PureDWTS Season 20 – SPOILERS!!! Who Won???? Let’s Discuss the Show!
Court here 🙂 As Heidi is currently tied up at work, I’m covering for the time being…who’s ready to finish this season off?
Nice to see Redfoo shufflin’ in the opening number…and Nastia basically slaying her little bit, as if to say “Yeah, you eliminated me just short of the finale…and I just danced better than at least 2/3 of the finalists last night.”
Riker handled that bobble in his freestyle like a champ – didn’t even know it happened until Deep Throat told me about it later.
Ruh-roh – Riker got the encore? Oh boy, Riker fans – I sure as hell hope you actually voted for him to WIN, and didn’t just waste the night tweeting for him to get the encore. Historically, he/she who gets the finale encore does NOT end up winning the MBT.
Oh boy – Team Fooma and the Juicy Wiggle 😛 Any Aussies out there? Heard a rumor that the “juicy wiggle” was actually a dance craze in Australia – and Foo basically bogarted it when he was judging The X-Factor there last summer. Random.

I gotta give Fonz credit – I’m beginning to think his season never ended and he just decided to be on this one as well, since we see so much of him 😛 Dare I say we’ve seen more of Alfonso this season than at least 2/3 of this season’s cast?

Ugh. I just realized we’re only 45 minutes into this finale – I still have to sit through another 75 minutes of it. *sigh*
Dare I say even Bruce Willis was impressed by Nastia reprising her Lindy? 😉
Speaking of Bruce – I can’t tell if he was genuinely tickled by the “Dance Hard” parody…or forcing a smile.
Nah, I think he’s having a great time – he’s grinning every time they pan to him. Either that, or they’re just looping the same clip of him smiling…

An hour and 15 minutes in and they’re just now mentioning the fusion dance. Gaaaaaah. Still gotta sit through 45 minutes of this… 😯
Goddammit it’s so dusty in my house whenever Noah dances…but he slayed that fusion. Better be a perfect score!
Ahem. So the judges pull out the 9’s – you best believe Noah was a legitimate threat to Rumer or Riker winning – and he possibly still is. Verrrrry interesting choice in score.
Could they have saddled Riker with a shitter fusion than salsa/quickstep? If he gets reamed, so help me god…
Bet you anything Rumer gets paso/foxtrot or some other dark, edgy dance – since that’s all we’ve gotten from her all season.
Either I’m psychic, or Rumer & Val are just that one-note.
Aaaaand somehow we’re still “rushing”, but there’s ample time allotted for heaping over-the-top praise on Rumer – since she’s basically the best dancer ever on DWTS, the greatest thing since sliced bread, the cure for cancer, and the second coming of Jesus Christ. This season cannot be done fast enough for me.
And we have the mandatory maudlin song being performed as the 3 finalists stand awkwardly by with clips of the couples playing in the background. Yawn.
Noah & Sharna 3rd. No huge surprises there, considering the scoring low-ball – but look at just how much they had to low-ball him to make it happen.
Winner: Rumer & Val. 2nd place: Riker & Allison
And cue the million and one justifications from Val why his 1 golden MBT is the most important win in DWTS history and is better than every single other win combined.
Is it season 21 yet?
I love DWTS but I am more than ready for this season to be over. Hahaha.
Now why can’t the finale be just an hour long and not two? Ugh…

That opening was awesome. I could watch that all day. redfoo was my favorite in that entire thing though. The recap from last night was great too becuase we would have never seen tom encouraging Noah. That was so cool to see. Also made me laugh becuase i feel like rumor’s sister should never leave the ballroom becuase her reactions are just a hoot.

Rikers freestyle is just so much fun! Watching it again was a pleasant surprise for sure (I was thinking Noah would get it). The little thing with the laptop was great too. I have a dell but I practically do the same thing every night with my friends lol.

Yep, Nastia SLAYED her dance in the opening number. Oh, mirror ball life isn’t fair, hahaha. I am now thinking Riker is NOT winning because he just got the encore, which was better than last night IMO. ::sigh:: I vowed not to drink during the week! 😛
Redfoo and Emma really are fun together…..such a shame that his first dance wasn’t his finest hour. I think the troupe members were having a blast out there too.
I wish Redfoo wasn’t eliminated so early. He would have been so fun to have continued. His music is always on the show, he had fun judging last season, and really wanted it once he showed us what he could do week 2. There should be DWTS: Redemption season for people like him.

Did anyone notice how the crowd went crazy when Nastia and Derek came out and of course they killed the same sensational move. My favorite show has really disappointed me this season. Just watching tonite to see Nastia and Derek.

But I have to say, it was so good seeing Alfonso and Witney. My favorite champions ever! It was also great to see Sadie!

Alfonso and Sadie are always a welcome sight but now I get to see him on a weekly basis on Americas funniest home videos too!!! Can’t ask for more. Suzzanne and tony were a blast to watch. That dance is just so much fun! Still feel like any other pro would have pushed her farther but she had a blast on the show.

That bad lip-read was awful and mainly unfunny. Half of them weren’t even close enough for bad lip read. The only one that made me laugh was Derek ‘I pooped. Next time I’ll do number 1.’
I didn’t like the lip read thing either. Ick!! I would have rather had Dance Center again.
I know this would be totally unfair, but I would love to see Jason Derulo and Emma together next season 🙂 I’m so psyched about Nastia’s and Derek Charleston coming up!
OK, at least Jason Derulo (someone who I haven’t warmed up to yet, except his latest single)made the effort to sing live. Though, he was severely autotuned and even Autotune couldn’t hide the fact that he did NOT hit those falsetto notes. ::sigh:: oh, this is going to be a long night.
My new dream dwts pairing is Emma and Jason derulo. That guy really is the real deal. I’m going to go as far as to say he is probably the closest thing to Michael Jackson that we have besides Bruno Mars.
Can we petition to get Emma a good partner next year? She’s become one of my favorite female pros and I hate seeing her eliminated so early in the competition or with a partner that can’t do as much.

Amy and Derek together again! She is by far one of my all time favs. Chris gets my vote for most improved this season out of the eliminated couples. Hard to believe he does what he does for a living becuase he is so comfortable with the cameras.
I 100% agree about Alfonso. I’m almost surprised he isn’t gong on the tour again this summer. I feel like he’s lurked on the show more this season than Jaymz has. ha.

I’ve watched pretty much everything I wanted to see tonight.. just waiting for Derek, Julianne, and Sia’s performance. I’ll see who won, but my job is pretty much done as a viewer tonight after Sia.
Nastia looked so happy during that Charleston. It was great to see it again, EVERYONE killed it. As soon as I saw that crazy footwork and those smiles, I sarcastically tweeted “Yeah, I couldn’t relate to Nastia either”.
I hope the show paid Bruce Willis as he has been shown on the show more than some of the celebs. Rob Wade clearly has a crush.
Think the order they have highlighted the finalists in is the order they will dance in? If it is it is a good set up for the first two to get a few points docked, and Rumer to take the perfect final 40.

Nastia just showed them how to rock a ballroom! As for “dance hard” well I’m not sure if Bruce liked it or was like “just smile and hope they buy it”. I’m leaning towards the first one.
Is it just me, or is Rumer and Val getting an awful lot of camera time? I’m tired of them and her parents.
Crap i convinced myself before the show started that It would be okay if riker and allison didnt win because we all know whats going to happen but seeing them tonight I want them to win…and I also hope people voted instead of tweeting like crazy for the freestyle..rallison actually performed their freestyle a little better than last night.
Hold on, about the encore thing, yes bethany and james got the encore past two seasons because they were eliminated, their fans went crazy and not being to vote for them, they tweeted for them. But in season 16 and season 17, when the 4th place couple got eliminated in the finale, kellie and derek and then amber and derek won the encore – and they won the mirrorball. However, this time it may be different, because riker does have a very young fanbase.
I would love to watch a rehearsal show – they seem like so much fun. Wish they’d show more of that fotoage.
Wonder when a 5th Harmony girl will be on the show. First there was the pro dance to Bo$$ last season and now this performance – I feel like one of them will be on it.

First time posting this season. I am squarely in the “ladies of a certain age” category. I am nowhere near Ricker’s traditional fan base, but I adore him! No tears, no drams, just hard working, glad-to-be here, enthusiasm. I seldom vote, but I have been voting like crazy for him.
Guess who will be dancing in blackkkkkkkkkkkkkk ? definitely not Rumer (insert sarcasm)
Of course Rumer and Val have had a chat with Tom but no Riker and Noah. Why am I even surprised. Oh yay!! Val/Rumer in black again for the fusion what a nice surprise! Now if they could just mix it up and somehow pull off a non-fusion,fierce, and intense dance that would be such a change of pace. Regarding the comment about Bruce being on the show so much think Demi has him beat hasn’t she been there EVERY show that’s who Rob has the real crush on.
OK, I really hope that Derek choreographed that Contemporary routine, then I think he has SEALED that Emmy nomination. The package should include Nastia’s Charleston & Rumba or Jazz (insert one) and this Contemporary routine. That HAS to be an Emmy nomination there.

It’s not eligble for Emmy because it’s after the DVD submission deadline. Just like EVERY spring season. I also saw another choreographer talking about it, but Derek has certainly choreographed with others before.
I expect they will rank them with Riker getting two 10s and two 9s and Rumer getting all 10s.

Well that is quite the bummer. I need to educate myself better on Emmy submission deadlines, rules, eligibility and all of that stuff. But thank you for clearing that up, PH! It surfaced on Twitter that somebody named Tessandra Chavez choreographed the contemporary routine, anyway. But, regardless, she did some great choreography. And this is coming from someone who isn’t too fond of contemporary on DWTS.
That was quite the low score for those two. I was honestly surprised. That dance was strong.

Now for the darker side of DWTS. How much black material did DWTS have to buy to have Rumer on the show. Good Grief.
Riker/Allison danced their fusion well but those dances do not flow together for me. Salsa and quickstep just no.
Even with Noah’s 9s and Riker’s 10s, Noah’s *still* only, at worst, 3.4% behind Rumer and Riker.
36-32-32 would be enough for Noah.
Tough fusion dance and Riker nailed it. What did Rumer get? Something in her wheelhouse no doubt. Riker did a full on routine. Loved it.
Quickstep/Salsa was a bad combo and that was a terrible song for a quickstep, but so happy with what Riker and Allison did. Even if they don’t win they have grown so much and I’m so proud of them 🙂
A question about the choreography Emmys—is there a certain period of the year where essentially no dance is eligible, or is it that this dance would be eligible for next year?

That Sia dance with Derek and Julianne is probably one of the most stunning pieces I’ve ever seen performed on this show. That made this entire snoozefest of a finale worth suffering that long through. It certainly showed why they don’t need the backing of the show to sell out a tour. Plus those kids were amazing.
Also good to see how strongly Derek was moving on his feet.
If they had to give Noah straight 9s he must have gotten a lot of votes. He is still a threat but with straight tens he would have been a real threat to Rumer. Hope has like a jive and waltz or something. Just something different. She did not get a quickstep this season either. When she wins, as they hope she does, she will be the most one note winner. All the nfl winners showed more range and they were never performers like her.

Given the judges comments about Rumer, I think they’re trying to justify giving her the MBT. No way should they get the trophy, they didn’t win it.
I think Rumor won for sure, but I think the Noah was a huge threat thats why they gave him those scores.
Len’s comments are a bit OTT. It sounds like Rumer won based on those comments. Those are the comments that should be said to Nastia. Everything this season was about Rumer, her parents, and Val. I don’t think Bruce ( neither big A list IMO anymore) would be there if she lost. For an anniversary season, a big dud. Including a lackluster finale. Except the Houghs and Sia performance was amazing. One of the best dances I have seen on the show.

Patti labelle is a goddess in the music world and I loved that song. As for Noah, even though I saw it coming I still want to punch the screen. God bless this man becuase he didnt seem to expect the Noah chant from the crowd. He went above and beyond this season and really should be proud of himself.
Well, it works for every show that isn’t live, Sam. Pre recorded shows stop filming usually in March so they can usually edit and put music to their shows well in advance of the May 1 submission deadline or the later DVD submittal date. It only screws over the live shows. It is possible that they can substitute, but reading the rules it sure doesn’t sound like it.
Noah going out third does not surprise me given the push for Rumer. At this point, sure everyone figures Rumer will win. How would Riker feel if they won? Len said it is a travesty. He pretty much gave it away.

I’ve now shut off my television – I simply cannot endure the display that will occur should Rumer and Val win. As others have said, I am beyond ready for this season to be done and a memory. So happy to see Derek and Nastia and Sasha again but beyond that, last night and tonight have just been seriously underwhelming. Holding on to my last bit of hope that Riker will win but given how the evening has been and the nausea inducing comments by the judges after Rumer and Val’s fusion, that hope is dwindling. Sigh.

Ironically, though, just like his brother, he won in a season where his partner won’t be the contestant most people remember.
Even the cameraman focused on Val. And Val hasn’t even let Rumer hold the trophy. What a shock. Still haven’t seen Rumer hold the trophy as they cut. Noticed Derek right up there in front to congratulate them. Classy dude. The Fam could learn a thing or two.

Would someone here go back and confirm what I saw and heard. Right after Riker is interviewed Tom goes over to hand off the MBT. Derek has pulled Val in and says something in his ear and Val responds, “Whatever”. Then Derek congrats and kisses Rumer. Would love to know what Derek said.
No! Riker deserved it! Val was nothing but an annoying spoiled brat and pig. Riker was a lot more better and more consistent than Rumer. Val was all about himself. Ugh. I am so angry, for the second time since watching the series.
Can Val just let go of the MBT? Let Rumer hold it for a minute at least. This season just proved how rigged everything is =(

Well, I am totally bummed! Riker should have won. I just decided that I will no longer watch DWTS. This was my last season.
I’m sad about how things have turned out because I actually like Rumer. She comes across so grateful and a genuine. But with her I’ll only ever think if only. If only they put her with a pro that could really showcase what a talent she is? I’ll congratulate Rumer but not Val, he doesn’t deserve it. I wonder if Noah had them beat on votes alone.

I just want to make it known that I would have been happy if ANYONE…..ANYONE but R and V won, even Chris, the Bachelor. I am so let down this season by the viewer manipulation, the overwrought emotion the Chmerkovsky brothers bring to every single conversation they have, and the phony, phony, PHONY judges. I have watched this show faithfully for 10 years (and I’m only 32, so I have been watching when NONE of my peers have), but I will not watch this garbage show again. I love me some Tom, Erin, and MOST of the pros, but Charlie White getting screwed over was the beginning of the dwts coffin going in the ground for me. I’m just done with this show.

Speaking of choreography: there’s no question that Derek is the best choreographer among the pros. After this season, there’s no doubt in my mind, at least, that Sharna is second.
I never, EVER, EVER, EVER again want to hear the stupid “I’ve been on the show for x amount of seasons, so I deserve to win this time” excuse EVER AGAIN.

I do feel for Rumer – especially since she was just left kinda standing there awkwardly as Val snatched the trophy and had his moment with the DWM cronies. Had she been paired with anyone else, I probably would have loved her – even voted for her. But never before has someone’s pro partner been so UNPALATABLE to me that it tainted the entire partnership.
I feel like crap I knew what the outcome would be but I am still sad..good job rallison for being entertaining.
Rumer deserved the win, couldn’t care less for Val. The general audience LOVED Rumer and her personality + her great dancing. Riker’s freestyle was kinda mehh, looked exactly like Alfonso-Witney’s freestyle. Rumer went the traditional, classic way and that clicked… and she won! 🙂
I’m so HAPPY! This really means a lot to Rumer..hope she can find success in her career now. People now knows Rumer Willis, the actress, singer, dancer…not just Bruce/Demi’s daughter. Proud of her!!
on a positive note, it seems like the others contestants and pros really like rumor. I think more ran to her than to Val. Hopefully rumor does the majority of the talking tommorrow on gma.
No reason for me to watch it now(I’m on the West Coast). Notice a lot of similarities between the 2 brothers’ win? They got rid of the strongest contestant to insure the win(Charlie for Maks) and Nastia for Val. That leaves them to win over 2 celebs w/ disabilities and of course regular pimping from TPTB.
I can just imagine the crowing of the Fam tonight and tomorrow. I don’t think I will even go on the internet. show has become a sham.

I’m not surprised at all but I’m so disappointed that Riker lost and SOOOOO disgusted at how I know Val and Maks and DWM and The Fam and the Extended Fam are all going to act that I’m actually getting a headache.

I don’t blame Rumer for any of this. In fact I feel badly for her because Val’s behavior after winning was disgusting. Of course it’s been disgusting all season which I why I wanted them to loose. Rumer seems like a wonderful girl and considering Derek seems to be half in love with her, than that says she has a good soul and loving spirit. So Congrats Rumer. This is why I watched The Voice. I didn’t want to be disappointed or angry. On the good side, with Val finally winning, that means he can stop whining. On the bad side, The Fam and all their cronies…

Maybe it’s just me, but I swear after Rumer & Val were announced the winners, I saw Tony hold up 3 fingers and yell into the camera, “Three!” – like 1 win for Tony, 1 win for Maks, and now 1 win for Val. Pathetic.
If only we as the viewers could pull some stunt to ruin a set agenda such as this season’s Rumer-and-Val-a-palooza! Just get a large standing behind a contestant who isn’t getting pimped for a win. I enjoy Rumer I truly do, but Val just left his partner in the dust to claim HIS win. Now he has his cake and he eats it too. I just hope Rumer will get a chance at all-stars WITHOUT Val. Remember when it used to be that the freestyle either won it for you or made you lose. Clearly that was not the case this season. Liked rumer didn’t like val. But this season of pimping is over! Now we get to hear val fans rave about the win until season 21

My husband said it was going to Val from day one and no one was going to change TPTB. He found a copy of a contract which states the final decision for the winner is in the hands of the producer. They can slant the production and arrange publicity for the chosen one, to fix the results all the while saying it was in the hands of the public. ABC needs to make sure next time the producer tries to fix the results to hide it better, or the show wont last much longer. I like good dancing, I liked Val when he was having fun , lately all he wanted was the trophy and did not earn it. His dances this year especially were by far his worst. He did Rumer an injustice and never really showed anything different. So I guess Val is a UNINTERESTING ONE NOTE WONDER- walk some gaze into their eyes and rub bodies. But he knows he really did not earn it, it was given to him by TPTB. As an adult I would lower my head in shame as to how I got it and would hide it from everyone. This season really ruined the show for me, it will be hard to watch anymore as long as Rob produces it. I feel sorry for the other celebrities and pros who worked hard this season and deserved better highlights and at least a chance. It was so good to see Kym back and I always love to see Emma and Sharna. If this trophy will make Val grow up and play nice then I am ok with him taking it home, it just doesn’t mean the same somehow with the producers deciding who they want to promote and not let it play out on its own. Congratulations to Noah and Riker for their wonderful dances they brought to us, Rumer I am sorry your partner was such a douche. At least you will get your own trophy eventually. Oh Val this was supposed to be for Rumer not you stop hogging the spot light.

SYTYCD is live during the SUMMER, so they actually are eligible nearly a year after their shows have aired. For example, when the show starts in June or July, the dances won’t be eligible until Emmy 2016. This coming Emmys will have choreography from LAST summer. It’s very confusing, I know.

Actually, DWTSFan, Rumer’s freestyle was not “classic” AT ALL. It’s a freestyle. Doing a standard AT is not “classic” for a freestyle. It’s a cop out.
Actually, considering how often they showed Bruce and Demi in the audience, pretty sure still have that tag hanging around her neck. I feel bad about her, because this was all about Val and her parents.
Disappointed… Rumer & Val were given the easy mix-able fusion, while Riker & Allison were given more difficult styles to mix. Really?? Salsa & Quickstep???!!!! Did everyone else notice that Riker & Allison were not given the time of day in most of those packages??!!! All that hard work of Riker’s… and the Producers screw up his chances because they have a favored winner and pro who want Val to get his first trophy. This sickens me. There are gonna be R5 & DWTS fans disappointed or infuriated by this winning. I give congrats to Rumer, but Val shouldn’t have been handed that trophy. He will NEVER let us hear the end of it. I give SO many props to Allison for creating that dance to such an ODD fusion challenge. Either way… sounds like Riker & Allison may try to head to Broadway. Good on them! This show is headed nowhere fast as it is, and Allison has WAY more potential than that.

Yo, now that Val’s got his wonderful golden trophy, he can just leave. I mean, the season wasn’t any different to any other, it’s just that it was the 10th anniversary and that the mirrorball was gold. I mean, seriously? Poor Rumer, she’s an amazing person, but I think that being with Val didn’t do her any favors, especially not this season. Interesting how TPTB thinks that somehow they are the best couple they’ve ever had on the show or something. Probably the weakest freestyle with the win in a very long time, Rumer did well with what she was given, but it wasn’t anything close to Riker’s uniqueness or even Nastia or Noah for goodness sake.
Every time a pro has won, for pretty much every time I can recall, the winning couple was very courteous to the other, except for maybe the other very rigged Season 15. Somehow maybe 1 “golden” MBTs = 10 MBT, I dunno. I thought the behavior from the PRO was ridiculous, and I really do hope for a better season next. Good job TPTB, good job.
I know it’s against the Pure consensus, but i’m glad she won. She was a great dancer and Noah didn’t deserve to win and Riker’s dancing all season was way too hectic and wild for my tastes.
The good thing is now there isn’t any longstanding pro without a win. Sharna, Allison, Emma, etc have only been on a handful of seasons.
If anything it might be Mark’s time next, it’s been 12 seasons since his last trophy.

The show seems so rigged now, especially after reading Derek’s blog this week. I have looked forward to this show on Mondays for years, but I feel that Derek was really betrayed in order to ensure the superstars’ kid won. He has been so instrumental in raising the bar for dancing and choreo. I feel sad and bummed. I can’t imagine Derek will return. I always thought Val was an exceptional artist, much more than his brother, but boy, his attitude was appalling. Lastly I have a hard time listening to the uber rich complain and moan like Rumer did. I’m sorry, but I do not feel sorry for her. Apologies for sounding negative but I feel like the show is really over for me. I didn’t even watch the finale. Not because Derek wasn’t in it, but because it feels like the show is now run by a bunch of young boys who were educated by video games.
I actually think (maybe it’s just wishful thinking) that if TPTB gave Val a non-ringer who very clearly wasn’t going to win but could make it a ways, it might bring out the best in him. When he gets ringers, he makes it all about him, but if the person isn’t that good I think he might not do that and would be 10x more palatable to me.
Here’s what is frustrating to me: before Maks’s season with Meryl, I actually liked him some of the time. I still thought he was a jerk some of the time, but I liked what he brought to the show. And before this season, I liked Val. But the pimpage of a certain season being a fam member’s time killed any appeal either of them had to me. I hope they don’t start saying similar things about Artem or whichever cast member they’ve decided to adopt.
Tonight just solidified to me how much of a disservice TPTB did to the audience by engineering Nastia’s elimination. If I had my druthers, she would’ve won, with Noah in second and Riker in third. Having Derek and Nastia’s freestyle in the mix with these two….I can only imagine how epic that would’ve been. Instead, we got this.

This was my favourite season because of riker. i’m so glad i got to see him in every episode!!!!!!!!!:) I wish he won, but at least we got ten weeks 🙁 he was in jeopardy so often, I started getting all my family and friends to vote.
Allison did a good job this season 100x better than last season..her and riker kept me entertained …she still need to work on the ballroom dances…but her contemporary was my favorite this season and if she is on next season I cant wait for her to do another one…and I hope that the producer tell val that if he get to do another freestyle he is not allowed to do contemporary think of something new seriously…#goodjobrallison.
Can’t say I was too surprised by the result. I mean, the fantasy of Rum- ahem I mean, Val winning has been shoved in our faces even before the competition began. I just hope Val grabbing the MBT will finally quiet the fam, but that’s highly unlikely. It just wasn’t the outstanding finale that it could have been without Derek and Mark, although Noah/Sharna and Riker/Allison were fantastic! Here’s hoping that next season won’t produce the same shenanigans we saw this season. Just hoping.

How funny the Fam all got their trophies because it was setup for them to win. You can not tell me Melissa was a better dancer than Shawn and Shawn had harder dances Tony say thank you. Maks & Merly were great but then there was Charlie and Sharna, ops must get rid of him to eliminate the threat Maks say thank you, and now Val the pimping to end all pimping; you all need to thank the TPTB that arranged for your trophies.

Wait is the “golden” MBT worth two regular ones or something? That’s so freaking stupid, it’s not like no other winning couple didn’t try as hard was as good or something. Hell, Val couldn’t even pay respect and courtesy to his own partner who pretty much won it, and the only one of the two who actually deserved it. He can take a few serious boot camp from some other pros on a self check attitude lesson. I’m sure the report cards won’t be great in Derek’s class.
Ok, I definitely voted for Noah once Nastia was eliminated but man did I feel so bad for Riker. Standing up there in that number 2 spot is so intense! My heart just broke for them when the winners were announced. Ughh. It must be so difficult to be runner-up, having come so so close and yet just missing the big win. So bittersweet, and you have to sort of just stand there while everyone else congratulates the other couple. I now understand what Derek meant by 4th or 1st place being the sweet spot. Being 4th, at least they had some time to get over the loss and actually enjoy the finale. Phew! *intense* Riker and Noah should be so proud of themselves. Way to put on a good show and a good fight.
Season 20 – I’m over it. Good for Val, good for Rumer…moving on.
That contemporary number by Derek and Julianne was INSANE! Such an incredibly powerful piece about love and their extraordinary bond. How long have we been watching these two perform? Since season 5? I feel like all of America has grown up along with them. How lucky are we? They really are our generation’s Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Highlight of the night and perhaps season for me. Love those two.
Why would the golden MBT be worth more?? It’s just one more season. Because it’s the 20th, it’s a different color. But I imagine the less intelligent will try to make more out of it.
So – west coast here. Just watched the opening number. I liked it. And Derek and Nastia’s snippet…made me wish they had danced in the finals. Their freestyle would have KILLED IT!
Don’t know that I’ll watch the end since the outcome is as predicted. Disappointing that the outcome came down to the largest A-List celebrity backing with alot of help from the final judge’s scores.
Most times in the finale if the judges want someone to win and the fan support isn’t as strong they give the finalists a big spacing in scores.
I remember Brooke being way, way ahead of Lance and Warren.
I mean granted some things seemed set up, but they scored Rumer and Riker the exact same, he could’ve easily overtaken her if he had more votes.

I am dumbfounded. I thought that with most of the Nastia & Derek fans (and Derek himself has a lot) would vote for Ryker, since he was the only other good dancer left of the three remaining. But, the producers and judges magnified Rumer & Val all season and I saw yet another S-18 all over again only it was more relevant this season that Val was guaranteed his MBT. This was all set up and I won’t believe any thing different. I won’t be waiting for the next season, because I feel betrayed and that this is just a game TPTB plays. Derek has a big fan base and Nastia has a lot of fans being a gymnastic champion. I just will never believe that their amount of fans voting for Riker wouldn’t make a difference. Things just don’t add up and I have lost respect for TPTB.
Ugh I so wanted to be wrong in my prediction. But just like in S18 it was obvious from the vibe of the whole long telecast who was going to win.
The behavior of the Fam was so terrible yet so predictable: Tony and his 3 fingers gesture, the cameraman and Fam focusing on Val not Rumer, and Val taking the trophy, not letting Rumer really hold it at all and then kissing it ewww. Thank goodness for some of the few good people like Nastia & Derek who bothered to hug and congratulate Riker & Allison too initially.
SO happy for no more Val whining about never winning though. I really hope Val settles down now that he has a trophy. And that they stop giving him such good partners. I really don’t think he’s going anywhere folks, haven’t heard a thing about him wanting to leave the show like Maks. I would love to see a C Bros free season though. If that ever happened I bet their crazy fans would still show up here causing problems for the mods though.
With the who’s counting mirror balls game – I actually think it is pretty safe to say no pro will catch Derek – I really don’t think the producers and the public voters will ‘allow’ any one pro to win 5 again. And the Hough Ballas Mafia has never been pimped to any of their 9 wins, which is also a win for them. 🙂
Best thing about tonight: The Elastic Heart number and seeing Nastia dance and perform so well.
I need a break. I hope to God there isn’t as much manipulation next season, I can’t take it.
Once Val won, Rumer became unimportant to him. She was his guaranteed ticket to a win given to him by TPTB. I have no respect for him or for Tony and the way he behaved. None of the Fam will ever come close to the graciousness that Derek and Mark have always shown. Val could learn a lot from them.
I’m sorry Rumer that you didn’t get a better partner. Thank you Noah and Sharna and Riker and Allison for the entertaining and creative dances you gave us.

They also didn’t pimp the crap out of Brooke, Matt. You can’t logically compare the older seasons to the current ones.
They pretty much had to score Riker the same, since he danced just as well. In the case of Warren, Brooke and Lance, they weren’t on an even playing field at all. Brooke was way ahead.
KKat, it was always a long shot. Most people just don’t waste time voting for someone they’re not invested in. And most people just aren’t into voting AGAINST someone else.
Heidi, I only meant that maybe she wasn’t super ahead in terms of votes and they wanted her to win, so they spaced out the scores a bit more.
If they underscored Riker, I would say the same about Rumer, but she legitimately won on her own merits being tied with the runner-up. If anything, I think maybe the 8’s and 9’s for Noah were to keep him out of 2nd place.
Out of that final three, I’m glad Rumor won. Riker in some ways is very, very good, but he’s just too wild. He needs to rein it in and work on refining his dancing.
Now, I say out of those three, because it is my view that the final three should have been Willow, Nastia, and Rumor. Not sure who I’d give the MBT, but whatever the case, we’d have had a much more interesting final competition with that group.
BTW, Alan is just so adorable. Hope he gets a bigger role next season.

Matt 206 – The producers know how much votes each person is pulling in. I think if Riker was in danger of dethroning Val, they would have scores him lower. If Noah was tied with Rumer in scores, I actually think he could have won and hence, he couldn’t be scored the same. Even without the snafu in the AT on Mon, they would have only given him 9s I think.
Forgot to mention two things. Judges saying she’s one of the best ever on the show is just wrong.
And a BIG thank you to the mods, the dwts seasons are so much better because of you all! Really appreciate all you do to inform us and keep us entertained!
I’m with Court (#146) I think Rumer is a beautiful dancer, but week after week every dance portrayed the same emotion. I think she is goofy and kinda nerdy. I blame the Pro for not bringing out those facets of her personality. Reading the comments about how the “winner” celebrated, I won’t be watching the last few minutes of the show.

Matt I don’t believe most people who are pissed would have minded the result if TPTB hadn’t manipulated the hell out of the season for Valenrue. They even gave marching orders to GMA for heaven’s sake. It was shameless and insulting to those of us that were rooting for other couples.

That’s a good point, and after reading it, I have to agree. Down deep inside I was trying not to believe the couple that was “pimped” big time would not win. You would think I would have learned from M & M given win. I just hope Val leaves like his brother. I couldn’t stand to watch another season, unless of course, TPTB set him up with an obese woman who is a real challenge so I can laugh my a$$ off until he gets them eliminated.
I’m an R5 fan and have also watched DWTS with my family since I was a kid.
It was so much fun watching Riker on the show but the way they’ve been treating him actually compared to Rumer is really disgusting! Rumer in the finale is being praised for singing “toxic” and her tremendous talent as if no one with similar talents has ever walked the earth. Then you have Riker who sings and dances, and who’s taught himself to play 4 different instruments! He’s an actor and has gotten parts simply by working hard and without the connections of famous parents. His hard work finally pays off and he gets to hear the songs he wrote with his brothers, sang back to him by thousands. How is that not an inspirational story over Rumer’s? (She says she overcame confidence issues on the show. Yes then it was me who said “we have no competition” week one!!!) How is it possible that Ross can talk about all this in a 5 minute interview at some random radio station and not when his brother’s package was being made? Not only were his packages short but I cannot possibly imagine how they were editing them just to make Rumer look good…or better say to sell DWTS tour tickets! They downplayed one contestant’s talent just to make sure another one wins. Yet Riker still was his grateful, happy, upbeat self through it all. Class act like his cousin.
I’m going with next season’s pro storyline to be Mark winning again since it’s been 12 seasons.
Maybe have Nastia come back and put her with Mark 😉
Did anyone else feel really bad for Riker? When they announced Rumer and Val, the whole cast shot after them like a pack of sharks going for blood that everyone forgot about Riker and Allison standing right there. I think the only ones to go up to them and hug them were Michael Sam, Noah, Sharna, and Derek. I think maybe I saw Lindsay in there but I don’t know. It was too crowded and hectic plus my tv screen is really tiny.
On another note, Rumer put a picture on her Instagram of Noah and Riker before the finale thanking them for the season and wishing them well. At least one half of that couple values respect for healthy competition and good sportsmanship. Good for her!

I fail to understand why everyone here saying Rumer’s win was a ”set up” or fans on twitter calling it as ”rigged”? It’s simple as that, Rumer got MORE VOTES than Riker..thus she won. Cause both Riker/Rumer tied with the same scores, so it was the viewer votes that made RUMER the winner!
And i also don’t understand why people blaming Nastia’s eviction on Rumer?Nastia just dint had the public votes or the connectivity with the general audience…that’s why she was eliminated. I also think, if she wasn’t paired up with Derek …she would’ve gone home earlier. As i voted for her JUST CAUSE of Derek…otherwise i could never connect to her. She lacked emotions most of the time.
PS. NO OFFENSE to anyone, just what I FEEL.
Well, I can t say I’m surprised ab the outcome. I find it funny that Val is probably so proud of himself right now when in reality as far as I’m concerned he won bc Derek and Nastia weren’t in the final. I’m sure Derek would have killed the freestyle like he always does. That AT that Val called a freestyle was just that an AT like the ones we see all the time, nothing special.
I like Rumer and she is a beautiful dancer so for her I am happy. I don t think the C bros care how they win as long as they do, and can brag ab it.
This was a great finale and rumer and Val deserved to win.
It played exactly the way TPTB wanted. They probably knew all along Riker wasn’t getting votes compared to Rumer and Noah and that wouldn’t change. They knew that they could control Noah in the final by placing him first in the order and scoring his normal dances low to give Rumer a big cushion. The biggest threat by far was Nastia and Derek because they knew that Derek could beat them in the finale with an amazing freestyle that we certainly would have seen from Nastia that probably would have got the votes to beat Rumer. So they took her out the only way they could, by portraying her wrongly in a negative arrogant light to the viewers at home who were obviously turned off by her in that package enough to not vote for her. They were well and truly hosed and it’s really a joke just how easily it was allowed to happen. People at home really do swallow up everything that is fed to them on the show.
Well, we all saw that coming, didnt`t we? The writing was on the wall from day 1. I agree with Laura (#188), that a weaker partner could bring out a more likeable side of Val. To be honest, the only season I really enjoyed him was with Sherri Shepherd, all the others he came across as WAY too intense. Like loosen up, buddy…have some fun!
Now he has his long desired MBT, but it was in a season with one of the weakest choreography he has produced, in my opinion. Zendaya, Kelly Monaco, Elizabeth Berkley, Danica and even Janel had much harder and better choreography.

By the way has anyone seen that picture doing the rounds on social media. Val and Rumer both being lifted in the air. Rumer looks all sweet and gracious looking over at Val who is cradling the gold mirrorball like a newborn with his eyes shut. If ever a picture summed up a partnership or a season, that was it. Someone needs to link it here so everyone can see it. It couldn’t be more fitting towards Val and his infatuation with that mirrorball.
Even though we were told on Night 1 that it was Val’s year, and the constant pimping, I was hoping that Riker and Allison could pull it off. The show seems so rigged to me – it’s not even fun to watch anymore. Yes, I noticed how Val left Rumer in the dust with his precious ball. Just ugh.
Loved seeing Derek and Julianne dance – definitely Emmy worthy – too bad it’s not eligible. I really hope that Derek can fulfill his contract as “Creative Director” or something other than as a pro next season.

Utterly shocked with the result. I cannot believe it. What a lacklustre season it has been. For a 10th Anniversary season, meh. Val totally did NOT deserve it. His choreographies this season paled in comparison to what we saw the previous seasons. And the freestyle? Oh gosh that looked like any ordinary routine. It was 3/4 AT and some extra bits added to make it look like a freestyle. Honestly his freestyle fell flat for me. And @Jacob, you echoed my thought: Can someone tell Val to stop choreographing freestyles that are contemporary?! The whole idea about “stripping it down” and “it’s just not me to do big production numbers” is tiring. It’s as if he thinks he will not live up to the standards of creativity if he were to go down the big-production-route for a freestyle. Cmon Val, show your creativity! The one with Zendaya was uber fun, though 🙂
Also I did see his attitude when he got the trophy. How about a hug for the runner-ups? How about holding the trophy with your partner?
I felt this season it was all about Val. He did not earn it. The true winners would have been either Nastia or Riker. I feel this whole season Nastia has been nitpicked about SEVERAL things when her dances were 10-worthy. This post is getting long but I want to add this: Nastia’s rumba in Week 2 was far more superior and well-executed (though she could have displayed more emotions and a connection with Derek) than Rumer’s Rumba. When Rumer earned 10s for it, I had my hands up in the air and eyes in disbelief. Nastia was good all along and with all the travelling to and fro and studies to juggle she managed to perform and with precision. Alas, they would not let Derek win his MBT as Val “has been in the finals 3 times and hasn’t won”.
Riker and Allison had no drama, just plain good fun dancing, high energy and a wonderful friendship. Allison’s choreographies have brought a fresh twist to the traditional ballroom dances we have seen (read: The Viennese Waltz they did had a contemporary feel to me which was nice). Riker performed with flair and persisted throughout the weeks with hard work and determination. Although his technique in certain ballroom dances could have been improved (and I owe this in part to Allison’s ballroom dance experience), he was a fantastic dancer.
I’m so glad this season is over. Thanks to PureDWTS for your posts. Enjoy reading the reviews 🙂 Wish Val would leave. Hope to see Emma get a better partner. And Sasha and Jenna made a pro. 😀
Thank you, mods and others! I’ve enjoyed reading all your wonderful thoughts I’m still undecided if I’ll watch season 21. Good job producers! You’ll lose a big number of avid fans, for sure! Now, on to So You Think You Can Dance season 12!
My considerations about this season:
– Good pairing (there’s some couples I’ll always remember: Noah and Sharna, Val and Rumer, Robert and Kym…)
– Good song choices (one of my great concerns every season)
– Good star stories
– judge’s helping twist
The finale was great and what was that elastic heart dance? Amazing.
Things I didn’t like:
– I wanted more latin dances. more ballroom dance, less contemp/jazz/charleston.
– lot of dances with a lot of troupe members… it was like a early freestyle in the middle of the season. Definitely the thing I hated the most.
– The way things went with Nastia & Derek (I know this is a Derek’s fans place, but I think with this crazy schedule they had, traveling back and forth, chemistry just came up when he got injuried and couldn’t dance. don’t think he needed to be a part of the dances even injuried, that was unnecessary… In the end, it happened to be a waste of a good star… I like the guy, no doubt he is one of the best DwtS pros or even the best one, but… MY OPINION)
– how the rehearsal package was bad for Nastia (but have to point it was bad for Noah as well, and sharna and him answered it back on the show). I love her, I was so thrilled when I knew she would be in the show, specially with Derek, but then it turned into what it was…
In the end, I think Rumer deserved to win. She was good as dancer and performer, choreographies were good, had story, had commitment… Just wanted to see she dancing a samba to a proper “sambable” song. Loved Noah and what Sharna made of him. I mean, what she did, was unbelievable. GREAT work. I liked Riker and Allison, I really did, and I lover her, she’s adorable, hard worker, but still feel that her ballroom tecnique needs to be improved. I wished I could see Willow and Mark in the finals. Loved that girl.
meh. now that the fam has enough mbts to divvy up amongst themselves, can they run far, far away and never come back? somehow I have a feeling the whining will just evolve from “I’ve never won” to “I don’t have 5 mbts”. Rumer didn’t win the trophy. She’s a wonderful dancer who’s been done a great injustice. No better off than Riker, Willow or Nastia in the end.
It’s fine. I’ll just sit back and wait for my Derek and Mark Emmy nominations.
The show might be trashy but I’ll still watch S21 for the likes of actual, professional choreographers like BH (if they even decide to give TPTB the time of day), Sharna, Witney, Kym, etc.

When Val ever gets a challenging, non-pimped partner and does well with her, then I’ll give him some respect.
And now time for no tea, all shade. So Val has his mirrorball. I bet he uses it as a way to pick up chicks. “Hey baby, you wanna come home with me and see my big mirrorball?”
As someone who didn’t have a clue who Riker was or who was his band before the season started… I am now a huge fan. I so enjoyed the way he handled himself throughout the season. – always positive and complimentary, and always with such poise and maturity. Such a fine example of how to compete – nice guys can do well. He is the winner to me.
A follow up …. I also so enjoyed Allison. She brings such a refreshing twist / vibe to her dances and I enjoyed them all. They may not be in the true classical ballroom style, but I liked them all and wish her much success. Her attitude, too, was lovely – positive and enthusiastic, and putting Riker first and really challenging him each week with difficult and unique dances. Oh, and I love her husband, Twitch, too. Their sock commercial is adorable.
Do we actually KNOW for a FACT that Rumer got more votes? Maybe, but I still think that Riker could’ve gotten more but that didn’t go with the “it’s Val’s Season’ theme of S20 that TPTB were pusing down our throats since week 1.
Val was sickening with that MBT last night..kissing it, hugging it. Now STFU about it already!
As Susan2 said in #245, when Val can get to the Finals with a Kellie Pickler type or an Amber Riley type, someone who DOES NOT have any type of performing background..then I’ll give him some respect. When he’s been given ringer after ringer after ringer. How many ringers did it take for Val to FINALLY win?
TBH, I never considered Rumer to be a celeb. She’s the DAUGHTER of 2 former 80’s A-list actors who are barely relevant now. Every week, they panned to Bruce and Demi in the audience. Giving them more camera time than some of the actual contestants. Because of her being partnered with Val, I couldn’t be brought to liking her. Had she been paired with someone else, possibly. I feel they did Rumer a great disservice pairing her with Val.SMH. Glad this fiasco of a season is over.

Actually, Nastia’s reprise dance was supposed to be a Charleston, not a Lindy. But it wasn’t that either. Either time. Fun, but not a Charleston.
I have watched season 16,17,19,20 and only two couples that I was rooting for won derek and amber season 17 and last season witney and alfonso(my favorite couple)…I had no ideal who riker was but I am glad he was on this season and kept my 20 year old self entertained..I am glad this season is over so people can stop quoting adele song “rumor has it” for rumer….even though they just played the song on good morning america.
Well, DWTSFan, if you don’t like everyone venting, you are free to go elsewhere.

Anna R, Val is headlining the DWTS tour this summer, supposedly. If he didn’t win, there would be no other winners other than Melissa and Tony on the tour. Derek, who is clearly the star of DWTS by any measurable metric, is not long for the show. The producers have been expecting him to leave for some time now, I’m sure. They need Val to happen for when Derek’s gone.
As if Val could ever measure up. Not even close.
Usually, when a season is heavily manipulated, you can find a variety of reasons why. Another one is that it hurts the credibility of the show to have Derek win a 6th time. I imagine it also does some damage behind the scenes. Yet, they desperately want him on the show. It takes (obviously) a lot of effort to keep them big name pro on the show, yet not let him win AND get a win for Val who’s going on their tour where they make tons of cash.
Kelly K, I’d like to see how Val could do with a Joanna Krupa or a Lil Kim or a Ricki Lake.
Joanna could not dance at all, yet Derek managed to get her to 4th place and disguised her as a dancer. Something tells me Val would be out in the first week. Maybe because that already happened once. 😀
Derek definitely adores Rumer. seen him chatting up Rumer a lot of times back stage all hugging and last night on All Access lol but I am not sure Rumer feels the same or she is worried Val will not like it 2 much. On Twitter when Derek wished well 2 them all she said was thank you no smiley nothing same Val like ya ok thanx I tot she would get in trouble if she was nice to Derek. But our man is the sweetheart he is :-). season is over NO MORE I have not won so hopefully we will c some normal dancing nxt ssn or wait is it Artem’s turn now?
I will need to rewatch again to be certain but I am pretty sure I saw them indicate on screen in the beginning that Noah was 3rd place, Riker 2nd and Rumer 1st. How can she be in 1st place if Rumer and Riker got identical scores on Monday?
Maybe now the show can move on in a better direction. Both brothers now have a mirror ball so we won’t need to hear them moan and groan anymore and see Tony jump around like a little kid because one of them won.
Let’s have Sasha be teamed up with a gymnast or something next year and see how great he will do!
I am an avid fan of DWTS but this year was ho-hum for me. Too predictable, especially after reading this blog during the season. You must all have incredible mind-reading skills…Some great pros/celebrity get shafted every year for someone’s hidden agenda…

I’m glad that the only real difference between the finalists (and how they end up) is pride and a piece of wood and metal. If this were like, say, The Amazing Race or Survivor, with large amounts of cash up for grabs, I’d be livid. (Of course, if they wanted to do that, S&P would be watching the vote tallies like hawks.)
Well, I didn’t think it was possible but this season may have left an even worst taste in my mouth than S18. Having just seen a few photos from the end of the show last night this morning, and reading what others have said about the DWM fam behavior, I am so grateful I haven’t watched the video and have no intentions of doing so anytime soon. Congrats to Rumer – I do feel like she was in it for the experience and the journey. I wanted to like her but just couldn’t connect. It really is a shame she was partnered with Val as I agree with others who have said that he is the reason they couldn’t connect with her. As for Val, I hope you truly enjoy that shiny gold mirror ball trophy that likely would not have been yours had it not been for the manipulations of TPTB, Bruce, Demi, the Willis sisters and the machine that was PR for you and Rumer. I hope that one day you can look back on that moment last night and realize how appalling your behavior was. Perhaps instead of competing with Derek – and let’s be honest here, there really is no competition – you can learn class and sportsmanship from him, both of which you completely lack. I’m not holding out hope though. For you that mirror ball was given not earned, but hey if that makes you feel good, kudos to you.
I’ve seen many, not just here, question why fans feel that this season Rumer and Val were being pimped. When you have your head judge declaring that this could be Val’s year this year, when you have not a single negative package, when you have Bruce Willis and Demi Moore being shown every two minutes every time they were in attendance, and you have the frustrations and exhaustion of other celebrities being continuously highlighted (Nastia’s package alone was shown three or four times!) then it is crystal clear just who the producers want voters to vote for. The non-connection story line for Derek and Nastia started day one and was hammered into the consciousness of the viewers, while their lighter, fun moments were ignored in the produced packages. It might not be outright vote tampering but it sure as heck is voter manipulation.
Selfishly, I would love to see Derek again in S21 but for him to be treated so horribly and given that he is so beyond this show now, I hope he doesn’t come back. Having said that, if he doesn’t, it’s going to take an awful lot to get me to watch this show again.

Now that I have time to digest it all, seen GMA, the other interviews so far, I am happy for RUMER. She had her story and growth for sure and who came blame her family for being excited – and famous. I am just bummed that from the very first dance, it was stated it was VAL’S year to win. Game over, let’s just pack our things and head home now, why bother.
Truly happy for Noah. He knew he was not going to win and as a realist you can see he was pleased by the outcome. He said on GMA that Jaime is prettier than the MBT. Really that is what’s important. Due to his sacrifice, he has a different perspective. He is the one person that I think will be positively effected by the show.
I think Riker is very disappointed…haven’t seen any interviews other the GMA. He seemed quieter and bummed, but he came here to have fun. He really didn’t have a moving story or an end game of any kind. What was his journey? How did he grow as a person? Maybe people felt Allison hadn’t paid her dues? He did get a ton of votes for his flair and being cute, but it wasn’t enough I don’t think. Maybe that’s what happened.

I still feel that being with Val was a great disservice to her. He never PUSHED her to go farther, to be better. They stuck with simple for their Freestyle..while it was nicely executed, it wasn’t WOW! like Derek’s freestyles. His with Kellie Pickler made me cry!
Well said, MichLee. That is exactly how it went down. That fake movie trailer for Bruce was incredibe favoritism for the family connection. I don’t know why the Willis family is sooo important to DWTS but for a gal who says she wants to move beyond her famous parents, Rumer relied on their profile on the show a great deal.
If there’s one thing I hate in the crowning moment, it’s when everyone storms to the stage right after the announcement. I don’t care who wins, even if it’s Derek, no one should storm into the stage like that. Let the winners and the losers have their moment please!. Alfonso’s win was such a beautiful moment, the moment Tom announced his name Alfonso bow down in joy while Witney could hardly breathe with excitement, and everyone else clapped and shouted – THAT was a great moment. Seeing all those people, Chmercocky fam or not, storming into the stage RIGHT after Rumer’s name was announced, was just plain ugly. Okay, Rumer and Val could be excluded because they’re obviously overjoyed of winning, but what about Alison and Riker? I can imagine they were like “Oh Rumer? congrats then, oh hey guys, oh, yeah, just go to her, we’re just, um, going to be here, yup, no worries, congrats for her too, yeah, oh hey Derek hmmmmh thanks thanks”. Ugh I literally have to skip Rumer’s crowning moment right after Val was hoisted into the air.
Even when the winners are beyond ecstatic – Donald Driver springs into my mind – everyone else was happy but NO ONE step into the stage. It was triggered when Tony wins, and really happened when Maks win, and now Val. Call me making too much over nothing, but hey, that has always been me here.

So very happy with the outcome, Rumer and Val were the best and deserved this win. Val did an amazing job of bringing out the best in Rumer and you could see her confidence growing each week. This is what this show is all about. Each of the pros wants to win the MBT with the star they are partnered with. So Val wanting to win is the same as Sharna wanting to win, Allyson wanting to win, Mark wanting to win, Derek wanting to win, they all want to win, that is what the show is all about.
The judges points are important but so are the votes from the public. Each couple has their base of fans and the truth is that Rumer won and she deserves this time in the limelight.
I guess I don’t understand why people keep saying that Derek was treated so badly, he had the Rockettes show and he is the one who decided to come back to Season 20 and what happened, he got hurt, whose fault was that? Put the blame where it belongs, he decided to do this and what happened, he got hurt and then could not do either, I don’t think the show had anything to do with that.
We had already gotten out tickets for the DWTS Tour coming to our city and will now see if we can upgrade to VIP so I can get my picture taken with Val.
Happy for Rumer because she seems like a really nice person! Val on the other hand just couldn’t wait to get his hands on that MBT and sleep with it, go out with it, take pictures with it, be best friends with it. He has one now, so for the seasons to come, he can’t use that excuse for why he thinks he should win! Focus on your partner next season, Val, and win because you helped your partner grow and because you delivered amazing routines, NOT because you haven’t won in all of your seasons on DWTS.
I don’t hear Mark, Kym or even Cheryl when she was on complaining about how many seasons its been since they won.
Riker does look disappointed, but the guy was a great dancer. I do believe that Allison hasn’t paid her dues and that getting Riker this season made it easy for her. She needs to get a partner that has no ballroom experience and create magic with them. Maybe then I’ll think she’s more deserving. She really needs to work on her ballroom technique and how to be a softer dancer. I’m not saying she should be less inventive. I’m saying she should be more refined. Sometimes their dances were hard to watch because there’s always so much going on and it’s too jerky and frantic. Riker is amazing though. Congrats on 2nd place!
It’s a shame what the producers do to Derek. I don’t know if they really just keep him around to bring in the viewers. If so, that is really unfortunate. Whoever his partners will be will be given unfair treatment I bet. If it’s true that the producers won’t allow Derek to win his SIXTH MBT, then he shouldn’t be on there anymore. He is doing fine! He has a great career ahead of him and he is recognized for what he does, so please, Derek! Find something better! Don’t let being on DWTS ruin your chances of finding better opportunities. One of the short lived ones was NYSS. Still bummed he couldn’t perform through the whole run of the show because of a damn injury…for being on DWTS. *rolls eyes*
I hope Sharna finally gets a chance at winning the MBT next season! She is amazing and I think people really got to see that this season! Good for her!
I am trying to decide whose careers are in need of the DWTS “bump”: Rumers, Bruce or Demi? We have all noted here that we liked Rumer and we cared for her story on a certain level. It is unfortunate that even though she wins DWTS, Val grabs the trophy, the family is onscreen celebrating more than she is, and she did seem somewhat confused as to what to do as a ‘winner.” So it seems her story did not resonate with Val and she is still overshadowed by her family. So sad.
In reference to the fact that DWTS is not like Survior or TAR whereby a win results in a cash payout, for me, DWTS is the same. They pay the PROS to work. They pay the celebs to appear. Each celebs contract (as we have learned) is for differing amounts relevant to what their PR people can pull out of DWTS, therefore they have an incentive to WIN as they progress each week.
I know nothing about the financial checks and balances when it comes to this show. I do know PAYOLA was rife with quiz shows in the 50s and in the music industry too, whereby Dick Clark’s career was nearly derailed.
So it begs to question with the outright manipulation of VAL winning this season, why shouldn’t the DWTS method of promotion not be investigated?
Let’s be frank, if VAL had danced with the animated GEICO Gecko instead of Rumer, he would still win the MBT, because “it was his turn” and DWTS is trying to build a new front man to equal Derek. Why can’t that front person be Sharna or Emma? Just sayin’.
I’d say that DWTS NEEDS Derek! His injury was a freak one. Stuff like that happens. No it wasn’t the show’s fault that Derek got injured…BUT the TPTB continued to portray Nastia in a negative fashion while pimping Rumer and Val. Nastia seems like a very lovely person. As does Rumer. It was just that the producers kept showing a poor side of Nastia and tried to egg her to get her to break and she didn’t.
I personally don’t think Rumer was a better dancer than Nastia and feel that TPTB needed to push Nastia out of the finals to ensure that the Chosen One’s won…and they succeeded….I hope Rumer and Val enjoy their win because it wasn’t earned it was given to them on a silver platter

Derek’s injury was the result of a freak accident. Saying he deserved to get injured in my opinion demonstrates an appalling lack of empathy and awareness.
Know the room you’re entering into. If you state your differing opinion intellegently and with respect, people here have no problem. If you’re simply coming in to say how wonderful your opinion is and how wrong everyone else’s is, then your simply a troll.
I have tickets to the tour as well. I’ll enjoy Val’s dancing. Hopefully he won’t be able to talk at all, because for me, that’s when it all goes to hell.
Riker did continue a Hough tradition after all. For Mirror Ball Giveaway (MBG) I and II, Derek was the attendant sacrificial male for the sake of Tony and Maks, respectively. For MBG III, it fell to young Riker, who stood there and took it like a pro. Well done Riker!
For those who think (hope) that Val can now give up his whining, I feel compelled to point out that the C bros mirror balls DO NOT MATCH!!! I have to believe that mama C is none too pleased about that, and so, get ready for a re-worked whine, ” … but I never won a SILVER mirror ball …”
A final note about Rumer. She seemed to spend quite a bit of time on screen while wearing that costume, the bottom of which hovered near pubes territory. Not only not appropriate, but really sends out the message that Rumer feels she needs to go to those kinds of extremes to be noticed. Someone, either on the show or in the extended familial audience entourage, should have talked to her about what that costume in particular said about her. That girl was not well served by the way she was displayed.
#267 Nancy – I also am thrilled Rumer and Val won! I agree with your comments! My friend and I met Val and Sharna last August at the BWAT Tour in Lancaster PA. We found both of them to be very personable and we were thrilled to meet them! We talked to him and Sharna for a few minutes and got very warm hugs. We will see him again at the DWTS Tour in Hershey PA. I can’t wait to see the show and all the pros! We have six rows from the stage floor seats. We wanted VIP again but the price wasn’t in our budgets. The price to meet them in Lancaster was much cheaper. But, we will take any opportunity within a reasonable price to meet any of the pros in the future. Since we met one C Brother, we would love to meet the other one!
I feel each pro who has ever danced on the show is special. They all have astounding talents and can do anything! They each bring something unique to the show. My hat is off to each one who has given me 20 seasons of viewing pleasure! I hope to tip my hat to each pro and star for many seasons to come! I still feel the show is the best entertainment variety show! Last night’s show was packed with incredible dancing, singing, and the entertainment value and I loved it!
124 days or so till Season 21! Can’t wait to see the fresh, new cast like every season!

Carla — For me, “paying her dues” is the obverse of Val’s “I’ve never won.” One is it’s too soon for you to win, the other is it’s too long since you haven’t won. Julianne won in her first season, because although she hadn’t paid her dues, she was the best. That what it should only be about.

Nancy, if you don’t get it now, after all the discussion, you’re obtuse. Congratulations.
As for Derek getting hurt – technically, I think that DWTS IS responsible. Probably legally, unless there is something in their contract that holds them harmless if a dancer gets hurt. But congratulations again on sounding like a jealous Val fan. “Greedy Derek was doing too much and it’s his fault he got hurt.” Typical of Val fans in general, I’ve found.
If Val hasn’t reached Derek’s status by now (and he hasn’t, clearly, even reached Mark’s), he’s not going to. Derek and Mark were hugely popular quickly and grew into awesome choreographers in relatively short order. Val seems to be regressing, instead of progressing, and I see a lot of his brother’s bad habits showing up in his dances now.
Fer real, KellyK – that’s obvious to anyone with a brain. The show went out of their way to get Derek on this season – HE was the one in NYC and they made sure that a camera crew was there with them every week. And he’s the PRO, not the celeb. Val and Maks are both from NYC and you don’t see them training in NYC every week. Nope, they have to go to LA or where ever to be with their celeb. But TPTB went out of their way to find not one, but TWO NYC based partners for Derek so he could do both.
Seems pretty clear to me that they feel they need him pretty bad. They just can’t afford to have him actually win. And I think perhaps Derek finally sees the writing on the wall here. He is a liability to his future partners, yet the show will do anything to have him on. He does NOT need to risk a career ending injury for people like that.
Goodie for you, Lois. I, for one, am sick and tired of people subtly denigrating those whose way of watching and enjoying the show doesn’t align with theirs in a totally passive aggressive way.
Share your opinion and move on, and leave out the commentary on other people’s opinion and how they watch the show.
Okay, now that my stomach has settled… I’m actually glad that it’s over and Val finally has his precious Gold MBT.
Hopefully, next season all the FAM dust will have settled and I can finally enjoy a season without the swelled entitlement and have to have it ego of Val.
I wanted Riker to win, but oh well, it’s not the first season my favorite hasn’t won. Next season please, can Emma finally have a contender for a partner.
@261 & 270 Kelly K – I completely agree! There was also the show where Rumer and Val were given two packages, one before and one after commercial break. The list of examples just gets longer and longer. I also agree that DWTS knows they need Derek (#279-PH, I hadn’t even thought of the fact that they had found two NY based partners for Derek!) Even casual viewers of the show whom I know mentioned that not having Derek there and dancing, due to his injury or Nastia’s elimination left a huge hole in the show and it didn’t feel the same. I have no doubts that TPTB are very well aware of this and want to keep Derek on but treat him and his partner horribly. This is why I was thrilled when he was so much more open in his blog then he’s ever been before. If TPTB were smart, they would realize they’re doing themselves no favors in the way they have been running this show. At some point, he will walk away and then where will they be?
#262 Judyl – I agree. I truly believe that the Willis family and Demi were a huge part of the voter manipulation. If we’re looking at the demographic of viewers, they will undoubtedly recognize Demi from Ghost, Indecent Proposal, GI Jane, etc.; and of course, Bruce from Moonlighting and the Die Hard series. That alone will spur people to vote for Rumer, simply because she is their daughter, and when they are continually shown, interviewed in Demi;s case, popping into rehearsal in Bruce’s case, it’s just screams manipulation. It really was just maddening to witness.

Few comments:
Riker & Allison killed their numbers tonight. Okay most felt Rumer would win but gosh darn that kid was so good. I really felt bad when I looked at his eyes standing there. He & Allison both should be proud of the work they accomplished this season.
Nastia, Derek, Sasha & Andy Grahm’s performance rocked for a second time. It still bugs me that she didn’t make it to the finals. All that talent. Its a shame too that she & Derek weren’t given the credit they deserved for being able to produce such incredible performances under the pressure they both had. Why didn’t TPTB focus on that instead of the “supposeddly” connection issues. Nastia & Derek should be proud because I don’t believe anyone else would have done it better under those circumstances. Bravo Team Houghkin!!
Finally, that performance by Derek, Jules & Sia was amazing. I do believe Derek had some input in the routine as that backwards scene has his name written all over it. Such a passionate performer. He’s been doing things like that for a while now. Kudos to those kids for keeping up too. Incredible job by all involved. Outstanding!!
Courtney mentioned a few times about how olympians and vets get a lot of votes for being a symbol of national pride. WHich is why they linked Nastia to Putin in that Dance Center piece. IN today’s political climate, that can turn off a lot of voters.
After S18 with Amy Purdy, I think Derek was reluctant to return, but many fans convinced him otherwise when they met him during Move tour.
I hope this summer fans persuade him to move on. Let’s not hold him back on a show that just wants to use him.
Does anyone else think Elastic Heart was possibly the song Derek was planning on using for Nastia’s freestyle? In his tvguide blog, he talks about how their potential song selection was a perfect fit for Nastia’s emotional story of breaking down her walls and that he had ran into the singer but unfortunately she couldn’t perform it live on Monday. In Julianne’s new blog post she talks about how Derek had originally envisioned it with a more romantic tone. Perhaps I’m reaching but their version could’ve/would’ve made for an epic freestyle!
If it can be said that Rumer/Val didn’t necessarily win it with their freestyle then I think Riker/Allison might have lost it with theirs. Riker needed an insane Kellie/Amber number to steal the show and leave viewers no choice but to vote for them, a tall order but unfortunately I don’t think they quite achieved that. Their dance was more entertaining than Rumer’s but not astonishing.

Actually, Derek is under contract just like all of the other pros with DWTS so if he returned its because he’s contracted to do so. Plus he loves what he does. I guess empathy for others goes right out the window for some when you favor a different pro. SAD really with the dedication that he has shown this show. Since he was injured while doing DWTS, YES IMO, they are responsible. Obviously, he does not need DWTS to be a success(NYSS-sold out shows) as well as the other achievements he’s had outside of this show.
Anyway, as a fan of his I think its a shame that he & his partners are set to a different standard than any of the other pros/couples and the judges & TPTB have to downgrade their routines and never acknowledge his creativity as a choreographer just to enhance the others. SAD!!!!
I do believe, like others, that the treatment of Nastia this season struck a cord with Derek as I have never heard him speak so openly and unfavorable about the shows antics.

First off, hats off to the mods, thank you so much for your wonderful insight season after season. I can’t wait your insights later in the year too.
I actually was really bugged, for a couple things actually, all towards the end of the finale results/season. First off, the faces Val was making through the entire drumroll thing that DWTS always does when they announce the winners/couple eliminated. I mean, how much more obvious does one have to make it? Second, not as much but I was bugged the way the Willis family reacted. I know they are family and it is exciting, but I think a little respect to the other couples would have been nicer, throughout the entire season actually, especially in the eliminations where Rumer & Val were the last two standing. Thirdly, Val let Rumer hold the MBT for like 2 seconds at a time every time she actually got to hold it.
Respect for me was an issue from Val this season, and that’s just one of the many others. I really do hope that S21 is better, and now that the Fam’s got their MBTs, they can go. I’ll really like to see amazing, respectful pros like Emma, or even Sharna again, and I love Allison & Derek as well, but mainly addressed to pros like Emma, to be able to go full out, and not get drowned out by TPTB.
Suri on dwts afterbuzz she was in the studio said that tony gather troupe members and was focused val he knew val was about to win….I need to go back and watch it on tv because I did see a group forming by the judges table when they were announcing the winner
Feel like Val and Rumer did that same foxtrot 10 times, so pathetic that they won. His choreo last season was way better. It’s actually funny that he says that she’s his favorite partner, he says that every season about every partner. Only said that about her because she got him the mirrorball (by default), pathetic. Anyways, I have a few questions for the mods.
1.) Are the rumors true that Jenna helped choreograph for ValenWHO this season (Val’s tweet to her, very suspicious)
2.) Is is true that he and Jenna are dating or dated in the past?

Mr. A, I don’t think that Val is going anywhere. He said in the interview on GMA that he’s contracted with the show until God knows when. I just hope that the others here are correct in their prediction for season 21: less pimpage, less fuckery, a more likable Val.

I am so sad to see and feel the meanness with this win. I remember Mark saying that when the Ballas/Hough kids would come to a competition they would win everything and would be disliked. When you are the best you do win. To skew the outcome and play the dirty shots is sad. Again, I am so sad to see this happen and spoil a good show.
I can understand hard feelings to be always shut out of the win when you are short on enough talent to pull it off, but cheating is never the answer.
Derek and Mark, you two are so much better than this show. Move on to full fill your talents.
If I were the producers, I would clean house and get new dancers to make it about the ‘stars’ again. Clear out all the miserable black hats that have an attitude of entitlement that spoils it all. They bring down this show with petty actions.

@Vernoica99 #296 Jenna and Val have been hooking up since she joined the show back in season 18. Kristyn Burt first broke the news back in like week 6 or 7 of season 18 how she thought it was so funny how people were fixated on Meryl/Maks and Peta/James but the real couple of Jenna/Val was never anyone’s focus. I don’t think they have been together fully since season 18, more like an on and off thing, but I think since she did Sway 2.0 things have been back in motion between them. They have put some not so subtle hints out there that they are back on. They are cute together- I really like Jenna!
And yes, Maks revealed an interview a while back about how he and Val have different choreo styles and that he is in the moment while Val plans everything ahead of time and that Val uses a female pro as a stand in to work with….so I think Jenna is the person he uses for that.

because in like rumer and val’s interview with howard stern, val admitted, after like forty-five minutes of stern grilling val about this sex life (which was really annoying, stern is such a perv), val finally admitted that the last time he had sex was the prior weekend and that it was with a girl who he didn’t know and still doesn’t know. So maybe he and jenna have a friends with benefits thing? I guess not a real relationship yet, if ever?
I like jenna though from what i have seen of her on the show.
but i mean everyone has private lives we know nothing about. Like julianne looked SUPER wasted coming out of the after party tuesday night. SUPER wasted, and obviously the nip slip happened. But its hard to judge julianne or anyone else, because I mean we don’t know them in person, just tidbits here and there.
Val’s choreography still sucked though this season. I was inititally rooting for val and rumer, but later on switched to nastia and derek. I thought nastia and rumer were equally wonderful dancers, but vals choreography this year sucked (loved his choreography with zendaya, elizabeth, and janel). Voted for noah and sharna to win the finale, but obvs that didn’t happen. 🙁 very overwhelming finale this year.
I say get all new producers, replace half the show, replace all the judges (except for bruno whose the only one I kind of like), and I think the show would be awesome. 🙂
Yeah, usually almost everyone is super wasted coming out of the wrap party. I mean, it’s open bar and anything you want to drink. So I would say hard to resist, and plus everyone is blowing off steam glad it’s finally over!
Miriam, I read your first post, and you made some great points about cultural diversity. =) But I think it all boils down to the fact that Val isn’t really likable to a lot of people, and it didn’t help that he’s the chosen one by the producers. Maybe people will start warming to him once he becomes less of an asshole that he is now and once the pimping stops. =)

Not to get into the Val/Jenna thing but I inadvertently have been following them since I have a friend who is slightly obsessed with them (not sure why) and they did seem to have something going on quietly during S18 but then that summer at around the beginning of August it seemed to end as they spent most of the summer apart and Jenna posted some not so subtle hints on twitter. S19 Val was obviously consumed with the Janel situation and then post S19 Jenna started dating some guy in Utah who used to go out with Brooklyn Fullmer. I think that relationship might have ended around the 4th or 5th week of this season though. Jenna went back to Utah after GMA though so if she and Val do have anything going on again it can’t be that serious.
I honestly think it’s more of a situation where Jenna idolizes Val and he knows it and he uses that to his advantage when he needs someone to run choreography with. He always uses another female pro to do that. He used to use Oksana when she was on the show. For Jenna’s sake I hope she doesn’t buy into it again but I could see Val falling into something if he gets lonely on the tour (which is terrible to say).
Looking back at the season…do people think Rob Wade is using the same formula that Conrad did for putting people in jeopardy or is it more meaningless now? Riker for example was put in jeopardy quite a bit and while he didn’t win he did make the finals. Though it could have been a situation where he barely made it in. We obviously will never know how many people were voting for him. I don’t think once though did they give us the true bottom 2.

Celebs whom they might want say no thanks and invoke the “Nastia Treatment.” There have been some strange things happen on DWTS–like Edyta leaving & Cheryl leaving without so much as a thank you! So I saw on the finale all access that Derek said something along the lines of… Spoiler alert rumer and val are going to win. How did he know? Is the whole show rigged and pretty much everyone knows? Or was Derek just basing it off his intuition?
Yes Kelly. Did you read the part where Nastia also said it was so hurtful to hear what Val said about them being uninteresting? I don’t even know if I can stand looking at Val’s smug face next season. These C bros are full of crap and so arrogant. Would you believe they now have their 3 MBTs in their dance studio and are telling their “fans” they can now take a picture of them. Really, why would I even want a picture of their MBTs(Not a fan either). They can crow all they want about their MBTs, Derek still have 5 AND an Emmy. Something I don’t think they will have.
The other thing that Derek has is a blindingly bright future. Those jokers, not so much. We may well be witnessing the apex of their “careers.” That speaks volumes. Derek has already left them in the dust.

+1 on what Suzy said in #323. Maks’s lack of professional activity makes it pretty clear nobody else wants the Fam’s services. My guess is Val will stick like a leech to DWTS until the show is cancelled.
Glad I missed Tuesday night’s coronation. 🙄 Poor Rumer, she was a complete afterthought from Week 1; nothing more than a tool to get Val his “win” and get her A-list parents in the audience every week. Wishful thinking, but maybe now that Val has a “ball”, he’ll be just a tad less whiny and obnixous.
What a relief S21 is over. It could have been a very lively and interesting “competition” because there were so many likeable couples with celebs who could dance, but it quickly spiralled into a grotesque repeat of S15 and S18. Dare we hope that since the “Fam boys” now have their 3 pity trophies, TPTB’s will stop the heavy-handed manipulation?

It was a total downer that Rob Wade put together a really decent celebrity line-up for S20 and then ruined it by making the season all about ensuring that Val got a trophy he’s been unable to earn on his own merits no matter how many ringers they gave him.
As always, I’ll give DWTS a chance again this Fall, but it won’t be my main focus. When Strictly is on, it gets the lion’s share of my attention.

Willow killed her Foxtrot and proved why she could easily have been competing there.
Nastia’s Charleston actually not really a Charleston at all, I loved it but the footwork is not at all Charleston.

Interesting to note who was and was not in the Tragic Mike guys’ pro dance. Surprised to see Tony miss an opportunity for shirtlessness but for the most part it was who you’d expect.
The rundown for the first 6 weeks featured a variety of songs couples danced to. Several of them seemed to be Michael Sam’s songs considering he only did 4 dances, but I noticed that Riker and Noah had brief snatches of one of their songs each (He’s a Pirate and I Lived, respectively) while Rumer had 3 longer clips, from Turning Tables, Bootylicious and the subtle-as-a-pie-in-the-face Rumor Has It. I may be reading too much into it but it strikes me as subliminal pimpage, trying to force you to think about Rumer more than the others. If so though, why choose Bootylicious, which was far from her finest hour? Curiouser and curiouser…
Elastic Heart may be my favourite routine I’ve ever seen on the show. The time reversal and parallel routines strike me as Derek’s style, and if someone else had choreographed it they’d surely have been credited. Wouldn’t you want to be? OK, so the week 7-9 summary featured songs from Riker and Noah but not Rumer, but it’s still 3 to 2 and Rumer got undue amounts of attention to my eyes.

Mr A, the concept was Derek’s, but the choreo was done by a woman who’s name I can’t remember. I don’t think Derek had time.
As for the Charleston – it was a “modern charleston” not a standard one. What that means for sure, I don’t know, but I suspect that it means it a much more modern looking dance (and with fewer rules), as the name implies.
Makes sense as far as Elastic Heart goes. Either way it was excellent. I loved the Modern Charleston routine, but for me the single most important element of any Charleston would be the swiveling feet, and I saw literally none of that. Courtney herself confused it for Lindy Hop, and I think that’s closer to how it ended up. Not a bad dance by any means, especially considering that it was Nastia’s first dance after Derek got hurt, but either it was a rare choreographic misstep from Derek as far as I’m concerned, or Nastia didn’t get taught the technique correctly in the shuffle of that whole chaotic week. Can’t really blame them either way.
Mr A #331 – I LOVED Willow & Mark’s Alice Foxtrot the second time around. I thought the ending (where Mark carried her over his shoulders) was better than the original (where Mark kind of dragged her across the floor). I just thought it added a comical touch to the performance. But I understand where Mark was coming from in that he didn’t want points deducted for a lift. And I agree with you, Willow killed that performance. I wish she – and Nastia – were in the finals. Both of them and their respective partners would have made the finals a lot more interesting in my opinion.
And LOL to “Tragic Mike” – that’s exactly what that was!
In the finale at the beginning whwere everyone has like five seconds when they’re announced, nastia and derek like blew the competition out of the water lol. But has anyone else seen the pics of derek and kate hudson at a concert together? Noooooooooooooooooooo lol
