DWTS Season 14, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What…and when?
Ah, the week of a thousand rumbas. 🙂 Throw in a waltz and you have a whole bunch of slow dances, two sambas, a salsa and a jive. It’s gonna be a weird night.
ETA: William dancing 10th – Gee, that’s a shock. :::rolls eyes::: When will the pimpage end?? Who will be the lucky number 11? Katherine, Roshon or Jaleel. I bet Roshon, since they put him in jeopardy last week, he’s dancing to MJ, and most importantly – he works for Disney. Although you wouldn’t think they would put two of their quicker dances right next to each other.
ETA 2: Thank god, it appears Donald is going last.
ETA 3: Katherine’s dancing 6th…for the 2nd week in a row. Iiiinteresting. So now our 3 key running order positions have been filled…wonder who will end up in the “positions of doom”? -Court-
ETA 4: Melissa appears to be in the clear – she’s dancing 8th. This could be a good thing for her. -Court-
ETA 5: Maria’s got one of the “doom” positions, but I doubt it matters too much for her – somebody’s gotta go 2nd, 3rd, & 4th, and good/popular dancers are inevitably going to end up there at some point. Plus I think they’re trying to space out all the rumbas 🙂 -Court-
ETA 6: The trend of back-to-back Chmerkovskiys continues…why? Idk…I guess TPTB seem to think they’re conjoined twins or something…
ETA 7: And the trend of pimping Roshon seems to be over…

I can’t help but think that Melissa is going to be in trouble with that Jive, and that William and Katherine are sitting pretty with the Salsa and Waltz, respectively. Roshon should be in good shape unless he gets too casual, and Jack? I dunno. I hope it goes well. The rumbas?? We might be in for a surprise there. That’s one dance that is harder than it looks.
In other news, Derek has dyed his hair brown and is apparently letting it grow. I will figure out a reward for the first person to figure out why. 🙂 Last time he dyed it, it was for a movie. Inquiring minds and web site owners want to know. 😉
Nice that Jack is dancing to his own song, just wish they’d let Gladys & Gavin do that 🙂
It’s the only week you can pick your own song – if they want to they can.
I am the most worried for Gavin and Melissa. They both need to make a huge showing.
I love Derek’s hair!! So cute!!
I read on her twitter that Maria is wrestling on Wrestlemania tonight?! You gotta wonder if she will be focused enough to pull off a strong performance this week?
I think I’ve figured out my problem with Melissa being so bland. She dances after Sherrie!
Sherrie is just such an overflow of personality and well…Melissa isn’t and it’s just such contrast.
Were Melissa to dance after Gavin or maybe even Gladys it wouldn’t be so noticable.
Recently either Derek or Julianne said they were working on a project together. Julianne just wrapped up shooting in NOLA and seems to be going back to LA. I am guessing maybe it is for their project but I don’t know what that project is. Maybe we will hear something soon.
I don’t think Melissa’s problem is the dance order….
Roshon could give us a great samba. The dance is one of Chelsie’s strengths; the only female pro on the show with more consistently sizzle-y sambas than her is Lacey. (I know Karina’s great at the technique but her sambas come off cold to me.)
Rumba is a very difficult dance. A lot of people don’t know that. It can expose you badly.
Figures they give el chicano guapo a salsa. The producers are pimping him like crazy.
Ai-ai-ai! All those rumbas. I enjoy watching two pros rumba, but most celeb rumbas just make me cringe. I’m also worried about Jack and the samba 😯 That just doesn’t seem like a natural fit.
Can’t TPTB give up on “personal story week” dances? Let the celebs bare their souls in a video clip instead. It wouldn’t mess up the dancing, those who like the personal stories could watch, and those who don’t (raises hand) could fast forward.
Golden brown works with Derek’s complexion. He’s still as easy on the eyes as ever 😉
Sheery….yeah, I know…I was kinda grasping at straws.
Wow they really gave Katherine a huge advantage this week, the slow Waltz will be perfect for her elegant classical syle.
Also the Rumba is a hard one to create a story around so I find it hard to believe that so many have the Rumba.
William should be good too again thanks to getting the Salsa.
i agree…weird night… a lot of slow dances and the perfect dances for our front runners .. a slow waltz for Katherine and a SALSA for Will…i think the foxtrot will be a good dance for Gladys. and i think Melissa really needs to bring it this week or she will be in big trouble!! can’t wait to see the Rumba Derek has choreographed for Maria…did i hear smth about lots of nose kisses?? so..he probably went with the sweet Rumba
Er, the producers didn’t pick the dances this week, the couples did.
I don’t know could dirty dancing be in Derek’s future?
Margaret, that thought ran through my mind too.
Yes, I know the celeb chooses the song and that dictates the dance style, hence all those rumbas. I just wish TPTB would can personal story week because it would cut down on the crappy week 3 rumbas!
I can see Gavin going this week. He has the unfortunate task of following JR’s personal story/rumba with Karina from season 13
I have a feeling Jaleel and Kym is going to have a really good rumba. I remember Kym saying Jaleel has good hip action. That bonds well for the rumba. Plus he needs a “comeback” this week.
So shocked Will and Katherine got dances in their wheelhouse. So shocked! Tongue baths, tens and judges calling them the second coming of Gilles and Brooke expected. Mean we just fast forward to them being in the finals. Boring!
Hope Jaleel has a comeback week and Donald continues to improve. I love that Donald is a fan of the show.
I am sad but not surprised Jack is going first. Guess it is too much to expect Will or Katherine to go in the first hour. Pretty sure she will get the pimp spot. I will be fine if both of the, get the Sabrina boot. Hope someone reminds Louis, so critical of Nicole, that Katherine actually has tons of dance experience and learned foxtrot before.
@Melissa The producers didn’t give them the dances, the couples choose their dance this week, so that’s really no schock.
Im worried for Jack and Melissa in particular, not sure about the rumbas but I think they could all do well, except for Gavin I don’t know why I don’t see him doing well with it but we’ll see.
Either way, not a surprise. Would not have shocked me if the show picked it for them or they picked it. I am tired of these two. When Brooke said the last one who started this strong….yeah yourself Brooke! Or Nicole or say Jennnifer. How much more impressive was Jennifer’s jive and had less filler. I am tired of Katherine as much as others are tired of Will. I am sure this dance will be about Mark Emmy baiting too. Love to see someone call out Mark’s hypocrisy on twitter. Sure he will retweet it and call them a hater.
I also worry for Jack and Melissa.
Guapos, overflowing personalities, wrestlemania, eskimo kisses, dirty dancing, weird nights, straws, dying hair…….. 😯
We’re in for a great night tomorrow! LOL
I’m hoping Maria and Jaleel can just put everything aside and bring a really great performance tomorrow!
William and Cheryl are dancing 10th
I noticed the hair color now for Derek. It does make you wonder. Hope sle news, good hopefully, comes out soon.
I thought Julianne and Derek were producing something together which I do not know would require his hair color change. His interview with tv guide a few weeks ago was great! Showed a great sense of humor and really love his take on the show. He really wants it to be fun with memorable dances.
Hmm, Jack gets the first dance. Good for votes, we hope. I wonder what song he will do – don’t think Lady of My Heart or All I need are samba songs…
@SueB – I youtubed Jack, apparently he performed Van Morrison’s “Dancing in the Moonlight” on the Bold and the Beautiful in 2005 – better rhythm for salsa, not exactly a Jack song tho
If I were Gavin I would choose Not Over You” as his song. Seems perfect for a rumba.
Cheryl’ dance order #10.
Jack getting one of his songs is going to help him I think. Obviously, putting one rumba after the other is probably not going to happen but I really hope the order is like this:
1) Jack- samba
2) gavin- rumba (just to get him out of the way….no doubt in my mind he is next to go)
3) Sherri – Rumba (kinda want her to do really well but if she brought energy to the first 1/2 last time)
4) katherne- waltz (not really excited for this one so maybe a slow dance after a slow dance will bore the judges and keep them away from that 9 paddle for her)
5) Roshon- samba (probably the oen i’m most excited for 5th becuase i didn’t know wheere to place him lol)
6) Donald – rumba (if they want to start the show off stronf keeping sonald in the first 6 would be smart)
7) Melissa- jive (lucky number 7 no other reasoning besides that lol)
8) Jaleel – Rumba (he should do well and keeping im toawrds the end would be smart)
9) galdys- foxtrot (another one i didn’t really know where it would be better for her to be placed but this seemed like a good spot)
10) Maria – rumba (i have a really good feeling about this one)
11) William – Salsa (just to end show on happy note and so the show can end with screaming from the crowd)
Lastly as for derek, i really hope it is “dirty dancing” but part of me is also hoping that he is part of the upcoming “Scary movie 5” too (I know someo f them weren’t good but the 3rd one, 2nd one, and 1rst one were great and he would be fun to see mocking horror movies)
What would make you think Scary Movie, Vin?
Derek was at an audition recently, so he’s probably going on others. Dirty Dancing has to start any day. But I hope he’s not doing that.
Uh oh….maria & Kelly won their wrestling match, but Maria is holding her side/rib … 🙁
http://twitter.com/#!/xMeggii_K2/status/186610811186323458/photo/1
She’s going to be holding her ribs for a long time to come, Sheery. I doubt that will slow her down.
@Vin, if the band and DWTS singers do to Jack’s song what they did to some of the songs in the opener, it may not help him, as he’ll be cringing when he dances 😉
The reason I said Scary Movie 5 is becuase the producers and directors always seem to get really famous people (charlie sheen, simon rex, niel patrick harris, etcand often have them dye their hair for the movies…..still don’t get wy but they always do that to the actors) Plus the film is supposed to begin filming late spring/summer time (at least according to what I heard on the reelz channel).
@SueB: I think the band wouldn’t screw one of hsi songs. No offense to Jack but as a singer he is good but not great and the band singers could probably do a better job on one of his songs.
Donald and Peta are going last!!
@Heidi + @Sheery:
My sister is a Manager of an Equestrian Centre. She got thrown off of a colt and broke 3 ribs. All they could do was tape it and give her pain meds. It took a good 3 mos though before she started feeling herself again. The worst part for her was sleeping. She basically had to stay in a sitting position.
I’m just hoping Maria won’t overdo it. Any extra strain at this point and she may have a doctor pull her out of the competition. My sister’s doctor was concerned that one of the broken ribs could puncture her lung.
Didn’t Buttercup say that the celebs pick their music for the “personal story” thing, and the dance flows from that??? But still, the night of 1,000 Rumbas…. blech. 🙄
I think Melissa is going to be in trouble… both dances so far, I’ve heard comments from the Three Stooges about how difficult the choreography has been. Maybe Maks is being a little too tough on her, making her think too much about the dance? I’m also worried about Jack – he just doesn’t seem like the Samba type to me, although at least it should be more of an upbeat story line.
I really do not want them to remake Dirty Dancing. In my eyes it is perfect as it is. No one can take the place of Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze. They were that movie.
I hope it is a new movie for Derek. Not liking remakes!
I agree that Melissa may be in trouble with the Jive. I was really excited to see her this season but I haven’t been blown away by her. I think she is doing ok but not what I expected.
Gavin doing the Rumba may be hard for me to watch. I think he is a nice person but not liking his dancing.
Donald is going last tomorrow! He is my spoiler and pick to win. Most likely to upset tptb if he beats out Katherine or Will.
I love Gavin’s songs but it must be odd to dance to your own songs and the bands um…singing, lol. Always felt bad for Nicole having to sit through the band snging her PCD song for Evan’s tango.
Now I am curious about Derek’s auditions.
idk if i see donald winning, but i do see him sneaking into the finals in place of one of TPTB picks (jaleel/roshon/katherine)
if i had to take a wild stab at the order tomorrow…
1) jack & Anna Samba (honestly not sure why he’s first unless the producers are trying to help him, bc i do not foresee his samba being that good or crowd pleasing
2) Gavin & karina rumba – see this being sweet, but not good , and he looks like he’s on his way out…so might as well give him an early exit position
3) Maria & Derek rumba – this well probably be pretty decent to good…and can have all crappers in the first hr. also, although i dont peg her for having a lack of fans…idk if she is bringing them in by the droves either…combined with going in second half of show last week…think her and derek will dance pretty early
4) Melissa & Maks Jive – would have never said this at the beginning of the season but i dont think tptb care for halfpint…so combine that with kinda curious previoius judging scores and me not thinking this jive will be that great…i think she will dance early
5) sherri & Val rumba – put them sorta in the middle because thats what i think their dancing will be, and why not put the brothers next to each other again
6) Gladys & Tristan Foxtrot – think her story will be pretty memorable and although her dance wont be great, i see it being better than her qstep. That and her status alone should put her close to the top of the hr
7) roshon & chelsie Samba – If tptb are really pimping him, they will put him around top of the hr… plus, i think this is going to be a darn good samba
8) katherine & mark Waltz – going to be a great dance and im sure the producers dont want her to get lost in the shuffle, so second hr she goes
9) jaleel & kym rumba – prob gonna set this up to be his redemption dance/ kym has been saying they have something special planned
10) william & cheryl – salsa dancer + pimping + minimal clothes = crowd going crazy ….i mean he already knows salsa – so if this isnt spectacular, i will be disappointent
11) donal & peta – dont think this will be great, but pretty good. Hes a hard worker and you can never underestimate football fans….theyve carried lesser dancers to the semifinals/finals
Melissa, believe me when I say that I researched it 🙂 Two different women tweeted the same picture that Derek did and both commented to him “Oh, you were at the same audition as we were.” But these people are tight lipped and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what they were auditioning for. It was driving me crazy. I guess I’ll just be satisfied that he’s either involved in something or going after something 🙂
Do you remember which picture he posted? Now my curiosity is peaked and interested now!
I think Donald has as good of a chance to win as others though I can see Jaleel, if he rebounds his week, as a threat.
I agree tbtb do not care for Melissa. Or so it seems. But Melissa is not good either. Ricki delivered good routines though I credit Derek a lot for that. Melissa is not like Kirstie Jennifer or Ricki personality wise either.
Interesting list, yo. I do think Roshon will go in the second half but wish Katherne or Will would go in the first hour. They obviously got enough help the first two weeks, I bet Maria goes back to the first hour.
Have we confirmed that Gladys & Tristan are definitely doing a foxtrot? In their Tuesday OTRC interview, Tristan seemed to be unsure whether they were going to stick with that. I kinda have a feeling he may have wanted to switch to another latin dance, but I haven’t heard anything from them this week so not sure what the final decision was or whether I missed an interview somewhere.
Interesting that they’re closing the show with a rumba. Donald’s story must be a real tear-jerker.
I see Katherine getting a 30 and William getting at least a 29. Carrie Ann and Bruno are going to pull out the “10” paddles for him.
I have a strong feeling that William and Donald are the ones getting the votes. William, Donald, and Katherine reminded me of Jr, Rob, and Katherine from last season.
curiously, this season I’m disagreeing with a lot of your points, puredwts girls… (but I’m not going to talk about it…)
I’m not a fan of all these pretentious (and a lot of times ridiculous/disappointing) theme weeks. but I’m waiting for the stories (I know some of them spoiled a little, but…) and how they will affect the dance. (Hello, Kristin!)
changing the subject, I have to say I’m very happy that salsa is back and I hope a. tango comes earlier this season.
I don’t like cheryl’s salsa/mambos choreographies, so my expectations are not that high about william this week. katherine is obviously going to be good (specially with this inspired Mark)… I’m waiting for something like that “beach waltz” he did with chelsea… simply beautiful. roshon can move, chels can samba but I dunno… don’t like her samba choreographies that much (and costumes).
I still thinking that now is about jack or gavin to leave. I’m guessing Anna is going to put a lot of “funny stuff” on the choreography and I’m not looking/going for it… Karina certainly will choreograph a decent rumba, but will gavin be convincing? Jive is a terrible dance to Melissa, and probably the worst for her, but if she resists, she is going to leave it back. it’s a risky strategy, but I think it’s correct by now. (Even I don’t likeing Maksim – despite his “not-so-creative-choreos”, I think she was underscored last week)
I don’t understand why maria would put herself in danger by wrestling. She should really concentrate on dancing. Burning the candle at both ends is not going to help her. Lets just hope she has an exceptional rhumba.
That’s what I was thinking. Margaret. I had a boyfriend in college who had a broken rib, but was one of the stars of his FB team, so of course played in a play off game, and …..ended up with a punctured lung after a tackle.
Maybe she has it wrapped most of the time.
It was a picture of a very cute dog in an office and their pictures were really similar. It was inside and there was no way to tell where they were. Arg. 🙂
I’m not so sure that William is getting the votes – they’ve been pimping him from the start, so I’m thinking he needs the help. He’s certainly not a great dancer.
Twickenham, there’s not much we can do if they decide to change it. Wait and see I guess.
Everyone has outside jobs and a life outside DWTS, Margaret. Guess what? There was likely a contract and you can hardly back out of one physical event yet keep doing another one.
I know some might find this shocking – but DWTS isn’t the most important thing in life.
I asked this same question over at PDH and Heidi reminded me that Maria probably has an obligation to uphold her contract with them. If she can dance, she can wrestle I guess. (I’m waiting for Heidi to say, “Meggie, I can speak for myself!) 🙂
I guess you just did, Heidi! You beat me to it! 🙂
I wonder if Maks is taking a calculated gamble – he’s hoping that they’ll sneak through with Gavin in the firing line and then they’ll have got the jive over and done with! Also on the night of the thousand rumbas – a jive will at least be a high energy point.
Glad someone else is getting a turn of going last – Donald has managed to make an impression even without tptb pimping him but am surprised that they’re ending with a rumba. It’s a shame that there are so many rumbas so early in the season – it means they are usually lower quality and well done, rumbas can be gorgeous.
“I know some might find this shocking – but DWTS isn’t the most important thing in life.”…….Princess Heidi, what???? Now you’re talking all cray cray!!!! HAHAHA 🙂
@Twick and @Anyone Interested:
I didn’t know anything about Donald until his appearance on the show. I’m not a huge fan of football. I have to say, my respect and admiration for this man is off the charts after reading this.
The link below is about his foundation. He is also a children’s author. The main character for his books is Quickie. The childhood nickname his mom gave him because he couldn’t catch him.
I’m hoping his rumba will tell the story of how all of this got started!
http://www.google.ca/gwt/x?q=donald+driver&ei=iqB5T7ifJ-nosgfq7AE&hl=enGB&source=m&u=http://www.donalddriverfoundation.com/
@Heidi:
I was just re-reading everyone’s comments from last night and something hit me re: the pic those ladies posted of Derek.
If you pull the pic up and right click on it, you then choose
“Properties”. It will show you the link from where they have that pic stored on their computer. It’s a long shot, but if they named that pic like “Derek at ******* audition”, then you would have your answer! 😉
From what I’ve heard from “the inside”, Donald’s lead-in package is “amazing”. I imagine the story behind his rumba is a great one, even if the dance itself it not particularly impressive. I will admit, I actually got all choked up the other day reading some of his tweets – he was tweeting about how lucky he was to be with his wife. Such a good man – I bet he’s an incredible husband & father 🙂
I’m thinking Jack may have his song “Weatherman Says” – it’s the only one I could find that has a vaguely samba-y beat. And I’m glad he’s going first – I was worried he’d keep getting relegated to the “running order positions of doom”. Hopefully this week will give him a bit of a boost.
I agree with Heidi about William – I’m not convinced he’s getting the votes. If he were, I don’t think they’d be pimping him so hard. They would probably be shifting their focus to pimping/protecting Roshon (who I don’t think is getting the votes they want him to, either) if William was sitting pretty.
Heidi – cool re: G&T’s dance, just wondered if I had missed an interview or something (I’m paranoid about missing stuff… :P)
I don’t think William is getting the votes either, but for some reason they want him to stay, so are stuffing him down our throats – shame, as I think if they weren’t doing that, I’d kinda like him, peanut-head and all :).
@Courtney:
The same thing happened to me. I haven’t been following him up until this point and after his QS of last week he really impressed me. I realized I had seriously under estimated him, so I started following his Tweeter. What an amazing role model!
His wife and children are so blessed.
I am so excited to see what he does tonight and follow his journey more closely from here on out.
Okay, Now I am even more excited for tonight. Thanks Courtney for the heads up.. I love Donald so that news is great to hear. And I think after this week, Donald may have his spot in the finale all sewn up.. 🙂
Donald, like HInes, does lots of charitable work. Betina (his wife) is a very lovely lady. Those kids seem precious……he’ll be relatable. 🙂
I love Donald too. At first I wasn’t sure he’d be very good, but, he was impressive last week and is now one of my most favorites. Huge props to Peta. I love all the contestants…and yes, William too. I guess my least liked contestant (if I had to say) right now is Gavin. I’m not feeling it with Jaleel as much as I’d like. I haven’t been all that impressed with Melissa either which is sad. I had some high hopes for her and Maks. I hope Maks’ throw of the dice works?
It wasn’t a pic of Derek, it was a pic of a very interesting little dog. Derek took a pic of him, as did the two other girls. That’s how the girls knew Derek was in the same place as them – an audition.
And believe me, the curiosity is killing me. This was probably a month or so ago. Too long for me to go back and find it. Although I could find it on Derek’s twitter probably.
@Vogue – Thats what I LOVE about this show, the journey changes everything. I was pulling for the obvious, Jaleel, but suddenly my heart changed, that smile, that charm, that pure joy, just lit up the dancefloor. I’m hooked. It’s Donald from here on out for me. 🙂
I was unsure about Donald before the season, but he’s really growing on me – and I’m just really happy for Peta, who’s been so enthusiastic on Twitter! Gavin is kinda my guilty pleasure – no, he isn’t the best dancer, but there’s something really endearing about him. I’m also a bit meh on Jaleel, and I want to love Melissa more than I do… but really, the feel-good team for me are Gladys & Tristan. Those 2 really are pure joy, both on and off the dance floor.
Yep, “the journey can change everything.” I love Donald’s story too being he was once homeless. It’s no wonder he has such a big heart for children and the homeless and why his charities are so deeply important to him. I love stories like that.
These theme weeks are annoying but I do not think Kristin left last season be ause it was not sad enough. She was not interesting or memorable and Mark out dancing her did her no favors. Buti remember Hines dedicated hs samba for his mom. His story about her sacrifice, having read about their struggles, and that celebration samba for her brought me to tears.
Now I know Donald was homeless for a whole, from what I read, growing up. I bet I will crying again and love what I have seen so far! Cannot wait.
Yes, as for Maria, she is still doing all her many jobs. Unlike some who can just dedicate 24/7 to rehearse.
Still not sure now Katherine and Will are doing on votes. Katherine’s dance background makes her a real threat in the freestyle round. Will is a crowd pleaser but the whole beefcake angle is getting old.
As a Steeler fan….it’s killing me to like Donald LOL!!! But I do 🙂 I’m hoping for a final four consisting of Jaleel, Donald, Roshon, and Maria. (I’d love to see Tristan & Karina there….but I’m not that much of a dreamer.)
Sherri’s emotional rumba will be:
“My Rumba is about my struggle w God when I almost lost Jeffrey at 25 weeks- trying 2 understand why & God telling me to trust Him w my son”
Heidi:
Believe I do know there are other more important things in life besides DWTS. I do agree. The sport to me is very dangerous for a woman, dancing or not!
Newbie here. This is going to sound dumb, but…these orders of dancing are all guesses, right? The actual order isn’t known until the show starts?
That’s assuming you believe it’s all real and not fake, Margaret. I know someone who watched it and she said most of it was fake – like most people have known for years.
Incorrect, Marie – the ones we have posted are from the Celebs or Pros twitter accounts.
Oh Marie, You came to the right place. The infomation is endless on this site and anything you want to know about DWTS, is right here. Glad you found it, you won’t know how you ever lived without it before. 🙂
I think they better worry about making it to the Freestyle before people get worried about how well she’ll do in it. It’s not in the bag just yet.
@Marie: No, they are confirmed by the stars on their official (look for the verified check) twitter.
Re order of dancing: thanks for the info, all!
@Heidi:
Could this be it Hun? Maybe he was there AT the auditions but not actually auditioning? Know what I mean?
This was the only page I could find too that still had the info about it. Three other pages said the link was removed. I thought “well alrighty then the date has now passed”, so I tried pulling up the cached version of the page and all three were a no go.
There didn’t seem to be any follow up articles regarding it either which seemed a little odd. Like it is all being kept hush hush.
http://www.facebook.com/events/251145628302962/
Katherine is sixth tonight… Also Zomg! she replied to my tweet asking, no on ever answers me!
The “personal story” theme is my least favorite. I just don’t care to know personal things about the celebs from their past. I’m kinda thinking that Melissa’s jive will be a welcome break from all the drama. Whether it’s taking a chance or not, we won’t know until tonight.
So William has the salsa tonight..What a surprise. 🙂
I’m glad Donald is getting to go last. I’ve had him on my fantasy football team for the last 3 seasons. Not only can he catch a football, he can dance. 🙂 I’m really enjoying watching him.
I’m a Packer-Backer from Wisconsin, and was nervous to see so little pull for Donald at the beginning of the season. Now I feel silly for having worried! That smile and his enthusiasm for life, family, and humanity are hard to beat. He even has my scoffing husband watching AND voting! 🙂
I wish William and Cheryl would be dancing first. Then I could just tune in late and still enjoy the rest of the show, without having all the William pimpage crap going on, it’s kind of ruining the show for me.
Does anyone really think, hand on heart, that an English person (unknown Welsh one at that) would win, look at Mel B, her name was already down to be engraved on the MBT & that didn’t happen. Last week Katherine, herself, said she has got dance experience on an interview over here (London), what I really find funny, is all those pros Mark. Maks & Louis etc who were flapping their gums when came to Nicole, now they have got Laryngitis.
Katherine dancing sixth? Seems like tptb want Will and Kate in the finals. I do not want her in the finals. She was asked by Katie this morning if she had any dance experience and did not admit it. She is able to hide it more because she is not a pop star but seems fake and not genuine. Now like Will, are they putting them in these positions because they are popular or because they need to the help.
Now if both get inflated scores with tongue baths, makes me wonder if they are not bringing in the votes.
@Sandy: I feel the same way Hun. That seems to be their given story line and their sticking to it at all costs. As far as I’m concerned Gavin and Karina could go second as well…..he was never a fav of mine but after his comment to Tom last wk before Martina was let go was the nail in his coffin for me.
Anyone can win, even an unknown. I do find it funny yet infuriating that the big mouth pros who complained about Nicole are quiet. I guess it is the Derek factor. He is that much of an advantage with his talent. Katherine is getting compliments that are so over the top yet even those same fans who found positive comments to Nicole OTT have nothing to say about Katherine.
@catherine, It is great Katherine said it to UK tv but she said nothing in gma. Viewers might think she is like a Brooke or Gilles when she is far from a newbie to dance like those two.
@Melissa she didn’t just admit it to UK tv, she also admitted it in another interview (with access hollywood or something like that I cant remember, but on american tv) during their last week of rehearsals before the show began
Re: Katherine – So why not speak up when asked and say something on GMA????
I have no idea, I havnt seen GMA. I too wish it would be clear and then everyone can move on but Im alright with a ringer and I like her personality, the only thing bothering me really is just the hypocrisy around it all and nobody actually complaining about Mark getting the ringer like they always do with Derek. But other than that, I don’t really mind.
I think that’s too recent, Taz…I think this was before he even had a partner on DWTS, but I could be wrong. I don’t tend to remember stuff like that in terms of time. I also didn’t think it had anything to do with dance.
@Melissa – I’m not so sure that the TPTB are dead set on Katherine being in the finals. I think it’s kinda telling that they’ve given her the “monkey in the middle” position for 2 weeks now…they could have given her the pimp spot this week, but they didn’t. If she was that important to them, I would have put money on them giving her the pimp spot this week. And now that I think about it, 6th may not actually be the top of the 2nd hour – since we’re down to 11 couples, it may turn out to be that she & Mark actually do their dance at the end of the 1st hour, and maybe the top of the 2nd hour will be them getting their scores…if that’s the case, going 6th may not be as big of a boon this time as it was last week. Who knows…but the fact that they’re holding out on giving her the pimp spot kinda speaks volumes to me.
Mel B was also pretty well known here in the US – Katherine isn’t.
Frankly, I’m very surprised that she’s not going later in the show. Yeah, at the top of the hour is good – but it ain’t all that great.
I also have to caution anyone putting too much emphasis on running order – yeah, it’s important, but it’s not the end all be all. And last is always best. Courtney’s the one with the spreadsheets on that, but I’m sure she would tell you that the middle spot is far from a sure thing when it comes to being safe.
@manny, I have similar thoughts about Katherine except I would like her more if I thought she was genuine. Also if she was paired with someone else.
Maybe they would have given her the pimp spot but Donald’s story is probably very good. But I am sure despite not getting the pimp spot, the judges will give her tens and Carrie Ann will go OTT yet again. I am sure Mark was salivating for this week and it will be his Emmy baiting one. The good thing for Katherine is besides making some faces, Mark cannot out dance her like he did last week.
@ Melissa – the faces! doesn’t he watch play black? I used to really like Mark because he seemed to be one of the more inventive pros, but now, he is just such a cartoon character of himself. Complete turn off. On the other hand, it forces me to focus on Katherine so I don’t have to watch his excited howler monkey faces. Maybe that’s his strategy?
Mark = excited howler monkey = best Mark analogy ever 😀
I’m getting tired of them putting William and Cheryl towards the end for the third week in the row! I mean let other contestant be close to the last because that’s when a bunch of views tune in to DWTS and for them to keep bring back the overscored so called “latin hotty”
Melissa and Maks are dancing 8th.
Tonight should be a great show! Too bad I wont be able to watch it live. :/ I have a basketball game but i’ve decided not to watch any uploaded videos when I get home but wait till tomorrow morning when I can watch the full episode. 🙂 I wish there weren’t SO many Rumbas in one night. I like the dance but it can be kinda boring after a while.
Okay guys i’m gonna try to predict scores:
Jack and Anna: I bet he will be a crowd pleaser even if he isn’t technically sound: 23
Roshon and Chelsie: I expect alot from these two tonight, I do except them to get ” help ” from the judges since he is family ( unfortanantly ) he should do well with the Samba: 25
Sherri and Val: Sherri is hillarious but I also respect her because I know she has been through alot but her faith in God got her through, the Rumba will probably be somewhat like Niecy’s, more spiritual, less sexy. 24
Melissa and Maks: Errrrr, jury is out. She had trouble with the Quickstep’s speed so she could easily suffer with Jive too, atleast she is getting them both out of the way. 20
Gavin and Karina: I reaallly am worried for them. This is the first week he has to be serious and I guess sexy in the Rumba. I don’t expect much but maybe they will suprise. 18
Katherine and Mark: Maaaaannn, is she sitting pretty. If she can Jive and Foxtrot good she should be able to Waltz AWESOMELY, I just hope Mark doesn’t do antthing screwy: 27
Gladys and Tristan: She should do well with the Foxtrot, plus after having her so close to the bottom last week, spare any disasters I don’t except her to get criticized to rashly again. 22
Maria and Derek: Maria still has the giggles and in the Rumba there is no room for giggles, In the Cha Cha and Quickstep she could lasugh and smile so she’ll have to break the giggle symdrome and even if she is tough, she has a broken rib poeple and you its bound to impare her, unfrontantly at some point if not taken care of. I still think she’ll do good though!! 24
William and Cheryl: Gosh, William + Salsa = Carrie Ann and Bruno feeling all tingly inside and giving out un-earthly high scores. I cant see it already. Hopefully, Len will keep it real. 27-30
Doanld and Peta: I except this too be a really sweet dance, similar to JR’s Rumba last season. He is always a crowd pleaser but in a diffrent way this week. I’m probably most excited to see him. He is also really developing as a dancer, so I except gooood things this week with the Rumba. 26
LOL, Courtney. You funny. ;D
Maria and Derek are dancing 2nd:
http://twitter.com/#!/mariamenounos/status/186887089613324288
I’m really curious too see everyone’s stories tonight, maybe more so than their dances.
In a radio interview today, Chelsie confirmed that MJ is the inspiration of their dance. She even admitted how hard it was to be around Jake (I couldn’t even stand to watch him).
This season should quiet all those Derek is favored comments but I doubt it. I am sure Maria will be fine but she is not chosen. As long as Derek sticks around because he does create the best dances for his partners of all abilities.
yeah Melissa…but it is getting old…first week Maria and Derek go first…third week they go second…and others only pimp spot…they should just rotate them…at least i take comfort in the fact that Maria’s injection won’t wear off till the second entry… and i know Derek will create something beautiful and special for Maria to showcast her and their amazing relationship and off the chart chemistry…
I do wonder if that might have played a role. She has a great story of working for her immigrant parents. Very relatable, IMO and she starts off the first of the rumbas. The judges were very generous to Sherri going second last week but doubt Maria will get such generous scores. Anyway, maybe they did think of her injury in this situation. But next week, Will and Katherine need to go early and Jack should go in the second half.
Maria just tweeted she’s dancing second.
Dang. I’m late again. D:
Heard Val and Sherri dance 7th.
@Harriett – was surprised Chelsie was as forthright about Pavelka in the interview as she has usually been very PC. I never understood TPTB’s reasoning for casting him and he did himself no favors by his nasty behavior and gossip-mongering. IMO, Chelsie learned a lot that season, as well as the seasons right after, and she’s put those lessons to good use.
Zach, good job! I’ll guess the scores again too. Who else wants to give it a try?
Jack and Anna – 23 (8,8,7)
Maria and Derek – 28 (10,9,9)
Roshon and Chelsie – 29 (10,10,9)
Sherri and Val – 25 (9,8,8)
Gavin and Karina – 20 (7,6,7)
Katherine and Mark – 29 (10,10,9)
Gladys and Tristan – 21 (7,7,7)
Melissa and Maks – 24 (8,8,8)
Jaleel and Kym – 25 (8,9,8)
William and Cheryl – 28 (9,9,10)
Donald and Peta – 28 (9,9,10)
Well, we had to know Sherri would go 7th or 9th….back 2 back with Maks.
Yeah, ridiculous really. Why keep doing that? They’re not joined at the hip…
Nex to the will and Kate pimpage, the back to back Maks and Val is so predictable. They never even did that with the Houghs. Maybe if they gave Maks Katherine, it would seem more Interesting. Though I still wish a ringer like Katherne went to Jonathan. I am tired of howler monkey ( great one, lol) choreography.
The story this season seems to be the level of dance which went down in week 2. Some did improve though. I wonder if they will keep the overscoring to keep up the whole such a great level of dancing this season.
Pretty high scores there Vogue…Why so many 10s? ^^;;
@Elsee – Did one of them tweet that? I don’t see anything on Val or Sherri’s timelines. Source, please 🙂
always Vogue…i love this game..but it turns out i am not very good at it..since i am not voting with my vajayjay .. i will give a try though:
#Jack & Anna – 8-8-8
#Maria & Derek – as much as i would love for them to get the first 10 of the season…i don’t see that happening tonight…so 9-8-9 ..as i already see Len saying not enough hip action
#Roshon & Chelsie – 9-9-10
#Sherrie & Val – 8-8-9
#Gavin & Karina – 7-7-8
#Katherine & Mark – 10-9-9
#Gladys & Tristan – 8-8-9
#Melissa & Maks – 8-7-8
#Jaleel & Kym – 9-9-9
#William & Cheryl – 10-9-10
#Donald & Peta – 8-9-9
i am so eager to see the team of my heart doing the Rumba…i think that insane chemistry that they have will come in handy in this dance… here is me hoping for a little Menough luv!!
Court, I know Lizzie tweeted it about them and I think I recall seeing Mak’s tweet as well.
It was Lizzie.
I don’t know Tony? Just my guess being we have some great dancers this season.
Elara, good job too. 😉
I wonder what Jaleel is doing for this dance. Jaleel and Kym keep saying that they’ve got something special planned and tricks up their sleeve. Jaleel said today that we’d want to record it. Surely they’re not going to pull Urkel out for a rumba. Though I could see him coming out as Steve, drinking some cool juice, and then transforming into Stefan for the rumba. Ha, that may be a bit of a stretch, but I normally wouldn’t equate tricks with a rumba or personal story week.
Here you go, Courtney:
Lizzie Grubman
RT @ValCFans: @iamValC & @SherriEShepherd dance 7th tonight. Don’t miss it! EST start voting at 8pm!
Jaleel who? Me thinks Donald stole some of Jaleel’s thunder. I know I was super excited when the cast was announced about Jaleel and all of a sudden poof excitements gone. And I don’t know if any of the negative media this week will be helping his cause. He better blow it out of the park tonight.
Ugh, Maria is in the crap shot…
Btw, I love reading all your comments. 🙂
Maria in 2nd is not good news, but hopefully D can pull off a good rumba for her! Go Menough!!
:::snort::: Derek could get a woman with no legs as a partner and they would still call her a ringer. And I would still call them stupid. I don’t anticipate any of this changing any time soon. 🙂
@Deena
I’m was suprised too that Chelsie did say something, but I do not blame her at all for saying Jake got under her skin from the get go. Now, I feel bad for voting for her that season since Jake annoyed her so much. She was honest but tactiful. After Jake, she got Michael Bolton who had some attitude but not to Jake’s degree. I am just so happy she got someone who can dance and she likes working with this season.
I’m curious to see if Roshon and Chelsie got to meet some of the Jackson family based on one of Roshon’s tweets “Wooooooooowwww today is one of the most amazing days of my life . #OnAnotherLevel” (posted on Friday)
Yep – I think Beka gets the award for Best New Catchphrase of The Week. 🙂
blush 🙂
Oh, I think going 2nd in one of the “doom” positions absolutely matters for Maria, just like any other contestant. Especially on a night when the viewers will get wrapped up in over the top emotional stories, and forget about the dancing and what they saw 2 hours earlier. Also, going 2nd after already going 1st says so much more to me in general about Maria’s fanbase and that she’s not a priority for tptb. In other words, if you are a Derek & Maria fan, you better vote like hell!!!!
Does it say a lot if she goes second about her fans? I only say this because maybe her injury is playing a part. Maybe. Though I agree on a night like tonight it is easy to get lost in the mix so mportant to vote.
I am not surprised Chelsie said that about Jake. She said something similar in other interviews. Jake of corse took issue and bad mouthed her. I side with Chelsie on this one because Jake’s history of behavior says he was the difficult one who probably took issue with someone young criticizing him. Even though, um Jake, she is the expert and your teacher!
You misunderstand me, dj and I think you misunderstand and place far too much emphasis on something that is not remotely certain. By all means, vote like hell…but don’t start singing the swan song.
Good dancers are eventually going to have to go in the bad spots. That’s the way it is.
Well some dancers are going at the end of the show every week, and Maria has gone at the beginning twice in 3 weeks. It’s a proven fact that people who are getting a lot of votes are saved until the end because producers want to keep their fans tuned in. You can see that season after season where the eventual finalists and winners were saved until the last part of the show almost every week. So maybe you don’t think Maria going at the beginning twice in 3 weeks means anything, but I do. But I certainly hope you are right and I’m wrong!!
Guys, running order is not the be-all-end-all. It can help & it can hurt, but it’s only going to be a serious problem if the person stuck in a crappy position is not getting very many votes to begin with. And Heidi’s right – with so many good dancers this season, eventually some of them are going to end up going in the crap spots, even if they’re good and getting votes. Keep in mind too that we’ve got 5 rumbas tonight – they need to space them out. I’m guessing they first decided to end the show with Donald, and then kinda based the rest of the running order around that, alternating back-and-forth between rumbas and non-rumbas. Something else to consider? The stage setups for the various dances. Sometimes the nature of the props on stage necessitate the dancers going in a certain order, in order to allow the stagehands to get things set up & torn down in a timely fashion. No point in putting 2 dances with elaborate stage setups back-to-back, and making the stagehands scramble and risk not being done in time. Vote like crazy, yes; but don’t start writing Maria’s eulogy yet, either 😉
Of course Maria and Derek are going 2nd. Which also means they’ll probably be lowballed with the scores and her story probably won’t be sad enough and they’ll probably be forgotten.
Whatever. That means I don’t have to watch the rest of the show. I don’t have to watch Katherine get a 30; I don’t have to hear those women scream for William and watch him get a 29; and I don’t have to watch those judges wish they had “11” paddles for them.
I do think we forget that the whole point is to put on the best SHOW. And, as Courtney pointed out, that means you have to consider things like staging, alternating styles, music… Ultimately, they’re putting on a live TV show, and the show comes first.
Exactly, vote for your faves including Maria if you are worried, lol. I agree with what you mentioned Courtney on spacing the dances and remember even Kristi went early once in awhile, lol.
No, actually DJ it’s NOT a proven fact that getting a lot of votes are saved to the end – plenty of people have danced last and been voted out shortly thereafter. Hasselhoff, David, Pam Anderson to name a few.
It’s about BUZZ and not necessarily votes. I don’t think that Brooke went last on a regular basis, neither did Ricki. In fact, I don’t know if Ricki ever went last.
Jesus, you guys are killing me. Do you actually read what we write around here or are hysterics just the order of the day?
Yep, we read it, but some people just see what they want to see, unfortunately!
Maria said that the injection she got last week wore off before she danced so late in the program. I wonder if the 2nd spot tonight has something to do with that, along with the staging etc. They may have made it a priority for her to be dancing sooner than later.
I didn’t say dance last, I said the last part of the show, as in the last half or last quarter. Like Kristi Yamaguchi, Kirstie Alley, etc. consistently did. I could look up all the statistics on this, but I don’t have time. So you don’t have to worry about any more ‘hysterics’ from me.
Our statistics also say that going first is good – which Maria did week 1. In week 2, she danced in the latter half of the show. This week is her first week in a crappy spot. So I’m not seeing the problem.
Looking forward to a great show!! Its been a fun season so far!
Good Luck Maria & Derek! You two are more than Menough for me-LOL
They have such great chemistry so it should translate into a sexy performance! Let’s get ready to Rumba!!!-Woohoo
Roshon has been in the first half of the show all three weeks. I wonder if that may be because TPTB are assuming that his predominant fans are young in age and may have earlier bedtimes.
*Hands Jug of Champagne To Heidi* Here Hun, take this and I’ll run a bubble bath. Beka have any left over cheesecake for our Princess?.
You should be able to chug-a-lug , gobble and bubble before the show starts! 😉
They also put Roshon “in jeopardy” which was a way of pimping him if he’s not getting enough votes – but apparently it’s not THAT important to them.
Then, like we’ve said 5 thousand times, they aren’t going to want 5 rumbas right in a row so there has to be a bit of juggling.
Maybe “he’s been dancing most of his life” status doesn’t play well with voters….or do they just complain about female ringers paired with DH?
Princess Heidi, do you like Chocolate Cheesecake, or Boozy? – I’ll send it right over. and Ms. Taz, some to you as well. In fact, let them all eat cheesecake, and may the dancing odds be ever in their favor. 😉 seriously, though…can’t wait.
@Beka: xoxoxoo Knew I could count on ya Hun!
Booze.
Question: Are the dancers able to select the dance they do for personal story week or just the music?
I’m thinking about saving cheesecake for tomorrow & going straight to Bailey’s with my hot chocolate – or hot chocolate with the Bailey’s. 😉
You are right that they have to split rumbas and the up-beat dances to make it more interesting for us viewers. I’m worried for some of the rumba-ers tonights.
Roshon might benefit from being 4th after a 1 samba (I think Jack might perform well but not so technically) and 2 rumbas (i’m guessing another rumba after Maria), especially if Gavin is the 3rd rumba (sorry but I don’t think rumba will be Gavin’s dance). Sorry if I offend, but this is just my warped over-analytical thoughts:)
Opps, just found the answer to my question reading further into the thread. Can’t fault celebs for choosing the dances that suit/them their story. In a way it’s nice to learn a little more about the contestants, but I do wish it was in a way that didn’t screw up the dance order so early in the season. Seems to me it would make more sense to have women dance one type and men another so we can sorta compare apples to apples.
Is 8 the new 6 ?
Just one gal’s opinion after tonight:
– Zowee, there was some MASSIVE overscoring going on tonight. And with that, the Three Stooges have tossed this over to the fans. I’ll be interested in the “Dancing by the Numbers” post, but I’d be surprised if more than 10K votes per million separate the top & bottom of the scoreboard…. THIS could be the week for the “shock elimination”…
– Jaleel lost points in my eyes tonight… That “sob-sob-sob…. I just want to entertain people… sob-sob-sob”. I’m sorry, but he needs to take a Valium. 😯 It looked desperate to me.
Now I understand why TPTB had Maria dance 2nd, Gladys dance 3rd and Roshon dance 4th — no tears.
I have to say I actually appreciated the fact that Gladys and Roshon did tribute dances. Too bad TPTB couldn’t have put one of those dances later on in the show to lighten things up.
How do they determine when each team does each dance? My recollection is that in the early seasons, there were only two dances in each show (for instance, the waltz or the salsa one week, the jive or a rumba the next). Now we have three, four, or five different dances in each show. It was strange to see Melissa doing a jive (odd sort of jive in my book, but that’s beside the point), Katherine doing a waltz, and Gladys doing a foxtrot when everyone else had either the samba or rumba. The jive seemed particularly out of place in this lineup, which may be why the opening choreography looked as though Maks wished they’d gotten a rumba.
