DWTS Season 14 Stats Class – Week 5 Predicted Scores

This is an interesting week. Latin week isn’t a new concept… but normally it would be the Samba and the Rumba… This time around “Latin Week” has an Argentine Tango, the Samba, and the Salsa… Umm oook. Anyway you’re hear to see the predicted scores, not my mini-rant about TPTB changing things up this season… so ONWARDS!

As a REMINDER we are in Week 5, which means that the data that the following predicted scores are based off of, are from the middle third of the previous seasons. If you’re wondering what this means see the following breakdown:
– First “Third”: Weeks 1 through 4
– Middle “Third”: Weeks 4 through 7
– Last “Third”: Weeks 7 through 10

This is to keep the progression as accurate as possible. So if there is a dance that happened in a previous season but in a later week (like Week 9), it wouldn’t make sense to consider it in the predicted scores because the skill level is different between Week 5 and Week 9.

I’m gunning for accuracy here people… well as accurate as subjectivity can be.

MELISSA GILBERT
Dance: Salsa
Average Scores:
– Age: 24.000
– Occupation: 21.000
– Professional Partner: N/A
Predicted Score / Rank: 23 / 9th
Comments: The Salsa hasn’t been done all that often in the past seasons (only Seasons 8, 9, and 12), the only other actress in their 40s to have done the Salsa was back in Season 9: Debi Mazar with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, but that was a Week 1 dance and they got a 16… so not a very good comparison. Season 12’s Kirstie Alley also did the Salsa with Maksim in Week 8 and got a 25, so it’s fair to say that Melissa would be rather close in score if not a point or two below that of Kirstie’s which would equate to the predicted score.

DONALD DRIVER
Dance: Argentine Tango
Average Scores:
– Age: 24.429
– Occupation: 21.500
– Professional Partner: N/A
Predicted Score / Rank: 23 / 8th
Comments: Considering that the Argentine Tango has only been around since Season 8 and not all celebs have gotten the dance… the data is pretty scarce. The only other NFL player in their 30s to have done the Argentine Tango was Season 10’s Chad Ochocinco with Cheryl Burke and they got a 24. So knowing that I think Donald could get about the same score… since his predicted score is about the same. But considering that Donald seems to be hitting his stride I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulls off a better score than predicted.

GLADYS KNIGHT
Dance: Samba
Average Scores:
– Age: 23.000
– Occupation: 24.000
– Professional Partner: N/A
Predicted Score / Rank: 24 / 7th
Comments: Gladys seems to have a lot of energy when she did the ChaCha in Week 1, I’m sure she’ll have that same exuberance with the Samba. But the Samba isn’t for someone of her advance age… and it’s nothing like the ChaCha… I really think the predicted score is too high… but that’s also difficult to tell.

JALEEL WHITE
Dance: Samba
Average Scores:
– Age: 24.417
– Occupation: 23.143
– Professional Partner: 23.500
Predicted Score / Rank: 24 / 6th
Comments: Jaleel hasn’t been able to impress much since Week 1, struggling in dances that doesn’t allow him to be Mr. Smooth, and I’m afraid this is going to be another case of him struggling with a dance with a lot of hip bouncing and movement. I think the predicted score is going to be a bit high unless Jaleel figures out how to capture the joy again in the Samba… which he might be able to do… but I think the weight of the competition is getting to him.

GAVIN DEGRAW
Dance: Samba
Average Scores:
– Age: 24.417
– Occupation: 24.000
– Professional Partner: 23.200
Predicted Score / Rank: 24 / 5th
Comments: The only other male singer in their 30s that has done the Samba at this time in the season was Season 8’s Chuck Wicks w/ Julianne Hough and he got a 27 and it was Week 7, this is Week 5. Will Gavin reach that score? Hard to say… I like him in the smoother dances in general than anything upbeat, and I think this dance is going to be a struggle for him. So I’m expecting his score to be lower than shown.

ROSHON FEGAN
Dance: Salsa
Average Scores:
– Age: 24.000
– Occupation: N/A
– Professional Partner: 24.000
Predicted Score / Rank: 24 / 4th
Comments: Roshon has been doing rather well in the dances thus far… mixing a bit of modern movements into the ballroom dancing, and knowing that I think his predicted score is pretty low. I think he’s going to score higher, hell, he better knock this out of the park else he may find himself out of the running.

KATHERINE JENKINS
Dance: Argentine Tango
Average Scores:
– Age: 24.429
– Occupation: 26.000
– Professional Partner: 23.000
Predicted Score / Rank: 24 / 3rd
Comments: The female singers in their 30s seem to have no trouble with the Argentine Tango: Season 8’s Lil Kim with Derek Hough got a 27, as well as Season 9’s Mya with Dmitry Chaplin while Season 11’s Brandy with Maksim Chmerkovskiy got a 30… but that was in Week 9. So I’m expecting Katherine to do far better than her predicted score… but considering she struggled with intensity last week… hopefully she’ll pick it up this week.

WILLIAM LEVY
Dance: Argentine Tango
Average Scores:
– Age: 24.429
– Occupation: 30.000
– Professional Partner: 24.500
Predicted Score / Rank: 26 / 2nd
Comments: William has a lot to prove this week and I’m hoping that the fire was lit underneath him after what happened during Rock Week. In this dance he has to hold his own against Cheryl and he’s got to do well. Cheryl has done Argentine Tango in stage productions like Forever Tango, so there’s a higher bar of expectation from her as a teacher as well. If all goes well he could score pretty high… but as it stands I see him scoring a point or two lower than predicted.

MARIA MENOUNOS
Dance: Salsa
Average Scores:
– Age: 27.000
– Occupation: N/A
– Professional Partner: N/A
Predicted Score / Rank: 27 / 1st
Comments: Brooke Burke got a 28 for her Salsa in Season 7 with Derek Hough in Week 9 which isn’t fair to Maria but it’s all we got… so Maria has quite a bit to live up to. She’s been doing rather well… so here’s hoping that she’ll be able to keep it up despite the injuries that she’s been accumulating over the course of the season thus far.
