The Dancing Poetry Corner – For The Love Of Latin

I got an idea in the shower this morning to do my poem/writing this week without rhyming. But, it will be expressive in another way. The theme of red-hot, fire, etc will populate the writing. We had our fires, our passions stoked:

For The Love of Latin

The opening was a red-hot explosion
Dripping with the flames of passion
A’blaze with fires kindling in our souls

Dancers’ feet, as if steeping on hot coals
Electricity crescendoing in the Ballroom
Latin flavor oozing out of every pore

Latin dances typically ooze sensuality
The dynamic of love as a fiery furnace
Lifts expressing strength of lovers’ union

Our hearts filled with the spirit of dance
Each dance unique bursting with spirit
Fanning flames of power of creativity Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 20, Week FOUR – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Grab ya kleenex and get ready for “Most Memorable Year” Week. :::sigh::: Anyone else remember the good old days when every single week didn’t have to have a theme?? I do.

Anyway, Vogue has been a workin’ fiend as per usual and the info we have so far on the dances comes from her Massive Media Roundup post….or in Sharna’s case, her blog. Mark and Willow’s dance is from something he said on Afterbuzz, which Vogue will put up as soon as she gets it.

And hey – at least they’re not all Rumbas.

ETA: Apparently it’s okay if someone other than us spoils the songs. Really ABC – Just Jared is a better option? Funny how no one cared about the songs until we started spoiling them a few seasons ago. Humph. Michael’s song already feels heart wrenching. Nastia’s song is so perfect for an AT that I wonder if it was her idea. I wonder about Chris’ also.

ETA2: Finally got Suzanne’s and Riker’s dances nailed down. According to Courtney, they could have gone several ways with those particular songs.

Nastia and Derek – Argentine Tango (Song: “Variations on Dark Eyes” by Lara St. John)

Dancing 1st

Rumer and Val – Waltz (Song: “Turning Tables” by Adele)
1-855-234-5610

Patti and Artem – Jazz (Song: “Dan Swit Me” by Patti LaBelle)
1-855-234-5606

Willow and Mark – Contemporary (Song: “Atlas” by Coldplay)
1-855-234-5612

Chris and Witney – Rumba (Song: “The Book of Love” by Gavin James)
1-855-234-5602

Michael and Peta – Rumba (Song: “Not My Father’s Son” from “Kinky Boots”)
1-855-234-5603

Noah and Sharna – Contemporary (Song: “American Soldier” by Toby Keith)
1-855-234-5605

Robert and Kym – Waltz (Song: “The Last Waltz” by Engelbert Humperdinck)
1-855-234-5609

Riker and Allison – Tango (Song: “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk The Moon)
1-855-234-5608

Suzanne and Tony – Foxtrot (Song: “Three’s Company Theme” by Dominik Hauser)

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Sharna Burgess Is So Proud Of Noah Galloway – New Blog For DWTS Season 20 Week 3

Sharna Burgess has posted her new blog at Closer Weekly. She runs through the challenging week putting together her and Noah’s Argentine Tango. She also gives us a glimpse of what might be coming for next week’s dance. More below and be sure you read the full blog at the link as she posted some fun “behind the scenes” pictures as well.

I could not be more proud of Noah. He is improving every week and that is key in this competition. We of course have a lot of work to do on his movement if we want to stay in, but just wow! He inspires me every day with how much he wants this. He can be very hard on himself, as he is a perfectionist and can become super frustrated if things don’t go as well as they have before. In truth, last night wasn’t our best run and Carrie Ann was right in what she said. We need that constructive criticism from the judges because it reinforces to Noah the things I teach him. It wasn’t until Noah watched it back a second time that he saw the beauty in what he had done last night.

Moving forward, this [week’s dance theme] is ‘Most Memorable Year’ and you already know that this is usually a very emotional week for most couples. Noah’s story deserves greatness, something epic and worthy of him and what his been through. It is Tuesday and I haven’t yet found what that is. I can feel I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself this week, which is more than I think I have in a long time. I want it to be perfect, to blow everyone away and to have our viewers be taken on a journey with us. Telling his story is important and I have to stop myself from getting emotional while trying to create. It ain’t easy! We have [to perform a] contemporary [dance] this week and, if you don’t already know, it is one of my faves! 🙂 Our song is just amazing! It is beyond perfect for Noah and what we are trying to achieve. I can’t wait for you all to see the finished product.

Lastly my loves, I want to thank you soooooo much for the incredible support for #TeamShway! Without you guys we wouldn’t still be here. All the love you shout out to us is seen on social media and it gives the both of us so much joy to know all of Noah’s hard work is paying off. We will keep working out butts off and hopefully… we can take #TeamShway all the way! 🙂

The Carrie Ann Inaba and Julianne Hough DWTS Season 20 Week 3 Blog Wrap Up

Below is Lori with Carrie Ann Inaba and Julianne Hough’s new blogs!! She is life saver and helping me with Blogs on Media Tuesday and I’m liking the way she’s combining them! What do you think? And Lori, I loved Julianne’s lip stick too! THANKS for all of your help!! ~ Vogue

I’m trying something new, and putting both of our female judges in one place. Let me know if you like it this way, or would prefer to have them separate.

Carrie Ann’s weekly blog post is up at Parade, and it was obvious to me that she reads the comments that people have about her judging.

On a personal note, last night was challenging for me personally. It is never easy to give constructive criticism to people you look up to and respect. However, that is what we are there to do, it is our job to judge and I believe it is my job to help each contestant to be their personal best. I offer advice that I hope will help them have a better chance at winning in the long run. After being a judge on the show for every single episode for 20 seasons, I know what the audience likes to see, and I know what we as judges like to see. I may have upset a few people, which I never want to do, but it comes with the territory of being a judge.

Last night, I enjoyed Suzanne Somers and Tony Dovolani’s samba. It was a delight to watch and was sheer entertainment. They could have gone straight to Vegas and sold out! But after three weeks of very colorful, light and almost campy (in a good way) routines, I would like to see more depth to her performance. Suzanne is an icon. She is a very strong woman. She’s in great shape and she looks terrific, but I feel there’s more to her. I’d like to see her do something that expresses her passion, her grace and elegance and shows us a new dimension. I didn’t deduct points because she hasn’t shown us that yet, but I was offering advice for the future. I upset Tony — which if you have read any of my blog posts or know me at all, you would know is NOT my intention. I have nothing but respect for these incredible professionals on our show. No one works harder on television than our pros, working as choreographers, therapists, friends, trainers and guides throughout this journey for their celebrity partners, and I have nothing but respect for their passion, dedication and excellence. But I worry that if Suzanne keeps doing light performances, she will get lost in the crowd. I’d like to see a bit of drama in her performance, a bit of passion, and a bit more depth. So, I’m looking forward to next week to see what they put together for us. And remember, I’m rooting for everyone out there to do his or her best!

I like parts of this, and do agree, but other parts was Carrie Ann definitely doing some CYA Fluff. Check out the link above to read the whole blog!

And Julianne has her weekly blog is up on People, I LOVE the color of her lipstick!

Here's Carrie Ann, Julianne and Bruno. Where's Len?

Suzanne Somers Writes On Dancing With The Stars Week 3

Suzanne Somers almost got a banana stuck where on Tony? LOL! She is a hoot.

I loved my Carmen Miranda-style costume. What girl wouldn’t want to wear it? Tony designed it for movement. I thought it was fantastic. The hat was heavy, but I was most worried being thrown through Tony’s legs that I’d get a banana in his crotch.

Competitions are fierce. I had that dance nailed, performed perfectly in rehearsal, but all that counts is performance, and I did miss a step. I actually appreciate the judges’ comments. Compliments are hard won, and I don’t need any special coddling.

I feel very proud that I’m out there on that dance floor. My objective is to do my best each week, and I look forward to next week for another shot. We have a big surprise for next week. Really fun!

Be sure to read her blog in full at People. There is a lot of exciting things happening in her life.

PureDWTS Season 20, Week 3 – Power Rankings

Well, the warm fuzzies and pleasant surprises I had from the judging last week have left the building – and now we’ve moved on to the “completely inappropriate and actually rather offensive” stage of the competition, where every other thing out of the judges’ mouths seems to be insulting, irrelevant, or just plain mean.  Even after last week’s spiel about bullying, Charlotte got told she was stupid, and it was implied that Riker danced like a girl and Allison danced like a dude.  Oh, and Mike got nitpicked to death for the third week in a row.  “Do as I say, not as I do”, huh judges?

Bittersweet seeing Charlotte go.  I was glad she got to stick around for another week, and aside from the fact that her rumba didn’t have a whole lot of rumba, I still enjoyed it and thought it was her best dance yet; but I think Charlotte may have mentally checked out a bit after the nasty critiques she got in week 1, so it was probably time for her to go, anyway.  If nothing else, she looked FANTASTIC tonight – loved that color on her, and love big, tousled Brigette Bardot-inspired hair 🙂

1.) Riker & Allison – Well, I already thought Riker was a contender after week 1 – but I think this week his real debut, because that salsa screamed “Yep, I’m here, and I’m hungry – take heed, Nastia & Rumer!” And despite Len hemming and hawing and trying to claim that Riker “isn’t the best dancer this season”, I daresay he’s certainly the best male contestant, and bested at least Nastia in terms of technique this week – so he’s quickly inching his way up to the top.  He never missed a beat in this salsa, which was actually the first piece of choreography I’ve seen from Allison on this  show that made me sit up and go “Ok, that was cool.”  And good lord, that girl can spin fast!  He sold it well, he made it his, and he kept time – if I had one complaint, it might be that he seemed a bit stiff in his hips and didn’t “flow” through the movements as fluidly as he could have, but I also partially blame Allison for that, simply because her choreography was a bit more staccato.  Overall, he nailed it, though.
