Private Members Area – DWTS Season 17 Week 5 Discussion
The next episode of Dancing with the Stars Season 17 is in the books. What did you think of tonight’s show?
I want to leave a bit of space before I talk about any spoilers. Although, my inbox already has some people crying foul and saying they’re never going to watch the show again. Happens every season and usually a couple times a season. So, nothing new. However, for me personally I’m not too surprised. When you’re better known as the social media correspondent on The Voice than as a singer, that’s a problem. I’m not talking host of the Voice. I said social media correspondent. In fact, I thought it was a joke when they said she was a star. I didn’t realize she was a singer. Maybe I’m just not in touch with that style of music. Anyway, all of this to say that I wasn’t surprised.
Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments.
To be honest, I knew who Christina was prior to the show but I couldn’t remember any of her music until I searched her on youtube and remembered her one hit “Dip it low”
Anyways, in regards to the elimination I wasn’t all the surprised and it wasn’t a “HUGE SHOCK” that everyone is saying it is. I did agree with Heidi, Courtney, and Vogue about her being in the lower ranking in terms of fan votes and tonight when they said a female has the lowest amount of votes, I knew it would be between her and Leah because they both sort of rub me the wrong way but I figured Leah would have a stronger fan voting system than Christina.
Oh, and Tony and Leah’s little “eye rolling” or looking at each other and smiling while Christina was getting interviewed about her “video music background” after the dancing experience segment and then their little disagreement with the judges, it really rubbed me the wrong way.
I’m not rooting for Christina but honestly I was surprised she was eliminated. She has 1 million twitter followers, same as Amber, Corbin, and even more than the other contestants. How could she not have enough votes? Not to mention she danced well and had the highest score tonight. She might not the best tonight but she wasn’t the worst either in my opinion.
One answer that comes across my mind is no one is safe. Your amount of twitter followers doesn’t guarantee you to be safe. It doesn’t mean that they all vote.
I can’t believe we and Leah have to endure each other for another week.
I have a feeling they may throw another hint early next week with a possible reverse ending.
Now that Christina and Mark’s hair (WTH)! have left the building, hopefully now TPTB will see that (multiple in jeopardy) Elizabeth ain’t all that and a bag of chips.
My picks for cleaning house are: Leah, Elizabeth, Brant, in any order just so they are banished from my dancing kingdom forever.
My favorites are Bill, Nicole, Amber, and Jack (if he wasn’t paired with that hag Cheryl, maybe I could get more on board with this pairing). The rest are simply show fodder.
@Selindira – It all comes down to “How many of your fans are actually willing to tune in and vote?” You can have 5 million Twitter followers, but if the bulk of them aren’t interested enough to actually vote? Forget it. The same thing kind of happened with Kim Kardashian – hoards of followers, but they didn’t really match up with the demographic that actually watches DWTS. Ditto for the girls from The Hills, or even Sabrina Bryan – Sabrina in particular is a good example, because she was only a half-point off from a perfect score last season when she got sent home. I’m sure Sabrina had plenty of fans – but they just were not the type that actually tuned in to vote.
On top of that, I think Christina just didn’t come across as likeable as she could have this season – a lot of posters here commented that she didn’t seem very friendly and seemed annoyed when getting her critiques. It was a likeability issue – she may not have been a bad dancer, but she just didn’t have the voting base and didn’t put her best face foward in order to gain more votes.
Selindira – 13 million people watch the show. A million twitter followers is a small fraction of that, not to mention that it’s been shown time and again that twitter followers mean nothing. Kellie had a lower score and much lower number of twitter followers and still ended up beating Zendaya. That should be a lesson right there.
Too bad the voters got rid of the better dancer. Wouldn’t have minded one bit if DWTS had a 2 for 1 sale on snotty bitches and sent Leah packing at the same time.
So glad “Most Memorable Year” is over because I couldn’t drum up any enthusiasm for the show this past week and watched Monday night with an air of weary cynicism. Hope to rekindle my interest this week.
I remember wishing Derek had Christina when the pairings were first announced. Well, I’m so glad that never happened now.
Here’s to Leah going home next. *fingers crossed*
I was thinking the same thing, Cidra! I wished we could have sent both Christina and Leah home in one fell swoop! I was hoping for most of the week that it would be Christina that got sent home, but as it came down to the final two, I was actually hoping it would be Leah. I think I could have dealt with Christina for another week to get rid of the horrible attitude that is Tony/Leah!
