DWTS Kym Johnson In New Spring Season of Celebrity Apprentice Australia?
Channel 9 facebook is reporting that Kym Johnson of Dancing With The Stars might be cast in the next Celebrity Apprentice Australia. Other candidates are celebrities Brian Mannix, John Steffensen, Stephanie Rice, Peter Berner, Dermott Brereton, Peter Everett, Layla Subritzky, Prue MacSween, Prinnie Stevens, Rob Mills, Dawn Fraser, Jeff Fenech or Roxy Jacenko (seen above). Last season, Celebrity Apprentice Australia aired in April. According to Reality Ravings, filming begins this week. As several have been commenting at twitter (Sally and @DWTSGossip), does this mean Kym Johnson won’t be dancing in Dancing With The Stars Season 16? If so, how do you feel about it? If anyone can shed more light on this news, please let us know in the comments section.
Sad if true. I love Kym and hope she will be back!
Aww I’m really happy for her and hope she does great!!! She looks amazing in the cast picture! In an article I saw earlier it said that they were starting filming this week but the show doesn’t premiere until April. So maybe they will tape the whole show in the next few weeks and she will still be able to do dwts this season? When do rehearsals start? Dwts premieres March 18th.
If the Australian version mirrors the US version (and it probably does), then it should only take about a month to actually tape – which would still leave the door open for her to do DWTS. She’d be done right around the time the cast of season 16 is likely to be announced.
And to answer your question, Heather: rehearsals usually start about 3 weeks prior to the premiere – so probably February 25. And the cast announcement usually happens sometime in the week prior to the start of rehearsals – so probably Feb. 18 or 19, maybe Feb. 20 if they’re really dragging their feet.
So yeah, Kym could be free to do season 16 – even if she makes it to the finals of Celebrity Apprentice, she still would be done in time to start rehearsals with everyone else.
It’s going to be cutting it very close. Nathan was saying on twitter that our version takes five weeks. Even if she doesn’t last, all the competitors usually are back for the last challenge, too.
I’m starting to wonder. All the random tweets I’ve seen around are making me start to wonder if there will be a wholesale pro change out or some such thing.
Almost time for me to start on “pro watch”. Guess I better hurry up with those other three posts I have planned. π
Yep, according to a tweet by Claudia Jordan, a contestant in the up coming All Star Season of ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’, the entire show only takes five weeks to shoot. The question is does the Australian version do the same? Even so, that would be very close to DWTS 16, AND what if she makes the finals or is under contract to be present at the CA finale. It is beginning to look like she might be out to me.
THIS^^^ π and same for Court too for what she might have planned.
Happy for Kim, hope she does well!!!
Also am wondering how many pros are coming back for the next season.
Yeah, it looks like it will be razor-close at best. I agree with Court in that if the filming is 4 weeks, she could just barely make it. If it goes longer, I think she’s toast as far as S16 goes. π
I’m also thinking like Heidi – I wonder if TPTB ate going for a wholesale change-out of pros, taking younger, fresher faces for that “younger viewer”. At least for me, Derek and Kym are the two main reasons I watch. If both are gone, I don’t know… And if I do watch, I’ll be more of a casual viewer.
Humbug. I think I’ll go drink wine out of the bottle. π
Good on her for making money for her charity if so, an good luck to her. Let’s just hope she does better than when she was in the Australian Survivor – off the island, first!
I think the relative newbies – Peta, Val, Tristan – will be back. If Derek is gone (and it sounds like he’s shooting his and Jules Pilot teaser right now), and Cheryl is taking a season off, I’m wondering about Maks, Tony, Karina, Kym…and Mark, to a lesser extent. This will be Mark’s 12th season on the show and the others have been around longer than that. Not to mention that they aren’t getting any younger, in dancer years. Mark is only 26, but the others are well over 30 and have been on the show forever.
Not that I think this is a good idea – just that it’s something I can see them doing. Like ripping off the band aid. Unfortunately, Peta is not a strong choreographer and Tristan is rather un-tested. Val has serious potential, I think, based on how he was talking at the end of last season. It will be interesting to see, for sure.
Maybe this will launch some new prospects for Kym in the future. I adore her, but maybe physically and mentally it’s a great time for her to venture other avenues. Good for her.
As far as Val, I really do see potential in him, minus his bro Maks and add his shirt on more often…. And he shows real promise.
Maybe this season of pros will be just as surprising as the cast of celebrities. Either way I am stoked for this new season to start.
If she is out, that’s one more female pro spot to fill….I’d rather see Lacey back than a troupe member!!!
If Lacey hasn’t been a regular to this point – and she hasn’t – then I doubt she would get first choice. And there is no reason for them to have to stick to the troupe either. Julianne, Derek and Mark were never in any troupe – they were just great ballroom dancers. I’m sure there are others out there.
Sandy, in talking about Val I was speaking only creatively. He has the same issues (possibly worse) that his brother does in terms of opening his mouth. And really, dude – you ain’t street. Spare me. π
I really hope Kym will be back next season, the show is nothign withour the pros…well in my opinion at least….and since we are talking pro watch I really really hope Anna Trebunskaya comes back next season, and actually gets a good partner!
@ Nathan (#5): Kym having to return for the final shouldn’t be a problem. Since the show doesn’t being to air till the beginning of April, DWTS should be over by the time CA is ready for their finale (assuming their finale is live, as it is in the US.)
@Sally comment #8 Agreed! If Karina is not there for S16 my interest would be pretty much minimal!
Oh nooo, i will miss Kym so much. I think there will be a major change of pros this season. When i saw Louis crying after his rumba with Sabrina, i thought – going out on a high note, he know this is his last dance on the show as a partnering pro. I don’t think Louis and Tony will be back. Probably Kym and Derek neither, and i will miss them so bad.
we’ll see at least 4 new pros, i think.
I’m excited for some new Pros. I thought Tristan and Peta were both good additions, and I agree that Val has big potential if he can get his head out of his a$$ LOL (in my opinion, of course). I would love to see what Henry can bring as a Pro, and would welcome some new faces as well. Love most of our current Pros, don’t get me wrong, but I think the show could use an infusion of new blood. And many of the current group could use a break. Glad Cheryl is out for a season, should do her good. Think Tony should sit out a season as well.
Cast announcement on Feb 19? that would be a great birthday treat for me! Is Ryan O’Neal still in the running? I think he’d be a good addition to the cast. Ditto for Christie Brinkley. Most everyone else that has been rumored so far are people I’ve never heard of – showing my age, I guess ;o) but bring them on, I say. Come one come all, show us your stuff, I’m ready!
we should be getting some serious rumors/leaks coming up soon, no? with just a little over 2 weeks from announcement? I know ya’ll will be on top of any, love this site – my one stop for all things DWTS.
Vogue and I have been watching pretty closely and they are keeping a much tighter lid on things than they have in the past. Gotta love sites that proclaim that the reveal will be during February sweeps. Um…that’s the entire MONTH and it’s now the 30th of January. π Hardly breaking news. But that’s how scarce news is this time around.
At least we didn’t do a “breaking news” on Peta’s hair color. π
LOL!!!^^^
Amazing how a certain website whose name shall not be mentioned just now picked up on the rotten timing of all this. Why, if I didn’t know better, I’d swear the site-that-shall-not-be-named is just ripping-off our incredible mods here at PureDWTS. π (Where is that danged sarcasm font when you need it?)
One more thing. Just for giggles (and because I’m such a Kym fan-girl), I went back and browsed the timeline of one of the last Celebrity Apprentice Aus contestants – Lauryn Eagle. Looks like in 2012, first day of shooting was Jan 16; they wrapped on Feb 20. 5 weeks. I’m thinking Kym is out… π
As long as she is back for the fall season, I’m good. My worst fear is that they lose Maks this season and don’t ask Tony back. That might be too many fan favs to lose at one shot since Derek is gone too.
As for Louis, I wouldn’t mind him as a potential fourth judge sometime down the road or a replacement if one of the judges we have now ever quits.
Kym is one of my favorites but I like seeing her go on to other things as well. I don’t want to see my favorites with potential be on this show forever. I hope Kym does many other things that make her happy and add to her career.
I can’t wait to see if there’s a pro shake-up. That would be great. I want to keep Tristan and Val of the newer ones but wouldn’t miss Peta, I don’t think she can choreograph well and she seems to be full of herself which is not a good combo to have imo. Karina would be missed though I don’t think she’s going anywhere, I think she’ll have a long career outside of dwts, I hope. Maks, done with him a while ago. Still love me some Tony but I can see the producers thinking he’s had a good run and want a new, fresh face.
