Dancing with the Stars Season 16, Week 7 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Our gimmick of the week (this is becoming a bad habit) is Immunity followed by dance challenges for three points which you can read about here and here. What a bunch of…

Anyway, thanks to the Latin dances that were already performed this season, Latin night has the potential to be one big snooze. FOUR rumbas??  Luckily, the good dancers got more entertaining dances. Conversely, and unfortunately, the dancers who aren’t all that are dancing Rumba, which could easily be a disaster. A really BAD disaster. I think Jacoby was extremely lucky to get Salsa this particular week, as was Zendaya in getting Paso Doble. I would call Kellie and Derek lucky too, but she had three concerts this week. Derek is happy thus far so I guess it will be fine. But the lower tier are dancing rumba….oy veh.

I’ve made a guess at the dance order – I will likely be totally wrong, but I figure they will start with Kellie and end with Zendaya – the two dancers that are likely vying for immunity. Since it’s likely more beneficial to go last in this instance, my guess is that Zendaya will be the one.  Of course, if you go first and get a 30 (Zendaya) then you have a standard to measure everyone else against. I would give Aly a shot at immunity, like I did in previous posts, but it turns out that Mark is injured and Aly may well be dancing with Henry. Even if she’s not dancing with Henry, she’s practiced with him all week. Maybe for this reason SHE will be given the last spot.  I guess we’ll see. 🙂

DWTS16 Karina Smirnoff Attends Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation’s Celebrity Poker Tournament

Oh, @Jimmbboe is going to have a nice wake up call today! 😀 This weekend, Dancing With The Stars Karina Smirnoff attended the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation’s Celebrity Poker Tournament at Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, California. She was also pictured with actor Quinton Aaron at the event. You can view more pictures like the one above at Getty Images. So cute as always.

Also, for an extra treat, see Heavy.com as they are featuring some “Top 10 Facts You Need To Know” about Karina. I love some of the magazine spreads she’s done.

DWTS Mark Ballas Hurt In Rehearsals, Henry Byalikov May Step In To Dance Monday Night

Mark Ballas has penned a new blog at USA Today! Sadly note that he hurt his back this week while rehearsing for Dancing With The Stars. Troupe member Henry Byalikov may be filling in for him on Monday night. Here is more. Let’s hope Mark is going to be ok and heal up quickly!!

While trying a lift, I compressed two discs in my lower back and could hardly move for two days. The timing couldn’t be worse, being that we have to know four dances this week even though we will only be performing two.

I am writing this blog in rehearsal, on Saturday, right now, as I have been sidelined for most of the week. Luckily Henry Byalikov has stepped in, and may possibly dance for me on Monday if I can’t compete.

He has really been a great help and godsend this week, so to him I am grateful.

Good news is, I got my MRI results back and there is no damage to my spine or nerves, and the pain I am enduring is only muscular. The muscles are spasming and will take a few days (or weeks) to calm down. So there is still hope that I will dance.

Our solo dance is salsa this week. We have a great song and theme so I’m
super bummed to be hurt. It’s Latin night Monday, so everyone will be taking on sexy Latin dances and it promises to be a fun and entertaining night.

To read the full blog, see USA Today!

DWTS Season 16, Week 7 – The Details of Latin Week (Weigh In With Your Opinions)!

We’ve been having this discussion in an older post, and as a result some of you may have missed the new details that seem to be emerging about Latin Week. You can read some of the details in Vogue’s earlier post regarding DWTS Week 7, and you can also see the video of Henry discussing what he knows of Latin week here —> Henry talks Latin Week. It’s a short video – you can watch it for yourself and see what you make of it.

I’m posting this up here at the top to try to involve more people in the discussion (no trolling, though, kiddies). As I understand it, the high scoring couple is immune from elimination, right off the bat. Then, the second highest scoring couple gets first choice of who they want to dance against in a “challenge”. According to Derek’s blog, it seems this happens on Tuesday – but I’m not really sure how they’re going to work this. They have 7 couples doing one dance each in two hours?? That’s a whole bunch of free time for filler – as long as that filler is more dancing I guess I’m okay with that – but the results show could be a nightmare.

Anyway, the couples will be dancing either Cha Cha, Jive or Rumba. Not sure how it’s determined who does what, plus certain couples have already done some or all of these dances.

All Three
Kellie/Derek
Jacoby/Karina

Cha Cha and Jive
Zen/Val
Sean/Peta

Cha Cha Only

Derek Hough’s Blog on DWTS Weeks 6 and 7, DWTS Season 16

Derek did a shorter than normal blog this week because he’s exhausted and doesn’t know where he is, apparently. 🙂  Here’s an excerpt from TV Guide:

I am exhausted! I have no idea what time it is or where I am. I’ve been following Kellie on tour this week and I’m just wiped. We’ve been traveling for 10 hours as of now and I think we’re in Illinois or Ohio. I really have no clue! We don’t get back to L.A. until Sunday, so we have one more day of this. I traveled with her the second week, but this is way worse because she’s got three shows in a row.

We lucked out with the samba this week since we just did it in the team dance. It’s s a physical dance and she’s handling it really well. I don’t want to try anything too crazy either this week since it’s so hectic for us. Like with our quickstep, I’m focusing on the quality. I loved how that turned out. It was a pretty simple dance and Kellie nailed it. There were no tricks or gimmicks. It was just a dance, you know? I think that’s so hard to do right now on the show. We’re always trying to do the next big, new thing to keep it fresh and interesting, which I understand, but you also can’t beat just a really good dance. It reminded me of early Dancing with the Stars when literally each week was just the dance itself — no themes or anything. I just wanted the quality to come through and I think it did. Neither of us was expecting the 10 from Len, but it felt awesome to get it!

I have absolutely no idea what’s going in the dance-off next week. All I know is the top couple will be automatically safe, and the other six will have to be in the dance-off. There are three dance styles: the cha-cha, jive and rumba. We won’t know until the results night which dance we’d have to do. I honestly haven’t thought about that at all. I’m just concerned with the samba right now and making that as good as possible. The good thing is we’ve done all three of those styles, so hopefully that’ll give us an edge if we’re in the dance-off.

Here’s Derek goofing off with Kellie on Stage in Minnesota:

Will The Rumba Be Sean Lowe’s Breakout Dance On Dancing With The Stars?

SeanPeta

Sean and Peta have a plan to “shake” their disappointing week and make a come back? Peta says they have to make sure this upcoming dance is their “breakout dance”. Can they do it? Below is more from OK! Magazine. Note how Sean had travelling distractions this week like the last, but, this time he took Peta along so he wouldn’t miss a day of practice.

“We have to make sure that this dance is our breakout dance and he’s got to come out with full force,” says Peta. “He’s got to look like a changed dancer, a changed man and I’ve got to really soften him up. He always gets called a lumberjack. I really don’t want to hear that word ever again. I don’t want to hear it one more time. We have a lot of work this week.”

Last week Sean’s personal appearance schedule interfered with rehearsals, forcing him to miss a full day of practice. This week another event takes him to North Carolina, but he’s bringing Peta along to make sure he has plenty of time to tackle his footwork.

“It was definitely distracting,” he says. “I’m not going to make excuses. Missing Thursday killed me but then we worked 13 hours on Friday and we worked all day Saturday so I felt like I made up for that time. I actually felt good going into Monday until our performance and I kind of screwed it up from there. It was distracting but I don’t think that’s the reason I did poorly.”

Peta describes what their Rumba will be like in this take….

“It’s going to be soft, it’s going to be lyrical, he’s going to have beautiful lines and we just have to make sure he’s a softer guy this week,” says Peta.

You can read the full article at OK! Magazine. I agree how he needs to really have a break out dance and one that is perfect if he wants to continue on.

New Dancing With The Stars Season 16 Las Vegas Odds For Week 7

“I want to lift the audience to the miraculous in human nature. After all, we shouldn’t be here, with all the odds against us in nature. It’s kind of unusual and wonderful!” ~Ballet Choreographer Paul Taylor on beating the odds

It’s that time again!!! Sports Bovada has posted their new Odds for Dancing With The Stars going to week 7. Note how they’ve lowered Sean Lowe’s odds dramatically from the week(s) before and rightfully so. I think if Sean doesn’t show some vast improvement this coming Monday night, he could find himself eliminated? They have also listed Andy Dick at the bottom. I think they underestimate Andy’s entertainment factor. As in previous weeks, I look forward to Andy just doing “his Jagger Moves thing” and proving the odds makers wrong again (Have I said? I love fighters like that! 🙂 ). I also think they should have put Kellie at the top this week.

Zendaya Coleman 1/1
Kellie Pickler 11/10
Jacoby Jones 7/1
Aly Raisman 12/1
Ingo Rademacher 75/1
Sean Lowe 75/1
Andy Dick 100/1

Here are last week’s Las Vegas Odds to compare.

Zendaya Coleman 11/10
Kellie Pickler 2/1
Jacoby Jones 13/4
Aly Raisman 15/2
Sean Lowe 33/1
Ingo Rademacher 75/1
Andy Dick 150/1
Victor Ortiz 200/1

Let’s see what Miss Heidi and Court think and be sure to let us know what you think too in comments….

Courtney: If I were the oddsmakers, I’d stop banking on the power of the ABC “family” to pull Zendaya & Sean (and to a lesser degree, Ingo) through week after week.  Sean in particular really kind of crashed & burned this week – he may have gotten a better score than Andy, but I really don’t think he did much better…and while Sean ended up in the bottom 2 with weekly cannon fodder Victor, Andy did not.  Now while I don’t have any delusions about Andy winning this whole thing, I do think he’s doing better than any of us anticipated – and support for him just seems to be growing.  Notice that he hasn’t landed in the bottom 2 since week 3…and last week, he wasn’t even in jeopardy.  Unless Sean either knocks his dance out of the park this week or gets blatantly overscored, I fully expect to see him in the bottom 2 on Tuesday.  Jury’s still out on Ingo, too – as hard as he’s working, I get the feeling he may be blending into the woodwork, and I’m not really seeing a ton of improvement from him…and on top of that, Kym seems like her patience may be wearing thin.  He could also be bottom 2 material in the coming week.  As for the top of the pack – if the team dance was any indicator, Zendaya is not immune to mediocrity, and I would really consider that paso doble to be an epic fail on Val’s part; there was no reason that they shouldn’t have won that challenge, EASILY.  But I daresay complacency could be Zen & Val’s downfall – too many consecutive weeks of praise can lead a couple to feel a bit too…comfortable.  Hopefully this week was a wake-up call.

Heidi: My perspective is a bit different after reading the ABC press release for this weeks show. If the judges work it the way I think they will work it, it will mean Zendaya once again at the top of the pack, whether she deserves it or not, and Andy going home.  It is one HUGE manipulative ploy – and if they keep that sort of thing up for the rest of the season, the people the judges want to go home,  WILL go home.  Right now, Andy seems to be that guy. And that pisses me off.  IF the odds makers are looking at that, then they might be right on the money.  Or they could be totally clueless and end up being right accidentally. 🙂 I DO agree that the odds, combined with the twitter voting crap could really cause an issue with Val and Zendaya – if they think they have this in the bag, they could be in trouble. I mean, really – why do TPTB feel like they need to do this immunity thing? Who isn’t getting the votes? Would they do it for Kellie?? Doubtful.  Add in the complacency that some of her fans might be feeling and you are straying into shocking elimination territory.  Seriously, I’ve heard lots of people say they didn’t even vote in the finale last season, they were so sure that Shawn was going to win. How many now consider Zendaya a “sure thing” – including Val and Zendaya themselves?? I don’t know – I’m seriously asking. Anyway, they have Zen and Kellie close to tied with Jacoby at 7/1?? I think they’re under rating him a bit, but we’ll see.
