Kirstie Alley And Nancy Grace Give Dancing With The Stars Advice (Videos)
This is hilarious. In the first video from Extra, Kirstie Alley tells her thoughts on the cast for Dancing With The Stars Season 14. She loves how diverse and funny it is. She also tells of how Melissa came to watch her when she danced with Maks. She gives some advice to her and how to handle Maks since he can mess with one’s mind. Kirstie knows him best, doesn’t she? LOL!! She also has some advice for Maria…
Adding: And here’s Kirstie again on Access Hollywood with some more advice…
As for Nancy Grace, she was on The View today along with Sherri Shepherd and the gang. She had some advice for Sherri and Dancing With The Stars. She said, “Number one, show no fear”. Then she said, “Ignore all the haters!” Then third, “Have fun!” Great segment! You can see it here. More behind the scenes advice as well below (*cracking up)…
Sherri doesn’t need advise. She’s been dancing with Val way before the announcement. Maks would have gone mad if someone else had the same advantage.
How do you know sherri has been dancing with Val. There was one picture of her at the studio when Nance Grace was there, is that proof she has been taking lessons?
So right Jennifer…and he’s counting on Melissa’s name advantage to make up the difference to Sherri’s 3 ? extra weeks of practice.
Something that worries me is Maria’s already missing practices bcause of reporting duties out of town according to her twitter. Did not sound like Derek was going along and even if he did, been plenty of examples of how badly that works. She has pluses (and Derek) but she is lacking name and nostalgia recognition some of the others have and she is gonna have to commit and BRING IT hard to get past the halfway mark.
Sure hope Derek cracks that whip and Extra gives her some slack alot of great stuff will be missed because of an early exit.
Re Sherri- check out “Maks on the View 020509” on YouTube where he was teaching Sherri some basic moves. I think she has the hip action down.
Well, Evelyn, why delete an “innocent” picture??
Well Heidi -Maybe because someone at Dancing with the Stars asked her to delete it, I don’t know, but I am not going to start a RUMOR that she and Val have been rehearsing for weeks based on a picture.
Why would someone at dwts ask her to delete it IMMEDIATELY after it was posted (they aren’t that good) if there was nothing to it? Answer: they wouldn’t. They wouldn’t care.
Well Evelyn, YOU do that then – but it’s not gonna change our opinion. I highly doubt Sherri was just innocently hanging around Maks & Val’s studio – if she was taking lessons (and I do believe she was), I think it will likely be the most unfair advantage in DWTS history…not just taking ballroom lessons immediately before her stint on the show, but doing it with her future pro. Don’t like the implications we’re making? Tough.
I’m with Heidi and Court. Also Evelyn, if you don’t like rumors, then you are at the wrong site because we talk about everything DWTS here.
I’m trying to reserve judgment until I see Sherri and Val dance. Still, I admit it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I consider the possibility she’s been taking lessons from Val for a while prior to signing with DWTS. It’s underhanded and sly, and that turns me off big-time.
If she did jump the gun, it should put her ahead of the pack in Weeks 1 and 2, but how long will the advantage last? She still has to master choreography in the same amount of time as the others, and if she’s not good at that, any advantage she might have gained from early lessons will evaporate. Right?
Also, gossip pages in NYC papers and pop music station mentioned it. One place asked Mark how Maks’ birthday party was, and mark said he didn’t go. (Since the “Love my Karina tweet after season13 and Maks supposedly un followed him on twitter, guessing he wasn”t invited IMHO).
Was Sherry also getting lessons for her wedding? I though Elisabeth or maybe Joy had mentioned it. I don’t watch show anymore.
I love these videos! Good to see Kirstie and Nancy! Thanks Vogue! As for Sherri, I don’t KNOW she was taking lessons, neither does anybody else. It’s purely assumpitions, educated assumptions due to the soon deleted picture, but assumptions none the less. If she was? Major shame on her, but I can’t judge until I know for sure. 🙂
In my opinion I dont think it matters if Sherri took lessons or not I just dont see her making it past 8th place especially if she grates others nerves like she does mine. Ill eat my words if that happens.
Ohh i miss Kirstie and Nancy, Thank you for this video!! Very funny & true. I agree w/ them, after week1 performance & elimination -i know how hard & difficult the practice will be plus the build-up tensions..lol.
I want to see how all this contestants progress week after week..
Thank you for these videos (sorry, typo error) Great One, as usual!!
In addition, i still do not have one particular favorite!! but, great cast btw 😉
Sherri, Sherri, Sherri, everywhere its Sherri. I am sick of her already, and she hasn’t even stepped out on the dancefloor…. At least the one in LA. 🙂
Yes, I remember reading that Sherri took lessons for her wedding. If you look at her photos of her wedding on her facebook page, there is a pic of Val and her together too.
Zach, I do know for a fact that she did….. 🙂
There are people who do know but aren’t on this site, for example. Plus, I work near where a “View” staffer lives….wink wink.
Great post Vogue!! Thanks! 🙂 Kirstie is hilarious! Love her advices! 😉
As for Sherri, I don’t know for sure if she did take some dance lessons (but deep down I believe she did). If there was just ONE rumor that she did, then I would pass. But all the pictures and with Val always near (who btw, what a coincidence? He is her pro pair!!) make me believe that these two did have some lessons together. I don’t know HOW MUCH advantage she has, but she SURE has! Especially since her pro partner is the one who was giving her the lessons…
@Cidra: I agree with you but at the same time I kind of disagree. She doesn’t have the advantage of the choreograhy as you are saying, but if she did some lessons (which apparently seems she did), that gives her the advantage of the technique of the dances. Sooner or later they all have the steps of the choreography down, and if they don’t, then the pro can change some steps to make it easier. For me, the technique is the most difficult since it CAN’T be changed. And she sure has an advantage on that. I am not saying that she knows the technique of every dance perfectly, but it’s a plus learning it few weeks more than the other contestants. You know what I mean? Especially to some other contestants who didn’t even start rehearsaling because of their schedule, like Katherine or Maria.
Personally, Sherri was always irritating me on the “View” and she is also irritating me in the interviews. But I have no idea how good she is on dancing. I’ll have to wait and see her. At the end, whatever we are saying, we can’t know till we see them all in the dancefloor, right? 🙂
Oh…Well, Sheery, you know karma! Maybe her partner will fall over or her shoe will come off during one of her dances. 🙂
I am sure Sherri is not the only DWTS celeb who has had some dancing lessons just prior to their season. Sherri just got “caught.” I’ve always suspected Kirstie did because she probably knew she was going on in S12 because the producers wanted her. Not sure what a few dancing lessons will have as an advantage in the long run when you have to learn different dance routines and perform in front of a roomful of people. She may last longer than Wendy though, but be less painful to watch Sherri dance.
Yes probably some have had lessons prior but have they had them with the PRO assigned to them for DWTS. The pro that knows what to do on the show, and what the judges want. I smell a rat. If its true, than I call that CHEATING.
Yes, Winter, I always wondered if Kirstie had lessons before the season started also. It always seemed strange to me that her first dance, the cha cha, was her best dance really. After that she never really improved much IMO.
I don’t know for how long Sherri and Val have been training. I do know that she’s known she’ll do dwts for a long long long time. I remember Whoopie saying on the view that Sherri will do dwts right after the finale or around that time.
@Ifigenia (#19) I see what you’re saying about the advantage of having more time to learn technique; but I think it’s all a matter of degrees. If it was only an hour here and there over the span of a few weeks, I don’t think she’ll have picked up or retained that much technique (unless she has a lot of natural talent and is a quick learner, which she could be).
@Winter (#21) You raise a valid point! If Sherri’s baseline is as low as Wendy’s, maybe I’m all for the alleged early dance lessons. LOL Watching Wendy “dance” was a painful business. 8)
Geez, I read stuff about Maks unfollowing Mark and Derek and I swear he reminds me of a 12 year old girl.
Well, we know Donny Osmond did as well – and we didn’t like it then either. 🙂
Where are people getting all this following/unfollowing on Twitter information. Maks and Derek are friends – they hung out at least 2 separate times when Derek was in NY. Mark I don’t know about-but even if they’re not bff’s, where is it written that they have to be?
I’m not sure where the impression came from that Donny is not following Derek because I just checked Donny’s verified account and I see he’s still following Derek. I didn’t know he was following Mark in the first place but if so, you’re right but he’s still following Derek for sure. Sandra77, it’s easy. You just go to the person’s twitter and check their “following” list. Also, I know this has been going on for months but twitter has been automatically unfollowing people without anyone knowing it. I know my account has unfollowed people and I didn’t do it myself and vice versa for other people. It’s a glitch or something that twitter never bothered to fix. There could be lots of reasons why some pros are not following each other.
Sandra – strike 1: taking shots at other commenters. Not cool, don’t do it again.
And I disagree about Maks & Derek being friends – I think they’re cordial to one another due to being coworkers, but I doubt they’ve got any sort of bromance going on. And I don’t think anyone has said that they have to be bff’s – I think following each other on Twitter is just professional courtesy, and it’s a bit petty & childish to unfollow someone (especially someone you know personally, and not just on Twitter) because of some disagreement you have. But hey, that’s just me – apparently Maks gets a free pass for just about everything these days…
Errr, I think you might be confusing 2 different conversations, Liz – it was Maks unfollowing Derek & Mark on Twitter, and then someone else was talking about Donny taking lessons prior to the show. At least that’s what I gathered…
Regarding Kirstie, it’s just my opinion, but I think her cha cha cha was excellent because she had 3 weeks to practice it and got to perform it 3-4 on the show–same steps-not even a different choreographed cha cha cha. If you look closely at some dances, Maks puts his face into her hair to whisper the steps during the dances. Even though I admire her for doing the show, she wasn’t deserving of second, third, or even fourth place. For example, she forgot steps and did a lack luster jive, and got, 9, 7, 6, 8. Bristol forgot choreography in the gorilla suit (still SMH at that outfit) and got 6s. Seriously? neither of them should have stayed after that, but large fan bases will be large fan bases. I love Tristan, so was glad to see him each week, but Nancy should have been gone after her jive as well. BTW–that might be Sherri’s kiss of death dance (depending on when she has to perform it).
@Cidra (#25)
Yeah…you are totally right. It depends on how long they’ve been practicing. If they were just practicing for 1-2 weeks it’s not such a big deal. But if they are doing it since the last season ended (3 months) that’s not fair at all!
I am not saying that she wasn’t allowed to have some lessons if she knew that she would be on the show, but at least DO NOT do it with your future pro! That’s another huge advantage she has compared to others! Cause when the others are going to try to feel comfortable and learn their partners and develope a chemistry, Sherri and Val won’t have that problem!
And personally, I think that if you decide to start having lessons in something you know you are going to compete against others in a few months, you are not doing it for only an hour here and there… Always a personal opinion!
Oops! Courtney, I think you’re right. Sorry about that and forget what I just said. 😉
They don’t have to be friends, but it was noted after that shit last season that suddenly Maks was no longer following Derek on twitter when he had been BEFORE the shit. Childish. Now, if he really did unfollow Mark for that comment about Karina?? Grow the fuck up already.
Maks gets a free pass for things that his fans hate on Derek for – but hey, it’s Maks. Different rules for him, apparently.
@Ifigenia (#33) You raise a valid point about the “comfort level” advantage Sherri and Val might have gained from dancing together before the show; but to some degree people who just know each other as friends before the show could be said to have that same advantage, e.g., Julianne and her then boyfriend or even Cheryl and Rob last season (didn’t Cheryl say she and Rob have known each other for ages?) In the long run, I still think Sherri’s not gonna last; but it would be a shame if her alleged head start makes her look better than she really is. She could earn enough judges’ points and impress enough casual viewers to vote for her. The result could be we lose someone else that we’d prefer to keep over her! Oh well, that’s how it always goes on DWTS. We’ll just have to see how it turns out.
Unquestionably, there are different rules for Maks if you’re a Maks-maniac (same with Mark’s maniacs). For Maks fans it’s like the friends of the perennial bridesmaid (Maks) hating on the bride (Derek). For Mark-maniacs, it’s like always trying to prove your guy is better than his super-excellent “bro”. I’m not talking about “fans” but “obsessed fans” here. In my case, I used to be a strong Maks supporter and gave him the benefit of the doubt many times; but last year’s shenanigans used up all the free passes I had left. Unfortunately, there are still many who just love “bad boys”. It’s a pity.
Don’t pity me! I’m a Maks fan and have been for years. Yes, I like the bad boys and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. 🙂
Find it interesting that Maks ends up being brought into so many of these discussions. He obviously is a very polarizing individual. With all due respect, I have never understood why Maks and Derek are pitted against each other. (I know Maks started it?) They are polar opposites in dance style, life experiences, personalities, choreography and teaching but I find them both to be very exceptional and love to watch both of them dance. I am a big time fan of Maks, Derek, Tristan, sometimes Mark, Anna and Cheryl. I’m looking forward to a great season of DWTS after months of withdrawal and hoping someone new will bring controversy (if necessary) this season(whose last name does not start with a C). LOL
It is very interesting indeed Rebecca.
I’m with you Evaine. No pity necessary. I don’t feel like the bridesmaid at all being a Maks fan. The man is incredibly talented and much has been made of the fact he hasn’t WON but he HAS placed 6 of his celebs in the top 4 – 2 runner ups, 2 third place, & 2 fourth place. Nothing to be ashamed about. And of course Misty got hurt so who knows how she would have done. And he has tons of outside DWTS projects he works on, charity work, & not to mention owner of 4 studios & they continue to expand so he’s doing okay. 🙂
I’m actually quite excited about the new season & hope it brings lots of fun & laughter to everyone. This whole business with Sheri/Val? I have no idea but the more it is talked about the more I find myself rooting for them. She seems to be having a ball & I love DWTS contestants who really want to be there & embrace the experience. 🙂
@Evaine (#39) and Michelle (#41) – I wouldn’t categorize either of you as obsessed, just fans. To me, there’s a difference, and it involves thinking as well as feeling. Your comments seem to indicate you’re capable of doing both. I think you’re brave to like “bad boys”. I guess I don’t have the gumption to handle the ups and downs. So I’m heading for calmer waters, but you go, girls! 🙂
LOL! Thanks Cidra. Appreciate your fair comments. I’ll weather the storm & meet you on the beach. 🙂
With cocktails and cabana boys. 😉
@Michelle and Evaine. It’s a date! Have the boys bring me a cosmo :mrgeen:
Sheesh, it would help my iconography if I could type
@Cidra (#37)
Sure some couples in the previous seasons knew each other from before. But did they dance together? As I know, Julianne & Chuck and Cheryl & Rob didn’t dance before the show. And Chuck wasn’t a great dancer, in my opinion, neither Rob at the beginning. Rob really made an amazing progress and I was enjoying seeing him at the end. I think he deserved the place he got.
What I want to say is that for me, being friends or know someone that doesn’t mean that you feel comfortable dancing with him/her or that you have dancing-chemistry with this person. Knowing someone and dancing with them is totally different for me. Again, all I am saying is my personal opinion.
But let’s put the ‘comfortable’ part aside…what about the weaknesses? While all the pros are in the process to learn their partners’ weaknesses so they can cover them, Val already knows that part too! I am not saying that is bad take some lessons if you want to, but what bothers me is that she was taking lessons with her future pro. That’s what bothers me.
But…at the bottom line, like you said, we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out. And like I said in a previous comment, we can’t really know until we see them all dancing. Now we are just assuming.
The premiere is not far… 🙂
