DWTS Season 13, Week 2 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Week 2 already and we have the Quickstep and the Jive.  Whoever had Cha Cha last week has Quickstep this week and whoever did V. Waltz last week has Jive this week.  I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m scared for Chynna, Hope and Ricki doing Jive.  Chynna and Ricki are older and both have issues that might make them have trouble with this dance; Chynna is tall and long limbed and sometimes the Jive doesn’t come off so well and Ricki is shorter but may have stamina issues. Hope is so gangly and athletic; it was well disguised in the V. Waltz, but I don’t know about this one. It will really require that she let go. I don’t think Rob will do that well at it either. Quickstep?? Hmmm…should be interesting. It *should* favor Kristin and Elisabetta – and the latter needs the help. The rest?? Could go either way, I think.

ETA: Thanks to our readers for their help with this last dance order update!

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Random Photo Round-Up

Below are just a few random pictures floating around Facebook and Twitter this past week of some of the cast of Dancing With The Stars Season 13. Hopefully, there are a few here you haven’t seen yet like myself.

Peta and Karina at a “Get Lucky for Lupus LA” Celebrity Poker fundraiser;

Derek, J.R., and Karina in a birthday shot for Ricki during rehearsals. Cupcake anyone?

Derek, Maks, and Val having some pizza after rehearsals one night at Joe’s Pizza;

Just a fun moment with Nancy and Tristan. She commented at twitter this week that having twins was easier than learning the quickstep. LOL;

Another birthday shot. This time of Ricki and Oksana. What is Ricki drinking? I’ll have what she’s having! 😀

Last, but, not least,….Maks putting ‘a move’ on Carson in the make-up Trailer right before our very eyes. :mrgreen:

LOL! And that makes it a wrap for now! 😉

DWTS13 Week 1 – The Cheesecake Awards!

Finally! Here are the cheesecake awards!!  The first one of the season – we hope you enjoy.  🙂  They take a bit longer when you spend a lot of time cackling over screencaps. 😉

The Pottymouth Award: Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Courtney: Is it just me, or has Maks really developed an affinity for obscenity this season? 🙂 His package with Hope was littered with beeps.  Not that I’m complaining – sometimes I wish the show were a bit less PC and bit more…interesting.  And Maks cussing is kinda cool & hip…like a Russian Tarantino movie or something.  He’s Vikcent Vegavich.  Somebody get him a Royale with cheese and a glock…or maybe a Tokarev.

Heidi: Maybe he’s lost all Hope.  :::snicker::: Yeah, I used up all my good jokes on our other little project…the one with all the pictures. 🙂  Seriously, what does it say about me that I didn’t notice the swearing? 🙂

WTF? Costuming Award, Female: Cheryl Burke; (dis)honorable mention – Karina Smirnoff (for hair/makeup)

Courtney: It’s bad enough that you’re dancing to a song about Lake Michigan, Cheryl – why confuse us even further by wearing a dress that’s part bad Elvis tribute, part Xanadu, and part Liberace? The whole thing was just visually…baffling. Although the little arrows around the neckline pointing down did lead the way to the “business” area of the dress.  As for Karina – lovely, feminine, flowy pastel dress…with bright red Marilyn Monroe lipstick and a severe top-of-the-head school marm bun? Total disconnect there….did they have to change her dress at the last minute? I doubt it.  Is she trying to distract people from staring at JR’s injuries? Because he seems pretty comfortable with them (and joking about them!).  Who knows…but makeup department, please put her on red lipstick suspension until she can prove she deserves it!

Heidi: I think Karina can wear the really red lips…just not with that outfit and that hair.  Too much contrast…like my TV got out of wack or something. As for Cheryl – Chaz totally called it with the Elvis comment. What was she thinking?? If not for the cut down the front, it was like…an old lady ballroom dress or something.  You know, when your crazy grandma wears some wackass thing such that you don’t want to be seen in public with her.  Like…an old lady in a motor cycle jacket and leather pants….or…I dunno.  The whole thing has just thrown me off completely. 🙂  It makes me go all ageist and confused.

Courtney: It was a pair of shoulder pads and some clip-on earrings short of something my granny would have worn to the bingo hall on charity night….along with her matching “I <3 Bingo” hat & fanny pack (true story).   Read more..

Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.

DWTS 2011 J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff Talk About Their Upcoming Jive And More (Videos)

Access Hollywood goes into J.R. and Karina’s rehearsals to talk to them about their upcoming Jive and how the kick is a challenge. J.R. also talks of his tattoo and what is significant about the date and time. Apparently, a cheap watch at the time of his injury in Iraq saved him from getting burned in that spot. Fascinating and inspirational as always!

DWTS Catching Up With Anna Trebunskaya And Carson Kressley (Videos, Photos)

On Wednesday, our beautiful Anna along with more than 30 women gathered at the You Can Dance Studio in Hermosa Beach, CA to dance for Breast Cancer Awareness. The dancing event, titled “Bust a Move”, kicked off Torrance Memorial Medical Center’s new low-cost mammogram program to promote early detection and treatment of breast cancer which you can read more about here. Anna is so giving of her time as always!!

In other news on Anna, stay tuned for a new stunning spread in the next issue of Regard Magazine. You can see a little preview (2 pics) for what’s to come at this link.

As for Anna and Carson, NY1 interviewed the two in New York. I can’t embed it, but, you can watch it here. They review last week’s dance and show them in rehearsals. Be sure to watch the end for how he pleads for votes in New York. He’s a hoot!! 😀

If that’s not enough of Carson for ya. Below is a photo from a new spread he did for Shoe Dazzle. Check out these shoes! My heart is totally RACING! :mrgreen:

Ricki Lake On The Perks Of Dancing On Dancing With The Stars

Like Nancy Grace, Ricki Lake attended Variety’s Third Annual Power of Women Luncheon in Beverly Hills on Friday. Ricki told Access Hollywood she is covered from head to toe with bruises, but, she is enjoying every moment on Dancing With The Stars and is not complaining. She’s also thrilled about another effect which we’ll let you read on below. Picture above from a new hot gallery of Ricki and Derek at Pure Derek Hough. A MUST SEE if you haven’t seen it yet!!! 🙂

“I’m loving every minute of it – I’m not complaining,” she quickly clarified. “I really feel like it’s the opportunity of a lifetime, and I’m making the most of it and just having a blast!”

In addition to having fun, Ricki, 43, is thrilled with another “Dancing” side effect – shedding extra pounds.

“I’m dropping weight. I mean, it’s understandable – you work out five hours a day non-stop, you’re going to lose weight, but it’s really amazing!” Ricki, who said she lost a total of 8.5 inches after just two weeks of dancing, told Access. “That’s one of the perks.”

As for which of her fellow “DWTS” Season 13 competitors will be the most challenging to beat, Ricki revealed she has her eye on three celebrity dancers in particular.

“Chynna [Phillips] was amazing, J.R. [Martinez] is incredible, David Arquette is so lovable,” she said. “All of them are really special in their own right.”

Nancy Grace Dishes On Last Week’s Dance And Upcoming Quickstep on Dancing With The Stars (Videos)

E Online caught with Nancy at the Variety and L’Oréal’s Power of Women Luncheon in Beverly Hills yesterday!! About dancing on Dancing With The Stars, she told them her feet are hurt, but, not to the extent that she’s had to quit practicing. She’s also lost 10 pounds so far and is planning to embrace a whole other side of herself from the neck down. Read more below for what she means….

“I think that nobody’s ever seen me in clothes below my neck,” Grace told us earlier today at Variety and L’Oréal’s Power of Women Luncheon in Beverly Hills. “This is a look I’ve never embraced before and it is quite the departure for me.”

And if things keep going the way they have, expect to see a smaller Nancy Grace.

“I have inadvertently lost about 10 pounds,” the legal eagle talk show host said. “And I’ll tell you it’s no special diet. I’m really just too tired to eat by the time I finish practice.”

Tired and achy, that is.

“I’ve hurt both feet so far but not to the extent I have to quit practicing,” she said. “It is much, much harder than I thought. I’m so used to having everything down pat in court or on our show at night, it’s not like that on the dance floor at all.”

Nancy also chatted with Access Hollywood. She challenges Glee to do a “make-over” of her like they’ve been threatening. She describes how she is practicing for the Quickstep. She’s a total crack up as always! But, she’s starting to understand what Tristan is saying and she thinks that will help a lot.

Also, don’t miss her on Showbiz Tonight talking to her friend AJ! She grills him on his voting. She talks of how nervous she was last week…especially with her parents in the audience. AJ asks her some good questions. She also said she had a Red Bull right before she went on stage. OMG, NANCY GRACE DRINKING A RED BULL? 😯 LOL!!!!

Thanks to Tristan MacManus Fanpage at Facebook for the above video.

Here’s to Monday night! I can’t wait to see these two again!

DWTS13 Kristin Cavallari’s Cha Cha Challenging, But Not Any Worse Than Cha Cha (Video, Blog)

Kristin Cavallari tells People.com that she and Mark expected the dating rumors. Dating gossip aside, they are excited to dance with one another. Mark says they are staying focused and “making the best performances” for their fans. Kristin also says the Quickstep has been challenging to learn, but, doesn’t think it’s worse than the Cha Cha last week. More below….

“I kind of expect [the dating rumors], to be honest,” she says. “But that’s what happens when you put two people together.”

Relationship gossip aside, the dancing duo is excited about what the season holds in the ballroom.

“I’m really proud of her progress,” Ballas says. “We’re focusing on the routines and making the best performances for our fans. We’re really grateful to them for voting for us.”

Cavallari, who says next week’s quickstep is “a little challenging,” is relieved because she doesn’t “think it’s going to be any worse than the cha cha.”

Also, Mark has penned his new first blog of the season for USA Today. He writes about the Cha Cha and how he’s confident Kristin has enough talent for her to place first Monday night. (Hmmm,…we’ll see about that, but, I kind of doubt it?)

The key word for this week is “QUICK.” It has been a very quick week of preparation and an even quicker (and exhausting) dance in the quickstep. Kristin and I really only have a few days to perfect our routine, whereas last week when we performed the cha-cha, we had weeks to practice.

The two dances are so different because with the cha-cha we danced apart and in the quickstep we are connected or in hold the entire dance, but I believe this will build Kristin’s confidence. The lack of time isn’t going to stop us from reaching our goal this week, either; quickstepping our way to the top of the leader board. Kristin and I finished 5th last week —a good start, but I feel that she has enough talent to finish first this week.

Kristin and Chelsea Kane (my dance partner from last season) have similar dance styles. They both are super-dedicated and coordinated and they also move their bodies in similar ways. Kristin has been catching on rapidly this week; however, there have been a few hurdles. That’s to be expected with the rigorous rehearsal, wardrobe fittings, camera blocking and interviews we’ve had this week.

Below is Kristin on Good Day LA as well….
