DWTS Karina Smirnoff And Maks Chmerkovskiy Come Full Circle (Forever Tango Premiere Media)
What a special treat for dancing fans and fans of Karina Smirnoff and Maks Chmerkovskiy!! The two Dancing With The Stars pros were interviewed on Good Morning America today for their three week run in Forever Tango. Karina looked stunning as always in a black and white lace dress and spiked heels. The women of the cast were wearing the same. Karina says the show is full a lot of passion. Maks talks of how special it is and how he and Karina “have come full circle” (*total awww moment). When they dance, there is something effortless about their movement. The slender, beautiful Ukrainian-born Smirnoff seems to melt inside the torso of the hunky, muscular Chmerkovskiy, also born in the Ukraine. They think their intimate past can actually aid the tango, which should be sexy if done right.
“I think it helps. With every dance, you go to your experience, to your emotion, whatever you can relate to. I think with Maks, we both can go to a place where —” Smirnoff says.
“No one’s been before,” Chmerkovskiy interjects with a laugh.
“Exactly. We had our ups and we had the lowest of the lows and we can take that into the dance and make it than much better,” his partner finishes.
“Aside from what transpired, I do have respect for her as a dancer. We went to a bad spot at one point or another but it’s been documented: I’ve never lost respect,” he adds. “I’ve always been looking forward to one day get this out of the way.”

Karina seemed so awkward when they mentioned the engagement and whether they’re back on again. Love these two together and I’m glad they’ve come “full circle”.
Do you guys think their “PR” people want to play up the “whether they’re on again” question for them to get a little publicity or do you think it’s genuine?
Either way, they’re amazing together on/off the dance floor. SO much passion, chemistry and spark.
Karina and Maks looked great this morning. Their performances are going to be such treat for the audiences. I also noticed how respectful both were to the other dancers in the cast and let them have their spotlight, unlike some other pro appearances I have read about.

I personally think the former which is what I think Karina meant by Maks being a very smart businessman when she asked him to join her. I don’t think as badly as Maks was hurt, he wants to go back and try again and Karina clearly didn’t want to marry him then BUT the fact that he has decided to put the pain in the past, finally, and is dancing with Karina and spending so much time with her for this show, it’s good for both of them. I think it finally frees up Maks emotionally to find the one who is meant for him, whoever that may be, and whenever that may be. So nice to see growth.
I can’t wait to see a video of the show!

I agree! but at the same time I feel like both of them have matured over the years. I remember in 2009, Karina was very intense (and a strong Russian woman) with her partners but she has definitely lightened up over the years (since her parterships with Ralph, JR, Gavin, and Jacoby) and same as Maks, I think he has matured over the years as well.
Maybe they are or aren’t “meant to be” but you can’t deny the passion and connection between them. I think this is the most I’ve seen Maks seem genuinely happy, both of them actually. But I’ve always felt they are an explosive couple on and off the dance floor (I think I always say this but it’s true haha)

Totally agree. I love them dancing together, always have.
Adding on to the Extra footage….talk about weird! Mario (cheater) Lopez doing the voice-over for the segment, ha! Life is a strange and funny thing, isn’t it?
Whether Maks is dating 21 year old Kate Upton, I don’t really care. She seems like a beautiful, sweet girl. But I’ve seen interviews and she isn’t necessarily the sharpest too in the shed, nor does she have to be. I’m just not really buying it but to each their own. As long as everyone is happy, it’s all good.

Totally thought that too about Mario!! but I love the way he says “Karina” ..so cute!
Tony has a very sleazy looking smile plastered to his face for most of the interview that really makes he hope he gets rotated out next season. It definitely appears to me that they are playing up the “are they or aren’t they back together again” angle. Maks seems to be playing many media games since his DWTS contract appears in limbo, but I never thought of Karina as a game player. I think that with her book coming out she wants to get the media’s attention, I just didn’t think she would go to this level to get it.

I know everyone has moved on… (Allegedly) But deep down inside I wonder if Karina was wishing she could slap the crap out of those two bozos.
I definitely think they’re playing it up for the publicity. It wouldn’t get half as much attention if not for their past and the possibility of whether they’re back together.
Publicity aside, I don’t think anyone will deny that they always dance beautifully together. IF I remember correctly, they were selected as one of the couples people would most like to see dance together again in a survey on this site. Regardless of what they are or aren’t doing, I’ve got my ticket and I’m looking forward to seeing them tango!

Of course they’re playing it up for the publicity,and I don’t mind that. Whatever sells! They know it, and good for them for not shying away from it.

I have thought that the pros who know they have mutual fans know exactly how to play it up to the audience and the cyber masses and using that to their advantage. Karina and Maks are not stupid when it comes to that aspect of performing. However, I hope they have a great run on Broadway and have a lot of fun dancing together – in the end, that really is all that matters.
I saw the GMA segment and it reminds me why I will miss the DWTS performance shows this fall. Wouldn’t it be nice to have Maks and Karina perform a tango from the show on DWTS?

I’m positive the results show will return sooner rather than later. Most of the shows they have lined up will fail terribly and are going to need replacement.It’s only a matter of time.
