(New York, NY) December, 2014 — Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) will honor women’s rights champion Gloria Steinem, Olympic Gold Medalist Evan Lysacek, and Feld Entertainment’s Nicole, Alana, and Juliette Feld at its 10th Annual Skating with the Stars Gala. The benefit event will move from the ice to the dance floor this year and be held at 583 Park Avenue on Monday, April 13, 2015, at 6:00pm. The evening will celebrate Figure Skating in Harlem’s one-of-a-kind education, health, and fitness programs for underserved girls while offering guests the rare opportunity to dance and mingle with some of the country’s great Olympic figure skaters including Sasha Cohen, Gracie Gold, Scott Hamilton, Michelle Kwan, and Kristi Yamaguchi. As a special treat, guests will enjoy performances by Dancing with the Stars’ Mirror Ball Champions Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Andy Cohen, Jessye Norman, Alicia Quarles, and Tamara Tunie (FSH Chair Emerita) will serve as this year’s Honorary Chairs; Celia Chou, Tracie and Scott Hamilton, Ellen Lowey, Tina and Terry Lundgren, Diana Taylor, and Vera Wang are among the Event Chairs.

“This unique evening brings together New Yorkers who believe in the importance of empowering girls to become strong leaders through a combination of sports, arts, and education. Honoring a trailblazer like Gloria Steinem is a perfect fit. She is known for her work with prominent African-American women who together knocked down barriers and opened doors for generations of girls like ours to reach their full potential,” said Sharon Cohen, Founder of Figure Skating in Harlem and a 2014 CNN Hero.

Now in its 18th year, Figure Skating in Harlem remains the first and only organization in the country that combines the power of education with the grace and discipline of figure skating to transform the lives of underserved girls. Through its unique programming, FSH provides NYC girls with innovative skating and education programs that promote academic success, physical health, and emotional well-being. Recent graduates of the program have gone on to Brown University, Howard University, Boston College, and others. The proceeds from this year’s gala will help launch a new STEM program and implement a plan for expansion beyond New York. FSH envisions taking its model program national by its 20th anniversary.

Sponsors of the Skating with the Stars Gala include Amway, Estee Lauder, Macy’s and Bloomingdales, and Consolidated Edison, among others. Tickets to the gala, which include cocktails, dinner, and dancing, start at $1,250. Sponsorship packages start at $5,000.
