Janel Parrish Gives Sneak Peek Into Tonight’s Dances On Dancing With The Stars
Janel Parrish has written a new blog at TV Guide. Below is what she wrote on their two new dances for tonight on Dancing With The Stars.
This week we have two full dances, which has definitely been a challenge. Val and I have the quickstep, which was America’s choice. They got to choose everything we’re doing – the costumes, the end, how it begins. They voted that they wanted Val to bring the beard back, so he’s bringing back the beard! And they voted on our song, so we’re dancing to “Hey Boy, Hey Girl.”
I’m so happy with all their choices. It’s going to be really cute. At first, I was really worried about the quickstep, but now that we’ve started working on it, I think it’s going to be really fun. I can tell that my ballroom hold has gotten a little better since we started, so I’m a little less stressed out about it than I thought I was going to be at first.
The second dance is a trio, and we’re doing that with Keo Motsepe, so we’re calling it our “trio with Keo” and it’s going to be a salsa. We all have a trio and it’s up to us to decide how we go about that. We’ve decided on a really sexy kind of tribal salsa dance. It’s going to be really cool.
The quickstep is going to be really cute and fun and playful, so I’m looking forward to that since we haven’t had that in many dances, and the salsa’s going to be raw and sexy and kind of animalistic, and I’m looking forward to that as well.
More at TV Guide with her thoughts on last week’s dances and more.
I have watch DWTS for years and I never seen them promote a SHOWMANCE like they’ve this season. Also I’m a Val older fan but with all this mess! I couldn’t support him so I have been spitting my votes between the two youngest ladies. In other words good luck to these ladies.
It is a shame that the producers can’t let this show just play out however it is going to go instead of manipulating everything. Everyone watching chooses their favorite and votes for them. Why shove something down someone’s throat to make it go your way? I also don’t understand why anyone would want a “hollow victory” and not want to know they won it because the fans loved what they were doing and that they had done their best? Such a shame that there are no morals or work ethic anymore. It is very depressing. 🙁
When Janel/Val won immunity, it was obvious these two are favored to be in the finals. They turn my stomach! As much as I love DWTS, this is hard to watch. High scores when they don’t deserve them, etc., etc. Too much for me!
Looking forward to seeing Keo tonight – IMO, he’s such a special performer.
I am mostly amused by couple showmancing and find both it and the fan shipping quite entertaining. Both happen every.single.season – the only things that change are the couples’ names and the fan bases promoting the showmances and shipping.
Can’t wait to see the Salsa tonight. Janel is really a fearless competitor so I think we’re going to see some daring tricks, and that is exciting because some of the Salsas have been a let down in terms of lifts and tricks this season. I think it is precious that some think Tribal salsa dancing was invented by Mark and Derek when it’s been on the dance seen for years. Keo is going to bring some excellent movement for this piece. I also think Jamel did well in her Foxtrot that got the encore, as CA and Brino said it was almost “perfect” and will build on that for the Quickstep.
Ooo They might be in trouble with Len. The last tribal number that wasn’t Jazz, that I remember, got Len’s knickers in a twist and that was Derek, Mark and Shawn’s samba which till date is one of my favorite numbers on DWTS.
That said, it might be entertaining. Also, being African, I generally enjoy dances that they tend to designate as “tribal” dances because they seem to use it as a catch-all term for dances with lots of percussion and a certain freedom in the movement which reminds me of home even though I generally don’t like the term “tribal” itself.
Anyways, if they can keep a ton of salsa in there and score well (which tptb seem to be going for) then they might be OK ‘coz I don’t know how much votes they’re getting and I feel like fan bases are sort of established at the point or at least somewhat so scoring low with the judges when you’re not Sadie, Beth or Alphonso who I think have quite a large fan base, could send you packing, I think.
#W9129, Mark and Derek did a Samba with Shawn.
Except for last season, Doris.
There is a difference between a “showmance” and “shipping”, Deena. A huge difference, actually.
I actually think there are quite a few seasons that had no visible showmance. Season 17 had the very minor (as in nearly invisible) showmance of Brant/Peta. Season 16 had NO showmance. Season 14 – I think they tried to push a Maria/Derek showmance, but Derek and Maria made it into a pretend showmance (isn’t that a double negative?). A pretend, pretend romance – so OTT no one believed it. “Hey, let’s kiss” :::wink, wink::: Season 13 – Val’s first season – I think he and Elisabetta could have been a showmance if they had lasted longer. Seems like they were flirty. But no other showmance that season. There were a couple instances of potential showmance in season 12, but the couples involved seemed like they didn’t really go along with the producer wishes. That’s how it seemed anyway. Mark/Chelsea, Chelsie/Romeo. Kirstie/Maks were kinda like a Maria/Derek showmance – so OTT and cheesey that everyone knew it was just pretend and for fun. Season 11 – no showmance. Season 10 – Erin/Maks….sensing a theme. Most of the showmances seem to come from the C-bros camp. Season 9 – no real showmance, although I always had the impression that Derek had a thing for Joanna. Season 8 – no showmance. Season 7 – Derek/Shannon, except that turned out to be a REAL relationship for more than a year.
Ah…the good ole days. Back then, even Derek/Shannon weren’t pushed/pimped/promoted like Meryl and Janel. Not even close. In fact, the judges were downright mean to Shannon. Ah well, all good things come to an end. I just hope maybe next season we can avoid the showmance.
Who said that Derek invented it, W9129, besides YOU?? Talk about precious. Derek is the first one to bring it to DWTS, however.
It’s easy to be a “fearless” competitor when the producers help you avoid the dances which have strict hold requirements.
There is a big difference between “tribal samba” and “tribal salsa.” The samba is African in origin, so “tribal samba” makes some kind of sense (of course maybe not to Len, but remember he’s “a cup of tea in a sea of lattes”). Salsa dancing began in New York City in the 1970’s. I lived in New York City in the 1970’s. Sure it was a little rough around the edges, but tribal? I don’t think so.
I have no idea why TPTB are doing what they are doing now after last year massive pimping of MnM…I don’t mind that they won the MBT, I just hate all the pimping and showmance. Same with this season, if Janel win she should win it fair and square. But for now I’ve been seeing what I saw last season, a repeat! Very disappointing. TPTB can twist and manipulate the show whatever they want. What I like about this season though is that some of the celebs are close with each other. I love seeing Alfonso and his wife movie night when he invited Sadie, Bethany, Whitney and other people to his house. Last season was all about Meryl and the c-bros Fam.
Oh and one last thing. I hope I don’t hear a double standard comments from Carrie Ann because she tends to see a “mistake” from some couple and totally ignore the same from certain couple. Her blog the next day doesn’t even make sense at times.
Why does everything with them have to be about the sexy all the time? Why can’t they just dance professionally, beautifully, artistically??? Every time one of them talks about their routines, the word sexy is used ad nauseum. Can they even describe dancing without using the word? I’m not sure they can. I’ve watched ballroom competitions on PBS for years, and with the exception of some of the Latin dances where it is appropriate, I don’t get the sexy crammed down my throat the way I do with these two. The “almost kisses”, to the dry humping and pelvic thrusts are not turn-on’s, they just annoy the heck out of me. Val’s a good dancer and I’m sorry to see that he’s sunk so low.
