Tristan MacManus Chats On The Differences Between Dancing With The Stars And Strictly Come Dancing And More

The MaManiac’s posted a new interview with Tristan MacManus. He tells us all about his summer projects so far. He also discusses Dancing With The Stars and Strictly Come Dancing and some of the differences between each show. It’s always good to hear from him. This pro is so missed. Thanks to Andrea for the heads up on this fun interview.

What is one of your favorite moments from SCD 2014?

I really enjoyed my time on Strictly and enjoyed getting to know the pros I hadn’t met before and the crew. Jenny was obviously a highlight to meet and spend time with and I’m glad that her family is now a part of my family. I had always been a fan of Michael Flatley so to meet him and talk with and the cast of Riverdance was amazing for me. I got to meet a number of amazing choreographers each week as well as I had missed the original rehearsal schedule because of Alec and Edyta’s show [Alec Mazo and Edyta Sliwinska’s Dance Temptation, August, 2014]. The whole experience was pretty special for me as I was losing motivation a little bit before I came.

Sometimes the songs chosen for SCD and DWTS don’t seem to be suited to the dance style you are assigned to do. Obviously you make the best of it but do you recall any cases where working with certain music was particularly challenging as you tried to choreograph and/or create a story?

Yeah, you have a lot less influence in a lot of the things on Strictly or at least it seems that way for me but it may just be circumstance and the way the weeks of the show were going. I think Strictly is more about songs that everyone knows and are aware of where I feel you can use any music that’s great on DWTS. I’m usually pretty good at just going with what I got unless I have a real issue with a particular song. I think I made it clear I didn’t wanna dance to ABBA – ha – but what can you do?! Jenny was a huge ABBA fan. Once we got that we just had to go with it. I wanted to use a song by The Beautiful South. Hopefully I can use it on a future season. Movie Week I wanted “Jump In The Line”. I just love that song. Sometimes you get a song you just love but you have no idea after that about what to do – haha – you are just happy you got a great song and then everything is always relative. You should only do what suits your partner and maybe costumes and things like that – dress them for the same reasons. So I let the relevant departments do their job and I focus on my job. On Strictly you teach and try to influence and on DWTS you create more.

Will Dancing With The Stars Be Nominated For An Emmy? Emmy Nominations Take Place July 16th!

Will Dancing With The Stars Be Nominated For An Emmy? Deadline.com thinks it’s likely even though there are a lot of shows waiting in the wings. Read on for more including a quote from Executive Producer Rob Wade.

Many series are worthy of attention, considering the level of reinvention they must go through to stay relevant. “People can spot a forced fight or a forced reality moment a mile away, and they need honesty,” says Dancing with the Stars showrunner Rob Wade. “I think we’re doing that well. We’re breaking down the barriers between the viewers and backstage areas so they can access the show to a greater extent now.”

Maintaining viewership is one thing, but for new series, breaking into the Emmy category is next to impossible. The last one to do so was The Voice, which debuted in 2011. In fact, the average time on the air of the other five series nominated with The Voice in 2014 is 11 years; the youthful Voice brings the average down to just under 10.

So will Amazing Race and Voice be nominated once again with Dancing with the Stars, Top Chef, Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance and Lifetime’s Project Runway? It seems likely, even though there are a lot of shows waiting in the wings, especially considering how much the genre has evolved in the last 10 years. Among the other shows Emmy voters might want to consider are Logo’s brand-building RuPaul’s Drag Race, NBC’s feel-good weight-loss series The Biggest Loser, CW’s runway competition America’s Next Top Model, ABC’s tweetable hookup series The Bachelor, Fox’s Gordon Ramsey-starrer Master Chef, Food Network’s delicious Chopped and Syfy’s Critics Choice TV Award-winning special-effects makeup competition Face Off.

More at Deadline.com. I hope Dancing With The Stars is nominated as well as DEREK HOUGH!! I’d love to see Sharna Burgess and Mark Ballas nominated as well. Note: The 2015 Nominations take place on July 16th.

DWTS Rumors And Watchout: Cast Set And Celebrity Rumors??

Fashion Style posted a set of the pros set to return for Dancing With The Stars Season 21. They also write that Len Goodman has retired as a judge. Not only that, they post on celebrities interested in doing the show. Like @DWTSGossip posted at twitter, I agree how they never set the cast this early. I’d take this all with a grain of salt (even though I love who they mentioned for celebs). Heidi, what do you think? Scroll below to see her comment…

Pending any further commitments, the following pros are slated to return to the ballroom floor.

The male pro cast will include Derek Hough, Tony Dovolani, Mark Ballas, season 20 winner Val Chmerkovskiy, Artem Chigvinstev and Keo Motsepe.

For the females, reportedly returning will be Sharna Burgess, Witney Carson, Allison Holker, Emma Slater and Peta Murgatroyd.

Uncertain as to their return is Kym Johnson, who is currently in a relationship with former partner and “Shark Tank” star Robert Herjavec.

Also returning to the judge’s table are Carrie Ann Inaba, Julianne Hough and Bruno Tognoli. Len Goodman has retired from the United States version of the series, but will remain in the U.K. to judge “Strictly Come Dancing.”

There has also been a report that several celebrities are interested in appearing on the show, including singer Ricky Martin, “Brady Bunch” star Maureen McCormick, “Glee” star Chris Colfer, model Christie Brinkley, actress Marilu Henner, singer Nick Lachey (who’s brother Drew Lachey won season 2) and actress Heather Locklear.

Heidi: Total BS. Like “Fashion Style” is going to have  clue before any other outlet.  Derek doesn’t even know if he’s back yet and he said so as recently as a week ago. I thought I heard Kym was going back to Oz as a Judge. As for who they claim is interested?? Also BS with the possible exception of Heather Locklear, Christie and Marilu (which they probably got from us). As for Len, there was just a more reliable source that quoted TPTB saying not to count him out just yet.
