Pros and Celebrities Talk About Derek Hough And His Injury At DWTS 10th Anniversary Party – Video
Copied and pasted from Pure Derek Hough where you can read all the latest on Derek Hough, his injury, and dancing status:
At the Dancing With The Stars 10th Anniversary party, some of the celebs and pros were asked on Derek and his injury. You can listen below. I like what Allison, Emma and Katherine Jenkins had to say the most. They seemed to really care about Derek and what happened. I don’t agree with Noah and how Derek got his injury because he’s “overworked”. His injury happened because it was a freak accident like anyone could experience whether they are working hard or doing nothing at all.
So I looked up ankle sprains in the interior and outside aspects and bone bruise (used to be a med student). Apparently, ankle sprains can only be caused by sudden trauma-like from a freak accident. So Noah was wrong on that regard. A bone bruise could be caused from repeated and strong force over an extended period of time, or it could also be caused from one instantaneous moment of trauma. So thus, its impossible for Noah to say that Derek being over-worked caused his injuries. It is most plausible to conclude that it was just caused by his freak accident. One interesting thing that I learned is that there are three or four different “grades” of ankle sprain. Grade 1 (hopefully Derek has this one) requires only one to three weeks to heal adequately. Grade four requires up to twelve weeks to heal properly! My guess from the pictures of his injury that he has either grade one or grade two though. Grade three and more can oftentimes require surgery, and there has been no mention of that. Also take note guys I’m not a doctor, but Noah’s comment made me look stuff up to see if it was possible. Best wishes to derek!
Fascinating Jennylynn. THANKS! xx
no problem!
I think that Derek’s level of exhaustion probably played a part in all of this. Both injuries — broken toe and sprained ankle — would seem to have happened because of a momentary lapse of focus or concentration (on a non-conscious level) which fatigue may certainly cause.
The injuries occurred when he was rehearsing with Maria for Tuesday, pushing himself beyond his “normal” schedule which would have had him back on a plane to NYC. Twelve or thirteen hours earlier on his way to the airport in NYC, he realized he forgot his wallet, ran 12 blocks to his apartment to get it and then 12 blocks back to catch up with the taxi his mom was still in. At the airport they had to run to catch the flight. Once in LA it was a full day of rehearsals and performances. After all that is when it happened.
None of this is criticism. I completely support Derek in doing all of what he wants to do. But the man is for sure sleep deprived. Even Derek joked about how appropriate it was that he was returning to “the city that never sleeps” because neither does he. A person can get away with that for only so long before something’s gotta give.
Thank you…jennylynn for sharing, I’ve had two ankle injuries in my lifetime and I didn’t even know that, and it is interesting.
There’s a saying:
“Just when we have everything planned out and are on a roll, life comes comes along.”
Thank you also, Vogue, for posting the video. It’s nice to see other pros and even past celeb sharing their heartfelt thoughts of Derek. I’m expecting a miracle and praying for Derek to come back to us to be in the end of this season. I believe God works in mysterious ways and Derek needed this rest. Derek is not “superman” in all reality; but I think he is one super human being who loves to entertain. God’s speed to you, Derek!
Yeah although it’s not a good thing, it DOES give him the opportunity to reset, refresh his batteries, and get much needed sleep I’m sure lol. Hopefully he’ll be back on his feet soon, literally and figureatively, and be better after this small break.
