Val! She was quick to point out they only have dancing on their minds and that Val is very focused. I like how she says he’s a “tough Russian guy”. 🙂
“This question really makes me laugh,” Canalis told us earlier today during a visit to E! News when asked about pending romance rumors. “Val really is very focused on what we are doing. He’s not focusing on anything else…He’s a tough Russian guy.”
But how is their chemistry as a dancing duo?
“It’s not a chemistry, it’s a big barrier,” she laughed. “We don’t know each other, so we are knowing each other dancing.”
As for if there’s a special guy in her life at the moment, Canalis says, “No, I’m dating nobody. I live alone with my two dogs in my apartment and I’m super happy. I’m a very independent person. I love living alone.”
She talks more about dancing below. Her accent is beautiful!
Dang, who had 35 seconds in the pool on show-mances?
I like Elisabetta in this interview – she seems very straightforward and matter-of-fact. She’s not yet learned (and I hope she never does) to play the Hollywood teasing/rumor game. She just said straight up that all she wants from Val right now is to learn to dance! But seriously, I don’t think it would be good for Val on this first time as a pro on DWTS to get involved in a showmance. It wouldn’t look very professional and could prevent people from taking him seriously. He needs to prove he’s a good DWTS-pro and good choreographer (everyone already knows he’s a good dancer), and that he knows how to make his partner competitive (so that celebs in other seasons will ask for him – that’s the best way to keep a job each season – unfortunately, no one probably asked for Louis or Chelsie(?) this season). So I’m glad to hear that neither Elisabetta nor Val is cruising for showmance either for personal or professional gain.
@Magnolia, LMAO!! Didn’t Elisabetta and Val only meet last week? I guess that’s long enough for the media and/or ‘fans’ to start the showmance rumor campaign. Wonder how long the showmance rumors will take for Kristen and Mark and Hope and Maks.
Already? These guys are fast… =/
I think she is hard to understand and I think that may be an unfortunate setback for Val and Elisabetta. Unless they light up the dance floor, I dont see them sticking around very long.
I mean, I realize when there’s chemistry there’s chemistry, and sometimes you can’t help how you feel or who you feel it for. But @Deena’s right. They just met last week for heaven’s sake!
Sometimes the media makes me roll my eyes. Other times, like this, I just laugh!
It might come true later, who knows? But I doubt those two (or any of them) have moved that fast.
Come on!!.. I feel sad that Elisabetta said that she thinks she won’t win.. The show hasn’t even started and she’s already with the “wrong” attitude.. She’s supposed to be excited, and hoping that she can make it all the way, but I didn’t see that in this interview.. If I were Val, I’d kill her!
@mbarbaroja, Don’t be so hard on Elisabetta. Keep in mind she’s not fluent in English and cultural differences could also be involved. In the US, we expect people to be brash and super self-confident and say “yah, I’m gonna take this thing.” In many other cultures that kind of braggadocio is considered unseemly. There it’s more appropriate to respond modestly (even if it’s false modesty) and say you “hope” you’ll win, which I believe she did say. I thought she was charming. However, I worry that she and Val won’t have enough of a fan base to survive the first couple eliminations.
@cidra I didn’t mean to be hard on her, it’s just that it’s disappointing that she doesn’t trust in herself , however, as you said, since Elisabetta and Val aren’t quite popular and don’t have enough of a fan base, in my opinion, they need to express confidence in order for people to vote for them, I know Val can do it, since he’s a pro, and he’s been dancing for years, but this is the first interview I’ve seen of her, and she just didn’t convince me to vote for her in any way (and I haven’t even seen her dancing).. I mean, if she doesn’t trust in herself, how would I, or anyone else, trust in her.. She’s beautiful and charming, and as Giuliana said, everyone is rooting for her, so she needs to raise her confidence level.. I’d like to see her going far in the show..
PS: As for the Language or cultural barriers, I think it doesn’t have anything to do, look at Petra Nemcova, and what an amazing job she did last season..
And I don’t recall Petra being all that braggadocious ..unless encouraged by Dmitry. It is a cultural thing .. having lived in Europe for 8 years, I agree with Cidra. In Latin cultures, it’s even more unseemly for women to be that over the top confident. Often it’s considered an insult to your competitors. The language barrier – her accent is indeed charming – will be a problem, however. Petra had a better mastery of English. Elisabetta will need to not only charm us, the audience, she’s going to need to communicate well with Val if they are to work together learning these dances, especially if she survives the initial weeks when they will only have 1 week to practice each routine.
I wonder what she and George talked about ?
Were I Elisabetta and had just broken up with George Clooney after dating for 2 years….I don’t think I’d find Val to be quite that interesting.
I’m sure Val is a nice person and all of that…but just not quite in the same league as she was used to.
I’m not trying to say anything bad about Elisabetta or Val but he just isn’t George…financially or otherwise.
Heh – have to agree with you there, Patti. He is GEORGE CLOONEY after all. Yowza. A whole other league.
LOL you guys re George C.! I agree that Elisabetta’s response was due to a cultural difference. Even in Canada, we would be more apt to say something like,”Well I’m certainly going to give it my all,” instead of declaring with great enthusiasm that we were going to win. Different strokes for different folks. It’s what makes the world interesting!
@Linde
I’m sorry, but I disagree.. I’m writing to you from Maracaibo, Venezuela.. and I can assure you that every latin women are super confident.. you can see what I mean in all those Miss “Something” Pageants for example.. Anyway, the thing is that no matter what cultural backgrounds you have, when it comes to competitions, specially in tv, you should at least fake a smile, and look confident, ’cause you have to convince an audience to do something; and that was something I didn’t see there, she just looked down and said “I don’t think so”..
Oh, I don’t know….. I think a little humility is an endearing thing. For me, part of the allure is how real a celebrity seems, and from the interview, and the hilarious picture posted here on PureDWTS, Elisabetta seems charming. That being said, from what I’ve seen on Twitter, though, she and Val are failing miserably in getting any kind of a fan base mobilized, and I think that’s going to hurt them.
@mbarbaroja Let’s see how she does the next time we get an interview with her. Maybe she was having an off day. I do completely agree that she and Val need to use every opportunity to convince fans to vote for them.
@Sally It worries me a bit that they’re not making much headway on Twitter, but hopefully if they’re impressive in Week 1, that will change.
“he is very CUTE, but i want to LEARN” ~elizabetta
yeeeeeeeeeeahhh!! i love her answer when she was asked about the romance rumors. you can tell she is taking this seriously. i think i might vote for her.
I thought she was adorable in that interview! She seems nice. I can’t wait to see how she does.
Val has never been a huge tweeter. I’ve been following him for awhile and he doesn’t tweet constantly or to the extent that say Maks and Mark do. I don’t follow Elisabetta but I think she’s the same way. Not to mention she would need to tweet in English and I’m sure that factors in. However, they do need to change that & how they interact with fans.
