DWTS 15, Week 8 – Power Rankings

Not a whole lot to say about tonight, other than that everything felt incredibly frantic as they rush, rush, rushed to fit 14 routines into 2 hours (which was no bueno, considering the ballroom round was drastically cut short and the danced seemed to be over before they even started), and that the judges did their usual wacky scoring (which really means nothing, considering how close the margins are).  Literally, guys, this is an even bigger battle of the fanbases this time, as there are even MORE points and even SMALLER margins than the week Sabrina got sent packing.  So if somebody’s not getting the votes – methinks they’re pretty much doomed.

1.) Shawn & Derek – They’ve got the 2nd highest point total from the past two weeks, and in perhaps an even bigger advantage – a bunch of pissed off fans.  Ok, so maybe there wasn’t a ton of samba in their trio – I still think there was enough there to warrant at least an 8, and it was still a wildly entertaining routine that actually evoked more of the excitment of a pro dance to me than just a regular dance with a celeb.  The way Len was acting, it was as if Derek & Mark had walked center stage and defecated or something…while Shawn watched.  And the whole “If you go home tomorrow night, don’t blame me, blame them!” comment? Was that REALLY necessary? Just felt like a low blow and not any sort of constructive criticism.  I really think Derek probably knew they were taking a risk and choreographed more of a crowd/audience-pleasing routine than a judge-pleasing routine, intentionally – it was a calculated risk, maybe to jump-start the fans into voting.  But I don’t think he was expecting Len to take it so personally.  As for their Viennese waltz – despite it being awfully short, I thought it was quite pretty and very fluid, and Shawn had some butter-smooth turns and showed a lot of emotion.  I think they’re probably the safest from the double elim tomorrow…seems like they’re getting a lot of votes and still pretty decent scores, in the great scheme of things.

2.) Emmitt & Cheryl – I find myself drawing a bit of a blank on his Viennese waltz, despite the fact that I have several notes written about it – “smooth & fluid, didn’t see the alleged mistake, not very high level of difficulty”.  I daresay that it probably left me lukewarm: no big problems, and pleasant to watch, but nothing particularly impactful or impressive.  Just as I said last week, I think the biggest problem I have with Emmitt at this point is just that he seems to have plateaued in terms of difficulty, and Cheryl really isn’t pushing him as hard as she should choreographically at this phase of the competition.  Most of the other couples are pulling out all the stops – but Emmitt & Cheryl seem to be sticking primarily to the “Do easy choreo and just charm everyone’s pants off!” method.  Their trio – ok, very cute, and I definitely enjoyed it more than I did Gilles’ trio….but 30? Really? I saw an awful lot of backleading & stationary ass-shaking going on…I think many other couples had much more difficult steps in their dances, and they did them with much more impressive execution.  I guess the judges were maybe judging more on entertainment value than level of difficulty and content (unless your name is Shawn, in which case it’s ALL about content).  I guess I’ve just kind of given up on trying to understand the judges’ motives at this point 😛 Regardless, I think he’s likely safe tomorrow, but things could get dicey next week… Read more..

Dancing With The Stars Kirstie Alley Promotes “The Art Of Men” At Barnes & Noble (Photos)

Wow, Kirstie Alley looks stunning, doesn’t she?!! Sunday, she posed for pictures while promoting her book “The Art Of Men” at Barnes & Noble in Los Angeles, California. She also signed her book for fans. You can see more pictures of Kirstie at this event at the Daily Mail and Getty Images. I love her in black and when she wears her signature leopard spikes. 😀

Oh, and speaking of Getty Images, they also have photos of Kirstie from Jimmy Kimmell LIVE last week. I thought this photo was especially adorable. *awww moment!

Dancing with the Stars Season 15 – Week 8 Predictions

Yay the Trio Challenge **rolls eyes**. ANYWAY As always take the below table with a grain of salt:

Now for the eighth week of competition in Season 8: Melissa originally received a 21 because she was injured that week and as thus her score was based off of the dance rehearsal footage taken earlier that day (or weekend).

I find it rather interesting that Emmitt is the only one that has not done either one of the dances that he is assigned this week in his original season.

Kelly Monaco did the Viennese Waltz as a group dance in her season but it was not scored.

Now… throughout the week last week people were asking what the cumulative scores were up to that point… so I decided to provide the following table for your information only:

My life can be summed up in the following two quotes: 1) "I am married to engineering and am its faithful wife by day, but at night my wanderlust takes hold and the arts becomes my jealous paramour." and... 2) "Engineering is my safety net. Writing is my passion. Acting is my escape when the other two become too much." So where does dancing fit in? Pretty much anywhere at this point... =)

Emmitt Smith On Dancing With The Stars: “The quality of the show has elevated” (Videos)

Emmitt Smith is so humble and a class act as always. In this new interview wth KTLA, he relates football with Dancing With The Stars. He “recognizes” the competition and tries to challenge himself every week (just like when he played football)…but, not without “soreness” including his toe (lol). The crew at KTLA try to break down the competition by saying Shawn and Gilles are his biggest, but, Emmitt won’t have it. He says THEY (his cast mates) ARE ALL of his competition and that they are all so good. He talks on Cheryl and how much their relationship has grown too. Great interview and one of my favorites now of the season. See why…. Read more..

Karina Smirnoff And Apolo Ohno Hope To Make Brooke Burke Smile Tonight On DWTS (Video)

Celebuzz interviewed Karina Smirnoff and Apolo Ohno about Brooke Burke’s announcement of her Thyroid Cancer. They lend their support for her and explain how she’s doing now. They hope to make her smile tonight.

ETA1: And blow is a snippet from Aoplo’s new blog at People.com. He talks of how challenging he and Karina’s new dances have been to learn. Get ready for a special entrance to their individual dance tonight. Here is more….

I take every single week as if it’s our last week ever on the show. I think that allows me to really perform and entertain at the best level I possibly can. It’s fun, but it’s tough. I’m not sleeping much, but it’s good.

If we were to get eliminated, I absolutely would not regret the experience. The show and the journey and the things you go through are really amazing. But I’m not even thinking about that. If Tom [Bergeron] calls my name on Tuesday and tells me to come to the bottom of the stairs, I will tell him I am fine where I am and I think I’ll stay up there for a little while. I’m not going to move.

I’m hurting this week. This week is hard. We have two full dances. Karina [Smirnoff] and I have the tango, which is our individual dance. We’re dancing to a great song by Bonnie Tyler called “I Need a Hero.”

I’m trying out this entrance to the dance, and I’ve never really done it on the show before. I’m coming in from the corner of the skybox. It’s a little crazy. I’m told to come in like a superhero or action figure. I’m not really the best with heights. That’s why I’ve always stayed low to the ground.

The other dance we have is our trio dance, and we have Sasha Farber, who is one of the professionals on the show. We’re doing a jive to “Grease Lightning,” which I love. The number is sick, but I have two Russian dancers who forget that I’m not a pro. So they’re putting in this crazy, fast routine that normally a pro would have. My hip flexors feel like guitar strings right now. They are gone.

DWTS Week 8 Gilles Marini Embracing His ‘Top Gun’ Character And More (Video, Blog)

Gilles Marini answers questions from the fans in this new video release by ABC. He talks of his two favorite dances. One fan asks how much sleep he’s been getting. With pulling double duty doing Dancing With The Stars and filming a new series, he’s only getting 4-5 hours of sleep…which most of them are spent counting steps. Another fans asks where Gilles gets his inspiration. He says he’s been doing the “storylines”, but, he give 80% props to Peta for coming up with the dance and routine. At the end Gilles tells us how much he’s enjoyed dancing on Dancing With The Stars. He thanks all of his fans!!

Also, Gilles partner, Peta Murgatroyd, has written a new blog for People.com. Below is a take on their two new dances. Be sure to read her blog in full because she also talks of the confidence she has in Gilles, how much she is inspired by him, and more.

This week we have the quickstep as our solo dance and we have a trio salsa with Chelsie Hightower. I’m so glad we chose Chelsie, because she’s just a little firecracker. She’s going to add so much dynamic to the show.

Rehearsals thus far are going great. We have finished up both dances now, but we are perfecting them so that Gilles doesn’t have any worries when he goes out on the floor. We are dancing to “Danger Zone” from Top Gun for our quickstep. It’s really fun. I think Gilles is really embracing the character of it. In the dance, we run around the whole floor and never stop at all.

I have no idea who is going to go home during double elimination this week, regardless of who has a good score or who doesn’t have a good score. It’s really hard to tell at this point in the competition because everyone is amazing.

Picture above from Gilles’ facebook is of Peta, Gilles, and Chelsie getting ready for their Trio dance yesterday before camera blocking.

Tony Dovolani And Melissa Rycroft Staying Focused On Dancing With The Stars (Rehearsal Video)

It was such a rough week on Dancing With The Stars last week for Tony Dovolani and Melissa Rycroft. They still can’t believe they finished at the top with a score of 29 and that they won the Swing Marathon to boot. Tony and Melissa just had a goal of making it to Week 4, but, now here they are at Week 8 and they are still in the competition. They don’t know what it is (the dancing or personality?), but, they are enjoying this ride “so much”. They really want that Mirror Ball and to win, but, they know it’s 4 eliminations away and that they have to stay focused. Lots more from this cute couple in a new rehearsal video at People.com. You can see them dancing too. Beautiful!!
