PureDWTS Season 17, The Finale – Power Rankings
*sigh* Well kids, all good things must come to an end – and last night, the inspired run that Bill had on DWTS this season came to a close. As soon as the judges handed out that first bullsh*t score, I think I knew there was no way in hell they were gonna let Bill even get within striking distance of the MBT – but thankfully, Bill went out on a very high note: I don’t think Emma could have choreographed a more perfect routine for him than his freestyle 🙂 Just wish that the judges had given him just ONE pity 10, but again, I think they were afraid that giving him any excessively kind scores was going to prolong his stay…but it just became even more glaringly obvious when you take into account that each of the other couples got a perfect 30 on their freestyles. I’m trying not to be bitter about it, but the fact that Len admitted that Bill “did improve” on his Viennese waltz, and then proceeded to give him the SAME SCORE as he got the first time around, just doesn’t compute for me. Grrrrr. But alas, I don’t know that poor Bill had the energy in him for more dancing tonight, so I’m partially relieved that the guy gets his life back now…now I just have to work on getting mine back. Gonna miss Bill & Emma 🙁
Speaking of that blasted “judges’ choice” dance – I don’t know what the hell was going on with the scoring & commentary there. They tell Bill he improved, but give him the same score as the first time he did the dance; they tell Corbin he didn’t improve, but give him a higher score than the first time he did his dance. I thought both improved, but from the way the judges were talking, you would have thought both had completely bungled their dances up even worse than the first go-round. But once again, I think the judges had an agenda there, and the scores and commentary given for those two dances in particular had little to do with the actual quality of the dance. The secret judges’ mission statement of finale week, night one seemed to be “make sure Bill goes home at all costs”. Oh well.
Gonna do my rankings in reverse order tonight – starting with 3rd place and working up to the winners.
3rd place: Corbin & Karina
Corbin’s a fantastic dancer, no doubt, and he definitely delivered in all three of his dances last night – but I’m still left just a bit chilly after watching him dance, and it seems to be a sentiment shared by many of our readers. Something about Corbin’s dancing just doesn’t feel connected to me – it’s as if he’s dancing for himself each time, rather than for an audience, and the end result just seems to create a barrier that prevents me from really connecting to him. As I said before, I thought his quickstep was an improvement, but I still felt a bit of a disconnect in it – like he was more in his own head than interacting with the audience. He handled the samba pretty damn well for not having done it before – and while I do agree that he deserved to win the samba relay, I can’t really say that his samba was my favorite or the most fun to watch; it was just very technical. His freestyle was pretty impressive and very ambitious – taking on MJ is no easy task, but both he & Karina did rise to the occasion. Wish they could have made it their own a bit more, as opposed to just throwing in a small section of tango before breaking into a hodgepodge of MJ moves; I also could have done without the extra people, as they only came in for a small portion and they damn near dropped Karina during the one stunt they assisted with. I think he’ll probably handle his cha-cha/foxtrot fusion decently well, but when it all comes down to it, I just have a feeling that he’s going to end up in third place – between the way the judges run hot & cold with him, to the way some of the viewers haven’t been able to connect with him, to a fanbase that I’m really uncertain about, I just think the best he can hope for is third. Amber’s got the judges on her side, and Jack seems to have the viewers – not a whole lot left for Corbin 🙁
2nd place: Jack & Cheryl
For what Jack lacked in terms of technique and energy last night, he more than made up for in heart 🙂 As I found myself tweeting more than once last night, I think poor Jack is just absolutely drained at this point – as someone who lives with someone with an autoimmune disease, I can tell you that the fatigue is neverending; sure, those suffering have good days and bad days, but most days they do just feel kinda sluggish…and on really bad days, they can barely get out of bed. I think after 13 weeks, Jack is just plain pooped – and as a result, his first two dances got a bit bungled. You could tell he was really trying hard with his jive, but he just didn’t quite have the energy to pick his legs up and he may have gotten a little foggy on the choreography. At the very least, he admitted it wasn’t his best and he was mad at himself – I don’t think I would have been as sympathetic if he had acted like that jive was better than his first attempt. I agree with Len about their samba relay – it felt a tad safe and slow-moving, but I’m wondering if that was an intentional choice by Cheryl in order to somewhat preserve his energy for the freestyle. But man, was that freestyle something to behold – Jack seemed to come alive again, and I actually found that the Fred Astaire theme fit him remarkably well. And the tears both he & Cheryl shed after getting through it flawlessly? Just precious. If I think Bill & Emma were the best-matched couple of the season, I think these two were a very close second – I think Cheryl needed Jack just as much as Jack needed Cheryl, and this season has been an epiphany for both of them. I gave all my votes to Jack this week, and I could have sworn that I saw Bill whisper “Now you win this mofo!” in Jack’s ear as the credits were rolling last night. I actually think he’ll do quite well with his paso/salsa fusion – I think Corbin was pretty kind in giving him that, as he would have ended up with jive again, otherwise. I think Jack may benefit from the fact that he’s the only remaining finalist that has really had a strong “growth” arc on the show, and also the fact that he’s fighting with an incurable disease as he’s been learning. Saw a lot of Bill fans tossing their votes to Jack – I’m hoping it helps him pull out 2nd place. Although seeing him hoist that MBT would be nice 😉
Winner: Amber & Derek
Amber was flawless last night – I don’t think she could have done any better with her Charleston or her freestyle. They must have really drilled synchronization when rehearsing that Charleston, because I didn’t see them out of step at all. While they handled their samba relay routine well, it seemed to get a little repetitive to me – a lot of samba runs and pivots – and I think that may have been what Len was referring to when he said that one couple had “almost” nailed it. Loved the concept and execution of their freestyle – the stepping was definitely something that’s never been done before for the freestyle, and this was one instance where the extra dancers actually served to enhance the routine as opposed to just being in it. And best of all: it highlighted Amber and what she is capable of. I doubt the samba/quickstep fusion will give them any trouble – just hope they don’t try to pull out “Sir Duke” yet again. Given their scores and the undoubtled large Glee fanbase, I would be surprised if they didn’t win – still think there’s an outside chance that Jack maybe gained some support after last night, and there’s enough “Derek doesn’t deserve a 5th MBT” naysayers out there that it could make a difference – but at the end of the day, I think Amber deserves to win.
So what did you guys think of last night’s show? And who do you think will be walking away with the MBT tonight?
Excellent again, Court! Ok, here are my thoughts written after the show last night (with a few additions this morning)….
Wow, what a night and one of the best DWTS finales ever Imo! I pretty much agreed with the judges on everything. They kept it real for the most part. The freestyles were just out of this world.
It was so cool seeing Jack and Cheryl get a 30. So deserving. I loved when they cried afterwards. And did Cheryl not look breathtaking again?!
I also loved Karina and Corbin’s freestyle. MJ would have been so proud. They did MJ’s fans proud (like myself) too. It was epic. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the moves they did for it and the risks Karina took. Amazing. I loved their costumes too.
And then came Derek and Amber (after a perfect repeat of their Charleston. They were the only couple to really improve upon their repeat dance). Their freestyle was just beyond brilliant and show stopping again. Stepping it up is just what they did. I loved how they took on something never done before. The claps, the moves, the choreography, and the whole production was just out of this world and masterful. Even though they had back up dancers, they didn’t over power them. I especially loved when they grabbed and danced with scarves. I also loved that it had a POP and western feeling. It felt totally current. I loved Amber’s hair last night too with it just fixed straight and parted in the middle. Derek has dressed her with perfection all season. Thinking about it further (and I just wrote this at Pure Derek Hough), I knew I’d love this team in the beginning, but one thing I never expected was Derek and Amber to top my fave DWTS couple of all time Derek and Joanna or my second fave Maks and Willa. Yep!! Amber and Derek are now my favorite DWTS couple of ALL TIME!! THANK YOU TPTB for teaming them up….and Derek and Amber for your creativity and theatrics to the max.
Anyway, here are my rankings. I think I will grade them this time:
1. Derek and Amber `- A++++
2. Corbin and Karina – A-
3. Jack and Cheryl – B+
4. Bill and Emma – B- (my fave dance by them last night was their Samba relay. I loved the bit with Derek and how they shimmied off with their hands at the end. So cool!)
They are all winners. I am so proud of them all!
What a great season it has been! Will miss it so much! I think(hope) tonight will play out like this: Jack and Cheryl 3rd,Corbin and Karina 2nd,and amber and Derek take the MBT!
Also when they are about to announce the winners pay attention to who’s standing where I’ve noticed on the spirit the winner is on the left and fall it’s on the right!;)
Great Finals all around!
All the pros did great! I must say Cheryl is really redeemed herself at a lot of meh seasons!
Round 1
Bill- Love Him 8/10
Corbin- Not his best 9/10
Jack- Stuggled a little- 8/10
Amber- Great improvement over last one 10/10
Round 2- Samba Rely (All did great- love the part with Derek and Bill 🙂
Round 3-
Bill- what a great freestyle
Corbin- it was great but thought jazz was better
Jack- i loved this routine and think this could help him win
Amber – Great routine as well
Honestly tonight it is anyone’s game
I’m gonna miss this season 🙁 However, I have a gut feeling Amber will take home the trophy. She trended on twitter for sooooo long last night, and if those people were voting along with all their tweets, she should run away with it. I think Bill’s voters swayed to Jack last night, and wouldn’t be surprised if he won.
So excited for the fusion dances! I think they’ll all get perfect scores, which they will deserve.
i agree with you courtney
corbin did a really good freestyle but jake has more heart and amber nailed it i was so impressed
i still think jack could win it but i really hope amber will
I really don’t care who wins. All of the couples are deserving in their own way, and it will be an awesome night tonight!
I do think it is a blessing in disguise that Bill went home. I mean, imagine him trying to do a jive-quickstep fusion! In my opinion, that would have been a train wreck, with all respect to Bill and Emma.
Oh, and I heard something somewhere (it may have been here) that Emma is the first new pro since Lacey Schwimmer when she danced with Lance Bass.
Nothing else to say about the rankings but “Amen!” I’d like to thank you, Courtney, for all the great insights about all the dances this entire season. I’m learning more & more about dance from this site.
More power to all the mods on this site!
I honestly couldn’t choose between Amber and Jack with my votes. I thought I would give all my votes to Jack, but felt guilty – Amber’s routines thrilled all season and she was a standout last night. So I voted for both and will see who the masses pick. I want them both to win. Can we have a tie this year?
Sidenote, so nice to just enjoy a finally so much without any producers drama or shenanigans getting in the way, and with 4 great, deserving couples there.
Bill & Emma’s freestyle was awesome. Would love to see it as the encore. Hope Jack & Cheryl win the mirror ball!
I love these Power Rankings but if I had to choose the the winner of the MTB based on the freestyle alone it would be Jack. No question.
Corbin and Karina although entertaining seemed to try too hard to imitate MJ and Derek and Amber (although great) just didn’t seem to WOW me. It definitely wasn’t my favorite freestyle from Derek.
When I saw in week one what Derek could bring out of Amber and get her to do and Amber’s willingness to really work…I was screaming a little inside not daring myself to think OMG, he’s gonna work his magic AGAIN. Cause with Derek all you need is a little ability and a lot of Can-do attitude and just do what he says and you are at least guaranteed the finals IMO. Still I am amazed and again, although each time it happens it’s usually for a different set of reasons, if he and Amber get this MBT, it is TRULY deserved. He has been methodic in his progression with her and she has done a beautiful job !! Great dances every week, just like with Kelly. WOW EPIC Really hope they win!
amber will have the encore according to topsy on twitter
100K over corbin and 120k over jack
i hope people voted and didn’t just focus on twitter
Jack made Cheryl are probably the best matched couple this season. Cheryl really went back to the way she was before and that is great. Love creative and happy Cheryl.
Great finale! Loved these 4 couples. So glad there was such love and joy and no drama celebs or pros in the finale:)
Bill & Emma have been just a wonderful addition to the season. I love Emma too and already can’t wait to see what she can do with her next partner. I thought he definitely improved on the VWaltz, and it was one of my favorite dances of his this season; the judges were too harsh in the first round. His samba wasn’t good but the transition was fun. The freestyle theme was perfect for him but I honestly didn’t love it as much as I thought I would. I am glad to see in his post show interviews that he is so happy and is truly fine with being in 4th place. He said his body didn’t even really want to do the fusion dance. I’m so glad that we get to see journeys like his on this show and that someone we thought would be out early when the cast was announced totally proved people wrong.
Corbin & Karina had a great night. I thought their first dance was good, maybe not spectacular but they were too harsh on him as well. He was great in the samba relay. And the freestyle was great fun and sharp with some impressive moves. I actually was more impressed with Karina; I think she had more challenges in this routine than Corbin! The style is more out of her comfort zone. I wasn’t blown away though as I wanted to be though. I think the transitions were a bit lacking or just didn’t gel together as good as they could have. I also think he might come in 3rd….I don’t see as many people wowed or connected with him as the other 2. I also feel like he doesn’t always dance to the audience like the others do which is part of it. It has been great watching all season though, some of his dances were among my favorites of the season.
Jack & Cheryl have just had an amazing season. I felt so sad for him after that jive. Not one likes to have a mishap throw off an entire dance anytime but especially in the finale. The samba isn’t his strong suit either but the freestyle made up for it. Loved the theme and the joy and he danced it well. I just loved their partnership this season and his heart and humor. I do think he could take it for many people loving that too. People love the underdog and a great story. I would not be sad at all to see him win!
Amber & Derek had an amazing night. I didn’t like the repeat dances being picked by the judges and not the dancers but I’m glad that they gave her one that she could have and did improve upon. They did well in the samba relay too, second was well deserved. I absolutely LOVED their freestyle. I loved how different it was to things he has done before. I thought the song and theme were perfect to show off Amber’s strengths. Derek used the extra dancers well too. The whole thing was an excellent production, just loved the choreography and musicality and showmanship. Their transitions were excellent. Amber was just so fierce in it too. It really was the best dance of the night for me.
It was great seeing Kellie again. She and Derek’s partnership will always be one of my favorites! As for who will win, I really have no clue, there are arguments for each one of them. I do think Amber will get the repeat dance. I voted for Amber & Derek but I will be happy for whoever wins!
I have felt that Amber mostly does the same moves over and over again in certain dances….most of them feel the same to me and since they played it safe a lot, I didn’t vote for her. (And Derek is my favorite pro). I was more impressed with Karina than Corbin in their freestyle…because I knew Corbin wanted to pay homage to MJ, but figured KS wouldn’t be able to do pop/hip hop moves. I was a little underwhelmed by Jack’s freestyle. It was good and great for Jack, but overall as a freestyle worthy of a perfect score, I think not. With that said, as I had mentioned in the beginning of the season, I’m seeing (still) many say they are voting for Amber because a black woman has never won and she’s a plus sized girl (inspiration). I see some saying they voted for Jack’s journey (how he dealt with MS etc.) I see some saying they are tired of the best dancer not winning and voted for Corbin. I have to admit, I think this is the most interesting season for me since season 12 lol.
I didn’t care who would win until last night. I enjoy MJs music but that freestyle left me scratching my head. I don’t think Corbin pulled it off.
Hope Bill’s die-hard fans head Jack’s way so he can put up a good fight with Amber.
I really loved this finale. It was the first finally I enjoyed ALL the dancers. Bill made me laugh to tears, Amber shined, Jack moved me and Corbin was the great dancer he is.
Amber and Derek – They are just perfect together. They way the sync w/o missing a beat is so awesome. She’s just a star as Derek is one. I loved everything about their freestyle. It’s like Anna said. It was something that came out of a music video or a movie scene. It was great. Enjoy it really well. Their Charleston was so much improved and that’s because Amber listen to what Carrie Ann said and I think her knees are just healthier. I can’t say it again loved it.
Jack and Cheryl – I know he messed up on the 1st dance but their freestyle was so awesome that it didn’t matter. He really surprised me a lot how he came from being disappoint in the 1st around to picking it up in the Samba relay and just killing the freestyle. Theirs was so cute and well thought out. It fit Jack perfectly. Loved it.
Corbin and Karina – I liked their freestyle. It was a freestyle that only Corbin can do. I expected that greatness from him. They really showed how great they are together. The Samba relay was made for Corbin. His hips were moving like no other. He did a great job in that.
I really won’t mind if any of the three win. I think Amber really shined last night and Jack was a close 2nd and Cobin 3rd. Since she’s the last girl standing I want Amber to win but if Jack wins how can you not be happy for him? He’s so adorable and worked his heart out. Corbin’s freestyle could also make him a winner. I think all three did really great.
Overall. A great show. I enjoyed it all.
@Aviva – I mentioned in my power rankings last week that Emma is the first rookie pro since Lacey in season 7 to have made it to the finals in her first season. It’s only happened a handful of times – not counting season 1 (when everyone was a rookie), the only pros to have made it to the finals in their rookie season are Cheryl, Anna, Tony, Karina, Julianne, Lacey, & Emma; Cheryl & Julianne are the only two pros that have won in their rookie season.
What a great night of dancing! Jack’s freestyle was beautiful, energized and crisp, and showed what incredible progress he has made over the season. When he & the “new and improved” Cheryl cried a little at their three 10’s, I did too. Just a lovely couple. I wouldn’t mind at all if he won.
I know Corbin has obvious dancing talent but his performances always just leave me cold, and I feel the same way about Karina, really don’t know why. Their freestyle seemed disjointed, with the ballroom moves interspersed with the MJ moves, so I really didn’t get it. It was certainly dynamic and well-danced but I didn’t feel anything from it.
I really loved Amber’s freestyle with the scarves and stepping, and agreed with the judges that even with the powerhouse dancers around her, she was a star. And, I appreciated that Mark didn’t over-dance and allowed her to shine. I also loved the color and design of the costumes a lot. I realy hope Amber wins because she is such a great entertainer and has come so far. But if Jack wins, I’m still happy. If Corbin wins, not so much. Fingers crossed for Amber and Derek!!!
@sheery #15 ditto to everything you said and what I saw as well. Same with the online comments of why and how people were voting. I don’t do Twitter so don’t know what was going on there. Have re-watched all the freestyles over again and still like Corbin’s the best. Derek has been my favorite male pro as well, but like you didn’t vote for Amber and him even though Amber and Corbin were my favorites from the start. My daughter felt the same. Still have no idea who will win, but in the scheme of things it doesn’t really matter. I have enjoyed the F4 throughout the season, and now with Bill gone the F3. Best of luck to all of them.
I just wanted to add that I find people on this site to be very respectful to each other even if people have different opinions. It’s very refreshing because some of the comments I read online were down right nasty. I don’t understand why some people find it necessary to say such cruel things about any of these dancers. In the end it is just a dance show and there can only be one winner. IMO it takes nothing away from the two that don’t win.
I also want to thank everyone that is part of this site for all their hard work throughout the year to not only make this a site where you feel it’s okay to voice your opinion, as long as people are respectful to each other, but for all their individual talents that each bring to the table.
Wishing all who are part of this site a wonderful and safe Happy Thanksgiving!
Overall, I think it was a great group of freestyles. I was a bit disappointed in the first round as I think most were. I wish they would just retire the “repeat dance”. I wish they would make them do the same style but a different dance to see if there is improvement (like last season). Samba relay was a bit boring except for the Bill and Derek transition.
I miss Bill and Emma together already. I’m glad they’re being included in the finalists going to GMA tomorrow morning. I wish he would have gotten another 9 or two for his freestyle because it was such a great concept and I was watching his timing and he hit all the accents.
I do have the same rankings as Court.
3rd- Corbin and Karina: They did a great dance, but I feel like by week 11 I should be more connected with them. I think they’re connecting with each other but not the audience.
2nd- Jack & Cheryl: Just love this pairing. That freestyle was so perfect for Jack. I was super impressed with how hard he hit the fast section as well. I know he has a lot to make up, but I wonder if he can with a lot of Bill fans now voting for him.
1st- Amber & Derek: They really just killed it. Coming from somebody who usually only watches Derek, I couldn’t take my eyes off of Amber. I think with her fan base, the hard hitting freestyle, and being in the lead for scores, she’s going to be the one to take it.
As most of us have been saying all week, no matter who wins, I’m going to be very happy. I look forward to a great night of dancing ahead and can’t wait to see them all on GMA tomorrow!
And before things get super crazy tonight, thanks as always to the mods for all your hard work. I’m sure it’s a pain sometimes, but it’s all so much appreciated! Thanks for another great season 🙂
I enjoyed all the dancing this season, and the finale was fantastic. All are winners, no matter who actually gets the MBT.
I have read here and elsewhere that people haven’t connected with Corbin and Karina. And I totally respect that opinion. I think that partly this is due to the fact that people did not *want* to warm up to them. From week 2, I kept reading predictions about how cocky Corbin is, how desperate Karina is, how Disney glossy he is, how Karina is going to have a breakdown. Neither of them proved to be true over the season. But that did not matter, because if one negative perception did not turn out to be true, other ones have been made up along the way.
Unfortunately the behind the scenes between Karina and Corbin showed too little warm feeling moments, loving, friendly scenes. They created this image of two partners being very focused, very professional and wanting to get a job well done. I have doubts that this image truly reflects their relation, as in most interviews they are quite touchy and sweet.
And one thing I noticed throughout the season about their dances… the way the ballroom erupts during and after their many of their dances is amazing. It surely happens with other couples as well, but with them it seems more often and much longer. Just watched their freestyle again, and the reaction is amazing. So, I guess they are quite capable of connecting with the ballroom audience. The TV audience is different, because so much is factored into the perception of the couple.
Anyway, this is just my humble opinion. And I admit that I am subjective in my assessments, as we all are 😉
Congrats again to all the dancing couples, and thanks the moderators for their hard work to keep this site a happy place.
@Courtney Sorry about that! I find that a lot of things that I find someone else has already found – oops! But thanks for all that you and all of the mods do to keep the site running! I really appreciate it.
Thankfully I think that the points difference between Derek & Amber and the other two couples will cancel out the ‘Anyone But Derek’ vote.
If Jack hadn’t messed up his Jive and scored higher I’d be worried but as it stands I think Derek has a great chance of a well deserved Mirrorball No.5!!
So Anna, you start off by saying that you “respect the opinion” that people haven’t connected with Corbin & Karina, and then go on to accuse them of “making up negative perceptions along the way”. First off, you’re lucky I’m in a good mood, because that would normally be grounds for deletion around here – but in light of the “feel-good” mood of the finale, I will let that slide. And to quote The Princess Bride, “You keep using that word, perception – I don’t think you know what it means.” A perception is someone’s personal view of something – so if someone perceives Corbin & Karina to be “cold” or “distant”, it’s very much their own truth – so to accuse people of “making up negative perceptions” is both illogical and dumb. You may have perceived them as positive and warm, which was likely colored by your own opinion of them – but someone else may not have had that same perception…AND THAT’S OK. There’s no need to accuse them of any ill-intent – they’re simply viewing things through their own lens, just as you are yours.
And for the record, I was one of the ones defending Corbin at the beginning of the season – trying to convince people that he was not going to be the intense, glossy, Disney-workaholic everyone was saying he was going to be. But you know what? I still failed to form a good connection with him all season. I think the turning point was the week where he missed out on all that rehearsal time due to filming his movie – it just kinda further distanced him from the audience, I feel, when he opted to blow off rehearsal in favor of tending to his movie. And that’s my “perception”…which is the only truth that matters to me.
My ranking
1. Amber and Derek
2. Corbin and Karinna
3. Jack and Cheryl
@ Courtney – Thanks for the comment. It was not my intention to accuse anyone, but rather to rationalize the occurrence of a fairly common opinion about one of my favorites. My mistake for trying to understand and find an explanation for it with a loud voice. But I do think perceptions can change, and this is often done when people express themselves and exchange impressions.
Sorry to those that felt accused by my rant. I do like this site very much, and it wouldn’t be what it is without everyone that participates.
i wanted to take time to thank everyone at pure
courtney vogue and heidi
you have made my first dwts season a lot easier and fun
so THANK YOU ladies for this amazing site and for being so nice 🙂
YW Maria and everyone! Thank you too!!xxx
Yes, Thank you to Courtney, Heidi, Vogue, Lori, John, Charlie and the rest of the Pure crew that keeps us entertained during the DWTS season. I go thru withdraws during the off season not unlike a crack addict…well, not that bad but you get the point! lol
Is it me or did this season FLY by? Seems like I was just watching Kellie Pickler hoist that MBT above her head and now we’re ready to crown another champion!! CRAZY!! Although I’m sure the mod team here is ready for the break! Thanks again ladies and gents!
Corbin has only been a disappointment because he is still making the same mistakes that he’s made since week 2. His technique isn’t polished. OFten times Karina over choreographs his routines. The times he got most of his tens were during slow routines that focused on technique. I just feel like he should be doing better. It’s disappointing to hear that his frame and footwork haven’t improved after 10 weeks. That’s my take on him.
Thank you Pure for a great season! I really have enjoyed this one. I’m in Oakville Ontario this week and CTV (which is pretending to be ABC here, in my hotel) is showing the Voice at 9 so I will not be able to see the show tonight which sucks. Hopefully you will all tweet as it goes along so I can at least follow what’s happening!
I want to join with everyone who has thanked our moderators for such a great experience all season. It has been fun. I hope that we get to have another thread or continue on this one during this last night. The threads like this have been some of my favorite all year. It has added another dimension to this site and helps me determine if I am seeing what I think I am. It’s been fun.
I’m sad the season is ending. It’s been one of the best. So glad Amber got the encore. All of my votes went to Jack, but if she wins, I’ll be happy with it.
I don’t think this can be said enough, thank you to everyone who maintains this sight. It’s a joy to read and your time and work are appreciated by so many. I’m already looking forward to next season when we can do this again!
ahhhh, Amber was thrilled. The MBT was Corbin’s to win/lose. They lost me with several of their dances and especially that tricked-out MJ freestyle. Corbin stated MJ was one of his heroes. That’s good, but maybe, just maybe, instead of imitating MJ during their freestyle, K & C should have been a bit more creative.
Now, back to Amber. 3 cheers to Mark & ??? for lifting Amber up, good job guys!
I think it was Keyshawn who helped Mark lift Amber.
It feels weird to be posting a week later, but we were out of town and did not see the shows on DVR until last night. This may be the last post on this article.
The three finalists were all deserving, and Amber is a very good winner.
Just a few remarks about some of the pros, whom we have enjoyed very much this year, including the little snippets we see at commercial breaks.
Derek is in a class by himself, so glad to read that he’s going to be on the cruise.
We thought Karina maybe tried a little to hard. It was interesting that others have remarked that the packages each week did not reveal a softer side, which I’m sure is there.
Cheryl was a favorite for us this year – a surprise after previous years, quite frankly. It may have been working with Jack and his MS. I have had an aunt and uncle who had this disease, and several cousins as well (it seems to run in families?) The amount of effort he has had to put forth is unbelievable. It really seemed like each week Cheryl became more and more understanding about the process. Also, the close-ups on her in rehearsal, without make-up but showing off the cute freckles, really made her a lot more “real” to us this season. Anyway, congratulations to her for really making a partnership work!
Emma was a class act all season and by far did the most to improve their partner. She could be a force for many years, and is just so likeable.
As for next year, we hope TPTB give Witney a shot at a celeb partner. Lindsey took the Boxer through five weeks which was a miracle, Tyne had a shot this year with Bill Nye, so we would really like to see what Witney could do. While we were out of town we caught some old SYTYCD episodes on an obscure cable channel, and she had some really good dances across all styles.
Overall, since there were so fewer pro dances this year that we saw because of the one show format, we cherished them more.
All in all, a terrific season.
