PureDWTS Season 20, Week 5 – Power Rankings

First off, an apology: these are late, but I do (sort of) have good reason: I needed time to cool off after last night’s show (more on that later) and I actually got caught up talking to Deep Throat and just got too tired to start these last night (as I usually do).  Then after my truncated sleep schedule last night (no rest for the spoilers!), I just dragged all kinds of @$$ today and didn’t get around to finishing these until just now.  So I apologize – hope this is all still relevant and you guys haven’t completely moved onto Spring Break week 😉

Overall, I enjoyed Disney night – this one felt a lot more well-prepared and planned out than the last, which felt a bit hastily thrown together.  Sorry to see Suzanne go – I do feel like she was really trying and wanted to be there, and maybe just got caught having a weak moment in rehearsal.  But if she didn’t go home this week, she certainly would either next week or during the double elim – just kinda stinks that she went out on a bit of a low note, forgetting almost half her routine.  And it started out so promising, too! Hopefully she can do it again on the finale results show 🙂 Read more..

DWTS 20 Week 5’s Weekly Blog for Julianne Hough and Carrie Ann Inaba

It’s heeeeerre! I’ve been waiting for most of the day for both Julianne and Carrie Ann to get their weekly blogs up. Julianne gets to go first today, because People put hers up this morning, and Parade didn’t get Carrie Ann’s up until Tuesday evening my time.

So, what do you think of Julianne’s look this week? Check out her People Style Blog, there’s a lot of photos this week! I LOVED her dress! It was flowy and dreamy, I thought. And I’m still not completely sold on her pink hair, but it looked really cute on Monday. And it looks like it could be a temporary color, and is beginning to fade out. It’s definitely going to make things interesting with her hair for the next week or so, if it is temporary. And, she hinted at some things that have been happening for the DWTS Anniversary.

And though Hough once told us she didn’t like to be rushed, things were busier than usual around the trailer. “The day was busy today with extra interviews for the 10 year DWTS anniversary, so we had to work quickly as a team to get this look polished,” Barnes says. “Julianne’s a delight to get ready each week because she is adventurous and experimental with her looks.”

Carrie Ann expanded about those extra interviews in her Parade Blog.

Yesterday was a blur! It was Disney night and we filmed a Dancing with the Stars 10th anniversary special that will air May 14 at 8 p.m. ET. My day on set started at 9:30 a.m. instead of my normal 11 a.m. call time.

Make sure to click the link and read her whole blog, because there is a lot! of information about things that we have been wondering about. She spent so much time in her blog talking about everything that happened before the show, that I thought she wouldn’t get around to talking about the dances. I was wrong.

The performances were incredible on Disney Night. Suzanne Somers sadly was eliminated, but I am happy for her that she went out on a high note. She was really came out and showed a new side of herself. Unfortunately, she got her heel caught in her dress, but she handled it like a pro and recovered ever so quickly. She was in the right mindset to continue in the competition but her journey was cut short. It was fun to see her vibrant energy out there every week.

It was pretty obvious that my favorite dance of the night was Riker Lynch and Allison Holker’s pasodoble. It was innovative and progressive with incredible shaping and styling. He was large and in charge and it thrilled me to no end. Congratulations Riker and Allison for really waking us all up with this incredible performance.

Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy also wowed us with a very unique performance. It was a risky choice to do a samba to that music, but it worked. I worry that their choices can be a bit too heavy at times. Rumer is a killer performer and she squeezes every ounce of excitement out of each movement and gives us maximum enjoyment. I’d like to see her do something fun at some point, like her disco/salsa in week 3.

Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough came out strong after two incredible and very artistically daring pieces. And while it was a phenomenal dance, and captured what Disney is in 90 seconds of movement bliss, I was distracted by his choice to have them lip sync some but not all of the routine. They lip-synced the dialogue, which I thought was brilliant. We immediately believed that they were the characters. But it didn’t follow through well for me, and was just short of perfection. It was wonderful to see Nastia having fun.

I can’t wait to see what happens next week for our spring break extravaganza. I wonder if Bruno Tonioli will wear a Speedo… Something to ponder.

New Men’s Health Magazine Interview With Noah Galloway, Says No Elimination Next Week

Noah Galloway tells Men’s health Magazine that he was happy with the judges scores last night. Plus, he has two more weeks to learn more dances as next week there is no elimination.

MH: Your score wasn’t great, but a lot of the dances had lower scores this week. You had a 28, so you were down a few points from last week. But still, you are safe for another week. Is that a blessing or a curse?

NG: People on social media get so mad about the judge’s scores, but I was fine with it. The dress rehearsal a couple hours before the show was so bad. I looked angry, there was no smiling during the routine, and I was being so hard on myself. So I was happy with all sevens.

And there’s no elimination next week, so I’m guaranteed two more weeks. I feel good about that because it means there’s more I get to learn and more I get to do. It does get stressful, but to go out there and performing is extremely fun. This is where I need to be.

Lots more at Men’s Health Magazine including more of how he’s feeling about the show currently.

Dancing with the Stars Season 20, Week SIX – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Below is what we know so far for the new dances and Team Dances for Dancing With The Stars Season 20 Week 6 and note that it’s “Spring Break” Week.

ETA: We have our first song spoiler! Though I can’t say it’s exactly SPRING breaky… -Court-

ETA2: Figured I’d go ahead and confirm this one, since they were already strongly hinting at it in the live stream…oh, and apparently the teams have names now (pix below).  Sure hope Rumer’s team didn’t give themselves a headache coming up with such an original team name 😛

ETA3: Court, you were right. Carrie Ann is calling next week’s theme “Spring Break Extravaganza” according to her new blog.

ETA4: We don’t know what belongs to who, but we know the remaining dances for next week are (2) jives, a samba, a salsa, and a Viennese waltz. Discuss. 🙂

ETA5: Well we managed to fill in the blanks based on what Just Jared posted. I think the music folks at DWTS and I have very different ideas of what a “spring break” song is, though – some of these seem more like summer break songs, and some seem…dumb.

ETA6: Per Artem in the live rehearsal stream, Patti has apparently switched to quickstep.  Hmmmm…perhaps the jive was too hard for her to barely move to?

ETA7: Not to be outdone, Riker has decided to change songs. See below. :::rolls eyes::: When can we go back to the good old days where you danced to what they gave you. That certainly told us who our choreographers were. Although, before that – years ago – the pros chose ALL the music. The pendulum swings… 🙂 ~Heidi

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Sharna Burgess Blogs On Disney Night, Her New Dance With Noah Galloway, And Team Rehearsals Last Night

Be sure to see and read Sharna Burgess’ new blog at Closer Weekly. She posted some really sweet pics. She also write of how she prepared Noah Galloway for Disney Night. They dance a Rumba next! Here is take on Team rehearsals last night….

We finished team rehearsal last night and — take my word for it! — this will be a tough dance. Both teams are super strong. I love our song the most and what we started to create was so much fun! Our other dance is a Rumba, which I am seriously looking forward to rehearsing.

Robert Herjavec Writes on Disney Night On DWTS And A Very Special Fan

Robert Herjavec writes about Disney Night on Dancing With The Stars and how he got off on the wrong foot last. Here is more from Entertainment Weekly….

We stepped into the magical world of Disney this week. The ballroom was hyped with all of the characters, the familiar music, and the stunning animation. Kym and I danced the quick step to Mary Poppins’ “Step in Time,” and let’s just say the quick step won. We were really disappointed to get 6s—our lowest scores to date—but I get it. We are halfway through this challenge and the competition is getting fierce. I may not be a natural dancer, but I’ve learned a lot and I can do better. I got off on the wrong foot (literally, not metaphorically!), and it went downhill from there. I still don’t know what we are dancing to next week… but after a fun group rehearsal last night and some time to reflect, we will come back and be better than ever.
