PureDWTS Season 17, Week 5 – Power Rankings
I’m currently resisting the urge to go poke obnoxious Christina fans on Instagram with a stick, because so many of them were swearing up and down that she was “the most popular person on this season”, and that anyone trying to say she came across snotty was “just jealous”, and that we all should “just wait – she’s gonna win the whole thing!” *snicker* Hate to say I told you so, kids, but – I told you so. She was not connecting with viewers, and I think it was a direct result of what many of us perceived as a “I’m too good to be here” kind of attitude – and as a result, she was not getting very many votes AT ALL, to the point where she got painfully overscored and STILL couldn’t manage to stick around. I highly recommend rereading Heidi’s numbers post from last week, as it paints a rather prophetic picture of what might have happened to send Christina home.
It’s nights like last night that make me wonder if TPTB do skim Pure from time to time to keep their finger on the pulse of the viewers – because the whole “previous dance experience” bit and the nonsense about lift policing seem like they were plucked directly out of discussions here. What’s next, guys? Humorous screen grabs? 😛
1/2.) TIE: Corbin & Karina and Amber & Derek – Last night was a bit of an odd night for the two frontrunners – both still had strong routines, but seemed to get picked apart by the judges a bit more. Corbin & Karina’s foxtrot was a bit odd for me – the music didn’t seem very foxtrot-ish, and I have to wonder if another style (maybe Viennese waltz) would have suited it better; consequently, I feel like both Corbin & Karina were struggling to make their dance actually fit the music, and while they didn’t overtly lose time, it felt like they may have been on the brink of it at a few times – heck, I even had a hard time keeping a steady foxtrot beat in this one. Not my favorite dance they’ve done, but I think the whole “lift police” bit was just inane – but I LOVE that Tom actually kinda tried to hold her accountable for it by offering up a “playback” and the option to change her score…of course it didn’t end up working, but I kind of enjoy the fact that Carrie Ann actually had to own her capricious, petty lift-policing this time. Perhaps she’ll be a bit more cautious about it in the future? 😉 As for Amber & Derek – I enjoyed the routine, except for the bit at the end with the mic, which I think would have played a lot better if it was actually Amber singing instead of just lip-syncing. Len’s complaint about not enough “in-hold” moves? Really, Len, foxtrot on DWTS has really become more Broadway than foxtrot, and each season we see less and less work in-hold; I don’t think there was any less in-hold work in Amber & Derek’s foxtrot than there was in Nicole & Derek’s foxtrot in season 10, which got RAVE reviews. But Len usually has to pull out a “7” paddle for Derek at least once a season, and it’s usually when Carrie Ann & Bruno are pulling out 9’s and 10’s…so I guess we got that out of the way early, eh? 😛
3.) Nicole & Sasha – This actually ended up being one of my favorite routines of the night – just pure fun and pure “Snooki” 🙂 I just love the way these two work together – and while they may not be the best or most impressive couple on the floor, everything they do entertains me, and has a good energy to it. Love that they have a bit of a “signature move” now – Nicole sticking her leg out and Sasha jumping over it. I just think it’s a cute analogy to their partnership: Nicole’s always doing stuff to mess with Sasha, and he just laughs it off and keeps going. I don’t think they could have picked a better partner for Sasha – she meshes well with him, she’s tiny, and she can do some of the gymnastic-y stuff we know he loves 🙂 I’m hoping they’re getting the votes to stick around – because I think they’ve got the right attitude about this season. They’re just working hard and having fun – they aren’t tunnel-visioning towards the MBT or trying too hard.
4.) Bill & Emma – Not the best routine we’ve seen from Bill, but a very sweet, honest routine nonetheless 🙂 He seemed to have a few timing issues with the Viennese waltz, which I kind of expected, but he seemed to handle it well enough; I think he may have messed up a few steps, but god bless Emma, she was able to move with it and minimize the effect. Overall, I think the routine was a sweet tribute to his wifey, and it brought back memories of Andy’s Viennese waltz for his daughter last season – both routines that weren’t technically perfect, but were just lovely for their message 🙂 I do think Bill is gaining some momentum in terms of votes, and has the potential to overtake some of the better (but less popular) dancers if he can continue to improve and entertain us (and not be a douchebag :-P). Do I think he make the finale? Probably not. But I still think he’s got at least a week or two left in him…which I’m totally fine with 🙂
5.) Jack & Cheryl – I think Jack may be the most underappreciated dancer this season right now – if you really watch him as he dances, you’ll see that he actually GETS the concepts of rise & fall, and actually has a great frame. Cheryl also seems to have instilled in him the ability to really “be there” for his partner, as he seems like he’s never in danger of dropping her or mowing her over. And man, this routine was just gorgeous to watch – both in terms of technique and feeling. He certainly didn’t take the easy route with his song, either – the tempo changed quite a bit, so I find it really impressive that he managed to stay on-time. My only complaint? I feel like he’s getting shoved in crummy running order positions, and just seems to be getting lost in the shuffle – last night he was stuck between a ridiculously overscored routine (Christina) and a really, really bad one (Leah). He’s neither at the top of the pack, nor the bottom; he’s just a pretty good dancer that is slowly improving. I don’t think he’s in danger of getting sent home – yet – but I just feel like I’m not hearing as much “buzz” about him as I am some of the other couples. Hope he’s not getting forgotten!
6.) Brant & Peta – It was the better contemporary routine of the night – but unfortunately, that was a pretty easy feat, considering how truly BAD Leah’s contemporary was 🙁 Generally, though, I thought Brant’s contemporary was pretty good – he handled what he was given well, and he did inject a good deal of emotion and conviction into his moves. Thought it was a little lift-heavy, and a bit too flaily; but anymore, I’m just kind of “whatever” about contemporary routines on this show, since most of these pros don’t have the contemporary experience necessary to choreograph something great – they’re just flying by the seat of their pants, probably watching YouTube videos for inspiration, and trying to throw something together that their partner can handle while still somewhat-resembling a contemporary routine you might see on SYTYCD. He seems to be back in favor with the judges, so barring any huge snafus next week, I think he ought to be ok. He seems like a good kid – I’d definitely rather see him stick around than Leah or even Elizabeth. Let’s just hope Peta resists the urge to “sex up” any more of his routines…
7.) Elizabeth & Val – After all the hype we saw for this jive throughout the show, I was thinking “This better be the best damn jive this show has ever seen!” Aaaaand…it wasn’t. Sorry, but the whole SBTB, caffeine pill-throwback skit at the beginning just felt awkward and desperate, and like a waste of time – and I think Liz & Val may have mixed up their 90’s teen sitcoms, because I don’t recall Zack Morris ever climbing through Jessie’s bedroom window (that was a move credited to Sam from Clarissa Explains it All – duh ;-)). It only go worse from there – Liz’s little solo bit at the beginning felt like she got a little too excited and desperate, as she fell out of her pirouttes…and with her dance background, that’s one move I would expect her to EASILY nail. The actual jive portion started out promising – she stayed on time, her flicks and kicks looked good, and I actually have to commend her on handling the simple spins (which are anything BUT simple) well; but after that, I think she lost some steam, as she seemed to struggle with picking her legs up quite as high and started looking a little winded. Consequently, it looked like she may have lost time at a few points. Overall, I admire her effort – but if she wants a hope and a prayer of making it to the finals, she is going to have to step up her game…because I think both Corbin & Amber danced circles around her last night. The whole “in jeopardy” thing happening AGAIN also doesn’t seem to bode well for her…
8.) Leah & Tony – Ummm, wow. I think we have our first nominee for “worst dance of season 17” – because this was a real turd, folks. I do not care that Tony “has never choreographed contemporary before” (not entirely true); I do not care that Leah is “not a dancer” (heard you the first 10 times, dear); I do not care about how well you did or didn’t “tell a story” (you took too long doing it, anyway) – this routine was just crap. The cheesy bit with the marionette at the beginning was just that – cheesy – and it took too long to get going; the lifts didn’t feel so much like a part of the dance, as they did just moves that were arbitrarily thrown in “because contemporary!” – oh, and Leah looked heavy going up into them, and it seemed like she was stopping every other beat and just waiting to be lifted. The ‘tude they were throwing the judges’ way when being called out on all of these things was just the icing on the cow pie for me – everything about this routine and Leah & Tony themselves just left kind of a bad taste in my mouth last night. And I daresay Leah got a bit of a wake-up call standing up there with Christina last night – I hope she realizes that the sense of entitlement we’ve seen from her is not going to guarantee her safety (if anything, it might guarantee her elimination – she should go ask Christina), and I hope Tony realizes that he has got to kick his choreo up a notch…because they have an uphill battle to stick around next week, and I’m not sure it’s one that they’re going to easily win.
So how do you guys feel about last night’s elimination? And who do you think is on the chopping block this coming week?
Love these and wow Court! We are on the same page almost exactly this time.xx
1. Corbin and Karina. – From the beginning of this dance, I was totally mesmerized. I loved their arm circles and all of their turns. Karina looked so pretty! They were so graceful. Everything was so heartfelt. I felt like he was genuine, more relaxed, and in the moment last night compared to past weeks.
2. Amber and Derek – Once again, these two take my breath away and in a different and new way with every dance. They also always leave me wanting more. They were powerful and entertaining. I also thought Amber improved her footwork even more. She also radiated out there. Her dress was beautiful. The whole dance had “star” written all over it which is a statement to never give up on your dreams and thank goodness she didn’t.
3. Snooki and Sasha – Moving up the ladder once again! I loved this dance so much. Every week, Snooki surprises and comes out full steam ahead as if she’s been doing this all of her life. What a little fighter she is. I loved their jumps. Such great choreographing by Sasha too. Her energy and fun are infectious! I also love the way she teases Sasha. So cute!
4. Bill and Emma – Moving up the ladder as well. This dance was so heartfelt and beautiful. I found myself captivated in the story, the romance, and the moment. You could feel his love for his wife in every move. I love too how he is just a regular guy…..and so full of fun, heart, and passion. All of these things come out in his dancing.
5. Cheryl and Jack – First of all, can I just say that Cheryl just looked stunning last night? It’s the best she’s ever looked thus far in all of her time on DWTS in my opinion. As for their dance, it was full of elegance, emotion, and grace. I loved Jack’s arm extensions and passion. Simply beautiful. They were like angels out there taking me to another place.
6. Peta and Brant – And what a surprise these two were. I couldn’t picture Brant doing a contemporary dance, but, he proved me wrong. I loved all of their movements together. He was full of strength and never broke character. I agree with Carrie Anne how the dance was “driven through a true place of passion”. Beautiful!
7. Val and Elizabeth – I loved her confidence tonight and she seemed more relaxed and had a lot of fun. However, a lot of her timing was off and her footwork and turns were messy. She had a hard time keeping up. I agree with Carrie Anne how her kicks were too soft as well. They are still one of my favorite couples, but, next week’s dance better be really perfect in every way or she might find herself at the bottom and possibly going home?
8. Leah and Tony – I really hope this couple is eliminated next week. You can tell she just wants put out of her misery. Once again, her attitude was just awful. I was so turned off of her eye rolls like others have commented. As for the dance, I thought it had too many lifts (and bad lifts at that) and she stood around too much. They are always playing it safe and finding ways to cover up her bad dancing. Seriously, it’s time for them to go. It was time for them to go the first week.
Spot on with the comments.
I am tired of the attitude of Leah & Tony and it was a toss up for me as to who went home-Christina or Leah.
I really enjoyed Corbin & Amber’s dances the best.
Yes just a bit too much hype surrounding Elizabeth’s jive and yeah the jive pills in the beginning was chessy but fun. True that particular episode Zach came through the door but on occasion he did climb through the window.
Still think a slow motion play back should have been show just to prove Carrie Ann wrong…just to make her apologize.
I’m not upset about last night’s elimination except that it wasn’t Leah & Tony! I have been over her whining and b*tch faces for a while already and Tony also became insufferable to me last night. I could have lived with Christina & Mark for another week if it meant the end of Leah or Elizabeth & Val. Especially since with his personality and Christina’s collusion, they will blame this on Julianne Hough.
I think Leah is gone next week. I think up until now people have enjoyed her humor and effort in trying to improve but last night she really was just annoying and sounded bitter.
I think some of the votes she was getting will go to Elizabeth instead this week because of the fun/throwback entertainment of their Jive. Though it wasn’t her best technically it was probably the one she seemed to have the most fun in and people are drawn to that. After next week though I’m not sure how she’ll stack up.
I may actually start voting for Snooki…
Does Leah not get the irony of her message to not be a victim/to take control and her constant constant constant whining that she’s NOT a dancer??????? Yeah, and you’ll never be if you keep saying that! Stop it! Take yourself and your partner away please, Mr.
“supportive” until he’s interviewed at some later date and he comments that all his partners need therapy or some other victim bs. Classy.
Otherwise, I really enjoyed the performances. The other half or so of the contestants without dance experience are doing great, really embracing the experience, getting better every week, working hard, and putting on entertaining performances. And the ones with dance experience are working hard, getting better every week, embracing the experience, and putting on entertaining performances. I really like this season.
Karma is a Bizzatch Christina. She is so arrogant and came back to bite her. Especially that “WHAT” when she got eliminated and that walk she did when walking over to Tom and Brooke just looked like a snot. anyway….
1. Corbin and Karina- Absolutely,FANTASTICALLY,Beautiful. It was absolutely amazing!! I loved that choreography and it was incredibly touching.
2. Nicole and Sasha- This was just soooo much fun and entertaining. I was up in my living room jumping around. She is a definite threat.
3. Brant and Peta- First, I knew Peta was gonna deliver with this because she is the only pro with actually ballet training. This was absolutely touching. Brant really emoted and it came from a deep place it was absolutely beautiful.
4. Elizabeth and Val – Yeah she messed up the pirouette in the beginning, I thought she was gonna fall off the stairs. I loved Val’s choreography. I thought it was energetic,Content heavy and entertaining.
5. Bill and Emma- I love me some Emma Slater she is delivering routine after routine. Bill is just a joy to watch. Every time he hits that stage he gives it his all and is having a blast.
6. Amber and Derek- They would’ve been higher up my list if it was an actual foxtrot. I kind of agreed with Len, there wasn’t enough content. The dancing was great as always though.
7. Jack and Cheryl- It was so beautiful it was like they were floating.
8. Leah and Tony- This was a mess, they should be leaving next week.
BTW Derek’s choreography in the opening number was GENIUS. Peta,Sharna,Val,Derek,Lindsay,Witney and Henry were amazing. Can we just get rid of Jaymz. There is no use for him when we have Gleb. He shouldn’t be there. That girl troupe bumper (Sharna,Witney,Lindsay and Tyne) was SOOOOOO FIERCE!!!
Overall great show! 🙂
I think other than it feeling forced and not needed but the thing that really got on my wrong side about Liz and Val’s number with me (and I may be the only one thinking it was disrespectful to Amber’s feelings)..and it might be the snarky coming out in me…did the producers really have to do that skit right after Amber danced?
I always feel sorry on memorable year night for the people who have not had a deeply emotional story to focus on… no reason why they should but ‘I didn’t get into Idol’ or ‘this is the year my career took off’ don’t resonate in the same way as illness or death. That’s not the stars’ fault – most days they would consider it a good thing, but it must be kind of weird to feel let down by your relative good fortune!
As to the dancing –
Corbin and Amber – both were good dances, but neither were really traditional foxtrots. Wonder if the foxtrot might disappear from the show now they have new styles. Could they have ‘broadway’ instead – or we have the ‘American Smooth’ in the UK, which is foxtrot based (usually) but with 3 lifts. Both are good dancers, but it was not my favourite dance for either of them. Thought that Corbin came across the best so far in his package though.
Snookie, Bill and Jack – all three did really good dances and connected emotionally in their package and on the floor. I think Snookie was probably technically the best, but personally preferred Bill’s dance. Think that Snookie and Jack have both grown up a lot and have found the experience of kids a grounding one which has visibly changed them. I agree that Jack seems, somewhat inexplicably, to be getting lost in the shuffle. I like him, I like Cheryl with him, I think it’s her best choreography for a good few seasons, yet I regularly forget him when I list the couples.
Brant and Elizabeth – had different weeks than I had anticipated. Brant was good in his dance and this was for me his best dance. Peta seemed to have choreographed thoughtfully and (perhaps due to his storyline) but just not sexed it up. I like him and hope he can stay over some of the others. Elizabeth had (for me) her best package and her worst dance! I actually liked her last night. Thought Val was sweet with her little boy and liked the reference to SBTB. However, she did not look like a lady with past experience in this dance. I did enjoy the fun of it, but expected it to be sharper, given her background and the plugging. Felt sorry for her actually – she finally gets the pimp spot and doesn’t perform her best.
Leah – liked her song and that she wanted to really express her story, but then the dance was clunky (who is Tony trying to kid – the youtube videos are there Tony so we can be reminded of your last attempt at contemporary) and their attitude in the feedback was sulky and unappealing. Before now, I had not connected with Leah, but was happy for her to stay around, but now she strikes me as the one who needs to go. Tony’s (obviously flawed) ‘dance experience hypothesis’ was clearly rubbished by Christina’s departure as she hardly made the semi finals. Will look forward to seeing Heidi’ numbers post to see exactly how many more votes she needed to get to stay over Christina. Worry that we might be stuck with her for a couple of weeks while Brandt and maybe Bill 🙂 go first.
Wonder if Elizabeth might benefit from Christina’s voters? Have to say that they did her no favours by overscoring her (though did like her dance). All it did was draw attention to how few votes she was getting – it’s like – you are really, really not popular Christina! It would still have been shocking if she’d got a 26 and gone, but not quite so humiliating!
This week is always the most difficult to watch because of how emotional some of the contestants will get in their packages, but it ends up being the best theme night.
1. Corbin & Karina: He is still the clear front runner this season. I loved that he dedicated his dance to his sister, and the dance itself was really sweet and heartfelt. Best dance of the night. Such a shame that Carrie Ann didn’t give them a 10, even though she wanted to, but wasn’t sure if there was a lift in the beginning.
2. Amber & Derek: I loved the story and the concept, but Len was right; there needed to be more hold throughout. It was still a fun dance, and a great way to pay homage to Glee.
3. Brant & Peta: It takes a real man to cry, and Brant proved that. He moved beautifully, and was phenomenal. I think he and Peta could be that surprise couple that makes the final, but that could change in later weeks.
4. Nicole & Sasha: Definitely most improved this week. I loved how the package was based solely on her becoming a mother, and she proved a point. Becoming a parent changes your life completely. The dance itself was a hit.
5. Jack & Cheryl: He really is becoming the dark horse this season. I loved how he overcame his MS diagnosis, and finished behind Corbin. His best dance to date.
6. Elizabeth & Val: I never watched Saved By the Bell, so I didn’t understand the beginning. I thought this was probably one of the most predictable stories and most predictable song of the night, but it was enjoyable.
7. Bill & Emma: This was the sweetest dance of the night. I did tear up a little bit from the dance, and I think Bill is here to stay for another week.
8. Leah & Tony: Worst of the night. She tried, but it wasn’t acceptable at this stage of the competition. I’m pretty sure the Church of Scientology did not appreciate the “big middle finger” Leah gave them.
As for the elimination, I’m a bit shocked that Christina & Mark were sent home, but it happens. My best bet is that Leah will be sent home next week.
Im really getting tired of Leah and I think her or Elizabeth could be going home next. At least I hope!
Snooki has now become one of my new favorites on the show and hope she sticks around.
As i agree amber’s dance was not enough foxtrot the song didnt match for it that much IMO and they did great anyway and that 7 like you said is better to have earlier than later and he always does that to Derek.
Christina had to go home that attitude was very annoying. Especially the “il shocked we had the best dance of the night” uh no comment
Bill looks like he can be safe for now, so will jack
Brant did well
I guess we’ll have to see what happens next but they definitely have to step it up!
Oh and the tony thing him starting that whole i never did this talk again please you did it with melissa in all stars.
I loved that peta said a person who did have dance experience has an advantage yep i agree! Okay im done :p
I was stunned, but not upset, that it was Christina that went home. I won’t miss the attitude problems that she and Mark had.
Thoughts on the other dancers last night:
1. Corbin/Karina- He is amazing. I enjoy watching this couple dance. I am not voting for him, though, because I prefer to support dancers who have to struggle a bit more to do well. Yay for the underdogs!
2. Amber/Derek- She surprises me every week. She moves so well for a woman of her size. She is a favorite of mine. Last night’s dance did not deserve a 10, though, but it also didn’t deserve a 7.
3. Snooki/Sasha- I had expected her to be lousy like so many other reality show stars have been, so she has been a delightful surprise. She is becoming another favorite of mine.
4. Bill/Emma – What a sweet man. I love him. He is a pretty good dancer, too. I want to see him stick around for a while.
5. Jack/Cheryl – He is doing well, but he just doesn’t “wow” me. I really kind of forget about him. I pray that his MS remains manageable because I feel sorry for him being burdened with this disease at such a young age.
6. Brant/Peta – This dance was a big improvement over last week’s. I thought it was beautiful and emotional. He is another dancer that I am rooting for.
7. Elizabeth/Val- I am surprised that Len didn’t call them on the prolonged lead-up to the dance. The dance was good, not great. Is it wrong for me to say that I like her better on the dance floor than when she is off? Her personality is annoying, but wow, she has the cutest baby! I thought Val was sweet with the baby during rehearsal.
8. Leah/Tony- I am ready for her to leave. Lousy dance and lousy attitude. It seemed to me that she and Tony both expected to go home, so they didn’t care what they said or what attitude they showed. I would be surprised if people even wanted to vote for them any more.
Trying to vote last night was frustrating. Sometimes my votes were registered as going to Bill Nye!!! What the heck?!
Was that Leah R. who played Zach’s love interest on saved by the bell when they all worked at a resort for the summer?
@Rose Yeppers!!
I agree with everything in your excellent assessment of the evening. I really enjoy Nicole. She is a joy to watch dancing. Also Corbin and Amber were great to watch. Bill and Emma were good.Bill is a wonderful man; I loved the tribute to his wife. I also loved Emma’s dress. She looked so beautiful. Leah needs to go next, followed by Elizabeth. Thanks for all your hard work on this site. It is so enjoyable to read!!!!!
BIll and Emma are just so great as partners that it really comes through to the dance and makes it so much fun to watch. AS much as i love elizabeth and val i just don’t think they mesh well together and i think if she would have been partnered with Derek hough or, someone else she would have been the one to beat at this point. One of my favorites of the night was probably Karina and Corbin they danced so beautifully, even though i kinda hated that bruno compared Corbin to fred astaire (i love him, but no). snooki and sasha were cute together again and ballroom really suits jack. As far as eliminations go i wasn’t happy or sad, but i think maybe next week it might be leah going home or elizabeth.
It was an interesting night for me. I’m not at all unhappy that Christina went home. Beautiful girl, great dancer but how she came across on screen was not likable. She seems to think she is entitled. I think she should have kept her job on The Voice.
When Elizabeth and Val came out with that little performance before the dance, I thought oh, Len is going to rip them. Then Len said nothing about it. There is no consistency with these judges. If you don’t like that sort of thing with Derek, then you can’t like that sort of thing with Val.
I enjoyed Snooki very much. She is a little fireball.
Bill is a joy to watch. I enjoy someone who is so thrilled to be there.
Jack’s story was so heartfelt. I think he does a good job every week when he dances but then by the time I get to the end of the dances, I’m not really remembering his dance.
Leah and Tony need to go home. They don’t want to be there. You can see it in every eye roll and smirk. Leah comes across as entitled also except apparently for different reasons than Christina. Tony seems to have taken on Maks old role of everyone is against me. Tony knows better than to act like this. He also knows better that his celebrity shouldn’t be acting like this. Tony also knows the “I’m not a dancer” thing really carries no weight. Plenty of other non-dancers have enjoyed the experience, danced well if not perfectly and many of them got farther than anyone thought they would. This is a show based on your dancing and your popularity. Right now, these two are striking out in both.
Peta said it does make a difference if a celeb has experience…does that include previous doing dwts and coming in second place? I think so….so why didn’t Gilles win all-stars Peta?
It’s the same thing season after season – Zendaya and Wynonna drive motorized vehicles during/before their dance, Len doesn’t say a word. Derek drives a tractor BEFORE the dance and Len rips him for that and a cow. Liz and Val have a whole entire set with an skit before they dance, Len gives them a 9…again, Derek was ripped for a COW. There are many, many more examples.
I liked last night, but at the end did not want t watch any of the dances the second time. Although almost everybody did pretty well, there was no true standouts for me.
1. Corbin and Karina – I liked the dance, but most of all I liked his package, he was sweet and genuine. I did notice some issues with the dance, but could not put my finger on it until Courtney explained it. I did not feel that it deserved a 10, but 9 were on point.
2. Amber and Derek – great dance and overall a great couple, 7 from Len was a joke, I am just hoping it is over with for this season.
3. Nicole and Sasha – I am LOVING this couple – Sasha’s choreography was not just great, it suited Nicole – they are becoming a contender and I am happy for them.
4. Bill and Emma – loved Bills’ package and the dance was very sweet, Emma is so good with Bill on and off the floor, would love to see them go far.
5. Jack and Cheryl – I like everything about Jack and their partnership, but they do need a “bright” moment, or they will be forgotten.
6. Brant and Peta – I liked it, but found it to be a bit boring.
7. Elizabeth and Val – that was too much of everything and not enough good dancing, I really am not going to miss Elizabeth even though she is a great dancer.
8. Leah and Tony – what a painful experience it was, the dance was just terrible. I did not regard Tony as a great choreographer before it, but this was just REALLY BAD. Even if it was his first contemporary routine, a professional dancer and choreographer, a world champion should have come up with something a little better. I did like the fact that Leah enjoyed herself, but she must have been the only one.
A side note – do you think Cheryl had plastic surgery, on her nose particularly? Or is this makeup magic?
I agree on all angles with Christina! She was not connecting at all with many viewers. I’m a fan of hers and have been for awhile. Love her as a singer and actress but even she wasn’t connecting with me this season. She just comes across as unlikeable! Perfect partner for Mark? HA! Her laugh and her comments when she’s getting her scores just seem so fake and disingenuous and goes right with that “I’m so much better than this” or “I’m the best here. You can’t compete with me” attitude. It’s sad to see her go cause she did bring some good performances but I’m not entirely shocked. She was very forgettable this season! And honestly, yes, she’s been over scored. Especially tonight! Like you said, painfully overscored. A 10 from Len?! Can’t wrap my head around that one! I would have rather liked to see that 10 from Len given to Amber, another one. Yes, not enough foxtrot content and not enough in-hold but Amber was still more deserving! At least that’s my opinion. And her “WHAT?!” when she got elimiated? Way to stay humble. It’s okay to be shocked especially when your better than some of the other competitiors and got the first 10. But for all to see? On live tv? Yep. Goodbye Christina. Waste of a first 10. Wish it went to some else. Next week I’d like to see Leah or Elizabeth go home! I think E & Val aren’t really connecting as partners and don’t have that chemistry needed! She’s a fantastic dancer but there’s just something about her that won’t bring myself to root for her. Leah? Ugh. Like Christina, she seems so unlikeable! Maybe more so! Is it just me or does she seem like she doesn’t care about being here? Her attitude is just so…. I don’t even know what to call it but I do find myself rolling my eyes alot when she comes on! I think its time for her to go! Her act is growing old with me. Sorry!
I watched Corbin and Karina through fast forward, cause I honestly wasn’t interested in watching their performance last night. And through fast forward, I DVR’ed it, it looked like a VW! I was convinced that’s what it was, but I’m wrong and it was a Foxtrot oops! Lol.
Snooki was very entertaining! Love her this season. She’s really been impressing me. I’m almost shocked at how good she is and at the things she can do! Hope she makes it far! Cause I’m really not ready to say goodbye.
I couldn’t even watch Leah’s performance cause it was that bad. I watched the beginning of it and had to ff through it. I don’t even wanna know what the judges said! But I think I might go back and rewatch it just for my own evil enjoyment haha. The puppeteer action actually looked good in the package! But it didnt translate well to the live performance. Like I said, hope its her who goes home next week.
Loved Amber and Derek’s performance! A 7 was way too low! And kind of harsh. But we know how it goes! Derek has to get at least one 7 in the middle of the season from Len. It wouldn’t be a normal season if he didn’t right? Lol. Choreography was fantastic! Anyone see the mess up that Carrie Ann pointed out? Cause I didn’t!
Derek’s pro opening number = AMAZING! Maybe one of the best pro numbers I’ve seen. It was so Derek! And I so loved it! Wish we could see more Derek, Emmy Award Winning Choreographer, pro dances more!
Tom calling out CarrieAnne on the lift thing was totally amusing. Instant replay in the Ballroom! lol
Besides the 7, I agree with Samantha that the commentary from Len was ridiculous. The implication that Amber didn’t work as hard on her technique as the rest of them was utter bullshit. If you don’t like the choreo, say so, but the implication in his comments about work were over the top. Especially when you know FULL WELL that Derek choreographs to the music like no one else and that occasionally means less content (and more Emmy nominations) than you would like. But to imply that she didn’t work on technique?? Mean and unnecessary.
Thank GOD, that Derek is not the coward that some of the other pros are and doesn’t allow Len’s commentary to deter him from his instincts – if he did, can you imagine some of the dances that we never would have seen?? Pretty sure the two that won him an Emmy a few weeks ago would never have seen the light of day. Of course, this might all be Derek and Len’s game. Len feels the need to be harder on Derek cuz he wuvs him (that’s what I’ve heard), Derek feels the need to rub Len’s nose in the fact that he will do it anyway, if it feels right.
A few little tidbits:
I’m a huge fan of Christina’s music and I was so excited when I saw she’d be on the show this season – but even I’ll admit she was quite a disappointment. Does anyone else get flashbacks of Natalie Coughlin’s elimination? e.g. Some potential in dance but not fully there, not the most exciting couple, and so forth, an under-the-radar meaning a shock elimination. I didn’t think she deserved a 10 for her Cha-Cha-Cha, but I’m happy she got one to lead her out.
I would have loved the Elizabeth opening skit if she hadn’t have really made such a deal of the ‘I’m so excited stuff’. But I’ve seen her tweet the hashtag of #imsoexcited at least five times, I’m sure, so to be honest it was a little tiring.
Amber… okay, 7 was too low, but the shimmy part in the middle was completely confusing to me. Derek knew that Len wouldn’t like it, and it’s not really enough to make the audience go ‘wow’, so I think they really could have done without them – but I love them!
Snooki and Bill have been serious breakthroughs this season, and their VTs showed them in exceptional lights, well deserving. But I think Bill needs to go soon – sure, he’s the heart of the show and what-not, but he’s not the strongest there.
Although, Leah must go next week. Don’t get me wrong, I love her, but this week, I thought that dance was pretty shocking (Marie Osmond Freestyle flashbacks with the ‘puppet’ parts) and I think she should have been more respectful to the judges. I know y’all didn’t like Christina’s ‘resty bitch face’ or whatever you wanna call it, but at least she didn’t react so negatively.
Overall, an interesting night. The only thing that annoys me is that somehow, my Twitter timeline filled with ‘Christina going is just another example of racism’. Um, really? Because I think the top two could, at this point, be well-deservingly Amber and Corbin, and I think Snooki’s got a great shot, too.
Since DWTS posted the wrong voting numbers last night, maybe there won’t be any elimination next week. Wishful thinking.
Seriously…well said Heidi. If Derek didn’t deviate we would never see the great routines that bring emmy nods home. Louis Van Amstel was getting on my nerves last night- typically he always has digs at Derek but last night he literally tweeted like 5 or 6 tweets all about Amber and Derek…um, there were other people dancing right? I get it- Len wants more hold…and if this was a ballroom competition yes it would be necessary..but it is a reality dancing show and people want to see some technique and performance. Make me remember your dance. Louis has always choreographed like he is trying to win a ballroom competition..hence why he has never won, or seldom makes memorable pieces. Sorry just had to vent. A 7 was just silly…an 8, ok fine. But then again he gives Derek a 7 every season.
Sandy, I thought that kinda too. In an early season of Idol, they messed up all the numbers and no one went home.
Excellent power rankings.
I can’t believe how sour, entitled and delusional both Leah and Tony were last night. And their Contemporary stank on ice. Oh how I wished it was a double elimination.
Speaking of Contemporary can they please retire this dance from the show? Or at least force feed the pros videos of Twyla Tharp or Mark Morris to see what Contemporary really is.
All that angst ridden, running to and fro flinging about drives me nuts.
The elegant dignity of Jack and Bill’s Waltzes and the adoring sweetness of Corbin’s Foxtrot moved me more than any of the Contemporaries.
Speaking of Corbin, his little sister is stunningly beautiful, even at such a young age!
I really love Nicole’s spunk. That dance was pure non-stop fun.
And we have our shocking elimination! She was not happy. I admit, I was shocked, I fully expected it to be Leah. Having those three standing there makes me wonder if any of them were getting the votes. I can only imagine what Mark was like backstage after this.
Jack/Cheryl – His daughter is adorable and he cares for her so much. Having her and his wife is going to help him deal with this disease on a day to day basis. I can’t imagine what it’s like living like that, but he is showing such poise in handling it. He’s embracing this chance and having fun with it. That said, I thought his dance was beautiful. He should be very happy with that performance.
Leah/Tony – We get it, you walked away from scientology, but please stop bringing it up all of the time. It’s either that or I don’t have any dance experience. Neither one makes me interested in you. I didn’t like the dance. It was horrible. I predicted neither contemporary would be good and this one, at least, proved me right.
Corbin/Karina – I had never heard that song before, but the it was perfect for what he wants for his sister. It was a beautiful dance and very touching.
Bill/Emma – What a sweet guy! I wish I had the love of someone that he has for his wife. She is one lucky lady! And what a perfect song. That was such a touching dance and wonderful to watch. There should be more like him in this world.
Nicole/Sasha – I really like them a lot. This dance was a lot of fun and had such energy. She keeps improving every week and deserves to be there.
Brant/Peta – When I saw he was dancing contemporary, I said he would either be shirtless or have the unbuttoned shirt on. And bingo, unbuttoned shirt! I didn’t care for the dance. The part where she threw herself at him from behind and wrapped her legs around him looked awkward. I know people will disagree with me, but that’s my opinion.
Amber/Derek – Derek looked so handsome and Amber looked great. I enjoyed this dance. Derek knows how to bring the best out of anyone and make it seem flawless.
Elizabeth/Val – Which one of you ladies said if Mario Lopez was in the audience, she was having trouble getting votes? And poof, there he is! I can only hope that your prediction is true and she’s not getting them. I’m trying, I really am, but I just don’t get what everyone sees in her. Did Val really have to rip open his jacket? And those droopy pants? Did they really need that big intro to the dance? Too much “frippery” in my opinion. So thankful she didn’t get any 10’s. I wish she would just be voted off and we can be done with it.
Next week, I’m hoping the bottom three are Leah, Elizabeth and Brant, with Leah or Elizabeth leaving.
I just remembered that not only was Liz on Saved by the Bell, but so was Leah Remini. Way back at the beginning. She was Zac’s summer love interest. Just thought it would be fun to mention.
I think I liked a lot of the dances last night except for one or two. I can’t say I’m surprised at all that Christina went home. Even with the major overscore she got, I still had this gut feeling it wouldn’t be enough to save her. Leah & Elizabeth being in jeopardy is definitely to be expected. And I think one of those ladies, barring any miracles for them and a catastrophe for another couple, is a goner next week.
Corbin/Karina- I really liked this foxtrot. I do agree that because of the song, it looked to be teetering on the fine edge of getting rushed and a little out of control. At times, he hit things a little hard, which again, had a bit to do with the song. Nevertheless, the story was very sweet and I think he and Karina connected well. He had good posture and footwork, pretty much had all checks down well. Not quite as great as his Paso was, but I did enjoy it!
Amber/Derek- Adored this dance. Derek knows how to make his partners shine and make a dance special to them and them only. I’ll take that over more content but a generic dance. The foxtrot in hold that was in here was quite lovely. Amber is continually getting better with her footwork, her posture was really nice, and I loved the concept. She was sassy and bubbly, but also graceful and sophisticated. Of course Len is full of crap. It’s one thing if he were consistent with this type of stuff. But he never is. His standards are a certain way for Derek and different for everyone else. Oh well, the signature “7 of Len” usually only happens one time for Derek’s partners, so hopefully that’s out of the way. Do I think this foxtrot was a 10? Not quite, but it balanced out that pathetic 7, so I think 26 was just about right.
Nicole/Sasha- This was definitely a favorite of mine from Nicole and Sasha! I think the word “badass” perfectly describes this dance 🙂 I think her story is absolutely great as well. This had some really cool choreography (well done again Sasha, who I am liking more and more as the weeks go on), great execution from Nicole, and the feel and atmosphere was edgy and strong. I loved this. Worthy of the score it got for me.
Bill/Emma- Now was Bill’s technique that great in this? No. But he connected and touched everyone probably the best out of everyone last night. It was truly honest, sincere, and moving. He did have some bobbles with footwork and got off time, but he held his frame well and he really went for some more difficult choreography than I expected. Well done to him and Emma!
Jack/Cheryl- Jack also did a really good job IMO. He really got the rise and fall of the dance just right. His frame was great, his footwork (while it needs a little bit more work) is really getting there, and his arms (while they need a bit more fluidity too) are looking nicer and nicer each week. I really hope he’s not getting too lost in the shuffle, because we’re seeing such great things from him and he’s really improved. A very pleasant couple, I hope they stick around at least for a couple of more weeks.
Brant/Peta- I really liked this contemporary routine. Peta’s choreography (while a bit strange in spots) was one of her better routines she’s done in quite a while. Brant really put great emotion into it and executed the lines, strength portion, and control really well. I was touched by this and connected to him more than ever before. I think he really opened up last night, and his story was very touching, I hope he sticks around for a good while as well.
Elizabeth/Val- There were parts of this I liked, but other parts had me going “WTH?” The skit at the beginning, while cute and a nice reference, just seriously took too long. And I guarantee that if Derek tried to pull a skit at the beginning, Len would call it “messing about” and give them nothing higher than a 8. Yet he says nothing here and they get a 9. Double standards, thy name is Len. Aaaanyways, this dance did have good energy and it was overall clean and on time. However, there were some slip ups and her kicks and flicks got progressively weaker and lower as the dance went on. I’m afraid time could be running short for them. I don’t dislike Liz at all, and I am actually liking Val just fine this season, but I’m just left totally bored and not satisfied at all. I don’t even think they connect that well at all as a couple.
Leah & Tony- The couple I want gone the most. Leah just needs to hush about the whole “I’m not a dancer” thing. That’s no excuse to do a “turd” of a routine as Courtney calls it (LOL). Kirstie Alley was 20 years older than you and probably not even in better shape, and she was certainly no “dancer” yet she pulled off lifts in her freestyle quite well. You’re supposed to turn into a dancer as the show goes on. Heck, I would say even Bill has taken to being a “dancer” quite well. This routine, while I did like the message, was just…cheesy mixed with poorly executed IMO. It felt like it was lift, awkward barely dancing, lift, more awkward barely dancing, lift, OH she did a clunky spin!!, another lift. And the lifts weren’t done all that well either, they were rough getting into and rough getting out of. I was rooting for her in the first couple of weeks, now she’s only irritating me. And I can’t say I’m a huge fan of Tony either. Bitterness doesn’t look good on you, Tony.
As for Christina/Mark, even though they were eliminated- Was her cha cha bad? No. Did I somewhat enjoy it? Yes. Was it 10 or even 9 worthy? Hells to the nah. Her hip action was pretty good and it did have decent energy, but I lost connection to her through chunks of it, I don’t remember her doing anything particularly beautifully with her arms, and my gosh those knees were bent throughout the WHOLE thing. But of course, Len decides to give it a 10. Yeah…don’t think I missed you at all, Len, to be frank.
As for next week, I think Leah or Elizabeth is going home. Hoping Brant, Jack, and Bill can survive at least until the two ladies go home. From there…I have more thinking to do lol. At this point, I’d love a Corbin, Amber, Nicole final. Heck, I would even be okay with Brant or Jack slipping through and making it (not at Amber’s expense of course :P). If Bill keeps improving, I think I’d be okay with him making it too 🙂
Agree with Hedi and Samantha. I think that’s the part that annoyed me about Len more than the 7. As if Amber isn’t working as hard as the guys w/ her hold. In the Tango we clearly saw that Amber’s lines are great and she did that w/o a full week of practice. So no… that wasn’t the case. He could’ve just said he didn’t like the choreography and kept it at that. He tried to take it back by complimenting her on how great she is and how she’s a star but it was whatever at that point. I found it insulting tbh. I guess it’s typical Len considering where Derek is concerned. *shrugs*
@Joey – Yeah. I’ve noticed Louis underhand compliments weekly about Derek/Amber. He tends to nitpick them more than the other dances.
I agree with others Leah can go. The attitude part is what I’m not liking. My mom said it best with w/ the type of attitude that both Christina and Leah had wasn’t/isn’t going to get them far nor connect with the audience.
Elizabeth and Val are still missing the connection together. They are up and down for me. One week they are good the next week it’s back to be disconnected.
Corbin is Corbin. I really can’t say much about them anymore. We know he’s just that good.
Bill and Jack are still on the most “adorable” train.
Snooki I still see as the darkhouse. She seems to be improving a lot.
Brant was impressive last night. If Peta tones down the “trying too hard to be sexy” theme. They can make it to top 5.
Overall this week wasn’t the best but I enjoyed the packages.
Is it just me who’s sick of Tony? First, he keeps on mentioning how he is paired with a non-dancer. Pathetic – especially as he has WON before with a ringer. Also, Tony, if you didn’t turn out the same dull, uninspiring choreography for all of your stars then maybe the producers would think you are deserving of someone with a bit of dance experience. As it is, you have no right to moan about not getting the ringers.
Furthermore, his comment about not having choreographed a Contemporary dance angered me. If you don’t like the direction the show is going in, Tony, then QUIT. It annoys me that there are dancers such as Henry and Gleb stuck in the dance troupe while Tony gets a celeb partner EVERY season. He’s just as bad as the awful C-brothers to me.
Tony has had three partners that had dance experience:
Stacy Kiebler- dance lessons in ballet, tap and jazz
Jane Seymour- ballet
I forgot Melissa Rycroft, a former NFL cheerleader where dance experience is a must.
The selective memory of some of these pros really cracks me up.
Steve J, ditto to what you said about Tony!
I was SO hoping Leah and Tony would be given the boot last night 🙁 I LOVE Mark’s Choreo but didn’t like his choice of costume. He needs to take a few notes from his pal Derek. Derek dresses himself to be understated and elegant. Mark SO did not need the lime green vest last night. I found it very distracting. That said, I think it was a kick-ass Cha-cha. But, as Heidi and Court said, Christina didn’t connect with the viewers…at all. So it was her who left. Sad because she was one of the better dancers and I thought for SURE a shoo-in to make the finals.
LOVED Snooki’s Jazz routine! I love how motherhood has softened her and in a good way! I watched her schtick when she was the party girl on Jersey Shore and I WEPT for the future of America! I am really liking this new and improved Snooki!
Elizabeth and Val’s Jive fell short. She fell out of her spins and that bit at the beginning was unnecessary. TOTALLY unnecessary. If Derek had done that, Len would’ve called him on it but nary a word to Liz and Val.
Brant and Corbin are good….it’s Corbin’s MBT to lose right now I think.
LVA has a hard-on for Derek…always has I think. Jealous much Louis???
Tony don’t like the newer dances being put in the show? Then LEAVE!! I’d LOVE to see Henry step up to a pro spot!! Tony’s choreo is bland and boring and Leah DID request him for her partner, no?
I’m really liking Cheryl with Jack this season! Good for them!!
I liked Amber and Derek’s routine…there was Foxtrot in there. I say if there are no specific requirements that a dance has to have so many elements then the judges have no room to low-ball them on the scores…I think it deserved a 27..9’s from all…not 10 worthy but definitely not 7 worthy!
Tony is a “C” brother. All involved with them and their dance studios on the east coast. That’s fine, we all need an extra paycheck here and there. But Tony and Leah have only one thing in common–whining–and that doesn’t translate well on the hardwood.
From a Minor little note from Emma on her Twitter….Am I the only one here who did not know that she & Sasha are an item? I’ve noticed how supportive SNOOKI is at the end of Bill/Emma’s dances, so I guess that adds a bit for her.
I don’t think Jack is going unnoticed by those who appreciate the real dance aspect of this show. Until the judges start pointing out his skills in a real way, he may leave too early.
Overall, I’m still waiting for the break-out night from all the dancers. So far, things have seemed a little mundane except for Snooki and Bill. Oddly enough, I never “really notice” Corbin. So I’m wondering who is voting for him?
And Good Lord—the best thing about Christina being voted off, is that I doubt we will see Paris Hilton again. Hope Hope.
@PH “Derek was ripped for a COW” – I love how that if that was taken out of the sparkly world of DWTS it would make no sense, but as I read I just nod along and say ‘yep’
Yes, you might be the only one, DooWop – it’s very old news. 🙂
sue b, that’s the world of DWTS for ya. Most people completely understand “Derek was ripped for a COW.” LOL
Leah seems to be getting a lot of support as evidenced on Tony Ortega’s site exposing Scientology.
I found it noteworthy that Derek wasn’t in that little package about ringers. I would have liked to hear what he had to say.
I loved Brant, his story was so touching that I cried, loved his dance. I am so so so tired of hearing Leah saying she’s not a dancer. You don’t hear Bill & Brant saying that. I was hoping Leah went home I will miss Christina
I’m really starting to like how the Power Rankings are shaping up, because my top six are the top six in the rankings, and generally, I’d be okay if this particular set of rankings was the order the couples left in – though to be perfect, I think I would prefer Jack or Bill to be third instead of Nicole, since I connect with them more. But I’m liking her more as the season goes on, so I’d be fine if this was it.
As far as the dances on Monday (in order of these rankings):
Corbin/Karina & Amber/Derek: I liked both of these dances, but I wasn’t thrilled with the music for either of them, because neither piece *felt* much like foxtrot music to me. The dancing from both was good – I’m not sure either was ten worthy, but I’m okay that they got them, because once Len gave a ten to Christina for *her* dance, then both Corbin and Amber needed one, because their dances were as good (and better) than hers. Plus, I’m glad Len’s ridiculous 7 was balanced out a bit. I knew, though, during the dance, that Len was *not* going to like it. CAI’s “lift” stuff was also ridiculous – but consistent with her MO over the seasons. I’ve been trying to figure out why, as the season progresses, I’m connecting less with Corbin, and I think because he’s usually in an uber-positive persona – and this week he let that go a little, and I was able to connect more with him again. Someone on one of the posts over the last week mentioned the “Disney kid persona” – and I really think that’s what Corbin needs to shift. It would be a little more vulnerable and real.
Nicole/Shasha: It was a fun dance. To me, it felt a lot like hip-hop in places, but she did well, and though I’ve never seen Jersey Shore, it’s obvious that becoming a mom has made a huge difference in her life, which is really cool.
Bill/Emma: I just love these two. The dance was so sweet, and Bill during the package was so genuine – it was great. The dance was pretty good too. I remember I was a little bummed at the cast announcement that Emma was paired with Bill E, because I wanted her to get a shot – and it turned out to be the perfect pairing. I think her choreography has been really good, and fits Bill, and I would *love* to see them make the semi-finals.
Jack/Cheryl: Cheryl’s choreography continues to be so much better this season than the last few. It was a lovely dance, and well danced. I hope he outlasts Leah and Elizabeth.
Brant/Peta: I was actually fairly impressed with Peta’s choreography here – much better than I was expecting (though I really wasn’t expecting much 🙂 ). I thought it was fairly well danced, and I did feel something during moments of it. Other than Kelli’s freestyle, most competitive contemporary routines on DWTS leave me cold, because I don’t feel moved during them. I did think that Peta seemed to dance a bit too hard, and she seemed rather angsty as well – more so than the music or Brant’s stated desire/message for the dance needed. I also thought there were moments from Brant when the dance felt more angry than passionate. But overall, a decent job.
Elizabeth/Val: The beginning was a bit strange (and would have been ripped apart by Len if Derek had done it), and the dancing was only so-so. I’m finding Val much less obnoxious this season than the last couple, but this partnership continues to feel very awkward. I’m not sure how much the judges are going to feel the need to protect Elizabeth after Christina’s ouster, but I hope they don’t – though if they need to protect her to make sure Leah leaves next, I’m okay with that.
Leah/Tony: The dance was not good, and the attitudes were worse. The concept and the beginning of the dance reminded me of Marie’s infamous doll dance from season 5 (*not* a good memory), and nothing in the dance felt fluid or connected. Also, I didn’t feel *any* emotion (except maybe awkwardness) coming from Leah during this dance. Tony’s “never choreographed contemporary” bit means he must be suffering from memory loss, since he claimed during the All-Star season that Melissa’s freestyle was contemporary (whether it was or not is a different debate). And both Leah and Tony’s attitudes during the judges’ feedback were horrible. CAI actually mentions it in her blog at Parade (Vogue posted the link in one of the media posts), and it sounds like the judges may be over any infatuation with Leah they may have had. One can only hope. This is the couple I really, really want to see leave next, and despite the fact that Leah must be pulling a good amount of votes in comparison to Christina in order to stay with that score gap, I hope that was primarily due to Christina’s lack of votes, and that everyone else is staying ahead of Leah.
He would say what he always says, Jennifer. It’s not a new topic to him. And he’s certainly more honest about it than some.
Sorry to say.. either Tony lied about never choreographing contemporary before or he was suffering from memory loss.
I think HE LIED, but he forgot some of his dances are in youtube. He should have been smarter when he planned to lie.
Okay spoiler alert..I am a bleeding heart liberal. Leah is not doing well, it is true and her attitude comes off as bitchy, but I think in reality she could have done with a year of counseling before coming on this show. She has really been hurt by her church and she isn’t coping well. Her comments sounded mean, but the pain in her eyes was overwhelming. If you are not familiar with the Church of Scientology, then you don’t know the brain washing that goes on and how they are taught to act in public. These folks show very little emotion and certainly not hurt or sadness. Then, I wonder how supportive Tony is being and if it is possible he is sabotaging her. You know he is basically a “C” step-brother and they are all close to Kirstie Alley who was Leah’s best friend and now hates her. I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory, but I used to watch her on “the Talk” and she was funny, light-hearted and kept people laughing. This is such a far opposite of how she was, it makes me sad. Is she doing well on this show? Absolutely not, but I started out this blog saying I am a bleeding heart, well most of the time, except perhaps in Val’s case because his arrogance is so over the top. I do want to bow down to Heidi and the other mods who called so many things right. “If Mario Lopez shows up we will know Elizabeth is not pulling in the votes.” And as I said before, Len will always be Len, and that includes giving Derek and his partner a low score based on some made-up reason…we should all be prepared each season…lol. Oh well, the show was generally good and I think Leah’s concept was good, but the execution not so much. Poor Julianne, I wonder if she will take crap for her comments now that Cristina got voted off. I can’t wait to see what Derek does next with Amber. I love Corbin and Karina, they are doing great. Hopefully I won’t anger anyone, this is just my opinion.
amber&derek/corbin&karina- definitely finale material. i think what puts these two ahead of the rest is a perfect combination of both technical ability and sheer determination and willpower. you can tell they want to be on the dance floor, they want to give it their all and each week they push themselves- that’s what makes it so rewarding for viewers. consistency and of course, both have a sizable fan base.
snooki&sasha/jack&cheryl- these two have the heart. not necessarily the best technically but we’re seeing constant improvement each week. i actually agree with CAI (*gasps**) that these two leave their souls on the dancefloor. snooki is really a little ball of energy and she attacks every move with such ferocity. that being said, i’d really like to see a softer more sensitive side to her (hehe a waltz maybe!!)
brant&peta/bill&emma- i’d call them the underdogs. both are ‘non-dancers’ yet they work so hard every single week to prove that they belong in the competition (unlike *certain* people who sit around and whine). brant’s contemporary this week was heartfelt, emotional and lots of actual dancing and beautiful lines though i doubt he has enough voters to keep him around and he is lacking in consistency! bill as well, watching him just brings me so much joy! these two, while they may not be the best technical dancers, i hope they stick around.
liz&val- ok. she’s like another christina except a lot less bitchy. seems like a decent, nice person but it always seems like she’s holding something back. let go, let go and let val lead you and i’m sure you’re gonna connect more with the viewers. while she is an elegant dancer, off the dance-floor it just doesn’t translate.
leah&tony- okay PLEASE be eliminated next week. it’s like a combination of extreme negativity. we GET that you’re a non-dancer, tony yes we GET that you have ‘never choreographed contemporary’ (would you like to look at youtube?!) but that is no excuse for that performance and attitude. has peta choreo-ed contemp before? NO has karina? NO did val (in all-stars?) NO yet all the pros took it upon themselves to push their own limits to produce a wonderful piece of art. you might be a ballroom champ, but DWTS is more than a ballroom show and i for one am glad they are branching out into other styles. we’ve seen countless of traditional ballroom dancers, and if we get pros (derek, mark, karina, sasha, val, peta etc.)(ok everyone except tony maybe) who are willing to explore new styles it’s going to make this show feel fresh and a hell lot more interesting!! maybe being in the B2 this week will shake the pair of them up. and i do hope they can acknowledge that their dance was really just, bad. (in all the interviews the both of them just don’t seem to get that fact?!) and you know what improve. look at brant, he did a terrible salsa last week but this week he stepped up because he knew he had something to prove. please learn, leah & tony!
#41 Bwa ha ha
LOL len and derek should have their own reality show. should be fun to watch!
I agree with #48 that Leah’s way of relating and attitude probably has *a lot* to do with what she’s been through. And honestly, if the only way she really knows how to relate to people is dysfunctional (and she did grow up in Scientology), and she’s been rejected by her community, it shouldn’t be surprising that she’s responding in a dysfunctional way. I suppose it would be more surprising if she were behaving normally. I’m wondering if that is also pulling the worst side out of Tony. However, I still hope they leave next, and I think counseling would be a wonderful thing for Leah to get.
I get the point that Scientology and Leah’s relationship with the group and now not being a part of it is dominating her feelings and thought processes now. So call me cruel and unsympathetic but DWTS is a TV show designed for light, glitzy, often funny and heartwarming entertainment. Leah Remini and her partner Tony aren’t entertaining to me. I wished her gone before Christina or Elizabeth. And I’m ruing the anti-Scientology votes that are probably what’s keeping her on my TV screen yet!
Leah needs to go talk with Jenna Miscaivage, the head of Scientology’s niece who left the religion and wrote a tell all book! It’s VERY good. I read it on my iPad and really learned alot about how Scientology warps people…it’s a Cult in the truest sense of the word!
I want Leah gone…then Elizabeth. I like Brant. He seems like a nice guy. I wish they’d have paired him with Sharna rather than Peta. I used to like Peta…not so much anymore. She was WONDERFUL with DD but that’s because he knew the show and knew what it would take to WIN! Once Maria Menounos got voted off, I threw all of my votes in the Finale to him!! That Freestyle was epic!! LOVE that song and how cool was it that Big and Rich with Cowboy Troy came to sing it LIVE!!!
Derek is the best choreographer that show has…he’s now got an Emmy to prove it. That opening number he did was phenomenal!! Sigh…..I do love Derek. I understand not seeing a certain amount of Foxtrot in a routine but really, this is a reality show…not a traditional ballroom dance competition. They performed the HELL out of that routine…especially MS Amber! Mark needs to take lessons from Derek in how to better costume his Pro and himself…so as not to draw so much attention to himself during the dances…Derek looked very dapper on Monday night.
When referring to Leah’s attitude are we talking about how Scientologists relate to other people or it really Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?
It’s my understanding that Scientologists believe that long ago elevated perfect beings were corrupted by some freaky big bad spacedude who arrived from another planet and enslaved them. All negative thoughts and actions a person goes through are actually remnants from this long ago struggle.
A person needs to have these negatives “audited” by a Scientologist auditor in order to move up both in the higher plane and in Scientology itself. Whoa, after typing that I think I need a drink.
I’m just not seeing where being a former Scientologist makes a person less anti-social and unable to articulate their feelings.
Sometimes people are sour whiners no matter what their religion.
She might be suffering from PTSD. That might explain a little of her negativity.
I just find it hard to accept whiny behavior from her on a season that had Valerie Harper and her radiant spirit on it as well.
@Susan2 I think people are talking about the attitude BOTH her AND Tony have. Either Tony is rubbing off on her in a negative way or she is having some very serious anger issues right now. Looking back though, Tony does have a way with turning a celeb we think of as positive into a Debbie Downer. Wynnona comes to mind at the moment. Wendy Williams. Just to name two.
Cher, what happened to IBLWR?
Some member of the anti-fun brigade slapped her on the wrist for spamming & “overuse of hashtags”. I didn’t even know the latter was a “thing” – sounds like somebody whining because they aren’t part of the fun or aren’t a Bill fan 😉 Everyone go follow! The movement is gaining momentum 😀
@jess
I was a naughty girl according to Twitter so they put me in a time out and I got a spanking. The account was suspended for a bit, if it is not up now it should be within the hour.
Somebody complained I was spamming them and I got a warning about over use of the #IfBillLeavesWeRiot.
That means I have people’s attention. 🙂
Game is ON now!
A non Twitter member here sending A big Thank You to all of the Bill and Emma twitter fans for supporting the cause “IFBLWR” 🙂
Cher, what happened to all your followers? I saw you tweet and you only had one. I know you have more than that before.
@Heidi Sorry went to the store 🙂 They should be back up. I can see them under my other Twitter account. We’re up to 77!
I believe the warning said it might take an hour to get back straight. I had to mark the boxes saying I understand that if I continue this activity my account may be deleted.
Im’ma so scared.
@Sandy come, join. It’ll be fuuuuuuuun. 🙂
I’m still skeptical about the “excessive use of hashtag” complaint – I have NEVER heard of ANYONE getting that. Sounds like a made-up gripe to me.
Well, not saying it means anything but it happened right after I sent out a tweet to Cheryl and then Derek. I typed one out to Brooke and when I hit Tweet I got the “Your account has been suspended” message.
I think it was a hater that is an anti-fun magnet.
I thought that was the purpose of hashtags.
That’s what I though about hash tags to, use them use them use them and see if it trends.
Well, sorry it happened to you, glad to know the “report for spam” button actually works. 🙂 Of course I didn’t do it to you, I did it to the children spamming the hell out of Derek with very hateful tweets. Seems like it takes a hell of a long time to work or it doesn’t work at all. I know I’m not the only one reporting them. Death threats should be illegal, but there is no good way to report them on twitter – if you go to the report form, it’s hard to report on the tweets someone else is getting. Now, instagram – I just reported someone on there and that was pretty easy.
I don’t normally report anyone just for fun stuff, but the hate was unbelievable yesterday – and you’d think they’d be happy cuz now their true romance has a chance (but probably not really).
