Tony Dovolani Interviewed About Ballroom With A Twist In Dallas And Dancing With The Stars
The White Rock Lake Weekly has a fun article up on Ballroom With A Twist which is set to premiere in Dallas on July 19th. Producers told them “it will feature colorful, sparkly costumes with yards of fringe like those seen on “Dancing with the Stars.” They also said the show will feature “magnificent music and breathtaking performances, pushing the boundaries of ballroom dance while infusing it with the energy and intensity of the latest contemporary and ‘hip-hop’ styles.”
White Rock Lake Weekly also talked with Tony Dovolani on the show. He’s looking very forward to visiting and dancing in Dallas especially being how he’s golfed at the Dallas Cowboys Golf Course. He also talked with them about Dancing With The Stars. Here is what he said about his partners, the competition, his career, how long he plans to do the show and more…
He admits that, although he’s had a great time with all of his partners, he especially enjoyed Melissa Rycroft, with whom he won Season 15, Susan Lucci and Leah Remini. He said he respected partners Kathy Ireland and Kate Goslyn, neither of whom ever had a dance lesson. “They were ready to learn and great partners,” he said.
During the three months of the season, the pros don’t get any breaks or days off. Training is intense throughout.
Of course, the longer the stars stay in the competition, the more they practice. “It takes about three week to unwind after a season ends to wind down,” Dovolani explained.
When asked about injuries, Dovolani said he’s hurt his back, toes and knee, for starters. “I do not know one dancer who dances without injuries.” During the season, the dancers endure six to 12 hours of rehearsal every day.
The dancer has become a health and wellness expert who demonstrates how dance leads to fitness, confidence and overcoming health issues.
He has guest-hosted segments of television shows including “Ellen,” the Golf Channel’s “The Morning Drive” and ABC’s syndicated “On the Red Carpet” and “Good Morning America.” He and fellow dancers Maksim and Val Chmerkovskiy are partners in Dance With Me USA Dance Studios in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
The 40-year-old lives in Connecticut with his wife of almost 15 years, Lina, and three children, Luana and twins Adrian and Ariana. During the season, his family generally comes to town to see the show, but last season he was able to make it home a number of times. “My wife is the best person I know. Marrying her was the best thing I ever did in my life,” he said.
When asked how long he plans to do the show, he said, “As long as they’ll have me. I love the difference it makes in a person’s life and how it inspires others.”

Loved him in Glambo!! 😉
One of the most genuine people on tele at the moment. I was so happy when he won with Melissa He would be a wonderful judge eventually like Kym has been in australia.
I felt bad for him till season 15. Then his ego just inflated beyond measure. Completely turned me off. And his choreography is always boring.
I agree Ananya. Tony has absolutely no reason to be so full of himself with what he’s produced on DWTS. I still can’t believe people consider him a nice guy, and he always says bad things about Derek behind his back. Stacy was easily his best partner, and he ruined their chances with that awful, awful Freestyle. You will never get pity from me, Tony. I see right through you!
I agree…Tony is boring. His choreo is bland. His All-Star win with Melissa R. was a pity trophy as Shawn J was a far better dancer…sorry but how is 3rd place your season condsidered All Star worthy??
i do think his banter with Leah Remini in their Extra interviews is HILARIOUS!
@KellyK …I agree, I did like his and Leah’s interview after S18. I couldn’t help thinking “if only they would have gotten along like that instead of Leah being so hard on herself and down.” I know she made a big change in her personal life, but sometimes it’s much better to replace the old with something new, and I would have grabbed onto DWTS experience with everything I had and give it 100% drive. Maybe she had time to bury the past since last fall, when she did this interview.
Now who could get anything but Mr Nice Guy out of that “Osmond” smile? Tony is my man and I think he is a splendid dancer.LOVE to watch him dance. He ALWAYS makes his partner look great! And he looks great…more bare chest, please.
Tony is a strange one. You never know which Tony you are going to get. one season he is likeable (like he was with Stacey, Melissa, Leah, and a couple of other times) and others he is just a bit too tough or too not into the competition because he knows he doesn’t have a shot (Kate Gosselin)
