Pure Dancing With The Stars 14 Week 2 – Interviews After The Dance Part 2 (Videos)

I don’t know about you, but, I always enjoy former Dancing With The Stars pro Louis Van Amstel’s take on the dances after Monday night’s shows. Below is his “overall” take. If you’d like to read his full review, visit ABC here and see if you do or don’t agree with him on the night.

Overall. There were some disappointing routines and some really great ones this week. My top three tonight — William, Katherine and Roshon; all three have been consistent and have shown the most potential so far. Donald is an up and comer. I’m worried mostly for Martina (not happy about that) and am not sure if Gavin’s fan base can overrule Martina’s. I’m also slightly worried for Melissa. We’ll all have to wait to find out.

Carson Kressley had some thoughts as well on Good Morning America today. He thinks Katherine is the front runner. I agree with him on Martina’s pants. It’s a rarity to see anyone able to wear them well?

Dancing With The Stars 14 Week 2 – Interviews After The Dance Part 1 (Videos)

Isn’t it always refreshing to get some class act Dancing With The Stars interviews from George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet and this time is no different. Let’s start out with Derek and Maria….

Derek tells why they’ve kept Maria’s injury under wraps. They’d didn’t want to be “known” as an injured couple. Maria danced last week with two broken ribs and keeps going. Derek calls her “amazing”. Maria says she didn’t want a big deal made on her injury and wants to concentrate on their work and all the fun. George says they are the most improved couple. They are happy and she hopes to find her “sex spot”. They have the Rumba next week if they make it and Derek plans to bring out the “love hand”. Wha??? lol

William had no idea he could be at this level of receive this much love. He feels so blessed for the attention. Cheryl loves all of her new Spanish fans as well. Cheryl thinks he has the potential to go far because he showed he can work hard and he could dance both ballroom and Latin. He says he has to keep listening to Cheryl and do everything she says. “Yes yes…”

Roshon and Chelsie are happy with their scores and placement. George tells Roshon he reminds him of a friend who use to dance in the movies with his fast legs. Chelsie says Roshon has the potential to win the mirror ball if he works hard.

Val says Sherri brings out the best in him and make his cheeks cramp up when she’s so funny all the time. She said she was able to breathe last night and wasn’t as nervous. They are happy with their dance and feel blessed. She wants to have fun and keep living the dream.

DWTS 14 Week 2 Power Rankings

First, a warning: I kinda phoned it in on these rankings.  For those of you not watching the drama of “U-Versegate” unfold on my Twitter, my tv & internet inexplicably crapped out right after Melissa & Maks danced – completely missed Jack & Gladys, & only saw part of Katherine before reader Nathan graciously sent me a link to an internet feed, which I could access at that point because my internet was back up.  Long story short – I read the U-Verse customer service rep the riot act, and I have a tech coming out tomorrow morning to figure out the problem, but at this point I’m just kinda ready to be done with tonight.  But a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone (jimmbboe, Will, Maria, @Team_MGMC, and of course Heidi!) who tracked down videos of the performances I missed – I don’t know what I would have done without you 😀

Well, overall, tonight kinda sucked ass 😛 Wish I had a better way to put it, but there were very few moments that delighted me, and many that made me wish my internet had stayed disconnected.  Both ridiculous over & underscoring going on, and some blatant pimping & shady business going on involving a certain couple…oh, and by the way, if you’re a William & Cheryl fan that isn’t mature enough to handle differing opinions, do us both a favor and skip this post.  The “hold for moderation” list here at Pure is becoming more competitive than the VIP roster at Tao in Vegas – seems like some folks are just DYING to get on it 😉

1/2.) TIE: Katherine & Mark and William & Cheryl – I think one of these couples deserves to be in the top spot; the other does not.  I shouldn’t have to tell you which is which 🙂 I do think Katherine has been the most consistent of the past two weeks, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well she’s done – I was definitely worried about tonight, thinking that she would be stuck being the reserved English rose that couldn’t let loose in the jive.  But she brought her A-game – and she not only looked like she was having fun, but she had the best jive technique of the night.  Very energetic, sharp, & clean.  And she actually did jive choreo, which is more than I can say for some of the couples doing jive tonight…ahem.  I thought she looked gorgeous, too – like a young Twiggy 🙂 As for the other couple that I have in the lead – the only reason I have them here is because TPTB and the judges seem bound & determined to jam him down our throats as the hottest dancer this season at every turn, and some folks seem to be buying into the hype.  I am not one of them – I thought his posture in his quickstep was atrocious (he was hunched over for most of it!), and he did loose his timing & footwork a few times…yet miraculously, no one seemed to point it out.  Hmmm.  And the guy still looks terrified to me when he’s dancing – like he’s afraid he might poop his pants. Once again, I reiterate – I’m sure William is a really nice guy.  But all of this shameless promotion of him I’m seeing from TPTB, the judges, and even his partner (who I’ve lost some respect for) just turns me off completely.  After the 3-ring publicity circus of the past 2 weeks, I would not even consider tossing a single vote in their direction this season.  But hey, that’s ok, since they seem to be bogarting Maria & Derek’s votes now…and yes, I’m totally calling shenanigans on that one.  Anywho…based on scores (and some creative promotion), I think these two ought to be safe from tomorrow’s elimination.

3/4.) TIE: Maria & Derek and Jaleel & Kym – I’m gonna apologize in advance for multiple ties – but the scoring of these past 2 weeks just has me all discombulated and unsure of what to think 😯 I’m still in disbelief that the judges honestly thought William & Cheryl’s quickstep was as good as Maria & Derek’s, which I found to be a bright spot in a dismal evening of routines.  It was fun, it was clean, and Maria is starting to relax – and when you take into account that Maria actually hurt herself pretty bad, I think it’s even more impressive that she was able to pull off such an entertaining routine.  I found her technique to be at least a point or 2 better than slouchy William.  As for Jaleel – I feel bad for the guy, because I feel like they got shafted worst of all by their song tonight.  That was one sh*tty jive song – can you blame them for looking a bit lackluster and low-energy when they have to dance a silly dance to a song that’s probably better suited to a rumba or waltz? I honestly wouldn’t have known what to do if tasked with doing jive to a song like that.  So while I think it wasn’t as impressive as his foxtrot last week, I honestly can’t fault him (or Kym, for that matter) for doing a bit of a lackluster routine.  Scoring-wise, I think they *should* be ok – but the spread is really funky this week.  I suggest everyone keep their eyes peeled for Heidi’s numbers post tomorrow…it should be…interesting. Quicksteppin’ in the Rain – Again

I posted another version of this on PureDerekHough.com, but I thought this one was cute because you can hear them better. You can also see the big red lipstick marks on Derek’s neck. 😉

DWTS Season 14 Stats Class: Week 2 Predicted Scores

So we know from previous experience that the couples are either going to be jumping around with the Jive or kicking up their heels with the Quickstep. How do we know what they are going to be dancing? Well, if they danced the Foxtrot last week, they will be working on the Jive in Week 2… consequently if a couple danced the ChaCha last week they will be dancing the Quickstep this week.

So let’s see how the predicted numbers add up!

GAVIN DEGRAW
Dance: Jive
Average Scores:
– Age: 21.423
– Occupation: 20.167
– Professional Partner: 21.333
Predicted Score / Rank: 21 / 7th
Comments: Gavin is towards the bottom of the leaderboard after last week’s Foxtrot, which means he will have a lot of ground to cover if he wants to stay in the competition (granted I’m not even counting fanbase votes). When it comes to the Jive, he seems to have a lot going for him between his age group and his partner, both ranking in the top half. However, for some reason singers have crazy trouble with the dance in the first third of the season… and being singers that are suppose to know how to keep time… why? Knowing all this, I’d say his predicted score should be fairly close to the real thing… strongly in the middle of the pack.

DONALD DRIVER
Dance: Quickstep
Average Scores:
– Age: 21.792
– Occupation: 22.000
– Professional Partner: N/A (one time pros average: 22.000)
Predicted Score / Rank: 22 / 3rd
Comments: Donald seems to have a lot going for him in regards to how he should do on the Quickstep. Every NFL player that has done the Quickstep in the first third of the season have scored at least a 20. Add to that his age group (30s) and his score inches up a bit… unfortunately Peta has yet to do a Quickstep on the show… so looking at other female pros that have been on the show once it would seem that the Quickstep isn’t a bane either… so I would say that the predicted score is about par for the course based on the limited data available. My life can be summed up in the following two quotes: 1) "I am married to engineering and am its faithful wife by day, but at night my wanderlust takes hold and the arts becomes my jealous paramour." and... 2) "Engineering is my safety net. Writing is my passion. Acting is my escape when the other two become too much." So where does dancing fit in? Pretty much anywhere at this point... =)

Melissa Gilbert Hopes To Rise To The Occasion Tonight On Dancing With The Stars

Melissa Gilbert has penned a new blog at People about learning the Quickstep for week 2 of Dancing With The Stars. She writes that “childbirth” was easier than learning the Quickstep, but, Maks believes in her and she’s hoping to rise to the occasion tonight and not disappoint him. More below and at the link.

Okay, stand with your feet together. Push your pelvis forward until your upper back lies back with your knees bent. Lift your head up and gracefully turn it to the left. Now jump around really, really fast … backwards … in three inch heels!

If it feels really unnatural and contradictory to all the rules of logic and science, you are doing the quickstep, my next challenge on Dancing with the Stars.

Who invented this? Where is he? Let me at him!

LOL! She’s funny. I hope they do well tonight!

DWTS Maria Menounos Suffering A Broken Rib, But, Staying Strong And Won’t Give Up

Several outlets today are reporting Maria is suffering from a broken rib. Below is a take from Fox News on it. Let’s hope Maria is ok for tonight and all will go well.

Word on the show is Menounos broke a rib during a hardcore rehearsal with Hough, who was teaching her the Cha-cha-cha.

A source close to the “Extra” host said, “She has been in excruciating pain for the past few weeks during rehearsals, but she is staying strong and working through it. She refuses to give up.”

Be sure you are keeping up with these two at Pure Derek Hough for all the latest. Heidi posted a “must see” video of these two “Quickstepping in the Rain”. Is it a sneak peek for tonight’s dance? You be the judge!! 🙂

DWTS 14 Jaleel White And Kym Johnson Have Some Surprises In Their Pocket

Jaleel White tells People that he and Kym have some surprises planned for their upcoming dances. They show them rehearsing for the Jive and he is looking good!! He says it’s a good thing when Kym “smiles” and it’s his goal. See why in the video the link.

We may have more on these two a little later. Stay tuned. 😉

Cheryl Burke And William Levy DWTS Week 2 Rehearsal Footage And Interviews (Videos)

TV Guide interviewed Cheryl about last week’s dance with her partner William Levy. She said she’s never received the screams she did with any of her partners before like she did with William. Below is a more….

Tom told me that a lot of ladies on staff were ogling him, so did you have any inkling that he would trigger this type of reaction?
Burke: No. I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew he is very popular in the Latin market, but I didn’t know how they were gonna react when they saw him here. And our show is obviously in the U.S. I was a little bit surprised. I didn’t think no one was gonna cheer for him or everyone was gonna cheer for him, but I was more like, “We’re just gonna go out and dance.” So having that support blew us away and I think really made us dance ever better.

You guys did great for rehearsing for only two weeks.
Burke: Actually it was only 10 days. I think they had been wanting him to come on the show and this time he said, “OK, I can do it, but I can’t start rehearsals when everyone else is” because he was finishing up his contract. We started later than everyone else. I was a little nervous. First of all, I didn’t know who he was. [Laughs] I just knew he was Latin and was thinking that hopefully he’ll have some natural rhythm and musicality. And thank God he did! If he didn’t, we probably would’ve looked like a disaster.

Also, below is some new rehearsal footage from Access Hollywood on William’s strengths and weaknesses. We get to know him a little more too…

ADDING: And below is William on Good Morning America this morning….
