Elizabeth Berkley Talks Of Her Strengths And Weaknesses For Dancing With The Stars (New Interview)
Elizabeth Berkley was interviewed by Access Hollywood this morning. She is excited and feels giddy every day for how excited she is to dance on this season of Dancing With The Stars. Billy and Kit ask her on her dance experience, being partnered with Val Chmerkovskiy, her son Sky, and lots more. And wow, check out how this girl can tap dance straight up. 😯
She is probably the biggest ringer this show have ever had.
I still think Corbin is a bigger ringer. He was straight up featured in a “Macy’s Stars of Dance” segment.
Wow, Billy and Kitt are really giving it to her and calling her out for her dance experience. Funny, how she just skipped over her dancing in show girls-LOL
I do think she will be great… Just keep it real girlfriend-LOL
Obvious ringer….look how good she was tap dancing. She’s a lock for the finals. I will say she is more of a ringer than Corbin.
Interesting how she down plays her dance experience, lol. Even though she said she’s never done ballroom, I expect her to kill it each week. Unless she’s not getting the votes, I fully expect to see in the finals as well.
Agree, Ali she will definitely be in the final unless she won’t be getting many votes. I bet the producers are going to save her for last Monday night…pimpage will be in full effect.
I don’t see her as having much of a fan base, so she has to come across as likeable to make it to the finals. I think it will hurt her if people think she has an unfair advantage with previous dance experience, so she’s smart to down-play it.
I disagree Nae. I think the pimp spot will be reserved for the lovely Miss Valerie Harper.
@marintx – I do agree with you about Elizabeths fanbase, I’m just not sure that she has much of a following.
@Nae – We tend to only see pimpage when said pimpage is somehow beneficial to ABC – in Elizabeth’s case, I don’t really see any incentive for them to pimp her. She’s not a Disney or ABC Family star, she’s not really been in the public eye in quite awhile, and as far as we know, she isn’t slated to star in any new ABC shows. In Zendaya’s case, she was part of the ABC family, and she had a new (ABC-backed) album coming out – it was beneficial for them to keep her on the show and in the spotlight. Ditto for William Levy – he was about to launch a show on ABC’s Spanish affiliate, so they probably wanted to give him as much PR as humanly possible in order to boost viewership of the new show. Now if anyone this season gets “pimped”, my guess is that it might be Corbin…he’s done Disney, although I don’t really know if he’s a current Disney star. But Elizabeth? Nah. And I do agree with Sandy that Elizabeth may struggle with votes – some may remember her from Saved by the Bell , but some also remember her (unfavorably) from Showgirls…I don’t blame her for trying to distance herself from that film, which is widely considered one of the worst films ever made. There have also been some remarks from some of our readers that Elizabeth can come off as a bit cold and intense – not exactly warm & likeable like Valerie, Amber, Corbin, etc. I think she may struggle to connect with viewers.
I agree with everyone who thinks Elizabeth’s fanbase is questionable at this point and also with the viewers who were less than pleased by Val’s poor sportsmanship last season when he didn’t win. I think they are really going to need to work at being likeable, since I can’t see Elizabeth being as inspiring as Valerie or as charming as Corbin at this point in time. In Zen’s case it seemed that being the “ringer” that season really backfired on her. This season one may say that there are multiple ringers: Elizabeth, Corbin, even Bill Nye. I think it’s going to be very interesting to see not only how well the dancing is this season, but how the partnerships come across on camera. Val needed to be very appropriate with Zen. but with Elizabeth I suspect we may see more “shades of Maks” come out, since Elizabeth is married I hope we don’t see another cheesy showmance like he had with Kelly. The Peta and Brant thing will be enough to swallow for one season.
Court’s right, the show’s much more likely to pimp Corbin, but I really hope they decide he’s not enough “ABC Family” to be worth the effort.
As for Elizabeth, I’m interested in seeing her dance because I think she will be good. For her sake, I hope Val has learned that being a likable couple is just as important as being amazing dancers. I’m not holding my breath on that one.
I think Elizabeth is adorable and she hasn’t performed in a long time. Now at 41 she is good but Dancing is a sport for the young with all the tricks expected on the show nowadays. Corbin was one of Debby Allen’s protégés so he is young and a professional dancer and 16 years younger than Elizabeth Even. Nicole was 10 years younger than EB when she was on the show. With all the ringers on the show they’ll go with a younger dancer.
Really, now that I think about it, I don’t really even see the benefit of ABC pimping Corbin – he is a FORMER Disney/ABC Family star, not a current one, so it’s not like shoving him down viewers’ throats is going to boost ratings on either of those networks; nor is he involved in any sort of show on ABC itself. The only reason they might have a vested interest in Corbin sticking around is because they THINK it will bring in young viewers – and I’m not so sure it will even do that, as High School Musical is several years old and those who were fans when it came out may now be apathetic teenagers who care more about twerking and One Direction than a celebrity crush from 6 years ago. 😛
I’m starting to think there really isn’t incentive for ABC to pimp ANY of this season’s contestants…have they finally let go of some of that control & manipulation and decided to let the chips fall where they may???
Wouldn’t it just be so refreshing if someone with some or a lot of dance experience/training recently or remotely, would just say, “yes, I’m very lucky, and I’m also very nervous because it puts a lot of pressure on me to excel because expectations are so high, and I plan to work as hard as everyone who doesn’t have training because I know that I also, or especially, have to show an arc of improvement.”period instead of how they, especially the women with training always try to explain it away.
^THIS
IMO, Billy and Kit were harping on Elizabeth’s dance training since they couldn’t use their standard “are you hitting on your partner” line of questioning since she’s married with child. That’ll be saved for Brant and Peta.
IMO, I don’t see TPTB resisting manipulating the couples since it is in their DNA now. I am willing to be surprised.
@Deena – I can’t stand Billy Bush, his persistence on Elizabeth’s dance experience was rude and desperate for a storyline.
I have an idea, let’s have Billy put on his dancing shoes and be on the other side of some of that same type of questioning.
@jess, wow! I was going to write something similar to your comment, but I couldn’t have stated it better. 🙂
I also wonder about EB’s ability to get enough viewers behind her even if her dancing is great. Besides not being around much for years, she has several types of baggage-people who hate that she has experience, who were appalled by Show-girls, Val and his gift for screwing up and she just “comes across” oddly, somehow.
A side note that surprised me—I heard Maria Menounos say on Extra when there was a discussion about favs and who they were pulling for, she said Elizabeths my girl. She’s always been behind Derek and his partners before. Does anyone know if EB and MM have a connection besides her being Marios castmate from Saved By the Bell?
I agree about the inability to resist manipulating by TPTB. I think they will look at audience reaction and all the ways they track viewers and pimp whoever seems to generate the biggest audience for the show. It seems to be crunch time for this show and several others to renew flagging interest. I don’t know if crunching everything into one show is it or not. I always loved seeing more and more BTS and used to love the results shows when the musical acts weren’t predominantly hiphop or controversial Psuedo-talents. With the popularity of so many of the pros and their exceptional skills, I had hoped the results shows would have more of them dancing and doing things.
