DWTS Season 19 Week FIVE!! Let’s discuss tonight’s show! (Spoilers)
I will not be able to watch DWTS Live, but I may get a stream – we’re having tornadoes here and, obviously, I may have to leave the computer. Cross your fingers.
Again, DWTS wants us to pimp the livestream so….you can view Lacey’s Stream on our site, just click the link.
Once again, comment to your hearts contents, as long as you remember the show night rules. Some of you were VERY bad at this last week. If I see any repeat offenders this week, you might find yourself on moderation.
- Our server gets totally hosed when people sit at their computer and click “refresh” constantly. Post a comment, then walk away for five minutes so that others have a chance…and so that Courtney and I can actually post on the site. 🙂
- THIS SITE IS NOT TWITTER. Do not post like you are on twitter. You get one warning and then I put you in time out. 🙂 We need context and content. Believe it or not there are a lot of people who don’t watch the east coast feed of the show, so they don’t know what the hell you’re talking about when you post a comment that says, “Boy, that sucked.” If you want to say “____ and ____’s dance was not good at all, crappy choreo” that’s fine. That would be context. It is good. 😀 Remember, if you post five one liners in five minutes, you’ve broken rule number 1. 😉
I’m here!! Thanks god for the men in the opening number. Was starting to get worried about yet another bump and grind. I’m no prude, but that gets old after a while.
On the plus side, maybe this was Jesse J’s one performance for the night and her only bias is someone else singing her song while Janel dances.
God Val, put on a shirt. You ain’t all that. Same to you, Artem.
Antonio is dancing first?? He’s screwed.
Okay, that wasn’t fabulous, but it wasn’t quite the trainwreck I expected. DT says that he and Allison got along really well.
Team Badie!!! How hilarious. I think I would kill Mark if he made farting noises every time I bent over. 🙂
Bethany and Mark Hip Hop…I think I liked it. I’m not sure actually. I like the Hip Hop to be a bit harder I think. But she has the right look, the make up.
I love how Derek hangs over the balcony to hear what the judges are saying. He’s so involved.
Gee….I wonder who they’re saving their 9’s for…. :::gag:::
That’s two weeks in a row that Bethany has gone early.
Wow…I’m sensing an agenda. Jonathan wasn’t that bad, I didn’t think. Maybe I’m missing something, but I thought that was his best dance yet.
Like how, before Jonathan danced, that Mark straight up called them out for hosing him on scores. So, what’s the deal? Is someone they want to go far doing poorly in the votes so they need to widen the margins?? I guess we’ll see when Janel dances. 🙂
Speaking of Janel – saw a bit of her routine on the red room cam and it looked like a freestyle with a bunch of lifts.
Alfonso freakin’ killed it!! Sure, he can’t do it like Derek did with Kellie, but he’s not a professional. Fantastic! I loved it!! Jules is going to hose him on the score though.
WTF?!?!?!? 8s?? AREYOUKIDDINGME!!!
Hahaha…Derek on All Access telling Sadie not to watch Janel and Artem’s package. Then told the kids to look away from the screen during the dance. LOL Derek: “Is she rubbing him? That’s SO inappropriate.” In Derek’s ‘I’m being funny’ voice.
Thanks god for Julianne – and I guess she would know Burlesque. Anyway, she made up for Beth’s 8s with that one. 😀
Okay, perhaps they’re going to finally give Sadie a score she deserves?? That’s where all the 9’s and 10’s are??
Uh oh, another storm line….
I can’t help but like Michael. 🙂 Man can’t dance but he’s fun as hell.
Loved Tommy as well.
Sadie KILLED it, but why do I think she’s going to get hosed yet again in scores??
Yep…hosed yet again. You couldn’t throw the girl one ten?? WTF?? Derek calling out the judges – you go boy.
Yeah…Janel and Val don’t play at showmancing. Nope. Nosiree. No showmancing here.
I love Lea, but if that dance scores better than Sadie’s I’ll be pissed. And then I’ll be worried she’s not getting the votes. Seriously, it was a good dance, but it wasn’t markedly better than either Bethany or Janel.
Okay, we can count on Julianne again to be a downer. In this case that might be a good thing. If CAI goes higher than 8 I might have to fly to LA and slap a bitch.
So, CAI seriously thinks that Lea’s dance was better than Bethany’s and as good as Sadie’s?? She’s been on crack all night. She should consider rehab.
It’s about to start!!, I’m really hoping that Beth and Mark get a high score, i’m really excited about the hip-hop, she needs to be good tonight so she won’t end up on the bottom half of the leaderboard! Fingers crossed 😀
Not a fan of the idea of Jessie J guest judging, but having watch Strictly Come Dancing this week, can’t be any worse than Donny Osmond
That opening number was great but damn can she sing! Just so weird to see someone that sounds like she does on the radio nowadays. Oh and the costume department clearly had fun w everyone tonight becuase as of now there are no bad outfits. Antonio looks like Aladdin on steroids.
Antonio dancing first, plus Bollywood – a high likelihood of low scores, and a good possibility of going home next week.
@lewis: I thought Donny did good as a judge stateside but he definately screwed up on scd. Jennifer grey was a guest judge on scd and she nailed it. Donny…..not so much.
Ooh, good luck with the weather tonight PH. Hope you are not affected!
Jessie J killed that opening performance. I gotta say, she’s one of those voices that are SO amazing, yet not a lot of people know of them. She can sing her butt off live for sure. Mostly looking forward to hearing her gorgeous British accent tonight. Hehehe.
Some weird outfits tonight but that was expected.
And obviously please stay safe princess Heidi!!!
is it me or is Cheryl not in the Pro numbers anymore?
Antonio getting Allison for a non-ballroom style is probably to his advantage. She’ll probably has a better grasp on Bollywood to be fair.
Hmmm. Antonio still looked incredibly stiff, and rather lackluster.
Stay safe PH!
I didn’t care for Antonio’s dance at all. And going first, I think he’s going to be forgotten before the night is over.
Julliane’s right, Allison overdancing kinda showed up Antonio a lot in the lacking of synchronicity and actually performance of the movements. He looked very happy performing this though
So I liked antonio’s dance this week but i can’t help but recall Giles and peta and the syncronicity thing was definately noticeable. Jessie j gave a 6 and I love her for it
Good for Jessie J – not afraid to pull out the low numbers!
Clearly someone didn’t give Jessie J the message that DWTS scores higher than SCD! I like seeing the six (it gives her lots of leeway to score other couples higher) and I like the UK lower scores, but it is out of sync compared to the US judges. I’m now very interested to see the other dances.
And just like Jessie J is my favourite on the panel. A 6 is maybe still maybe a mark or two too high though. It was kinda a mess in timing
I loved seeing the 6. I wish she’d been a judge when Giles & Peta did their atrocious Bollywood number.
Mark is doing amazing choreography this season. Loved that routine. Good for Bethany and she did great imo.
Bethany was doing the movements fine, but I think there were moments she could have hit harder, but they looked good and really natural together even if it wasn’t my favourite choreography.
I enjoyed Bethany and Mark’s dance. And I liked how they used Sadie and Derek in it. Bethany is showing how much she’s learning and growing every week while having fun.
Bethany did an amazing job with Mark. I loved it so much and she totally rocked it!!!
Actually insane that Carrie Ann thought Antonio was as good as Bethany.
An 8 was a good score for Bethany, less so for Antonio
1st Quarter:
Ugh, another pro (opening) number
Antonio still stiff but at least he seemed to enjoy performing that one. Meanwhile JJ takes the award for one’s comments not matching their scoring.
So not a fan of hiphop but nice job from Bethany and Mark.
Bethany was way better than Antonio, but Carrie Ann has her drooling factor in play. She probably stared at his chest the whole time.
Is it weird that this was my favorite Bethany dance?
I love a girl who can THROW DOWN
I am sure she messed up a few times but she attacked it so well, it was hard to see. I’ve seen them do hip hop like that on sytycd and it’s definitely more nappy tabs than krump lol
I freaking love Jessie J and I think she has actually been a pretty decent judge
@9- Cheryl’s been in most of the pro numbers this season I think.
So Carrie Ann thinks that Bethany’s dance (which had great synchronicity and so much attack) was as good as Antonio’s (who had TERRIBLE synchronicity and looked bad half the time)… Ok Carrie Ann.. Thanks.
I’m so not agreeing with the score for B and M, I mean she wasn’t perfect BUT she was waaaaay better than Mr. stiff hips. Carrie Ann is so smitten with him that she can’t really pay attention to the dance, he was way over scored
Oh and I didn’t watch Antonio’s judging but I agreed with Jessie and I think Carrie Ann is crazy
I love Allison but I kind of wished Jonathan had Peta the whole time….. Some of the psycho dancing moments would have been contained with someone with more experience
I have to agree with the judges on Jonathan’s dance. It was painful to watch. I don’t know a lot of the technical stuff, but the mistakes were obvious even to me. I did feel bad watching Peta and Alison’s face during the critique.
Bethany and mark were good. I think it got the right score but clearly mark disagrees lol. Jonathan and peta were good but honestly I feel as if he will still be in jeopardy nonetheless. Nice to see what he can do with a pro like peta. He can handle the choreo for sure but Jessie j kinda said it best in her critique. Peta was clearly holding her anger/maks-like comments in and honestly I feel that he was underscored at the same time. Allison looked annoyed beyond belief as well.
Poor Jonathan
I was hoping for so much more for Jonathan, but I could see the judges’ points. Going to have to vote for him – I want him to stick around longer than Antonio.
Huh…odd.I typed more than Just poor Jonathan and nothing else posted after my emojis!! I know this ain’t twitter guys! anyway the rest of my comment was boy jessie J is brutal and people thought Julie Ann was mean? wow!! sure it wasn’t perfect but it wasn’t as bad as they all said it was
Why the hell are the judges so mean to Jonathan. The bullcrap that is going to happen with scoring for Janel and Lea is about to make me crazy. I am really feeling the producers pimping in this.
Well, I can’t disagree with the judges on Jonathan’s dance. It was uncomfortable to watch. i was afraid someone was going to get dropped.
I don’t know who I feel worse for Peta or Jonathan. I was holding my breath the whole time and scared that he would drop her on his face. Oh that was just a mess
I miss Len!!
Jonathan did better than friggin Antonio but he was a hot mess.
So there are things I will never be able to unsee: jck nicholsons here’s johnny scene, the clown from it, Tony’s audition video.
Loved Alfonso’s dance! I was pulled into it and really enjoyed it.
@Vin, I agree. Tony’s audition video was scary beyond words.
A little delayd on this end. Alfonso just finished. I am not impressed so far by any of the dances. I was not drawn into Alfonso’s dance, it looked more like an Argentine Tango than a Flamenco to my untrained eye.
Alfonso and Cheryl…..Wow! Such a killer dance. Idk what I liked more, the fact he brought up his anniversary or that dance. If I dont get to see a paso from Cheryl this season, this would more than make up for it
At this point, barring a miracle, it looks like Jonathan is going home next week.
Shame, since he has tons of enthusiasm, which makes the show more fun.
I think that could have been given all 9s, the intensity was there, the technique was there, there were just a few movements that looked odd with his body type. Like the knee slides weren’t a good look
And I agree with the posters who said that Bethany’s and Antonio’s (and Alfonso’s) dances are *not* equal. There is *no* way all of those dances deserved the same score from CAI. Man.
Alfonso’s dance was good, but there were some missed connections – and I still prefer Derek and Kellie’s flamenco, both in choreography and execution.
CARRIE ANN GAVE AN 8 TO ANTONIO AND ALFONSO…. At this point I think she’s just trying to be an idiot
Even though Jonathan’s dance was messy but I enjoyed it more than Antonio’s. I see Peta took advantage of the Chmerkovskiy clothing lines BOGO sale on hoodlum rehearsal pants.
BWHAHA @ the Tony Boy George Dovolani audition tape.
Alfonso is a consummate performer but I much prefer him with Whitney.
8’s for Alfonso, oh please. CA gave Antonio an 8 for that mess of a dance. What’s wrong with these judges.
I’m so pissed off right now! 8s!? WTH was their excuse for 8s? That’s bull!
Okay, I guess I’m gonna sound like a big ol’ debbie downer but I didn’t think Alfonso’s dance was all that amazing x___x
I guess I kinda just wanted a bit more from him, maybe. I don’t know.. It was good though but didn’t really “amaze” me, per se. Slightly agree with their score.
So Janel is next. Good. Glad she doesn’t get the pimp spot. Hope that one is for Michael’s disco!
Sorry for the semi one-liners. But Tony’s tryout video may be the hi-lite of the night. Tom’s making a lackluster evening a bit more tolerable for me.
Crazy scoring! Carrie Ann giving Alfonso and Antonio 8? I’m guessing she will give Janel 10 just for Artem’s chest.
She gives Janel good scores because they are both from Hawaii.
No, just no. I didn’t like that at all. Thank you Julianne for your comments. Bruno, please be quiet. That style of dance should not be on this show. There are so many dances that can be done where this one can be left off the list.
I really enjoyed that, and I personally thought there was Burlesque aspects to it, even if I do understand where Julianne though, there wasn’t enough teasing or slow moments. I don’t think it needed comedy though
But that last lift sequence was not good. That was a bit of a mess
And in my opinion, Janel was way overscored.
Thank you Julianne and CAI. Think CHICAGO and pick any dance they did, it was cheeky and sexy. Any dance you do that makes the first words out of your mouth an apology to your parents–well, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it that way.
That was actually very, very uncomfortable to watch. I was not a fan.. How exactly was that Bulesque? It just looked like Jazz.. and some lifts. I didn’t get it. Of course Bruno goes crazy over it.
Lots of synchronicity issues with Janel’s dance, and clunky lifts as well – of course, not surprised by Bruno’s score… Didn’t really enjoy this, and I’m glad the judges weren’t raving.
Janel must not be getting the votes TPTB want her to have so they’re making up for it with the judges scores. No way did that deserve a better score than Alfonso.
Well at the half way point I’m feeling a bit schizophrenic.
The Bollywood was out of sync. Actually it would have been more shocking if it wasn’t out of sync. It was way too fast for Antonio to keep up with.
The hip hop was sort of a hip hop light, which I think I’m ok with because I just can’t buy Beth as a hardcore gangsta. She did show really lovely musicality tonight.
Poor Jonathon. I would have been puking in a bucket after that Jitterbug. Non-stop, very fast dancing. It wasn’t great but it also wasn’t as bad as the judges made it out to be.
I loved Alfonso and Cheryl! This is one of those dances I’ll be watching years from now. Idiotic judges. Just Blergh!!
I mean what annoyed me most is that the gloves Janel was wearing were like the absolute typical Burlesque gloves that are removed slowfully and playfully in routines by for example Dita Von Teese. I liked the routine for what it was, but it was full of missed opportunities.
What the hell is this with Val being in EVERY dance, random shot pushed out front constantly ??? Obvious much ??
Wow, Janel sure provided the sleaze. If you have to apologize to your dad…maybe you shouldn’t do it.
The only thing that could keep Antonio or Jonathan from going home next week is Michael. He seems like a nice guy and he’s enjoying himself, but he can’t dance. It’s getting hard to watch him.
@Lynne she was performing the choreography given to her that fit the style given to her in the costume given to her. What was she meant to do? Not perform to her fullest? Refuse to dance?
Carrie Ann is an a hole. Sorry this is a twitter type remark but she is mean and rude.
Does anyone feel like Janel’s whole routine was a “lets make Val jealous” routine.
Well, i’m actually glad that Janel didn’t get 10s, I like her as an actress but i don’t know, i’m not happy with the whole “Janel & Val romance” she has a boyfriend so clearly i’m not buying it. I guess D and Sadie will be one of the bests of the night just because it’s Derek so, we’ll see
Jannel and Val and Michael and witney had the same issue for me: great on paper but just not the execution was just subpar.
STOP THE ONE LINERS NOW. Or else.
When the switch up dances aren’t good, it’s so hard to watch the pro’s face when they’re getting critiqued. They don’t want to let the other pro or the celeb down and it’s disheartening to see how dejected they look when the dance turns out to be dreadful.
Hit submit too quickly. So as I was saying great on paper and subpar execution and I can’t really blame witney in this case becuase she really wanted a fun routine. Goal acheived. Artem on the other hand messed up royally. He should have realized this would happen. Can’t blame jannel but in a way I feel like she kinda egged him on a bit.
That is the biggest joke of a score tonight. They were far better and looked more comfortable together than Antonio and Cheryl and the lifts were far more secure than Jonathan and Peta. I personally think a 26-ish would have been better.
You seem to be suggesting the celeb has no input. That is not true. Their have been celebs in the past who have put the kabosh on things they felt were too sleazy. Janel was proud of the sleaze. Perhaps I am just old. I have seen lots of sexy dances on DWTS. Some were appropriate and a few crossed the line. In my opinion this one crossed the line.
Cindy…from your post to the judges’ scores and the fan votes. That was just awful. Really hi-lited how bad he is. Maybe he’s inhaled too much…Hi-octane fuel.
The reason it may not have posted, KellyK is because other people are posting one liners and bogging the site down.
Really could have done without seeing that double handed crotch lift and hold move from Janel and Artem.
Ok while I’m glad they stopped giving everyone 10s, I want to ask wth is wrong with CAI. What’s up with those 8s?
And I like Jessie J, she’s funny and is fair with her scores. Also, enough with the guests already! I don’t care about Pitbull, bring back Len!
Lewis, you need context.
Cindy – no more one liners.
Misty, who are you referring to with the 8’s comment. CONTEXT!
#PH We apologize for the one-liners. Our comments are indicative of the dances. Not much happening on the floor, not much to say here. 😉
If you’ve not got anything more than one line, don’t post it. Wait till you have more and use the contestants NAMES in your posts. This is NOT TWITTER.
Based on the comments of the judges and their scores tonight, I’m starting to believe they want Michael, Antonio, Jonathan and Tommy gone. Doesn’t matter what order, they just want them on their way. And chances are that will happen since they are the weakes dancers left. But oh, a surprise elimination of Janel would be nice.
Tommy and Emma were perfectly paired. She got a good dance out of him that was not only amusing but had some really good moments. Loved how she went to peta for advice as well. Now that song choice oddly worked really well. Emma handles Tom’s question perfectly so +1 for that Emma. Tommy does need to step up his game and pull another surprise out like he did in movie week. Also loved how he was so chill too.
I didn’t feel as if we saw anything new from Janel.
Hardly noticed either Michael or Tommy with their scantily clad partners, which I’m guessing was their gameplan.
Let’s hope Sadie and Lea can salvage what has been an underwhelming night of dancing.
I never want to see switch-up night ever again. The judges are pissing me off. Like PISSING ME OFF. Give critiques, but enough already! I miss Len!
Who are you talking about Lewis? Since you don’t use a name and I”m not reading it as you post it, I can’t tell. GET MY POINT???
And quit spamming. If you’re every third of fourth comment, you’re not following the rules.
Even Shawn Johnson is calling the judges out on twitter for their nastiness tonight. I’d say that’s pretty bad when she hasn’t tweeted about DWTS in awhile.
Shout out to Emma for also calling them mean today. I can hardly stand to watch this episode. Man I am so disgusted.
#PH – what kids was Derek telling not to watch their package? I’m not Surpised…. I wish someone told me not to watch it too
I have never wanted Val’s partners to leave…. I love val….. But I want Janel gone. I’ve had enough
Ok so.. not liking this season’s Switch Up. Lot’s of really harsh criticism and scoring. The night has just felt very weird so far. Hopefully Sadie and Lea can turn it around and deliver amazing performances. I have a feeling Sadie will, anyways. I have high hopes for Lea also.
And pittbull?! Ugh. He is one of those people I like musically but hate when he does interviews and everything else. It’s just a little worrying becuase he seems like the kind of guy who will want to make everyone happy.
Ah I just saw you’re next comment I apologize I am watching live and assumed everyone would be watching at the same time ie. the comments would fit the routines currently airing, sorry I’ll name the dancers from now on.
He was talking to the camera, Megan. He was joking, but it was pretty funny.
Lewis, read your posts as if it wasn’t you posting. Without using people’s names, would others know who you were talking about if they read it, say, during the Pacific time zone airing of the show?
Sadie just saved the night for me. It was a pretty lackluster night until now. That was a really amazing Charleston but I get the feeling she’s about to get hosed.
And sure enough she does… that deserved at least one 10. Pfft.
Loved that routine from Sadie and Derek, the choreography was great and the song was a great for the genre Definitely the best of tonight, I just think Sadie could do with a bit more core strength, sometimes her limbs seems a bit flaily, like they need more strength in them.
Haaaate it when they say they couldn’t tell the difference between the pros and the celebs because it’s a ridiculous statement to make.
Sadie and Derek were so much fun! Well done! Given the overall scoring tonight, fair scores. However, I will be *very* annoyed if they pull out undeserved 10’s for Val.
Yea. Thank you Derek & Sadie. A dance that was fun and on point. Really enjoyed the opening that showcased Sadie. Pit Bull! Awesome. I like that guy, like his story. I think he will have some interesting commentary. So is Len not coming back until the final 4?
I liked Michael and Witney’s Disco. she really got him to move across the dance floor.
I’m in love with Emma’s costume tonight. I just enjoy watching him dance so much.
It’s astonishing how fast Sadie can get her legs to move. She hasn’t disappointed me once.
The judges definitely drank their bitch juice today. They’re usually ridiculous but this is new levels of idiocy.
Umm, I didn’t like The Val/Leah routine, has nothing to do with Val IT seemed very disconnected and so many repetitive steps. Overall, for me, probably one of the worst nights on DWTS in a very long time. Longest 2 hours of my life, minus the dental visits.
Kudos to Val for acknowledging the troupe.
Can’t wait for the PH & Courtney wrap up.
Lea > Janel with either Artem or Val. Cute dance to end the nigth.
I haven’t watched Lea’s yet, but I enjoyed Alfonso’s the best.
Tough dance to learn with a new partner and he did fantastic.
I don’t know how, but Sadie looked like she was taller than Derek on the dance floor. Still was a good, fun dance. I didn’t like the song at all, so I doubt I will be watching it again.
In all, I still hate the switching of partners and guest judges.
I sure wish it was Carrie Ann that would take a break and not Len.
Judges were quite harsh tonight.
I actually found myself enjoying the switch-up partnerships than than their regular ones. I’m not sure what that means though…
Highlights for me: Lea/Val, Mark/Beth, Alfonso/Cheryl, Sadie/Derek
Good: Janel/Artem
Okay: Tommy/Emma, Johnathon/Peta, Antonio/Peta
Bad: Michael/Witney… The guy just can’t move.
I just saw that “Burlesque” and yeah that wasn’t a proper burlesqu. I must say that I found myself looking through them and staring at Sharna and her legs. I don’t know if that’s because I really really don’t like Janel, or… Well yeah that’s pretty much the reason.
I think a 7 would’ve been okay, just to balance the horny 9 Bruno gave her.
I love Lea but I will admit that wasn’t her best dance. I still thought it was really cute though and it was the better ones of the night.
So the bests of the night for me were Sadie, Bethany and Lea (in that order)
Then the middle-of-the-road dances were Alfonso, Jonathan, Tommy and Janel (in that order),
Then the worst of the night for me were Antonio and Michael (in that order).
And the DWTS Twitter said next week is Pitbull Week? Lol. Are they running out of themes? Sigh…
Can we please have Len back already? I liked Jessie J tonight but Len just balances everything out. I could not stand Julianne and Carrie Ann tonight. And I usually tolerate Bruno and find him funny but even he was a pain in the rear sometimes.
I’m just looking forward to Halloween Night on Week 7 (as DWTSGossip said). My favorite thene night everrrr.
Overall that was quite a disappointing night, although I prefer latin and standard routines to the other styles anyway.
I think ranking them for me would be
1. Sadie & Derek – Great routine, suited her personality and she had fun with it
2. Alfonso & Cheryl – Loved seeing another more intense side of him and he pulled off the routine with aplomb
3. Lea & Val – Super fun, and particularly well danced on both parts
4. Janel & Artem – While I wasn’t a big fan of the choreography (not the apparent “sleeze”, more the missed tease) it was danced and performed well for what it was.
5. Bethany & Mark – Lacked a certain spark from Bethany’s performance (maybe I don’t connect with her) and strength, but better than I thought she would be.
6. Tommy & Emma – Awful song for the genre and it showed. Was never going to be a showstopper but it just kinda fell flat.
7. Michael & Witney – Witney created a great routine for Michael, but he just isn’t a great dancer. Fun though.
8. Jonathan & Peta – Pretty much the same issues as Antonio, with added messy lift transistions
9. Antonio & Cheryl – Antonio had fun, but that’s about the only positive I can draw from this. He looked clunky and was out of time throughout
Yikes, the judges are just cray cray tonight esp. Carrie Ann. They forgot to take their happy pills before coming in haha…
I didn’t care for tonight for some reason. I hope Bethsny and Derek get to stay next week. I missed them.
I loved Alfonso and Cheryl’s flamenco dance. Wow!
Okay, so now I know who Jessie J is. How many times did she say that she hadn’t seen the couple dance before tonight? To me, she was a complete waste of time. *meh*
Poor Michael the judges were so harsh. Funny thing is, their routine was one of my favorites of the night. I just couldn’t stop smiling. Witney is pretty darn amazing, her choreography is fresh and fun.
Artem is creepy….
Except for Carrie Ann’s inconsistent 8’s, I thought the judging was pretty accurate tonight – tough, but spot on. I did like Whitney and Michael together, but he really can’t dance. I usually like Tommy, but I thought the song kept their routine from having any pizazz. He looked sluggish to me. Loved Sadie – best dance of the night. It will be really interesting to see who goes home next week. I can hardly wait for the Rankings and Dancing by the Numbers to see what our mods think.
Sadie and Derek were easily my fav dance of the season so far. Easily. That was fun and quick and in case I didnt emphasize the fun part enough I have to say joyous. Really feel like that should have gotten tens. Now Lea and Val were great as well and I can see the producers influence off the bat (the little old ladies walking on fifth avenue is pretty unforgettable) and it was fun. If tonight was any indication of future scoring we are in for some fun (and by fun i mean anguishing underscoring and knit picking)
Judges were ridiculous tonight, it was if Julianne was desperate for an excuse to give low marks. Really annoyed me when she tried to make out that Lea had a unsure moment and Lea didn’t know what she was talking about. Shocked that Sadie didn’t get at least one 10 and thought Alfonso was underscored as well. Janel was the only dance overscored, for me she looked really stiff and I don’t think Julianne likes Janel that much, did anyone see her face when Bruno gave her that 9? I honestly don’t believe anyone was really better with their new professional partners than with their original ones. You could tell it was quite a nervous night for everyone maybe especially with the new dance styles. No offence to Jessie J as I thought she was the best guest judge so far but I miss Len.
So, at the end of the night…Lea and Janel seriously overscored while the dancers with the harder choreo (Beth, Sadie, Alfonso) were pretty hosed in the scores. Dare I say those who were underscored are the ones getting the votes? I mean, they don’t like Beth (or is it Mark?) at all, yet her dance was harder than Janel’s and Janel was a point higher. Sadie gets no love and Derek cut her no slack at all.
And Alfonso got 8’s?? Fuckers.
The judges were so wacky tonight. And please …they way over scored Lea and Val.
Also, I’m fearing the most for Michael now.
Tonight was seriously wacked. I didn’t see every dance as we were in the middle of our Thanksgiving dinner, but I saw most of them. Alfonso and Sadie were seriously hosed. I didn’t get to see Bethany’s so can’t comment. That was dancing Janel? Seriously? And the judges were just mean. I really did not enjoy tonight at all.
I’m not loving Alison as a pro I’m afraid. it seems to be all about her and not her partner. Artem just gives me the creeps. Never thought I’d say this, but bring back Len and get rid of Jules.
This was one of the weirdest, uncomfortable episodes of DWTS in a long time. I wasn’t too upset with the actual scores but the delivery of the judges’ commentary was just so harsh and bitchy. It just felt unpleasant. I really wish they hadn’t done all these weird, non standard dance styles during switch up week.
My favorites tonight were Lea and Val and Derek and Sadie.
Least favorite were Michael and Witney and Antonio and Allison.
Biggest disappointment was Jonathan and Peta. I really thought Peta would do a great job with Jonathan but that routine had so many lifts and tricks and he never seemed to have his footing with them.
I usually like Julianne as a judge but tonight I felt like her comments were just mean, especially to Tommy. And I loved how the Pros were speaking up about the crazy low scores
Heidi, couldn’t agree more. I would have given Alfonso and Cheryl a huge 10! I wish they had paired those two together.
Joanne/Carlie – not only are you trolling, you’re doing it under two names. Would you like to be blocked? You and all your sockpuppets??
Alfonso’s score should embarrass the crap out of the judges. It was so underscored in the technique alone. Janel needs to be given a proper ballroom dance now but i bet next week she gets contemporary! The judges should also be ashamed of themselves for their comments to Jonathan, Tommy and Michael. There is no place for their rude and insensitive remarks in a reality dance show. Who are they trying to convince as we all know the thing is pretty much a set up. Tonight just annoyed me from beginning to end and I am very much looking forward to some moderator critiques. Personally, this was the worst episode I have ever seen and that is saying sonething!
This is probably a question for another article so forgive mods. But based on tonight’s scores who do you think will go next week? Surely with the points difference it can’t be anyone other than Michael, Jonathan or Antonio? Respect to Allison by the way for giving a routine that Antonio could go out and at least give it a right go. I’m sorry but Michael pains me, I can put up with him but I see him outlasting someone in a shock elimination and that would drive me mental! Unless it was Janel ;D
Okay, got my answer. Buh bye.
I actually think Julianne is there to take over from Len eventually. She always gives the celebs something to work on. When she tells Sadie that she messed up her entry a little or Lea that she was hesitant, I think she is explaining why she is not giving them a higher mark. I think Len would have had some of the same comments that the other judges had tonight. I also agree that the celebs not pulling in the votes are getting scored higher. I’m sure that Bethany is getting tons of votes; that’s why she is scored in the middle of the pack.
M8, we do entire posts on who’s likely to go home. Mine usually posts on Wednesday (although I’m traveling this week so I might be late) and Courtney’s posts usually before noon on Tuesdays.
Ah okay! I’ll certainly look out for them. Thanks Heidi 🙂
I know I already commented on my preference of dances but I wanted to give further comments – sorry for not thinking before posting. It’s hard ranking because there were 4 I loved, 4 I disliked and then one leftover.
Lea/Val: This was my favorite of the night. Very fun and clean, and Val made himself look pretty hot for an old guy haha. I loved the dancing with the walkers. Overall I really enjoyed them together and kind of wish they could continue together.
Beth/Mark: Really enjoyed them as partners, especially since this was the first time I really found myself liking her in the video package. Their dance was great, full of energy, and underscored.
Alfonso/Cheryl: I enjoyed this dance and getting to see him do something very different from what Witney would do. I think one of the best parts of the switch up is seeing new experiences from them and it was a good dance.
Sadie/Derek: I also really enjoyed them as partners. I was disappointed by them underscoring her again. She consistently does well.
Janel/Artem: I was impressed by the lifts, but overall I wasn’t wowed by it. I did not think it was sleazy, and again overall it just got lost in the middle. There were better dances and worse ones.
Tommy/Emma: I love that Tommy tries and he proves to have more rhythm to his steps that I hope he stays around longer than Michael or Johnathon.
Johnathon/Peta: I was cringing because I was so worried he was going to drop Peta. He’s quite stiff and I’m ready to see him go.
Antonio/Allison: She dances too big compared to her partners that I don’t remember Antonio at all because she was distracting. She needs to tone down and highlight her partners
Michael/Witney: While I’m not Michael fan I thought this was underscored. 6s would have been better. I felt bad for Witney.
I had higher hopes for this season’s switch up compared to last season’s but alas it was also disappointing.
Why the judges start pulling out 5 and 6 paddles instead of at the beginning of the season when it’s actually deserved just shows how ass backwards they (and the producers who I’m sure push some kind of agenda) are. As said earlier, Carrie Ann giving the same scores to Antonio, Bethany, and Alfonso’s dance is ludicrous and I’m ready for her to make a swift exit. Julianne can be harsh but I usually like the type of criticism she gives because it’s constructive and honest and comes from a good place, IMO.
Overall, a way lackluster night. Liked Beth and Mark’s routine and I enjoyed them on social media the past week. They seem very fun together. Alfonso was good but I think a mix of 8’s and 9’s was fair. Sadie’s fun and cute but I’ve noticed from week 1 that she’s frequently off the beat a bit sometimes and it’s usually when she’s doing the hip shakes which funnily enough was featured and in the very beginning of her routine tonight. I’m glad it was pointed out tonight because they pointed it out for everyone else but she’s in no danger of leaving either way. Cannot wait for Janel to be eliminated. Just a try-hard, over the top, shameless mess. Every time I see her hanging off another dark-haired European, I just wanna say “Girl, where is your dignity?”
Don’t remember anything else which says a lot about tonight. Hopefully the couples are much better next week when back to their original partners.
I’m not really sure what I just watched. A very odd vibe with the show and I think it’s a combination of the producers trying to push drama and jealousy with the switch up and the judges just being kill joys all night.
Even though I’m not a big Mike fan I really don’t think he deserved 5s and I don’t think Jonathan deserved 6s. Even though I don’t like Antonio much I would be surprised to see Jonathan make it through next week honestly. I think having Cheryl as a partner will save Antonio another week. Poor Peta can’t catch a break with the switch up.
What pisses me off is that you have Alfonso dancing the Flamenco, a VERY difficult dance to master, he did it EXTREMELY well and you give him an 8 because who knows why and yet they are only one point ahead of Janel and even Antonio got 8s????? Sometimes being “good” is a real detriment on this show.
Um. That is all i have to say about the episode as a whole. Probably one of the worst in a while. GREAT pro numbers, but no dance was super noteworthy to me tonight. The judges were overly critical. I really felt bad for Jonathan. Not a fan of Allison on this show, and I was SO happy when he got Peta as a switch-up partner and I think that this was his best dance so far…until the lifts/tricks happened.
Lea had the best dance of the night, don’t know where all those 8s came from. CAI was even more annoying tonight than usual.
Alfonso still is my favorite, but it was not a memorable dance tonight in my opinion. I think that if he ever has the Paso Doble in the future he will be well prepared.
Antonio and Allison is two words…hot mess.
I just adore Michael and I really want him to see him shine, JA’s comments were a little too harsh to him tonight.
I feel like the judges didn’t take into account that all of the celebs had brand new partners and had 5 days (if even) to learn a new person’s teaching style. Also the music choices were not great tonight.
Does anyone know if next week is Latin Night? Pit Bull is the guest judge so that is why I was wondering if that is why they are bringing him. I expect a cross over between Redfoo and Ricky Martin. Should be good! But in reality I MISS LEN! He is the only sane one on the panel.
I don’t think the 4 judging panel is working. I wonder if the judging panel feels the same way?.. hence the bit of hostility tonight from the ladies aimed at the contestants. I think CAI most definitely likes being the solo lady on the panel and wants to keep it that way.
I actually think Julianne is doing a better job judging than either CAI OR Len. Len far too often gives Derek or Mark (or Karina or others) a 6 for something ridiculously stupid. I don’t expect to see that from Julianne. And CAI – was ridiculously bad tonight.
Anytime Alfonso, Antonio and Bethany all get 8’s you know shit is ridiculous. Antonio should have had 7’s, while Bethany and Alfonso should have had 10s. But this is the point of the season where those getting the harder dances aren’t getting credit for those harder dances. Pisses me off every season.
ETA: meant to add that 5’s and 6’s are totally appropriate in the first few weeks when they seem to overscore the crap out of everyone. Now, in week 5, they start throwing out those paddles? They are WEEKS too late and now the celebs are rightfully getting whiplash. Every season they do this stupid shit.
Can I say that I am not a fan of the hairstylist this season with all the buns on the front and sides of the head. They look hideous! I can see if they are doing a old Betty Boop type routine, but they put it on Allison for Bollywood? Yuk!
I thought Antonio did pretty well with the routine and lift!! Did not deserve a 6, Jesse J! Boo!
Bethany and Sadie were so funny with their Derek and Mark secret things! I love those two girls!!
What a ridiculous night, some were underscored while others were overscored. I don’t think the judges were fair at all.
I’m on the West Coast so I am just beginning to watch the show but from what I read here I don’t know if it is even worth watching. CAI
should be fired and just keep Julianne. No more guest judges please.
And I am sooooo tired of Val’s shirtlessness(same goes to his brother).
Artem just creeps me out-he looks like a thug.
The judging so far is crap. I thought Bethany did well. Now I just want to see Sadie and Derek.
If this was Survivor, I would vote Carrie Ann off the island.. and as far as I’m concerned she can take Janel with her. If they were ever to go back to 1 girl at the table, Julianne can stay.
I can’t pinpoint why exactly, but I’m starting to get turned off by Lea too. Maybe it’s all the fam association. She’s talented, but starting to annoy me.
Costuming was beautiful tonight. Loved Emma’s and Chery’ls outfits.. especially Cheryl’s. That white looked great on her.
Opening number was great, well Jessie J was great and the girls, like PH said, they need to put on more clothes. I’m all for people wearing what they want but I swear they try to over-sexualize them in every routine.
I’m glad the pros called out the judges for their scores. I felt bad for Michael for the 5’s though. At least the man some 6’s… I’ve seen a lot worse with people getting better scores.
Also, was CA high tonight? because she gave Antonio and Alfonso the same score???! This makes me not take anything that woman says seriously but then again, Antonio was shirtless and it is CA…
Janel’s was to, as Len would say.. “raunchy”. They could have taken a classier approach (which i agreed with Julianne)
Speaking of Len, I asked Courtney this on twitter earlier, if he’s missing 4/6 shows, why doesn’t he just retire from the American version of the show and stick with SCD in the UK?
Off the top of my head:
l loved Bethany and Mark – I love Mark’s wacky, creative, side. Loved the hip hop dance, last week’s duck-themed dance, and his Wizard dance from many seasons ago. I dug it.
Also Alfonso and Cheryl. I really enjoyed seeing the other side Cheryl could give him and I thought it deserved better scores.
Poor Tommy got hosed with the slow song. I was so into the theme and the song and couldn’t figure out why there wasn’t more energy in it. Well you can’t give more energy on such a slow song.
Michael and Witney – I agree. I love him but it’s week 5 and he needs to do more than be my sweet, funny guy. And I was a tad anxious the whole routine worrying that Witney’s lower bottom cheeks were going to be exposed more than they were. :0
Janel and Artem: Trashy. Julianne and CAI made a great point that there was no cheekiness to it, it was straight up strip club.
I liked Lea more in this dance than any with Artem (except for the contemporary) but in the end, Bethany, Sadie and Alfonso were my favorites.
I thought Jessie J did a great job and had guts giving low scores when that’s how she felt.
Favorites in order:
1. Sadie & Derek – fun, rhythmically on point, youthful, energetic and entertaining. I loved it!
2. Bethany & Mark – his choreo was great for her and almost like something Derek would do.
3. Alfonso & Cheryl – Wow, he pulled it off. I got the feeling he likes Whitney better though.
4. Lea & Val – thought she did a really good job, despite persistent rounded shoulders, but didn’t enjoy the “old folks with walkers” troupe. I didn’t think it added anything to her performance.
5. Janel & Artem – lots of sleaze but they missed the boat on a true Burlesque. Glad Julianne called them out on it. I’m kind of tired of Janel already.
6. Tommy & Emma – Love Emma, but the performance fell flat for me.
7. Michael & Witney – Poor Michael, I just don’t think there is any hope for him as a dancer; he is so wooden, despite a really cute routine by Witney.
8. Jonathan & Peta – I wanted him to do well, but there were too many lifts that he couldn’t handle.
9. Antonio & Allison- That Bollywood was a hot mess, and Alison over danced him again. She needs to tone herself down.
I thought the judging panel (with the exception of Jessie J. who gave some refreshing and fun commentary and was also a really good singer and performer, IMO) was a bit frenetic over all and it made me miss the stabilizing presence of Len. I keep feeling 4 judges are just way too much. I feel bad for when there is no time for a 4 th judge to give their critique. CAI was whacky with her scoring. Julianne ( who I thought looked absolutely stunning) gave some good comments but was negatively picky especially with Lea. Poor Bruno looked liked he was missing Len because its no fun to be overexcited unless you have balancing opposite.
I’m glad the switch-up is over. I think Michael might go home next week.
Well I feel that Bethany/Mark deserved at least two 9’s given the dance mess that was Lea/Val. I did not feel that Lea did well at all and that she was off time. Mark/Beth were way more in sync and Beth brought the attack and personality tonight. Beth really loosened up. Loved Mark’s choreography. I was not a lover of the Flamenco for Alfonso – I felt it was more Tango than Flamenco (IMO). Derek/Sadie did great even though I feel like her long arms and legs flail sometimes instead of being real crisp, but Derek as always did a great job on the choreography.
Ugh! It seems that the judges have pms tonight. They didn’t seem to like the choreo or the dancing for most of the night. Mostly negative. I really don’t like Jesse J as a judge. Jonathan got hosed!
Maybe DWTS shouldn’t have picked weird and difficult dance styles for the switch up. Okay, it’s not just me because the Pros and Hosts are saying the judges are unfairly harsh too! It did not make an enjoyable viewing for me at home.
Emma said it best the judges were being mean this week and Peta can’t catch a break during switch this is now 2/2 making peta cry during the switch up the dance wasn’t bad just a few mishaps yes I was cringing at times but it’s because I didn’t want her to hurt her back any further than she did during her Argentine tango. I think almost everyone was underscored no one deserved any lower than a 6 and Jonathan and Peta deserved at least 7’s
Mixed feelings about tonight episode/switch up. I wanted to try an have fun with the switch up but of course there had to be way too much drama. whish the pro’s weren’t so hard on themselves. Felt bad for Whitney, Peta.
Not a fan of all these guest judges. Get 3-4 permanent judges and replace CAI please. As for the overall scoring, I’m fine with the low scoring(I’ve always thought 10’s in week 3 is ridiculous), but not randomly 5 weeks into the competition! Start giving 5’s week one then build up.
Also, why give non ballroom dances when they already have a lot to worry about with the switch up? I’m mean Disco and Burlesque? SHM I wish they’d just stick to the 10 ballroom dances and maybe a couple of other common styles. This is getting to be way too much!!! Also Pitbull week? SMH again…
I like Sadie, Alfonso, Lea and Bethany’s routines best.
Overall I think they should just get rid of the switch up. Even if I like the challenge of it and it is supposed to be fun, it seems there are too many hurt feelings.
(Sorry if this post seems like me rambling I’m mad and kinda over this show at this point)
Well I’ve watched the show again including the judges comments and then watched only the dances a third time. So here is my ranking:
Sadie/Derek, Bethany/Mark, Alfonso/Cheryl, Lea/Val.
Sadie is just a natural and really enjoys the process and what can I say Derek always is a joy to watch, just something so special in the way he moves. Bethany really gave it her all and of course Mark is so creative. (I watched a fourth time actually). The Flamenco is very difficult to do for a male celeb even with all of Alfonso’s experience and I thought he did pretty well. Cheryl is so good and gives that great attitude face! I don’t get Lea entirely I’m a little unsure about her personality. Sometimes she doesn’t seem genuine and her posture is distracting but I love her commitment. I really think Val is a wonderful dancer I just fast forward the packages so I don’t have to hear him speak or watch the acting or whatever it is.
The scoring and the judges comments is and has always been over the top and strange. The rest of the dances were a little hard to watch I felt bad for the couples. Please let the pros choose the music to fit the dance they are given! Weird night but thanks to all the mods for your hard work.
Is this Week One all over again? Everyone is not in their A-game this week. I don’t know if it is just because of the switch up or the non-ballroom dances. I liked Jessie J as a guest judge. She is honest and it reminds me of Strictly. Since Len is not around, CIA should go out next. Haha
FYI: Tristan and his partner was the second couple eliminated in this season’s SCD. This made me so sad 🙁
Back to this week’s dance. This is my ranking for tonight.
1. Sadie and Derek – Derek did an amazing choreography and they danced the Charleston really well. They are a cute couple. They deserve 10s for that dance.
2. Bethany and Mark – The dance is really good. The concept is great and she has the hiphop groove/swag. I liked it even though it is not the hard hitting hiphop or krumping. It is more of a lyrical hiphop. They deserve 9s for it.
3. Alfonso and Cheryl – Liked the Flamenco not as much as Derek and Kelly but it is one of the best of the night. They also deserve 9s.
4. Lea and Val – I really enjoyed the dance and like the concept but it is more jazz while the “America” routine with Janel is more broadway. The steps are repetitive and simple. I thought the addition of the troop makes it good. If the troop is not there, it would be awful. Overscored!
5. Tommy and Emma – I think the song is not appropriate for a mambo. He needs a lot more energy in the routine but still he did good.
6. Janel and Artem – That is not a burlesque. This is not the finale to do a super-sized freestye. It is raunchy and hootchy. I thought she will bring a stripper pole in the dance. It is full of pimping and basic choreography. We know she can dance so AMP UP THE DIFFICULTY. Definitely Overscored.
7. Jonathan and Peta – I felt the pressure in Jonathan. The dance is really difficult. I cringe the whole performance. It is not the worst but i thought they will give 7s. I wish Jonathan would not be eliminated.
8. Antonio and Allison – The song is awful. Allison overdanced it. She overshadowed Antonio. It is so unsynchronized but I accept the fact that Bollywood is really fast and it is hard to execute. I wish Allison will reconsider her choreography a bit.
9. Michael and Witney – Witney did a great disco routine. I can see that it would possibly be the best dance of the night if she had another partner. The problem is Michael, without a doubt. Michael cannot dance and needs to go next. I felt bad for Witney. She deserved 9s or 10s for her choreography. He really deserved the 5s.
I finally understand what’s been bothering me about Sadie’s dancing,I’m not trying to be mean but I feel like her legs lack any grace, maybe it’s because of the choreography but she often reminds me of Olive Oyl in the way her legs look. Her feet were so flat she should’ve had at least a little bit of heel.
Meg, she does have very long limbs like Zendaya. She is taller than Derek I think so maybe that is why she was in flats. But imo Sadie keeps her legs pretty under control and it is a challenge for her to be clean and crisp with her being tall. But her attack and commitment and joy overshadows all of it for me. Sum greater than the parts!
My comments on the night:
Antonio and Alison–The Bollywood didn’t do much for me. Kind of blah like most of Antonio’s dances. At least Cheryl gets him to try harder.
Bethany and Mark–The hip hop routine was cute and I liked the mix of ballroom and hip hop. Mark pulled off yet another brilliant dance.
Jonathan and Peta–the Jitterbug was cute but again Jonathan is one of those dancers who doesn’t wow me. I was hoping for a little more this week with Peta. Didn’t happen. ALthough I think 6’s was a little harsh.
Alfonso and Cheryl–That Flamenco was awesome and did deserve higher scores. I think the judges were being mean and a little conservative tonight overall because the celebs were not with their regular partners.
Janel and Artem–While I like Janel, I am not a fan of this style. I think this dance style should not have been allowed on a family show. I think she did a relatively good job trying to deal with the style though. Not her best dance. She does better with Val than Artem.
Micheal and Witney–that was horrible. While it was fun to watch I actually agree with the judges that week five is not about the entertainment. He was way off on steps and that did not look like disco to me. I think he will be the one to go unless NASCAR Nation (I am a NASCAR Fan, but don’t vote for him) steps up to keep him here.
Tommy and Emma–This mambo was again, Fun but fun is not enough this late in the competition. One thing I must say about Tommy is that unlike Michael, he practices the steps and at least gives it his best shot. He may not nail it all the time but for an old guy he is pretty good. He needs to do more ballroom.
Sadie and Derek–While I am not a fan of Derek there is no denying he is a good choreographer and last night proved it. That Charleston was great, one of the best dances of the night (yes I just admitted that). It deserved to get at least one 10 but nothing we can do about that. Good to see her on top of the leaderboard.
Val and Lea–that dance was very cute. Loved the theme and concept. I think it was scored properly. If Val did not have Janel as a partner, I think this would have been a great partnership too.
The judges were just very mean all around today. I mean really. The celebs had one week to work with a totally different partner and did the best they could. For the most part, I think they did a good job adapting. Except for Michael who just does not seem to be trying.
Predictions for elimination next week, one of the guys except Alfonso. Most likely Michael or Jonathan. Alfonso, Sadie, Janel and Lea are definitely safe in my opinion but then it’s anyone’s guess.
@Meg
I thought the same thing when I saw Sadie dance the Charleston. I still thought she did great and I really liked the dance but I see what you mean. She lacks a bit of control and refinement with those beautiful long limbs. But it makes sense, I thought watching her last night that she is dancing like a her sweet, innocent, goofy self with no dance experience and from a rural town. But she’s still better than some other celebs and I would hope to see her in the finals. She’s adorable.
This is being posted Tuesday morning.
IMO, the best dance was Sadie and Derek’s, and Michael/Witney did bring up the bottom. However, both their scores and the scores in between were just haphazard all night.
My favorite takeaway of the night – Michael catching Witney, both hands, by the butt to keep her from falling (he thought), and then getting all apologetic and red-faced about it.
Least favorite were way too many to count.
The troupe is getting a lot more work by being integrated as fillers in more contest routines than I can ever remember in seasons past, plus their normal “commercial” dances and the production numbers. It was nice of Val to specifically mention them by name for what they were doing.
Overall, not the best night.
One final comment about the judges. I hate to say this but I miss Len. At least he knows what he is talking about. CAI has issues lately and this guest judging. GAH. If Len isn’t there, why not just have 3? Do we really need 4 judges, I thought that’s why Julianne was brought in this season. And if you have guest judges why not bring in Louie, Anna, Dmitry or another pro dance who is no longer on the show. At least they know how to judge dancing.
Oh em GEE! Derek choreographed a KILLER Charleston for Sadie and she danced it pretty well BUT I agree, her arms are a bit out of control at times :/ Shoulda gotten a 9.5. Maybe they ought to bring back those half points? Best dance of the night! LOVED Alfonso’s Flamenco! Also thought Bethany and Mark did a killer hip-hop! I agree, Beth could’ve hit some of the moves harder but she did pretty good.
And where’s LEN!! Please Rob Wade, get Len back ASAP!
Well, overall it was a beautiful mess. Jessy J was a good guest judge. I’m not bothered by the low score nor so shocked by the judges comments, but it should have been said weeks before. Now it comes off weirdly. They overscored everyone way too early. What is going on with CAI? Giving 8s to Alfonso, Antonio and Bethany is ridiculous. She shouldn’t have overscored him first hand if she wasn’t feeling like giving 9s or 10s for better performances.
I was pleasantly surprised by Alfonso/Cheryl, it was a good partnership and the flamenco was beautiful to look at.
Bethany and Mark had a very good routine and the package was very funny. I really liked it and they were definitely hosed by the scores.
Well Sadie and Derek were as good as expected and put a big smile on my face (though not really convinced with the beginning of the song), loved the package too. I wondered if Bethany/Mark, Sadie/Derek wouldn’t have been a more suited choice for the long run.
Jonathan and Peta was really entertaining. Except one part where I was worried he would drop her, I didn’t find it uncomfortable at all and he certainly didn’t deserved 6s.
The end of Lea’s package made me a bit uncomfortable I must admit. Considering the amazing music, I was expecting much more, perhaps because I have the dance of hairspray in my mind every time the song starts. The choreography was a tad too slow for my liking. America felt far more Broadway than this song. I wish the whole dance had been more like the ending.
Antonio was not as messy as expected and I quite liked his partnership with Allison, but she really needs to stop overdancing as it hurts her partners.
No surprises with Michael and Tommy, kudos to Emma and Witney for their work.
I was cringing when I saw Janel and found myself looking at Sharna. I expected that, but I’m a bit upset they didn’t respect what burlesque is really about, teasing and being comfortable with who you are. This dance style shouldn’t have been given at all because it’s not a style that suits men and really Artem had no business being in the routine. I agree that the first part with only the girls was better than the rest. If they decided to give burlesque to someone, they should have at least allowed the switch up to be mixed and given the dance styles accordingly. I would have much preferred to see Janel switched with Witney for the routine and Alfonso and Derek doing a tap routine for example instead of that.
Last season, the switch up worked. This season? It definitely didn’t. Some of the pairs were successful, I think, but on a whole…. No.
In my opinion, the only successful change for the men was Alfonso and Cheryl. And as good as their flamenco was, I like his partnership with Witney much better. He just seems to be more at ease with her. The other guys? Lots of charm, lots of heart, not much dancing. While watching with my husband, we said pretty similar things as the judges. Antonio didn’t seem to really move his feet. Jonathan moved better, but still not that well. And, he put way too much stress on himself to do as good as possible, instead of trying to enjoy the whole process that the show. The more they stress about “having” to do well, the more errors they have, because their minds work harder than it needs to. Michael looked like he was scared, and like he may have forgotten a large part of the routine, and was simply following Witney. And Tommy? Well, he did a mambo, but I didn’t enjoy it.
The ladies did better as a whole than the men last night, but still, I don’t think any of the new pairs improved over previous weeks. Janel/Artem/Lea/Val was just…. strange in their packages which to me, seemed to focus more on “let’s make my partner jealous” on all sides, and I don’t think it was a storyline that was needed. Both of the women do better with their original partner. Lea danced well, but I don’t think Val gave her as much difficulty as she can handle. As for Bethany/Mark/Sadie/Derek….. Again, it seems like they were on a mission to make their partners jealous, and again, I don’t think it was a storyline that was needed. Why did the producers push that on all 4 of these couples???? But at least the B/M/S/D pairings were all innocent fun to “make their partner jealous”…. Bethany and Mark just left me with questions, even though she seemed to dance okay, and Sadie and Derek, I think, would have looked better if the song was an actual Charleston song, because the choreography didn’t seem to match the song and style as well as Derek normally makes illfitting song/dance styles jel.
And yes, the judges were tough, but I do think they were correct. And if I was scoring, I wouldn’t have given anyone anything over an 8. Possibly Alfonso would earn a 9, but a “closer to 8.5 than a full 9”
@Meg OMG! I thought of the exact same thing! Sadie looks like Olive Oyl! Too tall and awkward looking at times. I was thinking she & Mark might as well use that song from that Robin Williams movie while he’s Popeye and she’s Olive. LOL
Thank you PH for moderating the three ring circus last night and have safe travel this week.
I don’t mind the judges giving low scores when it’s warranted, however the two things (among many) that they screwed up last night was choosing now to drop the hammer on some couples and stupidly underscoring others.
Is week five the time when they’ve got put on their big boy judging pants and give harsh critiques? Cause I’m not buying it. I thought Michael danced better last night than he ever has. Admittedly he’s still not a great dancer but he is slowly improving.
And Tommy was screwed by a slow unfortunate song choice that the judges acknowledged but still scored him down for.
And poor Jonathon. He’s trying so hard. He danced a very lift heavy, fast, high content dance that while it had it’s problems did not deserve to slammed. I just want to give the poor guy a hug and a latte.
I have no freaking clue why they’re underscoring Alfonso and Sadie. Nada. If their goal in underscoring some couples week after week is to look like clueless idiots then they’re succeeding admirably.
I did like Val much better with Lea than with Janel. To bad that partnership can’t remain.
Note to Rob Wade…
Let’s not do this partner switch week ever again. It’s just not working… And honestly the first week this season that I was flipping channels and watching some of The Voice.
Power Rankings are up: https://www.puredwts.com/2014/10/14/puredwts-season-19-week-5-power-rankings/
The top dances this week are without a doubt Sadie/Derek, Bethany/Mark and Alfonso/Cheryl. Personally I liked Sadie’s dance the best. I could feel the energy – something I felt lacking for everyone else – and she handled the choreography well. I think Beth’s routine could have been a little harder but Mark came up with great choreography as usual and I think it suited Bethany perfectly. Cool hairdo, by the way. Alfonso can pull off anything you throw at him and that performance was sharp and clean.
I feel really bad for Jonathan. He’s really fun to watch and I think if he had a more experienced pro he might be better than he is now. The jitterbug wasn’t fantastic but I thought it was still better than his cha-cha and samba. Could’ve have been a tad bit higher. I like Lea and she dances well, but I think Val could’ve given her a more difficult routine. Yeah, this was nice and sweet but energy-wise I think it wasn’t on par with the song.
I’m still pretty neutral over the whole to cancel or not to cancel the switch-up thing. It’s worked both ways.
Well, Derek is two inches taller than Mark, so I don’t think Sadie being taller than Derek was the issue. She was in flats because she was doing Charleston and I think for the Charleston foot movements you have to be in flats. I can’t imagine doing that choreography in heels.
Her limbs are just so long, and she’s so young, that I think it’s a miracle how well she dances. She could come off much more coltish or gangly, yet she doesn’t.
The best for me were Lea/Val and Janel/Artem for the ladies (I will agree with some of those who thought that Sadie looks a little gangly in her dances). For the men Alfonso is the ONLY one who can hold his own with any of the women (and surpass them).
Bethany is lucky that the four other men are so terrible because she was out of sync with Mark for huge chunks of their hip-hop. And since she was ahead of the beat that probably means she was wast going through the motions instead of trying to settle into the groice or pocket of the song (and this isn’t a hard-hitting song so she couldn’t overcompensate she needed to hit that pocket).
I don’t like Waltrip’s personality (he really put me off in his samba package from like week 2). And Antonio and Jonathan are just so stiff with everything (though this was half a blessing for Allison since Jonathan was just as stiff with a much better choreographer). I am forgetting a guy I think but that probably is a reflection on how they did.
This episode was boring the only couple that should have gotten all 9s is Alfonso and cheryl…the rest was not good at all.
