ABC President Paul Lee Speaks About Dancing With The Stars At TV Critics Press Tour
The TV Critics Association Press Tour is taking place this week – today is Disney/ABC day. ABC President PauL Lee answered questions on Dancing With The Stars. Here’s what we’ve gathered at twitter….
1. Speaking on the All Stars, Lee said, “It turns out that people want to see bad dancing as much as they do good dancing.”” ( via TV Critic Chuck Barney)
2. At this time, ABC still plans on Spring and Fall airings of Dancing With The Stars. “There’s a lot of life left in the show” (via Diane Gordon and TV Guide).
When we know more, we’ll be sure to update this post.
Thanks to Miss Heidi for her help!! Here she is with more…
Heidi: Can I just say “Duh”? 😀 As someone else commented on twitter, they aren’t going to cut down on a show that is still scoring 16 million viewers in this day and age. No way. TV Line has a bit more of the quote:
Falling under the “lot to do” part of that statement:
* The lackluster ratings for the all-star edition ofDancing With the Stars. “Turns out people want to see bad dancing as much as they want to see good dancing,” Lee deduced, later adding, “We still intend to keep it going twice a year. It’s still a big, broad crowd pleaser. We think there’s a lot of life left in it.”
OK, good – I like 2 seasons per yr. We’ll see what develops. Thank you, intrepid reporters
LOL YW Faby. 😉
Yay! Thanks so much for this. Nearly 17 million viewers is still one of the most watched tv shows! And I swear I remember some episodes getting down to 11 million or so, and that’s still great in this day and age, when very few shows get even that many.
You guys ROCK! with all this delicious scoop 🙂
I don’t “good dancing”had anything to do with the view or the ratings. I guess they didn’t learn anything
A-MEN, Laila.
They want to see bad dancing as well as good? Does that mean Bristol comes back every season? I’m sure Pam Anderson would be open to it as well…. Returning “favorites” in every season? They can take the survivor approach.
Why does this have “spin doctor” written all over it? Sounds like a political non-denial, denial. They know the chips are falling off the mirror ball, and they are scrambling to find the glue. A young audience? Should I be offended? Yeah, I think so.
Yeah, I’m pretty perturbed at the comments on people wanting to see bad dancing, and on the younger demo. Makes me think they still don’t get it. 🙁 I’m going to try to stay hopeful. I love this show (or at least what it USED to be), and I hope they get back to that.
