Glamour Interviews the DWTS Season 18 Finalists
Great interviews by Jessica Radloff – I’ve put a small excerpt below, and you can read all of them at Glamour.com:
Glamour: So now that you’ve revealed you’ll be dancing to New Kids on the Block in your freestyle…
Candace: Amazing!
Mark: No!
Glamour: Ugh, fine! Let’s get down to business. @DWTSGossip wants to know what you enjoy more, Mark? Teaching the dance, creating the dance, or performing the dance?
Candace: It’s not teaching the dance to Candace. I can answer that for you!
Mark: I really enjoy creating the dance. I don’t like teaching it. I love performing it. Even as a child when I had to compete, I hated having to practice. I hated the lessons. It just goes on and on and on. I just wanted to get out there and do it. The creative and the performance aspect, I live for that, but I understand you have to go through the teaching process first.
Glamour: @Internetloves wants to know if it’s hard to hear songs that you’ve danced to without always recounting the steps in your head?
Mark: I can’t listen to “Say Something” anymore.
Candace: That was one of my favorite songs, and I can’t even listen to it anymore because it was such a hard dance and it ruined the song for me. But now, even songs that I listen to, even if it was one of Maks and Meryl’s, or Charlie and Sharna’s, I’m always seeing the dance now instead of listening purely to the song.
Glamour: I overheard you saying that you’ve already surpassed your goal just by getting to the finals, so if not you, who would you like to see win the Mirrorball trophy?
Mark: It’s hard. For consistency and natural dance ability, Meryl is a winner. Maks has done incredible work this season and deserves a shot. Peta too. Peta and James have come a long way. But to pick one, it’s tough. Out of loyalty, I’d back Derek. He’s family.
New Kids On The Block? LOL OK.
Derek’s hint of the freestyle being ‘the sky’s the limit’. I can hardly stand it. I’m so excited to see it.
Maks/Meryl – Stripped down
Peta/James – Highe energy party
And the Loca dance with Amy this time. Monday is going to be a great night!
I wish she did nkotb, it would so fun!
Maks, I know you were not paying attention but Kenny have a standing ovation to ?amy after her quickstep. Bruno and Carrie Ann out of their seats too.
I am very curious about Amy’s freestyle. Meryl has that huge fan base but curious and hope they do will get the casual fans to vote.
What I find odd about this interview is that she asked Candace and James who they wanted to win. Why ask any of the couples that? Don’t they all want to win? I dunno, it just sounded insulting. I also didn’t like Mark’s answer to that question. Prior to this, most of the pros and celebs who were voted off said they wanted Amy to win. Now it seems like more of them are mouthing the “Meryl and Maks” line.
I’m finding this quote from the article *very* interesting (it’s Derek talking): “Anyway, you’re not meant to cry your eyes out, but we tried all the prosthetics we could try, more or less, and we’re like, “OK, what’s next? What’s the next thing?” People say, “When you put your mind to it, the sky is the limit,” so we’re like, “Hmmm, let’s try that,” so that’s all I’m going to say.”
What I’m wondering is, is Derek going to create a freestyle for Amy that doesn’t use her prosthetics (for at least part of the dance)?

That’s what it sounds like doesn’t it. I get the feeling, Derek being the forward thinking genius he is, that they’re doing the routine in the air and/or without prosthetics. Saying we don’t want sympathy for her injury and make people cry, we’ve tried all the different legs already, what else can we do. That little mad man has a surprise in store and I can’t wait.
I gotta be honest, Ashley, that “little mad man” freaks me the hell out. 🙂
Not gonna lie, after losing Golden Charlie and Gorgeous Sharna in the semi-finals, I’ve had a hard time drumming up much interest in the finals. However, watching Candace/Mark, James/Peta and Amy/Derek’s rehearsal clips in this piece kind of perked me up a bit.
PH, I have to agree with you, Derek’s “hint” is scaring the crap out of me. While I know it will be beyond awesome, I’m not sure I could stand the vileness of the anit-Amy faction if she danced without her prosthetics. They are so warped and shallow that all they’d be able to see was a play for “pity votes”. I think I might just lose it if I have to read that kind of ugliness.
Count me in as being a little freaked out, but super excited, at Derek’s comment. He knows Amy is as fearless as he is too lol.
Fans threatened by ?Amy when their favorite, Meryl, came in as a dancer need to look at themselves in the mirror. Again, she worked with Alex Wong, who could teach Maks a thing or two about dancing. All Maks has to do is give Meryl choreo he would say for his DWM show sway. Which is probably what he will do and he will win, etc. It is awful Meryl fans are so defensive when people dare to call out Meryl and Maks favoritism,
Amy has already won. Won when folks like Julz who knows nothing about the process and challenges and then says she should do more. Again, this is the same guy win kept saying why can’t Derek make Amy do pivots. Because she can’t. It is a compliment to Amy and Derek that they do such a good job their critics are nervous.
I am nervous about their freestyle. But I know he will give her the best dance and leave her mark win or lose.
@PH
I know and in a good way. 🙂
